Freeman, I too have the mini whip. You do have to hold it up to the heater, it will not stay on it's own. That said, I used my miniwhip for all of maybe 2 or 3 bowls then went back to my regular wand. It just wasn't hitting good at all for my tastes. Maybe it's getting too much airflow? I have 7th floor working on a shorter (custom made) ssv heater cover that will fit my Buddha. Once I receive that item it should mate up with the mini just fine.

As for size... the mini seems to hold about 1/2 as much herb as the standard whip.

you think it would fit and work?

anyone have any tips on how they pack? I grind and usually pack it somewhat tight just by pushing the ball end of the tool they give down on the herb in the bowl. I pack it half way at least. how much does it matter how much you pack? i just assume the more packed the better because it is taller and therefore closer to the heating element.

I try never to pack mine past the 1/2 way mark. I find if I pack too much herb by the time I get to the end of it its like a fine albeit thick powder that's difficult to pull hits.

The denser the herb is packed the thicker the cloud will be imo. But also... usually only the very top of that bowl will vape so you have to stir more.

When you don't pack it at all you have much greater airflow and it all vapes the whole bowl with minimal stirring but I feel the hits suffer slightly, not as thick. Again... imo

:)

Hey, I've tried to read through as much of this as possible and search for my answer, but I can't find it. Is there going to be a negative factor if I use a longer tube on my DBV. I ordered a 10ft section, and was thinking about cutting it down to 5 and 5 or 6 and 4, mainly because I commonly use mine in a group setting and its a kinda pain in the ass to turn the DBV and bring people into position. I'm curious if the difference in length will have an effect on condensation or air to vapor ration...any help?

heres an idea, how about putting a 19 to 14mm reducing adapter into the heating cover and using a 14mm wand? you could pack a lot less in and get a much more rewarding hit im sure, thanks to the more restricted airflow increasing the vapor:air ratio

for reference im on about one of these things to be placed in the cover:
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6590/il430xn134395351.jpg

you could then sue one of these as a wand:
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/9129/il430xn130122881.jpg
all you would have to do is put a screen in at the narrowing and attach your tubing
where can i fount that 19to14mm adapter and mini 14mm wand?
gonna dig this one up from ages back because i reckon its a good contender, especially if the mini whip isnt working out. this all came from this guys etsy shop. i dont have a dbv or i wouldve tried it out myself

I just got a call from 7th floor! Hey guys, I thought their customer service was supposed to suck? LoLs

I've had nothing but awesome service from them so far. So the guy I've been emailing back and forth just called me and said they were going to send out my custom shortened SSV cover today. Get this... they didn't charge me anything extra for the work either. I had already paid them the $$ for the cover, they just shortened it for me!!!! They also sent me an email with a pic of a wand they had there they thought I'd like ... it's got a smaller bowl then the standard SSV wand.

I'll get pics and a review up once I receive the parts.

*Note.... this mini bowl won't get much use now ... I also just ordered a MFLB woooot !!!!!:D:D

Hey all, Ive been lurkin here for a couple months now. I bought the DBV after I vaiped on one for the first time at a Denver dispensary two months ago. I get very good hits off the DBV, but still miss that smokin high I always had from 30 years of smokin. The process of getting stoned on vaip seems very lengthy, but I do not want to combust anymore. Is this the norm ?

daddy g,
When I ordered my DBV I thought no way would I need another vaporizer.
I ordered the MFLB on Tuesday.

Combustion free since '09
Hi Major and welcome to FC!

Some folks take right to the vape, others take time....Some still combust too.

Unless you push into the higher temps you don't get some of the higher range stuff....plus no carbon monoxide, etc. I say that vape high I'm more likely to be doing a project than on the couch. A heady high. If I want couch lock I can push temps or....some combust ;)

I think the MFLB will help with the 'lengthy process' issue plus I think it's nice to have some different styles of vapes to play with. The DB is a great choice as well, I have it's cousin SSV for big fun.

I'd say give it a bit of time, I know vaping is much less taxing on the lungs so it's worth a try! Good luck!

Yeah, crank up the temperature. If you're still not getting that 'smokin high' then get an old pipe, grab some dried-out lawn clippings and smoke that.

