The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Don't tell Arizer you opened it up and put it back together nicely. Could void your warranty and then you're just stuck with a unit that's broken with no free fix.

Sorry to hear about you issues.

Do you guys prefer running the fan while inhaling the vapor through the whip attachment? Or do you prefer it with the fan off?

I use the fan but only because I have temperamental bronchial tubes. I just use Fan 1 though, because 2 let alone 3 greatly increases the air/vapor ratio and it also (for me at least) feels like sort of being force-fed; the higher fan speeds also decrease temperature a bit and I don't want to have to set that any higher than I have to. I turn on the fan and wait a moment until I see vapor exiting the mouthpiece (i.e., wait for air to clear from the whip) then take the mouthpiece and inhale both nose & mouth in sync with the fan (inhaling is more challenging for me if I have to pull hard), in effect letting my lungs fill like the Q does the bag. Then exhale back up thru my nose.

Only took me about a hundred different tries (incl w/bag & bong) to find this method works best for me.

That always seems to be the case with basically every Vaporizer. It takes a lot of patience and practice to really learn how these Vaporizers work best. Like you said, you basically have to find the "right method" for yourself.

I timed it a couple of times. Fan speed 3 = 7 mins before/6mins after tightening it up a little. Speed 2 took 9 mins. No way did I wait for speed 1, could have rolled a burned a b!unt in that amount of time.

...

So notwithstanding the fact that the fan is cavitating because the air outlet is so constricted, I'm losing a third of it out the side of the tube. Gonna try and call Arizer tomorrow and see if I can get a replacement.

fyi, just this week I ran some bag tests. On Fan 3 the bag filled, in almost exactly 2 minutes. On Fan 2 ~3.5 minutes. Fan 1 IIRC was 5-6 minutes. These were all with the cyclone half filled and a tiny smidgen in the elbow.

Arizer has a solid customer satisfaction reputation, so hopefully your defective unit will get swapped out straightaway. Don't know abt the warranty though, given you disassembled the unit. Good luck.

sparknhopper: I hope everything gets figured out with your unit...I know the prospect of sending out your vaporizer is daunting but it sounds like this is the perfect candidate for cashing in on Arizer's notoriously good customer service. Personally I wouldn't plan on having to upgrade the fan to overcompensate for a defect. Again, best of luck.

I don't really see the point in leaving so many goodies in the herb just for making edibles from my avb (although I do still make them). Why wait until later to enjoy what I'm ingesting right now?

Stu, one of the things I find really amazing about vaporizing is the allowance for the administration of temperature-specific compounds (cannabinoids or otherwise)...at the same time I think there lies a great misconception about our (vaporists) ability to selectively administer specific compounds (that is to say, I don't think with the tools we--most of us--have available we can truly or accurately assert anything more than preference for relative temperatures). In the end I completely agree with your latter statement that "its all personal preference;" sounds like you prefer the high-temps.

FWIW, there are a lot of users that would prefer to segregate the lower-temp compounds by just vaping at lower-temps and use the higher-temp ABV for targeted medical and/or recreational use, i.e. pain treatment or put'ya to sleep treatment ( ). I understand wanting to experience the whole package of compounds at once but the possibility of targeting our preferences (however rudimentary the temp-readout or what have you) is really cool to me.

Basically, the higher the temp, the quicker you receive your medicine. This is due to more material being vaped in a shorter time.

I hate to nitpick but I disagree a little here. My qualm is that there lies the possibility that distinct cannabinoids represent different medicines. Again, totally personal preference IMO. That said, I bet that the higher temps can offer perhaps a more instantaneous effect, that blast-you-back high more connoted with smoke? In either case, I don't necessarily think that a lower-temperature setting is inherently slower in the medicine that it delivers, rather, the compounds available at those temperatures don't offer that instant high; the medicine is still being delivered at the same rate (down the vapor tube or whatever the circumstance) but the effects may differ both qualitatively as well as chronologically. All my :2c:

Actually, It was Tstat that wrote that, not me. I fully understand targeting certain different cannabanoids by using specific temperature ranges. A more accurate statement might be "The higher the temp, the more types of cannabanoids are "liberated" simultaneously.

Cheers!

Oops sorry for the confusion, I copy and pasted incorrectly. Again, not at all trying to offend just trying to state my case lol.

