Herborizer corner

I was thinking about buying "fritted glass" screens for both my herborizer and my extreme q.
The extreme Q has 12.5mm screens so this is not a problem. the herborizer xl has 22mm screens and i cannot seem to find them.
I only could find 12,5m 15mm and 18mm.

Has anyone any idea where to order a 2mm fritted glass screen? And i also would be interested to hear who tried this.

I tried years ago fritted glass screens, for vaping, combusting, and some direct torch dabbing, like healthstones style.
Not worthy imho & experience.
For example, regular glass screens, with bigger holes, like the ones used on NV FP bowls, tend to get clogged very fast, and the holes tend to be annoying to get completely cleaned, unless you take your time or you’re very concise and consistent. In the end, most of the users placed an extra regular SS or Ti screen on top, so to prevent them holes getting so dirty so fast and easy.
I remember fritted screens or filters getting extra dirty way way faster, and taking way more time and dedication to cleaning rather than enjoying.
I’ve seen fritted filters/screens more used at industrial kind of uses. Where harsher conditions and cleaning agents can be used. Or directly be disposed/trashed after heavy use, and replaced with a new one.
Porous fritted screens will also stain easier, and oils and ABV dust will remain stuck for longer at their tiny porous holes.
YMMV.
By the way, we have a crazy glass blower based here at Portland, Oregon, crazy curmudgeon, that wanted to “patent” fritted discs as his own percolating system in his own rigs.
Rooster Aparatus is his brand.
It never worked well, it’s hard to apply since it’s already porous and not easy to attach/melt to solid glass.
And unless you buy the bowls with the fritted discs already fused as a regular screen, I really don’t see the point of trying to fit a fritted disc in an Herborizer bowl.
Fritted disc screens are rigid. They’ll crumble or break if applied certain pressures on certain points.
You’ll need extra tolerance to fit a fritted screen in a bowl, if you want it to be removable for easier cleaning, and that will leave extra room around the circumference of the screen, allowing lots of unwanted grind weed or ABV, or ABV dust. Everything will be dirtier than before.
Or you’ll need to place a finer metal screen under, to prevent that dirt running straight to your rig. Or prevent them from wobbling on top of the glass nipples, that prevent the metal screens from falling down the bowl while unloading the ABV. Makes sense???
Imho & experience, fritted discs are a waste of time & money as direct screens, where direct ABV or heavy oils/vapors are being produced/heated/filtered/vaped.
It’s already been proved and proven.
Many people have tried this before, and failed.
If it worked, don’t you think we will be seeing them already a long time ago???
I’d totally save that money for more Herborizer bowls or injectors or stands.
Stay vaped.
Mantente de la mente!!!

Well i think my throat is sensitive to metal screens. I have an all glass whip screen in my extreme Q which is nicer than the metal dome screen.
I was just trying to find out any glass screen solutions. it does not have to be fritted. it can be a glass screen with holes. But the 22mm screens are a bit of a niche market i guess.

Im guessing off the bat here, because I can't recall the Dimensions, but maybe have a look at the Vriptech Heat Wand glass screens.

What i've seen with my double screen, one regular and one tight #325 is that the regular only get clogged.. the #325 won't glued to finger, it seems just to stay new bowls after bowls...

Well i think my throat is sensitive to metal screens.
U can still try different screen, SS, Ti or japanese organic cotton if metal make u sick, but the heater will always be Ti. Even the inverzion vap still need metal screen for now

Are we talking the same screens here??
As far as I know, “fritted” is a term used for a porous, foam style bonded glass, that is used as a screen too. It actually looks like a tight glass sponge.

@Zangano Cruel I would have quote that @daoist "it does not have to be fritted. it can be a glass screen with holes."
But i can't quote with the edit tool

I'm not using glass, just saying that more open are the holes, more clogged it will get. Even if not fritted glass, just like percolator one.

So the fritted will just be a reclaim net.
I used the crafty liquid pad (with my crafty), the path seems the same as fritted glass, and had to soak in iso often and never get them new again

i have those mighty liquid pads, because i own the mighty vaporizer. i don't like those either. i just notice the metal and makes the vape a bit more harsch. So that is the reason why i look for a glass screen solution. but also those liquid pads are to small for the herborizer XL, even to small for my extreme Q cyclone bowl.

