Fluxer Heaters, induction heaters for Dynavap

Just tried out the PWM, at 50% its a long time to click. Used 75% and yes its still a little hot. Maybe a little combustion on the edges. When using PWM I have to hold the stem as it sorta moves around and opens the cas thus stopping and starting heating. Which way & how do I move the coil to make less heat?

Guess I need to read the paperwork lol
It explains it well. I will try this next. In the meantime I figured I’d try my put away low temp cap. It worked, nice dark brown avb. Was never a fan of the low temp cap.
more investigations... try stainless steel tip

My Flite arrived today, Sunday, via USPS. This is 2 days earlier than shown on tracking number!

I am doing the initial charge. Maiden voyage now scheduled for this evening.

Finally I can use the dynavap while out hiking! The torch never worked well for me outside. Between not being able to see the torch and wind it was a real pita and I combusted often. I gave up on it and resorted to combusting on hikes and while backpacking. Hoping those days are behind me.

First let me say that if you are deciding between the CaS and the button I would go for the button. I really like being able to do a shallow dip to adjust the heating. Using the PWM I like to go full insertion on the first cycle for both clicks. On the second cycle I'll sometimes start pulling the dynavap out slowly after the first click. On the 3rd cycle I'll do a shallow dip for both clicks. All depending on how I am feeling of course, but I do like having this ability.

I've been using the PWM pretty exclusively. After the 2nd cycle the material is a dark golden brown, and pushing the 3rd cycle gives me dark roasted coffee. That's with a full insertion through 3 cycles. That's why I like having the shallow dip option.

I wish I would have counted the number of clicks I have gotten. Im bad about keeping track of stuff like that. I'll try to next charge.

I have a beautiful pic of the flite out in the wild, but everytime I try to post I get "oops, something went wrong".

I wish the charging connector was USB-C so that I could use existing AC and car charges. This will let me have one less proprietary charger to worry about.

My Orion was showing low battery. I was able to use my existing car charger to top off the Orion.

I think my plan will be to use to Orion for travel due to lighter weight and USB-C charging. I will use the Flite for home. PWM seems pretty cool.

I went with the cAs , still do not have a preference yet... although my other IHs are push button. Still getting used to not having to push the button. I vape through water 80% of the time, haven’t tried cAs while on the bong yet...

I have been using PWM 75% and getting 2 cycles for dark brown abv. Still on 1st charge... waiting to see the leds dim

A small converter would solve car charging the Flite but noted. Unfortunely the BMS circuits requires limiting the maximum input voltage. There is nothing to making a USB-C to 12.6V adapter.

I forgot to note that at this time I see no down side to having both the button and CaS. I'm curious how the interact with each other though. Does one override the other, for example.

Oh, and charging from dead took about and hour and a half.

If either one is on, the heater is on.

If they’re both on, the heater is on.

If they’re both off, the heater is off.

I think @mr_cfromcali mentioned that he has USB-C adapter for this but he didn’t have time to get it ready before Flite launch.

I hear you, @swieder711 ! I wanted to include a USB-C charging connection as well, but it was more than we could accomplish on this first release.

The Flite's BMS is wired for 12.6V output and 12.6V charging. In order to charge it, I need to give it 12.6V. USB-C (and all USB flavors) output 5V. To make this work with the Flite's BMS we need to "step up" this 5V to 12V.

This can be done with a small circuit, but the circuit needs some space, probably a few cm^2, as some of the components are bulky. The Flite has no extra space for this at the moment. None. Zippo.

That means the step up part of this needs to be incorporated into the cable, making this yet another proprietary connecting cable.

I do have a Franken-cable I'm testing that's built from a pair of existing cables: the 12.6V charing adapter I use, and a 2.1A USB-A to 2.1mm x 5.5mm tip DC connector ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SZSVF31/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_0T18FbMJJ13NM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

The current version of this Franken-cable looks like this:

IMG-0750-private.jpg

It works, but it's kinda, well...it looks ugly. :freak: I'm still testing it, and I am also still considering if I can do something better for a similar amount of effort, which is also important. I am still looking at parts and evaluating the best way to make this adapter, so it is still very much in progress.

