Discontinued The Grasshopper

I don't have the pen and I only read the instructions on my packs...
(Lost some detail resizing pic to fit screen)

Seems my instructions are a little short...

After checking their website it does say to remove excess leaving a thin layer, to me that means we are not wiping it all off just any drops that could run, I haven't used it yet so I could just be confusing myself here and maybe even if you try and wipe it all off it would leave behind a thin layer

I think I just took "wipe it off" too literally, it's late here I'm pretty baked and covered in fibreglass wool so I'm itching like a scabby dog, anyway apologies for my confusion  :D

There are so many variants of these products that it's easy to make a choice and then think again...

These types of applicators work best for me because I can be sloppy and like tiny amounts to mete out.

Thanks for posting the instructions you have for it. I'm thinking each different application method (tube, pen, oil, etc) may have a unique method, best suiting the likely places they are to be used.

But the 'leave a thin film' is something I have not done. I also haven't screwed and unscrewed the hopper before wiping off the DetoxIT. Hmmmm.

Why do you assume I got the new resistors? I actually didn't check. But as long as it's working I'm not gonna worry. Plus got a warranty anyway :-)

Edit: Mine was GT0037xx

I meant lucky that you got a newer model although I don't know how you aren't curious enough to check the resistors lol.

I guess I'm a little disappointed with the titanium hopper overall. It's more expensive than stainless steel one I have so I assumed it would be an upgrade in quality, but it actually seems to be the opposite. The titanium is noticeably lighter in the hand but the seam where the mouthpiece and body fit together is more pronounced. The way the back end and mouthpiece screw in is significantly rougher when compared to the SS. Even the the serial number printed on the back is crisper/clearer on the SS.

As far as performance goes I'm not sure I'm on a T break now and will be for a while.

So my titanium model came in and it's a GT0028xx model

I opened it up and looked at the transistors. Only 6 of them.

Also the LED lights up if I'm moving the temperature dial. I haven't had a chance to try it wth herbs yet, but I'm weary of it like dying on me fast

Well luckily I have a legit warranty ...

Or I can return it and wait X months for a batch from hopper labs

Oh it's also making a weird screeching noise if I touch it anywhere near the dial. Hahaha. That's not good

-edit- looks like the unit is heating up as well

Holy shit! If your grasshopper is screeching, it's time to find whatever they call the kind of veterinary specialist who practices on grasshoppers and/or other winged insects!

Ok first issue.

The extra battery I got sent with my hopper is dead. Doesn't do anything in the hopper. And I tried to connect the USB cable. Tell me it isn't so that I only have one battery? Will my nitecore d4 that I should be getting today magically fix this battery? Hopefully hopper will send me the 3 extra batteries on order. That should work.

I did contact the eBay guy to see what he says about the extra battery.

I literally had a dream last night I was using a grasshopper, and showing it off to my friends. My dreams are about vaporizers, now.

Growin up!

I had my first day dream about this one in 1996. The list don't stop at the Hopper either. I won't go into detail here on that, But also had a normal dream well after knowing it really exist a few months before mine arrived, It works just as it did in the dream which is a great thing.

Compare the back contacts on the batteries. Notice if the blue "circle" around the contact is smaller on the "dead" battery. Use an Exacto blade to carefully remove excess blue sheathing.

Happened with one of my batteries.

I contacted the eBay seller (amazing by the way. Super good). He said he will send me a new battery as a replacement since mine came completely not working. I am super happy with the level of service he has provided.

I will look at the battery today, but I hesitate to do any "operations" on the battery. LOL. But maybe I'll feel courageous. LOL

Thank you very much for your response.

Understood.... I got my "dead" battery from GHL and they immediately sent a new one and told me to "discard" the "dead" one.
I just couldn't just not use a perfectly good battery. It was easy enough, just have to have a very sharp pointy razor-knife to trim a bit of it away. I posted a pic of this issue sometime back.

Now I use that battery as my way of getting the most out of a nearly spent chamber before putting in a a regular-duty battery on a fresh load.

@moondog , yep, methinks it might be a good note for the Resource thread, though I can understand if anyone wouldn't want to do this to the battery if they're uncomfortable with that.

Here's a video of the light / noise it's making.
Whoa! Is something alive in there?

I can't think of any explanation that would discount the need to send in a warranty request.

This seems to be an issue when I'm screwing the clicker part to the body of the Grasshopper., or keep it loosely screwed on. It like turns on/squeals/heats up unless I screw it on very tight. Either way, doesn't seem very high quality control.

I asked the ebay seller if I can do an exchange versus going through Hopper Labs

How long does it generally take them before they ship out a batteries, mouthpiece and sleeve order?

