I have a warranty issue with my Solo - an M103 model. It has had the issue since I bought it in August. It runs way to hot (which might be a feature for some of you.) I never use it above 2 which is more like 6 or 7 on the other Solos I've tried. I've waited until now to send it in as I wanted to be sure the other issues they've been having were worked out in case they send a replacement.

I have been asked by Kevin @ Arizer to pay $30 up front for the postage for Arizer to return my Solo or a replacement to me after they work on mine. It seems a bit much to have to pay for the shipping both ways for a unit that has never worked properly and I don't recall people posting about this fee. Maybe I just missed it. I don't know what the shipping to Canada will cost but this is looking like a $50+ warranty repair which pisses me off. Opinions?

Thanks!
I had similar issues with over heating, when I first got the unit it would over heat to the point it caused the battery to drain in one use! Melted the side of the brace that holds the bowl up. Didnt happen all the time twice since I owned it. I think thats the reason I got it for so cheap! Because of this, I did not have an issue opening it up. I would not recommend it for you because of the warranty issue. But in my unit I found that some herb residue was shorting out the (thermocouple) thats what I call the part that senses the heat of the bowl. Where it connected to the board it packed with vaped herb. Once cleaned I havent had the problem since!

Tintest,

Thanks for your reply and the pics! I've been inside my unit and there's nothing obvious amiss. My unit ran hot from the first stem. If I use it at two I get them same battery life as everyone else.

Can someone who has sent a unit in for warranty work respond to my question about Arizer wanting $30 to mail it back to me. Most businesses I am familiar with doing warranty work make you pay your own shipping to get the unit to them and they cover the shipping back to their customer.

Thanks!!!

Not many people work at arizer. Kevin basically deals with 90% of the US warranty issues. Ive had some experiences with him that just left a bad taste. However, he did finally manage to get my unit replaced, after I emailed him from a different email address and left off my last name from my signature.

Questions for fellow Soloist with M102. what # do you vape with? I usually don't see vapor in the tube the tube until i set to 4. I still get vapor at 2, but it's thin blue vapor when i exhale to a lamp.

I usually use setting 5. The various compounds boiled off as vapour have different visibility properties; some of the vapours are invisible, some barerly visible, some cloudy. At setting 2 or 3 not much is visible, but you get quite a bit of the effect. Also the taste and smell compounds come off at low temperatures, which is why the first hits are the tastiest.. At 4 or 5 I get the cloudy compound(s) which also seem to be associated with a "body stone". Material that has been vaped at 5 can be vaped again at 7, again not much is visible but there is definitely an effect, of a sleep inducing kind.

I have tried other settings as my default, but somehow I keep drifting back to 5. It just seems right. Of course, it is plain from the comments in this thread that there is some variation between units, so my 5 might be someone else's 4 or 6.

Could anyone compile and post an up-to-date list of all the third party accessories that will work with the arizer solo?

Thanks :)

I did this http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj584/MrNormlAZ/IMG_0550-1.jpg which let me do this http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj584/MrNormlAZ/solo-glass.jpg fitting into the downstem of a Flawless bubbler nicely.

Where did you get that or where can I get it? I figure I only need a few inches MAX of that tubing. What size is that so I can try to track it down (and find a good price)?

I am assuming not just any kind of material will do...

Well, you can see how much I used! I got it at a local shop in purchasing 2 elbow joints to connect a Q to some glass. Not sure what the outside diameter of the Solo stem is, but it fits there. I would guess about any hardware store would have something suitable. That same exact stem fits in perfectly to a glycerin cooler I got for about 25 bux which really works nice with the Solo as between sessions I can charge the Solo and freeze the cooler. There is syncronicity there.

Thanks VapeNStone and Spezialemic for your replies. I have replied to Kevin at Arizer asking him to waive the $30 return shipping fee and will let folks know how this resolves.

It's all about persistence with them. Argue that you shouldn't have to pay anything for a warranty replacement and don't give in. Eventually, they'll cave.

I went to the local smoke shop and got some 1/2" screens for my Solo, but just haven't been able to get them to fit. Maybe I'm an idiot (possible) and maybe they gave me the wrong size (possible). But rather messing about with something iffy, I'd really just like to buy something online that other people have had success with.

Do people have experience with any of these?

Thanks!

Go with the Underdog kit. Those screens (I believe they're 5/8") make for a perfect slightly domed screen in the Solo stem - no trimming required. They're all I use now.

Guys, is the Solo gentler to the throat than the Launch Box? I am planning on selling the box and getting me a solo...

Generally the answer is yes. The Launch Box is coolest if you use the optional whip you can order from them. When using the whip I would say they are pretty similar as far as the heat/gentleness goes. Most people don't have one of those. With the Solo you can set your temp which allows you to take cooler hits if you want and you also have the greater distance between the heat and your mouth. With the Launch Box you are very close to the heater when you inhale.

Unfortunately I can not use my LB much anymore as it was causing me some problems because of the harshness/caughing.

I have no such issues with the Solo.

I use a wisp of cotton wool in the bowl, instead of a wire mesh filter. This completely stops tiny bits of hot herb dust making it into my throat. I found that the wire screens do let fine dust through, though it is mostly too fine to see, it does make the taste a bit hotter and harsher. Cotton wool is pretty close to tasteless in a vape. When the filter becomes clogged with dust and residue, just replace it - I am still on my first cotton wool ball after several weeks.

Big up on ya for this! I've used a tiny wisp of cotton from a cotton ball (need to find organic) for about a dozen stems and it's awesome! I swear i'm getting more vapour production and it definitely is easier and less harsh on the lungs. I think i'm done with SS screens in my solo stems for now. thanks Errol!

I would venture to say that if you wear baggy jeans with big loose pockets, it might do ok. It is a bit bulky for tight jeans pocket, IMO...

Itll fit as long as youre not wearing girls pants. i wear slim straight and it fits in my pockets.

You're not nuts, bOObs. I'll never sell mine, either. I just can't.

Have tried custom stems (glass, wood, whip...) and the throat is easily irritated. I do about a gram per day now (up from half a gram) and maybe that's the reason. I hope by using the solo, as it medicates faster, my throat won't be subjected to hot vapor for so long. Maybe the faster hits help, what you think?

@bOObs, which is your daily driver? Solo or HI? Which is harsher? I guess HI but... And I love my box very much myself but the economy is not an economy any more and the box will have to go until everything gets better... :(

boobs...can you compare the solo to the Hi for me? mostly with respect to airflow and cloud/hit satisfaction. I already ordered a HI and the Solo has been on my radar for a while now. I gather that the solo hits more like a PD, but I don't see an old school log vape in your sig.
