I love burl woods and spotted woods. A top of that stuff from Kiesel would be like $500. Haha. I think Shawn Lane had a signature model with a burl top.

It's a trip, my friend. Jimmy Page was the man in the late 60s through the 70s. I purchased some green gelato and it tastes phenomenal at 11.5.

ever since i started vaping i’ve been thinking of making a vapitar (electric guitar with a built in vaporizer). i shown my luthier skills a few posts back, it could be done . @Crussell27 , @ataxian , the current convo is really bringing that idea back to the front burner .

@Alan , i might need your wizardry at some point if pursuing this project . it would definitely need to be whip style to allow vaping while playing. session style too i’d imagine unless i’d incorporate a tone knob or switch that functions as quick on/off for the vaporizer. haha

My family love’s music of all kinds=LA style however New York/Across the pound as well!
The HI is a ART piece in my microscopic brain?

DRUNK playing at a club in PARIS, FRANCE easy crowd.
LA crowd no way to please. (I wasn’t decent enough, however I love music and marijuana was a name it was for a Southern California culture era’s ago?
My friend’s from the Center Area’s of CALIFORNIA played surf music that never made the Radio.
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND had MUSIC as the tourist attraction. (Good for Music History)
Only thing I never understood was with most people drunk as one can be, why was CANNABIS against the law of the land?

I was requested to make a special HI that was intended to be used primarily with a silicone whip. It needed to be be stable so it wouldn't fall over. A conical shape seemed the best to use. Sort of like a volcano.
I installed the power socket and heater from the bottom in the same fashion as the Toasty Top or Toasty Tower. Here is how the tower looked. It is similar to the one I made for underdog, but that one was made from teak wood w/ ebony feet.

toastytower.jpg

I used food grade silicone feet for the conical shaped HI which just allows the power plug to fit. It can't fall out because there is no where for it to go. It is made from a mulberry tree branch. I use the two screen method for capturing material in the roasting tube so it doesn't fall out when dropping it down onto the heater cover. Will probably make more of these as they are a bit easier to make than the toasty top and don't require a separate stand.

Yo Pam is that a square Halo HI? I've been wanting a Halo log for a while now! What wood was used? Looks like maybe Walnut up top. It's a sharp looker for sure

My partner just outlawed vaping inside, do my whole vaping world is upside down! My turn just came up with Alan, too. I was planning on getting at least a base for my iheat and world love one of these, but now it looks like I'm limited to just portables. :(

I am planning on loaning my Toasty Island to my sister so it continues to get some use, but dag. A Halo volcano shaped HI would be so awesome

Hey Diggy,
yes , that is a HaloHi Square log .
Walnut Top, Cherry Base.

i have 2 bulbs to switch from .
in the photos i posted , the strongest of the two bulbs is installed . at 12v it gives a very dark roast. voltage can be lowered with a voltage controller to start or end where wanted .
the other bulb roasts lighter at 12v , a more golden brown abv . this bulb would work well without a voltage controller as it’s very well calibrated.

both bulbs offer fully extracted , evenly roasted, stir free rips or sessions.

i dig the stainless steel roasting tube, along with the stainless steel heater cover , this vape feels strong and durable . only thing that could go wrong is the bulb burning out and even then it’s only 2 screws to change it . simple process. remove two screws, pull top from base , exchangeyour bulb , screw top back to base and off to the races you go .

feel for you about your partner banning vaping inside , been there myself, we now live apart!! vaping not being the only reason.

@P.A.M. - this looks very cool. i have been debating the square HI, but will probably wait until my number for a custom unit comes up. this however is the wood combo i would have asked for too, love the looks of this one, particularly with the glowing bulb, congrats.
does the halogen change the experience vs a regular heater? apart from it glowing (which really is neat)?
i am just asking because i never had a chance to try a halo vape, havent read much about them either. but just going by looks, i think this is sth id like to consider for my custom build many months in the future.

yes it does . although i can’t compare VS a regular Stainless Steel Heater log i had not tried one before this Halo HI

is the Halo HI experience different then my glass cover heater Bamboo HI ? hell yeah !

here is an in depth video , lots (i think) is covered , it is 18 mins long. vape with stainless tube, arizer tube, with d-020 water rig , even do a lightsabre show im the dark . i couldn’t see myself while it was recording , clouds were abit high , still, the bottom half shows this baby rips !!! oh yeah !

vape on!

