Just got back from Vegas with the Pax. Tossed it in the suitcase and had no problems. I actually used an eyeglass case that fit it snugly. Not a bad fix. I took out the mouthpiece and had no problem with it turning on. I did try to deplete the battery and clean it as best I could with a q-tip before repacking to come home. It was a breeze to travel with. No one knew what it was. I even used it in the casinos with little concern...albeit some discretion. When people are smoking, you can't really tell.
I have some ne-wish thoughts. Some have been shared and I feel need restatement.
First, I've been primarily using the unit on the medium temperature. For my next bowl, I've decided that I'll test it on the lowest temperature. I'm a bit surprised to hear people hitting it on the high temperature. I did that and got very visible vapor, but the hit was not tasty...and it burns through the material faster. It seems unnecessary as the medium temperature is slightly above where I thought it needed to be anyways.
To get the best hits and the largest quantity of hits, you must pack the living crap out of the bowl. The bowl needs to be packed full and then some...tight and to the brim. Today, I packed the crap out of it and vaped 5 sessions of 2-3 hits a piece before needing a repacking or stirring. It also gave me huuuge hits (on medium temp). Even after the 5 sessions of 2-3 hits (turning it off in between), it still showed the green battery life. On session 6, I repacked and stirred, took 2 hits and the battery life was purple....and it's still hitting. That means it should be good for at least 15-18 strong hits on medium temperature. I have a high tolerance and found these hits to be quite deep and satisfying. While I found my Davinci to hit more per bowl, those hits were not as strong. So, I'd be taking more hits to get as high as I would with a couple hits on the Pax. To be honest, I think the Pax gets you higher than the DV.
In ny initial experiences with the unit, I wasn't packing it as fully and I found myself stirring and re-packing after only a couple hits. Is there a trick for vaping a smaller quantity? I'd love to know. By the way, another trick: I've been taking off the oven lid off to facilitate the packing (once it cools a bit). It works quite well when you pack down one side of the bowl at a time with the lid. You can always use a pen or paper clip to stir.
