About NewFC: how we got here and where we hope to go

Hmm I just noticed a feature missing, when you send a message, on old FC you have 10 minutes to edit it, here I do not see that option unfortunately...

That's my fault. I missed a setting, so the time limit was set to 0. Worse, when @FlyingLow sent me the PM I thought he was talking about forum posts. No wonder I couldn't recreate it.

I gave everyone 10 minutes to edit a conversation. Sorry I missed this earlier. Thanks for noticing. There's so many things to do setting this place up that it's easy to miss something, so we're depending on people to report differences that they notice. Some of them we can't or maybe won't do anything about, but a lot of them are just things we overlooked.

I also tried and could not edit a post in the Nomad thread. I was using my phone...

You can edit a regular post in any thread for up to 6 hours, there is a little drop down menu at the bottom next to the report button "...↓" (this actually lists "more options" though edit is the only option, anyway we could just make the link itself say "edit" like oldFC and save a little extra click step?

Ah yes, glad you were able to get to the bottom of that, thank you! And also thank you for the hard work on the layout, I noticed a few changes (like the return of square avatar thumbnails and the look of the user headings above each post seems to look better now as well) while I realized the green accents are actually more fitting our theme than orange I suppose... Thanks again!!

This is test post so I can see what you're on about.

edit: I don't see a drop down. Are you on your phone?

Cool! I knew you computer scientist types could figure it out!

I always feel so dated when I have to figure out computer issues.

Yes, that's exactly what I expected. It happens because I added the time and membername for the post. I can't fix that but you can: get a wider phone.

edit: Try turning your phone 90° ;)

lol figures, not a big deal, still easier to scroll and read in portrait view, I don't mind the extra click too much at least! Sounds like it was a necessary trade off for more visible info. Thank you again!

Everybody, this is amazing what is happening here! I'm so impressed by you all :) Long (long) time lurker, first time poster. I've quietly appreciated the existence and wisdom contained at FC on and off for more than 10 years, and what I see happening here is an evolution of the spirit of the old site that feels perfectly in line.

I'm curious (and couldn't find the answer on searching) whether there's been any discussion about maybe converting some of the valuable archives into a wiki type of repository: distributed user-edited and moderated articles, cross-linked and tagged for easy navigation. Even an anthology of retired vapes (with tips and tricks, variations, etc) would be invaluable to users, collectors, and an inspiration to new inventors. There are already users moving the key information chunks to the head of the new forums, making stickies, etc., and the "resources" from the old forums are natural low-hanging fruits for article stubs.

I just checked, and as long as the content is public domain and educational in the broadest sense, images can be hosted at wikimedia. Educating people about vaporizers seems like something this community could get behind. Here's a category that could use some additions: Search results for "vaporizer" - Wikimedia Commons

Anyway, apologizes if this has already been discussed somewhere. Just some random thoughts I was having today about this site. Thanks for everything you guys are doing. It's a beautiful thing!

There's been discussion about creating some kind of archive. We mentioned that we would attempt to do this in our announcement. It isn't our highest priority right now, though. We're still trying to keep up with the new registrations. This would not be nearly so much work if gmail wasn't classifying our confirmation emails as spam—some of the time. A lot of gmail members don't have any problem, but there's no pattern I can see.

Can't thank you guys enough for keeping this site going! It was the place where I learned everything about vaping and cooking with cannabis.

Been though what you guys are doing more times than I like to remember. I've run many systems and forums on many platforms (since 1984), and it's not an easy thing to keep going. But I love online communities like this - not the quick and dirty twitter, instagram - nor the down and dirty anonymity of reddit - but a real place for actual conversation with real people.

Thanks again!

Good pick up - the thumbnails are now square with rounded corners, very very nice, & the font of quoted comments is smaller/lower than the comment fonts.
Also the 'Preview' function now remains on the same page as the original comments, which makes using Preview way easier.

Would it be at all possible to use a colored font or colored background for quoted messages to make it stand out a little more as it was in the old FC software? Thank you very much mods for all your efforts.

Yes, it is possible but making a lot of changes to the styles creates a maintenance problem. I've set it up so most changes are kept when the style gets updated, but there's still a lot of handwork to do when that happens. The current styles all differentiate quoted text. You could try the other styles to see whether one of them suits you better.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I need a little more help please. I use a chromebook and I'm having trouble with the slide scroll on the right side of the screen. On the old FC it's bright, you can see it easily and it doesn't disappear. I need to find the settings for this new site. I can't fucking scroll and it's driving me mashugana.

Try changing your style (bottom left of any page). The scroll bar is much more visible in some of the other styles.

Wow! I never noticed this, probably because I've been switching styles so much. I don't spend much time in the Shades of Grey styles, but they all have this issue—or used to. See if it's any better now.

Yes, the 'Shades of Grey' scroll shows much more definition now, much easier to see with the lighter scroll background & darker scroll - btw, both 'Shades of Grey' themes are excellent, very easy on the eyes.

This solution depends on webkit so it doesn't work in Firefox. Sorry about that. I'll look for a Firefox solution.

@pakalolo, would you consider extending the Edit time for Conversations to 20 (at minimum) or 30 min.? Quite often, I'll send a pm, then think about it & have an after- thought I want to include & have just missed the Edit timeframe by up to 3 min.

Is there a way to get feedback if a pm was seen or not like on IG?
