Luckily it was just the glass heater cover, however at the time I was totally unaware of how easy to fix this was and I actually thought it was attached to the heating element, fortunately the Arizer CS team helped me out faster than I could ever have imagined and guided me right.

I've had this EQ for around 7 years (it was a warranty replacement) and had no issues with it at all, maybe it is just down to wear and tear as I am very gentle with all my personal stuff however I do gently twist the dishes off when removing from the EQ and when I turned the pot pourri dish I could hear a horrible grinding so maybe the glass had eroded or cracked?

My machine is all fixed now, the heater cover only cost £8 so I bought a spare too :)

It's good practice to get put of the habit of twisting ground glass joints.....

    They should just pull off.....
If not, a gentle rock, back and forth, should free it off....

Glad to hear your back up and running now though......

Just wondering if anyone has tips for strengthening the vapor in the bag. I have the new set from Arizer but the vapor is always pretty weak.

Buy the Ddave mod from Ddave, his glass gets lower to the heat element and works wonders.
You can buy it directly from his website now instead of from ebay: http://www.ddavemods.com/

Sativa will not give big clouds as Indica in my experience..

Other than (1) leaving the EQ plugged in the outlet and off for an hour to allow the transformer to get warmed up. (2) Preheating the glass 10+ minutes. and having your materials at best to vape. There is doing baskets packs for more concentration of heat to materials and having a good seal from EQ to bag.

Any setup that reduces drag will help with the bag filling quicker. Are you using the latest glass adapter that is made for the EQ? @little maggie? There are mods and FCers here who came up with setups like me that had things primed for good bag fills. KIM bag fills have forced air going through the baskets at the speed of the fan.

Some users start at say F1 and fill 3 - 4 bags. Others at a higher temp with a small pack and fill one bag and have deeper roasted ABV. And other methods that I have read or mentioned in earlier posts. Just remember that there is a danger zone where small particles will absorb enough heat and perhaps be packed to dense also and cause combustion. :cuss:

If the glass has preheated long enough, then there is enough hot air passthru for a good extraction. Also having all the air squeezed out of the bag beforehand helps.
good luck. :peace: The ddave link is in my sig. BTW http://www.ddavemods.com/

    Nothing for bags at present.

If I was going to look into modding a bag setup, I would think I would need to move closer to mega-dosing? I think there would be too much loss in filling small (think baggie) bags.

    ========== Humor Break, Sorry... =============

Please note, before clicking either button below, that V1 of this mod only works with one type of vape, while the later V2 is adaptable to many!

I use the new bag setup from Arizer with the shorter F/F adaptor that came with the Ddave kit. The angled filler tube takes a special ground glass "mouthpiece" for connecting the balloon, super easy connection. The Ddave adaptor with the supplied tongs makes changing loads easy as well. A very efficint way to enjoy your cannabis.

I've been micro-dosing with bags and the Original DDave bowl ... with great results :-)

Life just got easier too ... I bought a set of mini measuring spoons https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009X1P9S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and the second smallest one (a "smidgen") holds .04g ... I get 4 or 5 nice hits.

    typically, I'm vaping @ 356*F/180*C
    Fan speed 1 (90 seconds)
Pre-heat the herb for 5-10 minutes
    EQ completely warmed up too

The bags I've been using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LKAK2W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
might be a little smaller than the stock bags - not quite sure - but they're $13.50 for 25 bags.

If I'm feeling like getting more vapor in the bag (hey little maggie :-), I put an oversized scoop ... might not be as efficient, though ... with about .05/.06g, there's still some vapor being produced when the bag's filled ... but with .03/.04g, it seems that everything is extracted.

There might be an advantage to smaller bags. How noisy are the chicken bags?
I half jokingly mentioned cooking something in a vape worn turkey bag before. Others were keen to my idea. :p
With the EQ you want to come up with an EQ-ation to work. You have all the things pulling together for you. Including having the EQ fully warmed up. You don't elbow pack, but you are using tiny amounts, just enough to cover the screen.

Small inside volume between bowl and bag helps with keeping the air-vapor mix thicker as it passes to the bag. I prefer a straight path also for less restriction and bags fill a lot quicker and thicker with no drag if possible. For a host of reasons.

I do like Vape Bags brand vapebags. Not as noisy, tapered at the end. Less likly to form creases and tiny holes. There is two pieces formed together as opposed to an average bag.
They lay on their side nicer. Etc.

More of an experimental thing, I have placed a screen above the materials to catch the larger particles and have them reheat them as the fan works it's magic.
I'm crazy enough to see the benefits of both. :freak: Not sure what to say about the stealth factor if I was to use either in public.:borg: O.K.