Edit: They don't have any sleeves in stock. So 2 weeks they said. I asked if she could ship my 3 extra batteries and 2 mouthpieces before the leather sleeve arrives. I said I would gladly pay for shipping if need be.

----

Sorry if this belongs in the shipping thread... It's not really a grasshopper i'm waiting to ship though LOL :-). Just a general question hahaha.

That's very strange! I've never seen lights or any activity while screwing in my backend.

I tried to replicate your results by letting my Grasshopper's auto-shutoff switch engage. This turns off the heater and lights but leaves the clicker in the on position.

After it was off I tried unscrewing the back end and screwing it back in. I tried jiggling it around as much as possible. I never heard a sound remotely like that screeching, just the normal clicker sound from the heater.

This definitely sounds like a defective unit. I hope you can get this resolved quickly.

That's great, Jabba!

Great pics, Green. Looks like mine as well. Makes me feel like I should really take care of those threads, because they don't get "better" with use!

Have you used DetoxIT on the threads at all? Maybe its me, but it really seems to make the screwing/unscrewing feel smoother.

What @kingfisher said about the threads is right on; all those spikey edges on the threads is where the oxidation will more likely occur between.

No way I'm putting that stuff in the mouthpiece threads!

In my opinion, this is a very ominous result from my test. I'm quite concerned, especially with the TI. I see much less evidence of metal shavings on the SS. Since my first cleaning, the SS hasn't shown much or any signs of metal shavings in the front or back. The TI is worse every time I clean it, even after a week of no actual use. I've been soaking the front parts of the TI in 99% ISO for two days now. I'm going to make sure it is completely clean and then run another couple of tests, but some advice from me:

- If you are going to use a GH as a daily driver, use a SS, if possible
- If possible, thoroughly clean your mouthpiece threads every time it is opened. At least do a strong blow through the mouthpiece once it is removed.
- Be very gentle removing your mouthpiece from the hopper. Apply no pressure and definitely do not pull or push on the front end as you screw/unscrew. If things are gunked up and you feel any resistance, do a deep cleaning before next use.
- Do not load you hopper by dunking it into your grinder or storage!
- If you use water, then you can likely not worry about this, since its unlikely metal shavings will make it through the water.

Okay... I think my gh is shitting the bed. First issues last night.

:(

Thank you to the people that referred that link a few pages back for quick access to try a new hopper. Mine arrived today. Ordered on Saturday. Wanted it now badly, have a preorder as well that I am waiting on. Very excited to see the results of this thing. The product is legit for those on the fence. I ordered TI but first impressions after opening it is "did he send me a stainless? I guess I dont have both to compare metals. I only tested, did a pre warm up to make sure it works, all good so far. Front end/chamber got hot quick, quite impressive and I now see hot how the vapor is. I think I can handle the heat and should do fine as intended. Fingers crossed on how long it will last. I test fitted my kfirrer case. Its a nice fit, hopper doesn't move or jiggle at all on both the sides (hopper side and battery compartment side) It's a great portable 3D printed hard case from what's available on the market and decent price for his efforts and hard work that went into designing it. Will share my experience after I get to rip one on it tonight.

You can confirm the metal by looking at the serial. GT = Ti ; GS = SS

Why do you assume I got the new resistors? I actually didn't check. But as long as it's working I'm not gonna worry. Plus got a warranty anyway :-)

Nice. Looks like you got one that is consistent with recent shipments direct from GHL.

I agree. I notice the finer details are better on the SS. The notches on the dial on the TI kind of bug me. Looks like they are half filled with solder or something. I noticed the exact same thing about the serial number printed on the top. It looks kind of faded/dirty on the TI. I do like the color and weight of the TI better, though.

Resource thread?
Due to the inherent safety issues with Li-ion batteries I am hesitant to add this to the resource. I would hate for someone to misunderstand the directions and cause damage or even worse, injury.

Not that I think it isn't worth trying for people who understand what they're doing and the risk involved. I would do that myself rather than waste a functional battery.

I don't feel comfortable recommending that people "fix" their batteries. It's best to just contact HL and get a new one sent out.

beautiful setup! I kinda sorta really want an orbiter. :D

You have batteries for days.

Ryot makes a little bag called the piper. It looks like its the perfect stash spot for the orbiter + GH. It has basically a little pen slot that the hopper fits in and then the other part would stash the orbiter.

 I am almost certainly gonna get me one of those Orbiters for my hopper.

Ah, good point. My own battery knowledge is very rudimentary so I wasn't thinking it through.

I'm gonna check that out. Thanks for the tip.

Hmmm interesting, I was thinking about purchasing a pelican case, but this one seems like a better choice for my needs. Thanks!

I looked at a review and it seems like that case would be too small for the Orbiter. Maybe I am thinking the Orbiter is much bigger than it actually is?