Ok, so I tried a new approach, maybe I just got comfortable and stopped experimenting. I put in less meds, ground it up more fine and went to higher temps. I also have been holding DB at a angle when I hit it. My wake n bake is pretty good right now. I will keep trying to change it up and find what works. I really look forward to the MFB to complement DB. ( I can sneak in more hits in a day):ko:

I quit smoking cigs 1 1/2 years ago and I was trying to quit combustion altogether. I have only been com busting about once a week and it tastes more horror able each time. I am almost ready to give away my combustion collection.:) Thanks Buddah!

That's awesome, major. I'm fairly new to vaporizing as well. The DBV was my choice as well. You get used to controlling the DBV, how much you should pack, how high to turn up the temp, when to stir, all of it. And once you get used to it, its like second nature.

This morning I woke up, reached over and turned my alarm clock off and turned my vape on. I usually break up my green the night before and leave it inside my grinder, so I unscrewed the grinder, sucked up enough for a pack(its easier to suck through the mouth piece and pull weed into then it is to pack it in) put it in and got the wake and bake going. Its a good start to the day.

So to update everyone, I received my custom shortened SSV heater cover that fits my Buddha yesterday. Good thing I had them shorten it or they were right, it would have been way too high, above the Buddha's hole. As it sits, I've got it pushed all the way down, as far as it will go and it's sitting on the actual heater I think. The heater cover now lines up with the top of the Buddha's hole. This making any sense heheh?

Since I only have a standard Buddha wand and a miniwhip, I decided to try out the standard wand 1st as it was already hooked to my tubing. Wooooooooooooooooow these SSV heater covers work so much better. I really think the smaller outlet hole for the air is key! Course I have to hold the wand to the heater cover but that's the point with the SSV right? Love this new cover, I'm a convert for sure!!! Bring on the SSV lol.

So... for those of you inclined, I think we could shorten the ssv cover ourselves and achieve the same results. Isn't it easy to score a line in the glass then it breaks clean? Or so I've heard...

Pictures tomorrow as I didn't have time last night, was messing with my new (non working) MFLb :(

I'm pretty sure it's difficult to score a clean line around a glass item, at least when it comes to breaking glass bottles to make cups out of. I think a smaller item like a heater cover would be more difficult to score and break cleanly, as any small crack or chip would possibly result in breakage when you push it onto the heater of the DBV. Could be worth trying though! Got any spare SSV covers?

Here is just one method for cutting glass bottles, the process should apply for the SSV cover: http://www.wikihow.com/Cut-a-Glass-Bottle

As promised, pics of my Buddha/SSV conversion :D

I gotta say, I love it even more now, as if that could be possible.

7th Floor totally came through on this order!

1st of all 7th Floor noticed from my order request that the SSV heater cover I was going to purchase was for a Buddha and not an SSV. They promptly emailed me to inquire if I had ordered the part in error.

I started a convo with Richard @ 7th Floor and told him what I was up to. We threw around some ideas and ended up with a shortened SSV heater cover to fit the Buddha's hole.

They even grabbed the two colors I asked for and it's beautiful.

Next is a pretty little SSV wand Richard had picked out for me. It's a tad smaller then the standard SSV but just as thick :)

These guys just rock!!! PLUS ONE FOR 7TH FLOOR !!!!

Double Awesome, first for you getting this awesome SSV/DBV Hybrid and for once again to 7th floor for the great customer service. Seems like more and more they are doing a better a job than at one time.

I've got a question about the height of the ceramic element inside the heater cover. I took my heater cover off a few weeks back and didn't make a note of the original height it sat at. I looked at a few photographs of new ones and the heater seems to be sitting much higher on them.

I tried to work the heater cover back onto it and got it further down. But after that, I made the mistake of turning all the way up to get it going again and the heating cover shattered. I've learnt my lesson there, so it's not likely to happen again, but it's made me very cautious of forcing it.

k1z80m.jpg

I've since ordered a new one. It's on firmly at the moment, but from a front on position the top of the element is only somewhat visible. Am I vaping at a lower temperature than I should be because of this?

dbjya1.jpg

There's also a small amount of the silver casing visible and a few millimetres between the top of that screw and the bottom of the cover.

