Got my version 2 beta Sliver today and this thing is sexy. It did not like my evic mod or my vapespresso mod, and after a little bit of tweaking the screws to alter the old must a bit I got my smok al85 to read it. I'm going to try turning it down a little bit tomorrow to try to raise the resistance a bit, or lower it I'm not sure how that works exactly but I know that's what I need to do. Right now it is knocking up my fucking socks off at 18 Watts

Hey all, just got my Sliver in the mail yesterday. Having some technical difficulties at the moment. Kept saying there was a short somewhere. Also, just a heads up, anyone who is testing these will need to make sure they are using a regulated device that can handle ohm levels as low as
.05ohm.

The Gen 3s definitely work with the Sliver, but others might have issues. Be sure to check the specs on your mods before usage.

If your Splinter encounters a short, loosen the screws slightly. Make sure they are still snug, but just not super tightened down.

You can also use the included bamboo sticks and dab tool to reshape your coil if you have to do any trimming or take the coil off the RDA base. It produces the perfect setup.

I spent 3 hours today working on mine. My unit keeps shorting out and I think the coil screws are the culprit. If they are tightened down with anything more than a feathers touch, it comes back with a short. I've also raised the ohm level up a bit by trimming about 1/16th off the long edge (it's now up to .1ohm).

Wattage wise, I have found that 15W is the max mine will go without hot spotting and starting to glow red. I personally won't be going over 15 Watts with this particular coil until we get things more dialed in. I'll be testing actual dab performance later on when I don't have a child running around

Updated heater after trimming and adjustments

I also attempted to swap out the screws for ones with slightly smaller screwheads and that did not help with shorting, so it may not be the screws at fault, but the interaction with the mesh heater being pinched between the deck and the screwhead. Still too early to tell atm

Ah I have no idea when mine is coming, no tracking or anything, but it sounds like I may be in over my head haha we shall see... Also don't have any dabs just yet

@Shit Snacks if it's sent out, it shouldn't be much longer before you get it.

When you get it, if you encounter any shorting issues, start with loosening the screws a bit. Obviously make sure nothing can get loose heater-wise but that's gonna be your first area of troubleshooting. Hopefully you won't encounter anything like or beyond that and you can get to testing!

I'm having glowing heater issue at low wattage (above 15 watts) and the glow is bad. I'm still working on finding a solution. If I find the answer, I'll be sure to post it. @antispleen said he isn't having any hot spotting issues so hopefully you'll be in luck as well!

Yeah I'm all the way in California, so probably Monday though I'm not sure the mail arrived yet today... Thanks! I have RX dna250 and G3D, but they are for my Splinter V2 and Z respectively... Not sure I'll want to swap, I also have a Cuboid Mini with Tubo firmware at least. Should really not be buying another mod for a while though a P80 would be tempting lol

Awesome to hear about some betas in the wild. You guys are doing God’s work. Work out the kinks so the rest of us can get the best product.

Bear with me friends, I have been testing. I had a similar hotspotting experience, although not blowing red until I crank the wattage way up. But not heating evenly.

So I removed the mash, snipped a little bit of each side and put it back on there. It not giving mods trouble anymore, and the hot spotting I worked past with a bit of adjustment and trial and error. But I've got it now to a point where it is working more evenly and i am high as hell

@antispleen It doesn't look like the images are working. What was the wattage at when you noticed the hot spotting? As far as the mesh goes, how much did you end up trimming off and what is your Ohm level at now? Also, I'm still having the issue of hot spotting. How did you end up getting rid of that? Thanks!

I noticed the uneven heating when my concentrates were not melting in properly. When I would crank it up to 50 watt and blast it after a few seconds I could see it heating up on one side on the bottom. I did not measure what I turned off, just a little bit. I know that is super helpful (/s), but I'm not the most detailed oriented person and I'm high as hell. .104 are my ohms after trimming it. to fix the hotspotting I removed it straight into the whole thing out so weird and then using a wood skewer reformed it the best I could. I will do my best to make a more coherent post with pictures that work some details when I am not so fucking medicated. Sometimes I a bit overwhelmed

*Edit holy fucking ass crackers my speech-to-text butchered that.

Hahahahahaha it's all good man! I figured you would respond later when you had come out of the clouds lol. I'm just trying to figure out the issues with mine as well. I would love to be able to crank it up for some big hits without it glowing!

Also, does anyone know what material is used in the heater? Is it SS or Ti?

Ok awesome! Now I'm not as worried about it reaching higher temps! I thought it might be titanium which is why I was afraid of the glowing. This changes things! And thanks for the pics!