I've wondered how exactly the lower-temp cannabinoids are released at higher-temps, flash-boiling I guess? I'd love to actually be able to see this process close up :o

hereatlast,
Yes my Extreme Q vaporizer showed up at about 1 today. Ordered off Ebay for about 165 and there was a cheapo plastic grinder thrown in too. Once the package got out of the sellers hands the USPS got it here pretty damn quick. Took my time opening up everything and going through the instructions. The unit was definitely smaller than I expected, but as I saw the way everything came together I was still impressed with the appearance. I guess my one question is this: the power adapter said Made in China, should I be worried? I did not understand the bag assembly at first but got it after a few minutes of frustration, so my bag was set. Set it up in another room with a window open for the initial burning off of factory chemicals(extra caution taken due to aquariums in main room).

After that I went ahead and dropped some ground herb into the cyclone bowl. Let that sit on top for maybe a minute or so, and then tasted........the goodness. Took several drags like that, and then decided to turn the fan on 1 for a vapor shooter. Oh man that was fun. I just started laughing at how cool this all was: the remote, the blue light, a digital display showing actual vs desired temp, the neat little glass stirring tool, extra mouthpieces for friends. I could not take much with the fan on as I was already getting blazed. So i decided to try the bag. At this point I wish I would have stirred the bowl but I didn't. Anyways the bag filled up in no time. It was kind of hard to get the balloon off the elbow because I had pushed the balloon mouthpiece too far into the tube(first timer mistake) There shouldn't be any complaints about the bags filling up slowly. The taste of the bag was not fantastic, but I think that has more to do with the herb being pretty well spent and my not stirring.
I will be trying a bag with fresh herbs in a little while as a friend is coming over. Have a feeling I will be converting some folks to the world of vapor here soon as all my friends wanna try it.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase. As mentioned in previous posts my only other vaporizer was an Iolite I bought last year for 250 bucks. I want to get a new IO as my portable even though I don't think I will use it often you want a backup, maybe they will be a little cheaper when I try. Back to the Q I kind of wish I went through an authorized dealer or straight through Arizer because I am pretty sure this thing wont be covered if something breaks. Alright I gotta go, I got at least 3 people on their way to try it. Thanks FC community, especially those providing knowledge here on the EQ thread. Oh yeah and Lwein that cat avatar is getting on my nerves. hahahaha:D

ty14,
Everyone loved it. The bags tasted great with fresh herb, and the herb wasn't brown for a good while. There were four of us and we were all just gone by the time we finished the second bowl. This thing is very versatile the way you can play with the temperatures. Cook it for a while at the low temps and then just turn it up when you feel it will help you get that better hit. I am interested in conserving my stuff so I will be looking at old threads about the elbow packing. But overall how do you guys think the EQ rates as far as conserving material?

Not sure, was that meant as a question? Assuming so . . . reading thru this long thread I've seen a lot of comments indicating that, yes, the user gets more mileage out of the same amt of material.

Of course, I can only speak from my own personal experience which is only a couple of weeks so far. My material is not hardly as good as many others here, and I think that is a significant factor. I'm finding that I use about the same amount of material. But I also find I need to use a higher temperature and stronger draw than many others, and I attribute that again to my material.

If you have fine quality herb, I would suggest starting with lower temps (~190C), being conservative with the elbow pack and doing by yourself (so other folks don't throw off your analysis), and being patient. Adjust temp and technique until you find the result you expect, and then if you wish go up from there to see how it changes. IME this is a multiple session learning process.

But if you have only modest-at-best quality, you will probably go thru this process in just a few sessions because you'll quickly find the herb is forcing you to a stronger temp and technique. And you may find as I did that mileage is not that much better (although I do have ABV to be reclaimed, so that should be factored in).

Everyone has to find just what works best for him/her. A lot of times that apparently results in greater mileage, other times not so much. It just depends.

Have I ruined my extreme Q?!

Hi,

Used the extreme q various times over the last month, but this time, I forgot the fan was running and I took out the top part from the vaporizer, lots of brown (used stuff) went everywhere and also down into the machine. I tipped it upside down and I can't get anymore out. (Don't know if theres more stuck inside).

Think it will be OK? all working fine atm, will any of this burn inside it and ruin the machine?