I have a sad story but it has a happy ending. Recently I had some flooding in my basement. After the water receded I noticed my E (pre EQ) went dark. It would not fire up. The power supply was on the floor and shorted out. I emailed Arizer and they responded that I could try a new PS or take advantage of a great deal on a new EQ or V tower. I gambled that all I needed was a new PS thinking the old one died to spare the E. I ordered a new PS and was very pleasantly surprised I got it in 2 days (Arizer has a DC less than 50 miles from me). Plugged in the new PS and my E is working as flawlessly as it was before and I was spared the expense of having to replace my E. If this happens to any of you try getting a new PS first before replacing what might not need replacing.

Hey all my arizerers :D I didnt know this was the unofficial ddave thread. Theres a dedicated thread for that. No worries though, Dave's kit is an ass kicker that really opens up the performance on the EQ and everyone who uses this vape should have a DDave kit to go with it.

FWIW, i dont use bags on my EQ, but i benchmarked my friends vtower filling up some bags on F2, with the stock cyclone bowls, it took a little over 3 minutes to fill a bag, while it took only about 2:20-2:30 minutes to fill the same bag with the 18/18 tall adapters. Quite an improvement and matches my earlier estimate of 30% improved airflow over stock.

Anyways, i have sad news. :( It seems my trusty 4 year old EQ is broken. It heats up and appears to act normally, but the temp control and accuracy is way off. Was having a normal session with an 18mm Dave adapter and a hydratube around 380F, but the vape was way thick and harsh and nasty, and my herbs were getting blackened near combustion.:o Had to shut it off.

Later testing, setting different temps, the actual temp vs the target temp was way off and would delay equalizing the 2 numbers. Changing the temp or fan causes the number to oscillate wildly. Even when i set a low temp like 200F and blow the fan, the air feels super hot like over 400, so it seems the temperature sensors are shot. :bang:

So is this fixable? Probably not, or not even worth it if so?

Does Arizer bother fixing them in a quick and low-cost manner, or will they tell me to get a new one?

Im probably looking to just buy another v tower real quick so i can continue D-Daving this weekend.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy that is legit and has maybe just the tower at a good price? Preferably the newest (2016?) version that has the quietest fans and best sensors, the EQ did get some minor upgrades in this dept. even though it remains the same product, correct?

Also, FYI i know some might be wondering how did this happen to me? I think i know why, double hookah accident.

I set up my EQ with 2-to-1 glass Y adapter which allowed me to set up 2 elbows with silicon tubes to attach to 2 different rigs simultaneously, on the same 18mm adapter on the tower.

There could be back-flow on this setup (no check valve) and I didn't mention this to my friend who gratuitously slurped on his rig so hard as to pull water out from my rig, all the way up the tube and into the adapter with the herb (and finger hash) soaking the bowl and even getting a bunch of water into the glass heater on the EQ. :o

It didnt reach its target temp after this soaking.

I had to take it all apart, toss the wet herb, hold it upside down to drain the water and ran the fan to dry it out. Miraculously, after a couple minutes, the screen indicated the heat was going back up, and it was even accurate and worked! This was a few months ago and it has worked fine after this accident, until this Saturday.:(

This is why we can't have nice things.

I love to share my vape experiences with friends, but i hate having to give them a detailed speech every time before hand. :shrug:This turns off and discourages the vape-demure and ignorant and makes me out to be a vape nazi, (do this! dont do this!) but then they end up breaking my shit :cuss::rant::mad:

    EDIT: no leads, guys?

A little searching turned up this retailer in IL has the best price i can find, $104
    http://r.ebay.com/SmrW9q

I usually avoid purchasing from ebay, but this seller has alot of sales with good feedback, seems legit.

I also emailed arizer about my problem, and a possible repair or replacement, but im not holding my breath with them. :(

One of my friends had a big hassle with arizer replacing his unit when it stopped working, took weeks, and many multiple emails and follow ups! Wish they wouldn't hide their phone #s from us!:bang:

I took a closer look at the DDave kits earlier this week after trying the whip set up for the first time since getting the EQ a year and a half ago.
The novelty wore off and I'm back to the bags, but I've been thinking about the DDave 14mm kit for filling bags ... would the 14mm kit provide enough of a difference (I'm using the Original DDave bowl with the new glass mini whip) to improve my air/vapor mix?

The chicken bags don't seem any louder than the stock bags ... I do miss the tapered design for sure though.

I got mine through an authorized Arizer dealer and shipped it to him. The problem was a bad PCB, so I got that RMA'ed with little hassle other than the seller was in Canada.

Units are getting cheaper online, but do you send it to them if there is a problem? I need to be updated on who is best to buy from, but Aroma-tek might be close enough and they do repairs in house or so I read. :hmm: Anyway, there has to be an Authorized dealer that handles the RMA edn of things.

EDIT. @TomC1315 I think it would be restrictive and cause drag. Think of the diamater of the wand end and the surface area of screen in the basket.
The 14mm is good for condensing whip vapor. Like say with whole unshredded bits in a 14mm @DDave bowl.