My Buddha cover sat about where yours is, worked fine. It too had the gap at the bottom ... but it's so tight I don't think any air gets through there.

Hello! I'm back. My 'puter was down for a week and a half, motherboard went but I didn't figure that out till I tried a new vid card and processer. Got it turned on Saturday but had too much partying to do over the weekend and had to rest all week in between working. (43 years old, I don't recover like i used to...)

Anyway, daddygj your new HC looks awesome, I'll have to put in an order for one. I'm having no troubles with my set up, but it makes sense that being closer to the element is more efficient, it must work great with the miniwhip!
<edit> I see you didn't like the mini, I found that I had to turn up the heat a hair. Does it work better with your new HC?

greenriver, my heating element is less than 1/4" from the top of my HC and I've had no problems, but I never turn it all the way up for more than a minute, just till it turns red.

One last thing, just as I survived Memorial Day weekend, Da Buddha did too. I carried that thing around in a backpack, tossing it into pick-up trucks and such and it still works like a charm. I looked at the MFLB , but I think I'm happy with the Vapor Genie and I have a pretty nice power inverter that'll power Da Buddha in a vehicle.
VAPE ON!

Didn't get any replies about my longer whip....so figured I'd give an update for anyone curious. I cut the 10ft section of tubing into a 6ft and 4ft, and I've had no problems at all. The 6ft tube works fine, no problems, and it is so much more convenient for group vape sessions, or even for lying in bed. If anyone was curious about it, go ahead and enjoy.

I just gotta say I put the miniwhip on my hose last night and gosh dang! I swear this ssv cover hits so much harder, denser, cooler. Also I've noticed there is a significant decrease in "need to control inhale speed" as compared to the Buddha cover. Maybe that's just me but it took me a while to learn the buddha's inhale speed to get the proper hits etc. I believe the ssv cover allows for more error when it comes to inhale speed. I can hit it fast and slow on the same heat dial setting and get great hits either way. Just love this new cover.

Still deciding if I want to cut the Buddha frame to allow for a clearer view of the cover or leave as is.

How hard would it be to cut the aluminum sides of that Buddha, anyone know? What would you use?

I'd still leave it as is, you're gonna lose the anodize in the cut and it could make it uglier, tough to get paint to match your anodize. E'd 7th floor about one of them custom hc's today, I'll let u know what happens!

Daddygreenjeans, I tip my hat to you. That Buddha looks fucking awesome. I wonder if 7th floor would do the same for me...

...which brings me to my reason for posting. A few pages back I posted about my defective DBV. I won't go into the whole story here but basically it stopped working suddenly, full stop, about a week after I first received it. I sent an email to 7th floor, Richard told me to send it back without used glass parts. I put it in the U.S. post on April 27th. Shipped it sans heater cover and whip, obviously, and I included USPS postage for return shipping. Then I waited. Richard had said in his email that I would receive notification when my unit reached 7th floor. After over a week with no word, I got worried and called 7th floor. I spoke to Richard on the phone; he was kind enough to personally go to the warehouse to check for my package. He called me back later to let me know it had indeed arrived safely. According to him, the reason I did not receive an email was because their computers had been "down". I felt slightly better after this but still missed my DBV, although I got a MFLB to keep me company in the meantime.

Another two weeks passed and I had not received my DBV or heard anything from 7th floor, so I sent a polite email on May 18th asking for an update. I promptly got an email saying I had been sent a shipment from 7th floor-- via UPS for some reason, but at that point no shits were given by me. My DBV arrived the following Monday, May 24th, almost a month after I sent it.

I received the same unit I sent. I know this because I marked the label on the base with small blue spots. 7th floor sent a new heater cover with it, which was very awesome of them. And the unit works perfectly now.

Just wanted to share my experience. The whole thing took longer than I had hoped, but gotta love that warranty, right? They may be a little slippery over there, but I figure they are all puffing away at silver surfers and da Buddhas all day so can't be too hard on them. God, I wish I had that job.