Wow! I discussed the Halo option with @Alan a while back and it seems to fit the square HI very well

Maybe I take out the screwdriver and have a look, how hard it'll be to exchange the resistor for a bulb in my Square HI maple/walnut unit :D

Edit: Well... that's what you get, firing up FC on a lazy Sunday morning: Inspiration
Conversion doesn't look too hard. And as I was already at it, I made the heater cover fit for taking Vapcap tips with a short burst of a 10mm steel drill bit and the drill press.

Holy chit that's a gem @Alan !! I think I'd hand over my volcano for that in a heartbeat

Now I'm super curious how it would look if it had a little built in analog dimmer knob like the original :science:

Thanks for posting the photos and video @P.A.M. Glad you were able to get the bulb changed out. The only real challenge is getting the screws started in the holes again. I use a bit of beeswax stuck on the tip of the screwdriver to hold the screw while getting it started. Get all the screws snugged up to make final alignments and then tighten a bit more to secure everything. A fairly simple design.

@Diggy Smalls - Sorry to hear about only vaping outside. I will get you fixed up with an iHeat atomizer. You will enjoy it very much.

@blokenoname - I imagine it doesn't take much to drill the 7/16" ss heater cover tip out to 10mm so the Dynavap tip slides inside. I ruined my OG UD by trying to drill out the heater cover so it would accept ss roasting tubes. How does the 3/8" ss roasting tube fit into the 10mm hole in the heater cover?
I may have to make some of the 7/16" ss heater covers dedicated to Dynavap tips and of course Arizer tubes.
Glad to see you also had no trouble converting the square HI to halogen power. Now you can change the bulb whenever necessary. May also be able to still use the resistor by plugging it into the ceramic socket.

@invertedisdead - Glad you like the conical shaped HI. Would be cool to have some sort of knob to adjust the voltage. I could use the screws from the feet to hold a wooden bottom plate in place that would hide some electronics.

Thanks @Shit Snacks. Would be happy to make you a halogen conical HI someday. Made an account on new FC, but haven't received any confirmation email yet.

The good news for me is that I can vape inside at night now that I found a way to mitigate the aroma so it does not linger in the room. (Turns out the main culprit was the glass container I was using to store my skunky hemp) I do have an iheat cartridge and I'm looking forward to getting the base for it. I'll only be able to use it at night, but that's fine with me. Still looking forward to the updated info on all the goods you offer for sale. :) I think fcombustion will be a good home for your product threads. It's nice over there.

Hi Alan

Thanks :)
Re the drilling: I remembered your mishap with drilling out the UD core, but of course I was able to remove the heater cover here and fasten it properly in the vice, before drilling :D
With the drill press and the 10mm steel drill bit, this was actually very easy going. Took merely a few seconds to drill out the centimeter above the crimp, as this is really just about 0.25mm to scrape away all around for the drill bit. So this was fast, tidy work :)

48-F09-ABA-02-B7-486-B-B823-7-D9-E53-B1-DFF4.jpg

Just tried out the tips, I had cut from your original 3/8" roasting tube. The fit is a bit more loose now, as you can see (in other words, they rattle around a tiny bit), but still seal well enough to give you a satisfyingly even and nicely brown roast, as you can see
So the 3/8" roasting tube can also still be used with the 7/16" OD / 10mm modded heater cover.

Guess I will reuse the resistor in one of my DIY Misty Logs. Can't let that beauty simply go to waste :D

It's nice BTW, that you can adjust the ideal vaping temp to nigh ~12v now, due to your super long heater cover, which leaves much more room for adjusting the hight of the bulb within the cover. Nice work

As for the new FC forum and missing confirmation mails: This is a known problem, @Stu & Co. are working on. See this link here, what to do:

@Alan Man,i know you heard it before but that bamboo + cork concept in place of classic wood is genius... All my recent DIYs have that and i am giving it some thought.. You dont need heavy tools and high skills and it is one very forgiving concept for mother nature. Bamboo is easy and quickly replenishable .Also when cork is harvested they dont cut down trees, they just peel the bark and it grows back after a while,so it also can be considered a replenishable material :)).
One thing i am having hard time finding is bamboo that is in perfect condition on the outside ,most i find has the outer layer scratched at places, enough to give it character. Have you ever attempted to polish/sand the outer layer ,seems there is a intersting pattern undearneath ,or that will have a severe impact on durability ?

@ataxian :) I am aware bamboo is of the grass family, but do you know it tries to be a flower from time to time ?

""The flowering of a bamboo is an intriguing phenomenon. A phenomenon not because bamboo produces any spectacular flowers... but a phenomenon because it is a unique and very rare occurrence in the plant kingdom. Most bamboos flower once every 60 to 130 years depending on the species!! The long flowering intervals are largely a mystery and still astounds many botanists today with no definitive explanation.""