Forgetting to turn off the fan while using the "forced air whip system" can't be that uncommon. I've made this mistake, too. My guess is that you got it all out, just turning it upside down and blowing into the unit was enough to clear mine. I used a can of compressed air too, nothing more came out so appears that wasn't even necessary.

There has been a lot of discussion, debate, and complaints (with some moderator intervention) on this thread re buying the Q off eBay. Just search on "extreme-Q AND ebay" and you'll find the posts.

fwiw, you can buy it for $190+ from a number of different resellers through Amazon - you can check each seller's ratings and often find the reseller's own website, both of which helps to validate who you're buying from. You mostly want to be sure that the reseller is an authorized member of Arizer's affiliate program, and so the warranty will be honored. Arizer is very responsive; you can always use their Contact page to check if a seller is legit.

Be sure you are getting the newest generation unit; there were a lot of improvements. In some product descriptions you'll see a ref to a "Version 4.0" but AFAIK there is no mention of such per se on Arizer's site. If you look at the image gallery there you'll see that there is now a bezel about 1/4" around the LCD which is held by a flat black face plate with the same finish as the rest of the base, upon which the buttons and labels are placed. IIRC, on the older unit the entire faceplate was a separate metal piece. In the image gallery at vapeworld.com there is a side-by-side photo of the Q with the older generation that makes this pretty clear.

I agree with the last two posts.

FWIW, sometimes people refer to the Extreme Q as Version 4/V4.

oldiebutgoodie, I'm still gathering thoughts on how to describe the difference between distinct diffusion styles, uh oh, more testing needed. :p

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I cant thank everyone in this forum and website enough for all their help in my vape research. I've been vaping for about 6 months now (still like to combust on the weekends, bad habbits die hard ). Started with a VB. Loved it and still do. I researched portable vapes and concluded the data said MFLB. I purchased this gem about a months ago and realized very quickly that I was missing a lot in regards to the vapor experience. That little wooden box nearly blew my doors off. After doing more research and with the help of the "Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects" thread, I bought an iolite for the low 190C constant temp on the go...nice.

I knew I needed another home vape, and as usual, research, research, research...and much lurking throughout these forums brought me here.

Today I am experiencing my ExtremeQ for the first time. The precision, the control, the handling (in rolls the new EQ on wheels, caution: driver is on a closed course). Impressed is an understatement.

Again, thank you all for the advice, recommendations and especially the reviews and narratives about your personal experiences. Qualitative data is just as important as quantitative data IMO. I plan to be doing more posting and R&D soon (always hungry for more knowledge:))...but couldn't be more satisfied in the present moment with my new Extreme Q.

THANK YOU FC!

treecityrnd,
Has anyone else noticed a difference in the proper temperatures based on indica/sativa? Admittedly, I've only put two strains through my Extreme Q, but I'm having to start about 15 degrees lower so that I'm not assaulted with vapor from the latter.

hi guys, I've owned a normal Extreme Vaporizer for the past year now and I just upgraded to a Extreme Q, i noticed only prob I have with it is the timer, I usually set it at 2 hours and when I see it's counted down about 15min I know it's ready for a vape. with this new one, it just stays at 2.00hrs, doesn't count down at all. Means i have to like take note of what time I put it on when I walk off. Is mine broken? or does it only count down by the hour not minute.

I love how its silent as compared to my other one though.

I've only ever had the EQ and I've never seen the timer count down. So no, yours is not broken.

I've not had an EQ nor have I ever used the shutoff timer on my Extreme v3, but the v3 shows me how long it's been turned on at the bottom of the display. Is this not true for the EQ?

Can someone tell me the differences in the versions? V2.0, V3.0, V4.0. How can I tell that I'm getting the newest model?

I have the E-Q and I think the main difference to know that it tis the latest is the color of the heating unit. The E-Q(V4) is darker (midnight chrome) the other versions are silver. Im not sure what the other main differances are though.

I accidently packed away my EQ while it was wamr so some of the foam in the box melted onto the top of the heating element as well as the screen on the heater.......the next day I ran it on full heat for 30mins to attempt to burn this plastic/foam off but the is now a sticky residue on it. Doesn't look to serious but any ideas on getting this off - I really dont mind taking it apart to clean but will this void any warranty?

On a final note, I have this unit for 6 days and been using it everyday so far, it is really worth the cash. Thick clouds, super stoned from minimal herb - I shouldv'e got 1 a LOOOOONG time ago.
