LOL according to my time clock it says 5:20.

We are on the same coast though. Hmmmm, I might need to check my settings.

EDIT - Yup... Damned DST box was checked.

Hello all,

I do not seem to receive updates every time someone posts... anyway, I have been super busy doing some minor/major design changes to the OCD vaporizer and I notified you guys/gals who have current orders in that it might be a week or two extra wait which is a bummer but you all were nice enough to allow the extra time for me to do beta version 1.1 .

...Some information on the added/changed benefits that are going on...

I noticed that there was a large number of people that looked at the OCD vaporizer and had an immediate predisposition to compare it to the other wooden vaporizers, which is completely understandable but I *first* built this vaporizer with the intention to be on only during periods of direct use. However due to the fact that many of you would like to keep your vaporizers on for longer durations (whether accidental or purposefully) it became apparent that a slight design change should be considered to make sure that there is no over-heating situations and I also wanted to try to make the heat up times even quicker and be able to give the world a 220v version. (still working on that as we speak). The heaters I currently have been using are made from a nichrome wire encased in ceramic and MGO sealed in stainless steel. The new ceramic heaters I will be using will be a slightly different design concept, they will have an internally preset maximum temperature that the heater will not surpass, the Positive Temperature Coefficient heaters I will be using have an extremely long life (UL listed at over 100,000 cycles) and will not require any use of external thermocouples, probes, or an external sensing equipment to control the maximum temperature. Which would result in a safer, long life heater that is still a simple and straightforward design. Whenever I build something I try to use the highest quality products using the least amount of parts that can fail, I believe that this slight tweak will drastically increase the overall life of the OCD vaporizer and will also open up some doors that would not otherwise be an option if I stay with my current heating element design.

The first style heaters employed that nichrome wire as I had mentioned earlier, these were rated at 20 watts using 120 volts (which resulted in a thinner nichrome wire to make the 20 watt rating.) I wanted to offer the product to international customers, some of which whom operate on 220V. The engineers at the heater company I had been working with notified me that the nichrome wire (which does the heating) would be to thin if I wanted to run it at 220v, which virtually nixed that idea of offering a 220v version. If I am able to use these new style PTC heaters not only would I be able to offer the vaporizers to international customers; these heaters can be used at almost any voltage and the possibility of an electronic rechargeable portable version could be in the works as the years go on. I will be using a preset maximum temperature of 210C and you will still be able to use the potentiometer to dial in heat settings between ambient and maximum temperature.

What the new heater setup will entail:
* Possible faster heat up times
* Quicker recharge rates - these heaters respond instantaneously to heat changes
* 220v version to be available soon
* Extremely long life-cycles of operation for a reliable vaporizer
* A DC version that could be rechargeable/portable (...in the distant future)

I just need more time to refine some of the details, All of your current vaporizers have been spun and are waiting to be paired up with their heaters but I felt as though this next "web" batch should have the updated version. After these are finished, finalized, and sent out - Any and all who have purchased an OCD vaporizer from me before will be eligible for a free new heater setup if they feel as though they want it.

^^^That is the kind of customer service that keeps customers happy :) I was an early adopter on a ECig mod that is hand made in Maine. Whenever he makes an actual improvement to the internal design he always offers past customers to send them in for an upgrade. By the second time he opened orders he sold out of all 100 units he had on hand in about 4 minutes and his PC crashed LOL. To me the fact you are offering this upgrade to earlier customers speaks volumes. It also seems to say you are listening to what your future customers are wanting and trying to accommodate. Sounds like a great start to me :)

Just couldn't help but comment on the time of the post, it was three seconds after "Happy Hour" began. I always text my friends when I happen to look at the clock and see that time, it's like a common bond we have.

The design, concept and components used in the vaporizer seem very promising. However, I wish it had a better temperature display for finding the perfect temp.

I would love some kind of read out for what temp the vape is at. Even if it was a simple green and red light stating that it is heating at red, and at temp when the green is on.

Keep us the great work!

It's great that you're not only improving things but also offering ppl to upgrade their units.

I dunno, i think temperature markings around the dial and/or indicator lights would be quite arbitrary and just another thing that could potentially go bad. Maybe its just my time with the dbv/ssv that makes me feel this way, but i think temperature adjusting is all relative to whether youre getting vapor or not, specific temp doesnt matter.

With such a wide and arguable range in heat settings for vaporizing (which is why I added a potentiometer) I do not think I will add any temperature green/red indicators like you have suggested. This would involve more circuitry and a temperature probe which is what I was trying to eliminate from the vaporizer design. There are some things that I will just not be able to offer because of space constraints; there is only so many things you can pack into a wooden housing and hiding heater wiring, potentiometer wiring, and the inlet to the power chord is almost at the limit of what can be done with the current design. Also, I feel every time you add another electrical component you increase the risk of failure of the unit, or just failure of that part. I am trying to create a vaporizer that can satisfy the needs of the many while trying not to teeter on the threshold of superfluous.

