I'm confused. I love my GR8TR but I don't know what the puck is. The top section of my grinder has a compartment to store herb so I can store one kind of herb there and in the section where ground herb goes another kind of herb.

@little maggie The puck is a separate storage container but you can use it with the GR8TR system I think (their website states the puck works with all 2.2" Kannastor grinders). I only use my puck when I go out somewhere & need more than a couple of air stems worth of ground bud & it is easy to carry round.

I'm still waiting for my order but apparently the bottom of the storage puck is deeper than the kief compartment of the grinder. So I ordered the puck to connect it to the grinder for more kief.

Has anyone tried using a Nutribullet to grind herb?
I only do that when I want a superfood nutritional cannabis drink ;)

I wish I could bring myself to buy a grinder. When I smoked I was anti grinders & even when I switched to vaping I still used scissors for a few months.
Now I'm in my 3rd yr of being smoke free & I'm still using an old grinder someone gave me yrs ago, plus a couple of gross plastic S&B ones that came as accessories for when I want to go finer. I don't like plastic & I don't know what kind of metal my other one is but for some reason the thought of having to buy a grinder is a bit annoying, & they're not fucking cheap either.
I find it kind of sad mashing all that goodness in a grinder but it's a requirement for vaping so I need to buy a new one.
I'm going to start looking for a reasonably priced one that holds a fair bit with no screen. I can pick it myself but if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

@Poostuff Sounds like you want a 3-piece Santa Cruz Shredder. They come in small (53 mm) and large (70 mm).

Small can easily grind at least 1 g at a time; maybe even 1.5 g. Large can probably handle about 1.5-2.5 g comfortably.

Personally, I have to manufacture reasons to use my large SCS (4-piece). If I was in the market for a 3-piece, I would go with small. I suspect large is too big for most people.

My medium scs is perfect! And it's like grinding air. Ypu can flip it upside down for a finer grind. I use the 3 piece. And they are same day delivery on amazon prime!

I love good grinders and want to tell you about Compton Grinders. For those of you who haven't had the good fortune to use one, you're in for a treat. Compton Grinders are not only innovative; they are incredibly well built…they are built like a tank. The medium grinder has the ability to be attached to the Compton Vault which is designed to store and lock your ground up material. Compton Grinders have an area where they deliberately did not leave teeth to enable easy loading. The 4 piece model comes with a tool that makes removing or changing the screen a breeze. The section below the screen has curved edges which many grinders do not have. It makes it much easier to remove the material that gets to the very bottom. I really like the way Compton put notches on the top and bottom of their grinders in order to give you a better grip when grinding. When you turn the Compton Grinder it has a great feel almost like it has ball bearings. I’ve used every top end grinder you can think of. I have used The Space Case, Santa Cruz Shredder, Phoenician, Mendo Mulcher, Mix-N-Ball, to name a few. The Space Case is a good grinder, but the Compton Grinder has never left BB size chunks that weren’t ground, like the 4 piece Space Case does. In addition to that the Compton Grinder grinds your material to a more uniform consistency. Their customer service is OUTSTANDING, and their products are built to last a lifetime; best of all they are built right here in the U.S.A. Ever since I got a Compton grinder my Space case has been gathering dust. Here is a link to their website: https://comptongrinders.com/ Do yourself a favor, get a Compton Grinder; I know you're going to love it!

Odd, since it came from scs. Maybe it's because it's a 3 piece?

If you bought it from Amazon, you didn't buy it from SCS. Many or most of the vendors on Amazon refer to small SCS as medium.

Having read this entire thread, I'm inclined to think SCS may have called their 53 mm grinder medium when the company was new (less than five years ago), then changed it to small fairly early on.

If you look at the Santa Cruz Shredder website, you won't see the word "medium."

Regardless, you got a very good grinder.

I have been using an SLX 206 lately just for the reduced stickiness of my plant to the grinder (the teeth and grinding area is teflon coated or similar). I ordered online at smoke shop guys (they have a somewhat small list of distributers).

Thanks guys, I'd like to give a Shredder a try, the 3pc small looks about the same size as what I'm using now & it's not a bad price.
That's probably what I'll get.
To me it's like buying a wrench, I want one that lasts & I need it but I'm not going to get excited about it.
One more thing, I understand the anodizing is there to protect the teeth but does it wear after a while?

Anodizing is an actual chemical change to the outer surface of the metal. It does not revert with time. However, if the outer layer of metal on the teeth were eroded away, you would see plain metal underneath. How deep the anodization goes is dependent on process, but I'd be very surprised if the anodization on the teeth of a shredder wore out even in a lifetime of use.

I just purchased a SC 2 piece & it does the job well but I have had my eye on a Compton Medium 4 piece or stepping it up to a GR8TR. Just not sure if the Compton will grind fine enough for my tastes?

No, but I find an electric coffee grinder makes a very consistent, superfine grind, and helps produce insane clouds with convection vapes.

My $10 coffee grinder from Kmart was a beast of a thing. Maybe I should break that out again as I like a fine grind.
