I hate waiting for shipping. Hopefully you get your stuff soon.

Now that I have finally gotten my NCR18650A's I've been doing all sorts of testing on them. After some initial issues with the Solo because of polarity and the lack of a standard for the wiring direction of RCY plugs I built a pack and started testing it.

I am very impressed by the capacity and quality of these cells. I just finished a session with the new battery pack, and the Solo's battery indicator is still showing 7 when I turn it on. My old pack would have been taken down to 5 by just one session. Heat up time seems to be slightly better as well but I've yet to time it.

I also put on of the new cells into my Inhalater and there is certainly a tangible decrease in heat time and increase in battery life. Not as much as the Solo, but still very noticeable. Inhalater uses 2800mah cells in their vaporizer so it is not as much of an increase in capacity over the old cell.

Here's some ugly prototypes for those of you who like the gut-shots. Don't worry, the "production" packs are going to be much prettier.

Keep up the good work. I've been testing some Xtar 3100mah cells that use the NCR18650B cells too but have separate protection on each cell and so far results have been good. I'm even thinking I might even take a dremel to my solo so I can just slide the cells in and out with a metal clip but we'll see. Oh and I was reading on the Tesla roadster website that they are using the NCR18650C 4000mah cells in the 2013 model so future upgrades are looking plump. :D

I'm totally down for buying one of these as well! My solo is still going strong (got it w/in the first week it came out for free from the manufacturers) and I haven't had any problems. That being said I know it is only a matter of time before the battery kicks the bucket and I'm liking what I see here. Any rough estimate on pricing or when you might have some ready for purchase by any chance?

Please for future reference read or search the thread before asking the same questions that have been asks so many times before. But to answer your question the XP will be out by christmas sometime, you can call any online dealer that sells them and request to be put on the list for the new model. They will inform you when that happens, and the pricing for the new XP model will be the same as the current model.

Check the classifieds here I just saw one go up for sale :)

No offense my man but I'm not quite sure what you're talking about lol. My question was directed towards "CentiZen" and when his custom battery packs would be ready to go.

I've got a unit "Ready" for an external beta tester to give it a go; and depending on how that goes; I should have them ready within the next month or so. The biggest issue is the lead time with shipping; but hopefully I will not have to cope with my current supplier much longer.

    Thanks for the interest!

    • The rule is: Do not ask about being a beta tester. Infraction given.

Question for ya..... im looking to order a solo after xmas. Should i order a new battery pack now or would it be more adviseable to wait for the battery to go "die?" Then order a new pack? Im sure its just preference sincei could keep either around as a backup but would it "increase" performance right off the bat? Thx so much!

I would wait until aftermarket battery packs are available. Arizer sells their replacements for $50.. which is a lot IMO, especially considering the performance of them, which could be much better. I know the wait is hard, but I have faith in CentiZen's progress and the final outcome of these packs. Plus, supporting a fellow FC member is what it's all about to me.

this is all very cool, seems like this is a huge upgrade and great option for people once their batteries die.

    Hey there king,

I've run into trouble. Turns out none of the major couriers want to carry battery packs that aren't made by a certified company. UPS has flat out refused to talk to me about this, but FedEx may still work out.

Right now I need to meet with a person from FedEx who will review my specific case and ensure that I meet their guidelines. These guidelines aren't so much in place to stop someone like me from assembling a pack out of QC certified cells from Panasonic, but to stop people from making their own actual batteries which could risk exploding in air travel.

I meet next week so hopefully that will go well and I can start sending them