TL;DR: I also want a USB charging colution for the Flite. I'd prefer USB-C, but will settle for any version of USB initially. Customer feedback will help me make the right decision here, so please let me know what you want, given the limitations of what I can likely make work. Thanks!

Don't forget temp control..... people around here are demanding, aren't they?

I appreciate that this is something people want, but this is "not my feature," so it's not something I've been working on. I can see the value of it so you don't need to make a case for it, but my attention and dev resources are very limited and have been focused on accomplishing other things. I've added it to the list of feature requests - thanks! We'll see if we can do something w/it in the future.

Oh, I should have included something to let you know I'm joking. I find members to be very demanding of our cottage producers. The flite is barley out and people want upgrades!

Personally, it is not a feature for me, normally when I want this type of use I prefer natively regulated vapes (iq2 or the Ace that I have fallen in love with) for example when I'm working or doing things at home; but when I use the vapcap I like the manual experience, in fact despite the IH I use the lighter frequently. But I understand that for those people who use the vapcap exclusively as single vaporizer (which I think are the majority) it is a super interesting option, especially for a desktop IH

Let's give this man a beer and a vacation first😂 In addition, all these functions are lusciousness, nothing to stop you at running fast for a current Flite:razz::razz:

It is clear that this will not be my last Flite:lol:
I love the Flite so far! Probably just because its my first Fluxer Heater. Interested to see what the changes are in the upcoming v2 Flux Deluxe.
Always interested in what's next, but we should allow @mr_cfromcali to finish what he has already started.

I believe he made a excellent product in the Flite, glad I returned that Orion!

Yes, so far I love this little thing. Truly pocketable, and really delivers. I still need to do some experimenting with pulling out early to extend session. Also need to try letting the tip cool more between clicks. I've found when I rush a session there is a chance of combustion on the 3rd cycle.

@TommyDee when you describe the terp sipping first cycle and hard hitting second cycle method, how much time do you give between the cool down click and reheat?

I got 4 cycles out of a load that I put down after the first cycle and got distracted, starting with a fully cooled tip for the 2nd cycle. Just want to test out how consistent this method is. Seems there are a lot of factors here though.

Actually keeping track of the number of clicks this charge, using 75%on 25%off PWM. Whatever I report I'm sure YMMV as there are just too many factors to consider.

Thank you, @DHV8654 ! I am very happy you like it! :D Seeing this being used and especially enjoyed is a big part of my reward for doing this, and it is gratifying to finally see that happening. :D

A few stray thoughts about the Flite that I want to share before they wander off:
  • I should have been more vocal about the extra time the first batch would require, as it would have relieved some pressure. There were a lot of small details I either hadn't worked out or needed to revisit when I started making these in quantity. It was necessary, but lesson learned. I do believe future Flite batches will go more quickly now that I've settled on my construction methods.
  • Just within the first batch, the heaters became easier for me for build as I went along. That's honestly a good sign, and indicates we have a very solid design here, The FD, in comparison, is still a bear to build...
  • My immediate plans for today are to fulfill some parts orders, complete some repairs that came in while I was finishing up the Flite, and correct a Flite order I got wrong. That's today's agenda.
  • I have a couple "other" Flite that I need to build for folks that were part of batch #1 but not part of the initial 24 for one reason or another. I'll be building those today or tonight, as time permits. If this sounds like your situation and we have already exchanged email about this, I'll be in touch soon about your Flite.
  • Flite batch #2: At the moment I am looking at this putting these up for sale Wednesday, day after tomorrow. I will confirm that in this thread tomorrow, as I still need to do a parts inventory and make sure I have enough of the necessary components on hand. I'll also pick a time that's more friendly to other time zones. ;)
OK, back to the shop for now.

Cheers! :)