    Thanks for the reply @CuckFumbustion

Surprisingly, arizer responded to my email pretty quickly with instructions on how to disassemble and clean my unit. I followed that, and found my unit to be fairly clean on the inside, with only a modest, expected amount of old vaped flowery stuff.

I put it back together fairly easily, and powered it up, but it was having the same problem still: the temperature numbers on the screen didn't equalize, and the air that it blew out was way hotter than the screen indicated (its not hard to tell if air is 122F or 400+F if you hold your hand in front of it)

It seems this one is toast. The arizer rep said that this kind of damage is probably not repairable, and offered me a deal for about 108+ tax for a new unit shipped to me. Pretty close to the best other deals i can find, so that looks like my likely route right now.

@TomC1315 , the 18mm ddaves should help with bag use, but idk with the 14s. I found bags fill quicker with ddave 18s. Have you tried your adapters with a whip and hydratube or dab rig too? Much better than just the whip.

Are you sure those chicken bags are safe for vaping? Could be food grade, but is the temperature rating high enough?

EDIT: I just want to share here the instructions the arizer rep gave me on cleaning my unit. It's nothing top secret, and should be good, useful open source info, if it's not already posted on this 400+ page thread :o (probably is?) so here it goes:

Also, this is what our EQs look like minus the cover. Probably nothing new to you arizer vets. This is the first time in 4+ years I've opened this thing. More electronics and boards are visible underneath this, but the heater and fan are more cool to look at.

    Hi,

so I bought a used Extreme Q3 on eBay, kind of by accident, basically because the poor sucker really effed up the description and had super shitty pics etc, So my (very low) max offer was even too much in the end. Kismet.

I can confirm what many wrote before me: its ok as a session vape for 3 and more users, but not really that great as a single--use unit. You need to fill the cyclone bowl at least half full (quite a lot of material for one) and heat the thing up for a long time to get decent clouds, or use the elbow piece as bowl as many recommended. But still then it's not really better than my 80 EUR FocusVape when it comes to cloud thickness and overall efficacy, not to mention my Grasshopper or Firefly. Must say I was a little underwhelmed. Not saying it's a bad vaporizer though, it makes quite a reliable, sturdy impression. The seller apparently had it standing on a lot of dry leaf (no shit!) and all sorts of junk. with the fan on, so I had to unscrew the bottom to clean it, and the interior makes a good, solid impression. Seems to be super service friendly, mostly discrete components, which is very nice.

As there is a strong heat source below the bowl, its not so great to fill it with a long evening's portion, as you can do with the DeVerdamper or Aromed (heat source above the bowl). Also I need to let it heat up for quite a long time after the LED indicates the desired temperature has been reached, thus heating up the material. Only then it will produce really dense clouds from material in the cyclone bowl. As the bowl will get very hot during that time, what happens is basically a combination of convection and conduction. But this is the case with many so-called true convection devices, so that's fine. I would not particularly praise the taste, and my device kind of adds a "hippie living room" aroma, most probably from the pre-owner. You know, this daily bong smoking plus patchouli thing. The pre-heat airflow thru the device has its flaws. Huge inner surface that can get sticky and collect dust and debris and smell when you use the fan I could imagine. Maybe a replaceable or cleanable filter would be a nice idea.

The balloon function worked quite ok, here I could produce some decent clouds, but compared to the Volcano it took quite a long time to fill a small balloon of less than a gallon, so I'm not sure if that thing is party-compatible. How long will it take me to fill a 3 ft. balloon? Otoh it's only a fraction of the price of a digital Volcano.

On the plus side it's super easy to use, the remote is nice and it's working quite ok with the cyclone bowl filled at least half, up to nearly full.So if you're looking for a multi-user desktop whip device, this is probably one to consider, but then maybe the V-Tower is good enough. It's NOT recommended as a single user device, unless you have a seriously high tolerance or really, really love the balloon function. Price-perfomance is probably alright, because it's seemingly built to last.

    Best,
    Hamma

With the right technique and preparation the eq can produce very thick, tasty clouds....

A @DDave kit will help achieve this.....
But he is about to release v3 so I'd wait on
    that...

Even stock, the eq can still be made to work very well....

And with the elbow pack method, the eq can be very efficient....
A third of a basket, lightly tamped, works very well...... and its only about 0.05...
You should get 2 goes on this...

Heat soak is very important for the eq....
Get the glass got to the touch....

Yeah, thanks, that looks interesting. I don't really like the "heat soak" idea though, this is basically conduction, and waiting 10 minutes before taking a hit is a little too flintstone in my book. Been there ;)

The heat soak needs to be done with the glass parts.... not the herb...

The heat soak helps the convective air retain its temperature as it moves over cooler sufaces on its way to the load...
and so vaporize your herbs better....

It also seems to make it harder for the essential oils to condense out on the wand/elbow....