...It would only take one or two uses of the OCD to know when your at heating temperature, either by gauging how long you have had the unit on and/or if the unit is pulling vapor, should be as easy as that. But I understand that you just want to know when you can vaporize and nothing is easier than a bright green LED to let you know, I just don't believe that it is fully necessary and if you had a unit for even a day or two I think in the long-run you might not find it that necessary either... but that is just speculation so don't hold me to it.

It appears you will not get an email for each post unless you visit the board at some point.

I apologize for the delay in writing a review as well.
Thank you so much Wes for getting this to me before Christmas as you said you would!!!!!
I will do my absolute best to have a review, pictures, and (hopefully) video up soon.
Going to try and grab a few hours of sleep, but will update this later.
This is my second vape (also have a mflb (w/pa) and this has been a very enjoyable learning experience! I have been reluctant to post due to lack of experience with other vapes (harder to give all of you a more accurate comparison); yet, I feel much more secure in my observations at this point. Also, I have updated those who frequent the chatroom with information and pictures since day 1, on an almost daily basis. (and intend on revising and submitting to the vapor wiki, as well)
Please let me know if you have any specific questions, etc.
Not to keep you in suspense for too long: I've had a VERY positive experience thus far overall, and feel this vaporizer already fills a much needed niche...and can only become more appealing to all surrounding segments as well. Very impressed and excited about the OCD!

[edit: receiving gong bubbler with keck clip tomorrow or following, i'll update soon with a mini-review then work on getting better pics, video by weeks end showing full setup and usage.

Thanks Waffles, looking forward to the review. I've put my name on the list to get one as soon as the new heaters are ready. Wes looks like he has done his homework. The shape and materials are nice, I love the variable heat and it looks like you could easily rig up a whip for handsfree. I'm always an early adopter...sometimes you get burned, but sometimes you get something really special. It's worth the gamble to me.

hello all,

For those that have current orders - I really want to apologize for the time it has taken to get to you, I had not expected to do this mid-order design change, but sometimes things happen and I feel as though it is one worth waiting for and you guys have been so patient, I really appreciate you guys/gals giving me the time and consideration to give you something that lives up to your (and my standards). I really have faith in the new advancements and small revisions in the OCD heating element. Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather along the entire eastern United States it has taken a lot longer than anticipated to receive the updated heaters for testing and to retrofit. As soon as they come in and are fully tested and prepared your unit will be sent out immediately and I'll most definitely add some goodies for being patient and waiting. But again if anyone has any problems with waiting or just doesn't want to, let me know.

...as always... have a good one..

Read two post up. It's explained that there was a change in the heating element and the shipment is delaying the construction of more OCD units. I'm sure once everyone receives it then we will see many reviews.

Hey all,

I'm new to the boards and fairly new to vaporizing as well.

I have an old city diffuser on order and according the post office tracking, it's scheduled to be delivered today. :D WooHoo! I'm pretty excited.

Unfortunately, I've got some things that I need to do afer work tonight, so I won't be able to test it to it's fullest until tomorrow.

Normally, I just stay in lurk mode and just absorb the information that you all share. Since this site has been able to get me off of combustion (40+ years), so that I've been vaping for about 2-3 months now. In those 3 months I have tried the Extreme Q, the PD and the MFLB. As a way to give back to this community, I'll try to post a review by this weekend.

I think that some other OCD vapes went out with mine, so there might be a few reviews coming up.

Cheers,

Tom

So, my OCD unit arrived yesterday, though I finally got my hands on it today and I've decided to take some fast unboxing pics and share with you all just so there's more photos of Wes' awesome work here in this thread:

( Note the return address street number :D )

I'll have to get some time in before I post a detailed review. However, that being said, I'd like to actually quickly review Wes' actual service thus far because I think it's worth saying that he's really been totally awesome every step of the way.

Starting a new business is a tricky thing and speaking as someone who has worked for small startups, it can be pretty easy to misjudge things like initial demand and the time it takes to reach certain milestones. I don't think the delay on receiving my unit was at all terrible and Wes has been very communicative to all of us about our delivery status. If anything, as you can clearly see -- I got a rather exceptionally nice piece that I had actually requested the moment I saw its picture and he didn't even charge me extra for it. He had mentioned that these specially worked pieces would normally be costing a fair bit extra, but he was gracious enough to let me have it I suppose due to the initial delay. That's totally quality service and I'm thrilled to own this unit already.

So far as actually ordering the unit, he's been very pleasant and prompt to reply to email. Heck, he's even been rather detailed and verbose to important issues and questions, which is always a good sign. The fact that he's even offered all of us early adopters a clear upgrade path to the new heating units once everything is settled is also another indicator that Wes actually cares about his work. Overall, it really is worth noting that this guy is legit and you can trust him with your moneydollars if you're worried about the current lack of website or further reviews.

I'll try to have an actual in-use review, possibly an in-use video when I can get in some quality time with this new vape. I'll also have to make an icon for it for my sig. :D