But indeed to me a fritted glass solution seems the glass version of a liquidpad. I think i just brush it off with my mighty cleaning brush and soak in iso. The fritted glass will not let any herb through. with big holes i think some herb will fall through.

Maybe i just should buy a vaporizer that has 100% glass screens. If that exists at all.
There is not to much wrong with the herborizer screens, especially when i use double screens it seems to perform well, but i just don't like metal in my vape path, it somehow seems to irritate my throat.

Maybe i need to put in carbon filters, would that help?

For those who seem confused about the term fritted glass. it looks like this:
It has look of "i wish i had not dropped it 50 times and superglued it back together". But i need 22mm.

I became fed up with the storz bickel grinder getting always stuck. It grind well but damn everything stay between the teeth.

So i'v tried direct calyx in the bowl, lot of people on other thread pray the "no grind".
And It was just a waste of weed...
Several bowl, half or less taste and cloud... low temp just doesn't work, and i get cloud only after i break the calyx.. nothing to compare with a low temp taste i use to have or the cloud from the storz grinding.

I don't know what kind of grind (fine/coarse/full nugs) everyone use here ? I guess i will have to look for a good grinder, like bcg (loved here) if nothing get stuck in the teeth part

Hey!

I use a coarse grind, pretty much same consistence as sb grinder but I use a better quality one, 9€ on amazon and works like a charm, this one its been on daily use with good grade material for 3 months and not gummed up, yet.
I have also tried whole little pieces of nug and its ok for me, amazing flavor with little to no vapor at the beginning and you have to crush the nug iso stir.

I like a fine grind (but not powder) with convection heaters like this. What I would call medium works too though, and I think you can skip grinding if you’re okay with getting a couple of lighter draws and then breaking it up with your fingers once it’s dry enough.

I thought sb grinder was on the fine side, i get a broken mflb finishing and the sb is not that far

As i said, No taste and low clouds... so i will grind before rather than between two hit with my fingers
No grind was too good to be true...

Can't try my MFLB grinder to talk about powder. But something like https://iamstona.com/products/herb-grinder-black-walnut must work well i guess

With full convection heaters the difference between any 2 decent grinders is much smaller than the difference between any grind and no grind. I occasionally use unground and then break it up, but I almost always grind.

For good and fast extraction of unground flower I think conduction helps a lot, but that doesn’t mean that all conduction heaters do it well either. I think the ones that work best for unground are powerful hybrid heaters like the Supreme.

Super fast extraction is not what everyone’s looking for though, and if you take more than a few draws on a hybrid heater they usually end up tasting bad. I think there’s still some development to do before we have the perfect vaporizer. :)

I was hesitating with the supreme 3.5 before buying the herbo. But the supreme was just giving huge cloud because the thermometer was under valued.

Full nugs seems to need really high temp, which i don't like. what can give a vapcap or a suprem with the first blast...
So i will keep grinding, nothing beat the low temp taste

But 90$ for a BCG or 110€ for the stona... i will ask them to be perfect... cause i still have 5 sb grinder

Yhe istructions with the verdamper say to start with raisin size paticles, then crumble as you go along. But that is in reference to 1-1.5 gram loads.

@Zangano Cruel u were born with the third lung or u've transplanted it after ?
Even 0.1g i need two draw, (i put the heater off mid draw to clean, maybe soon..), but how much loaded for that soporific rip ?
For a hit like this, is around 2 fluffy fine grind spoonfuls.
If youmeasure the load, it shouldn’t go above the bottom line of the handle level. Makes sense??
I’d say it’s around 0.1g give or take.
I’d let the Herborizer sit on the loaded bowl for at least a 5 count before start inhaling, then go to town.
Stay vaped.

It makes sense but bottom line is more 0.3g, with 0.1 u still see the 3 glass dots

I’d let the Herborizer sit on the loaded bowl for at least a 5 count before start inhaling, then go to town.
For me, it would be go to bed then

If you practice with drawspeed and temperature you can get bigger hits when you do it right.
Also you get cooler hits when the bowl is not pre heated.