Ah wait do we even know what standard operation should look like? Regarding glow, ohms, size, at what wattage or anything else... Also btw imgur sucks bc they blacklisted FC, use tinypic instead and then you can embed

From what I understand, glowing is not ideal, though if the mesh is SS, shouldn't have any negative health effects. The problem with glowing coils is that over time, they oxidize and degrade, and those particles have to go somewhere... Which in this case would be the lungs. No bueno. There shouldn't be any glowing unless it's cranked way up for burn off and cleaning purposes only.

Regarding the rest, your heater should be around .05ohms when you get it. You'll want to start out at around 8 Watts and work your way up from there. If it's working properly, I would say don't go over 22 Watts. Flavor will degrade and it's just not a great experience in general. So 8-22 Watts is going to be your vaping range with this device. The coil may need some adjustments/trimming so take it slow. Ideally, the finished product should have a .7ohm heater so that more mods will be compatible with it. That'll be in the future though. At this stage in the process and with this round of heaters, expect to start with a .05ohm coil

Thank goodness for detail oriented people like khelek41girl...I am just way too much of a Stoner to be able to keep all this shit straight. So trimming it and just fucking with the coils I was pretty much done it for me. I'm not getting any glowing, unless I blast it at 50 watts for a few seconds. It is still heating a bit unevenly, toward one of the screw posts, but messing around with skewers and just reforming it and reforming it and keeping at it and then turning it up to 50 watt and blasting it red to see where the hot spotting was has gotten me to a place where it is working well. It is not as even as my previous beta model but I fucked with that quite a bit to to get it dialed in. So I am using it starting around 14 watts. Getting amazing flavor and serious longevity out of less than a rice sized piece of concentrate.
I usually end the session around 22 Watts. And I'm going to have to get some less strong concentrate because this shit just knocks me on my ass.

Oh, and this

Lol thank you! Building coils satisfies my tinkering urge so I love to do it. I've been doing it for a long long time.

I'll have to glow mine all red to see if I can get things to even out. Maybe that'll help. I was going to do some testing last night, but my concentrates are crazy strong too! I got totally blasted to the Moon the last time I did the testing. I found myself spending 30 minutes staring at the coil expecting something to happen. I'm surprised I wasn't drooling I was so high lol. I'm sure I'll do some testing tonight though

Edit: I just got home and pulsed the coil at 50 Watts. After 5-6 good 1.5-2 second pulses, the whole thing was a dull glowing red. I strummed the coil with some ceramic tweezers while pulsing and got a nice even glow. Now, at 20 Watts, there's barely a visible glow by one of the screws. Later, I'm gonna do a dab at 20W. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit scared!!

I'm pretty happy with it the way it's working right now. Here is a video showing how is heating. I could not get it to Glow at 24 Watts.

Here's a video of my coil glowing at 20 Watts. I'm not sure there is anything that can be done with this particular coil to fix it, but at least it's useable at slightly lower temps.

That is a serious bummer and I hope Ryan gets you fixed up ASAP with some more mesh

Yeah I was expecting mine to come ready to go, I'm not sure I have it in me to bother with any tweaking when I don't know what I'm doing and hands still not 100... We shall see, maybe it'll be there today when I get home. Still nothing to test it with though anyway, but yeah dabs would be tough to do like I do herbs haha

Yeah, I probably do need a new coil, but I can make this one work for a little while. I'll wait until after Champs to talk to him about it. I know he's crazy busy getting ready, so I don't want to bother him with this

@Shit Snacks I'm sure you'll be fine when you get yours. You may have to do some minor adjustments, but mine had a weak link in the mesh and I had to shorten it. Also, if you need help, we can always chat on IG and I can walk you through things

Thanks @RastaBuddhaTao!

I don't know what wood that is but it is gorgeous and different on every side. Looks like heater may have been shifted at an angle down there, gotta slide it out and see... Unavoidable tinkering lol

1zlw36o.jpg

I actually don't seem to have proper tools for this and it is really hard to move the coil at all, maybe it is fine just like this, even if a little uneven? Touched the glass

Ah I poked and prodded and maybe made it a little better, try to turn it on and realized the mod battery was completely dead... Been a while and the battery is at 3.5v so hopefully its not going to have shitty battery life from now on but oh well. Anyway with the tubo firmware it seems to show .059ohm at least?

Thanks! Yeah mine actually didn't come with any, I should have some somewhere, the last when I got I sent to a friend with other stuff though. Anyway I got it charged and did a test firing at 12 Watts just to see and there was no glow at all though it was getting warm. So that is a good thing I take it? lol

Very good sign indeed! You will want to blast it at 50 Watts for a second or two at a time eventually so you can get to know the heat pattern a little bit and break in the coils. They seem to do better after they have been blasted a few times
