I don't think it measures the drag. @scott_dunlap might have more (different?) information.
ya thats what im thinking too because on page5 scott said:
It also adjusts the temp of the oven based on how much you are drawing on each draw, since the act of drawing also cools the materials.
if it adjusts the oven based on how much you draw... i'm just wondering how does it "know" or "measure" how much you are drawing? hehe hopefully that make sense

I'm not an engineer but I suppose it could be adjusting based on how much the oven cools based upon air flow, given a sufficiently sensitive thermometer or thermocoupler. As the temperature dips the oven activates to counter the cooling.

Apologies not necessary, memory lapse due to enthusiastic testing is one of my many flaws.

My standard load originated with my MFLB. That's how much I use in it and when I started trying other devices I wanted a direct comparison. Despite what you read about the need for fully packed loads or spacers, I've found it works in almost everything I've tried. The Ascent is the only exception that I can recall, since I had to use a spacer. The Indica works without the spacer but is much improved with one. Cloud production is often improved with full loads, packing, or spacers. If you are after thick clouds then my load probably isn't the best. As you'd expect however, those techniques usually result in faster stash consumption.

Hi, Pak; I'm an ocassional visitor here. This forum is singly responsible for my getting a Pax 1, ordering the Pax2, and nearly everything I learned about them! Kudos to you and all those who take the pains and effort to educate and share your discoveries and insights!

I have 1) something to share, and 2) something to ask:

I discovered this on the FC Pax 1 Forum a very long time ago. It was worth the small effort to construct, made from bamboo BBQ skewers. Works great!

OK, anyway, my QUESTION:

I'm getting that the Pax 2 doesn't need to be firmly packed, but I'm just kind of confused as to how loose herb rattling around in there will vape to temp. I've been used to making very fine grain herb to pack into the Pax 1, so, what grade grind is the MOST I should use? Worried about those bigger scallop holes in the Pax 2 letting ABV (or fresh herb!) seeping under the cover.

So, any comments that I can hear on packing, grind, and use/experience would be most helpful!

Thanks!

In all likelihood, heat is increased based on the drop in temperature caused by a draw according to some algorithm (i.e., for X amount of decrease in oven temperature, increase oven temperature by Y factor). It's not complicated or magical technology. It's just a more responsive thermostat. Seems like an effective use of straightforward technology.

The questions remains whether or not there's an actual lip sensing technology. The video in which a Pax 2 is taken apart couldn't identify a sensor near where the mouth makes contact.

I know we are waiting for answers, but I have been thinking about that lip sensor, if it's in the power button, which is pressure sensitive, maybe the button can detect light pressure (of the lip) placed on top or on the raised mouthpiece? Both mp have that dimple in the center that make contact with the power button inside if pressed. Just my theory as I studied that open pax vid and didn't see much that could be a sensor either.

I also think that the oven responds to changes in temp rather than draw speed, but draw speed controls temp changes... if that makes sense...

Im still waiting for an update as to why 3rd party vendors have already filled customer orders prior to the source. Dont want this one lost in a sea of other posts.

The power button is definitely touch sensitive. I think that would be a better word for it because it reacts when touching it with my finger or lips. The mouthpiece is made of the same touch sensitive material's the power button is

Electrical conduction through the aluminum body, I'd wager.

I'm not thinking the P2 sensed how much or how hard you're pulling. It senses the electrical current in the lip, assumes someone's pulling, and starts up the oven again.

My guess / opinion only.

Can't wait to hear the reviews as FC people get their P2's. No tracking for me yet, pre-ordered on 3/24.
Sent Ojan a pm and waiting (impatiently) for a response. Thanks for all the info so far, never thought I would return to Paxland. Got fed up with the wait time for my other pre-order........

edit: Just found out my p2 will ship tonight with tracking. The chat function @Ploom works great!

I was told on chat to sit tight and I'd receive an email... no specific info about my order was available. Booo..

My initial reaction after a few sessions is that it's working like a pax should. Flawless. However if you have the pax 1...I don't really see the need to rush out and upgrade

Sorry for the radio silence, everyone. Hectic day as you may imagine. All PAX 2 pre-orders have been shipping out as of this morning. The tracking details, though, aren't going to show up until at/after 5pm PST via email even though orders are leaving the warehouse much earlier.

I've only used a medium grind and it's worked well for me. I've been meaning to experiment with that but now that the P2 has been released, I'm sure we'll get lots of reports before I get around to it.

Herb without packing or spacers works in all sorts of conduction devices that I've tried. It's a standard test I perform. As I said, that doesn't mean packing won't improve the experience for lots of people. One thing to remember is that if your material is rich in trichomes, the load will fuse into the (in)famous puck and won't be quite as loose as you might imagine. Incidentally, I don't shake it to mix up the load either. Again, that doesn't mean shaking won't improve things.

Electrical conduction through the aluminum body, I'd wager.

I still see questions about the lip sensor, it CAPACITIVE. Like your touch screen phones. Sensor is somewhere on the aluminum shell close to the mouth piece. correct me if I'm wrong.

I already posted that I experimented with this and no matter where I touched the shell, it didn't trigger the sensor. The silicone top isn't conductive, so the sensor is strong enough to detect your body current through the layer of silicone. The capacitive buttons on my monitor are strong enough to detect my finger over 3 cm away, therefore this is entirely feasible. The Pax 2 requires an actual touch, however.

willieR, you lose. MolecularConcept, you're corrected.

I still would like to know why people picked up theirs last night locally and others received theirs already from 3rd party vendors. Pax direct should be the fastest. Sorry im disappointed.

Just bought my P2 today in my local shop; so far so good! Too early to really comment, except that the oven lid is way better, popping it out is easier. The charger needs to be on a flat surface, didn't work too well in a moving car. Would need to velcro the base flat somewhere...

Thanks to Pakalolo for having such patience with all of us!!

"You're one of the first – and we couldn’t be more excited.

Inventory began shipping this morning and we’ve been working diligently to get all pre-orders out. Unprecedented order volume means that some customers may not receive their tracking information until tomorrow Friday April 3rd, after 5pm PST.

So, THANK YOU! You've officially taken over the assembly line.

We're just as thrilled as you are to get PAX 2 in your hands and appreciate your patience.

We'd love to hear from you - give us a shout on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

I was just going to post this. Probably going to get a week after everyone else who went to a 3rd party vendor.

Its sad that my local head shop has them as of last night. Yet im still waiting for a tracking number direct from pax. I must say im very disappointed getting it later being ordered directly from the "source".

Is your head shop charging a lot more? The ones near me really hike the price up. They are selling the original Pax for $260

No they are selling for same price as pax website. Obviously no shipping but add tax. Just burns me that I ordered from them directly thinking that would be the quickest way. Lesson learned.

Interesting review. While he didn't verbally, in words, give an overall negative review, his phrasing as well as his facial expressions gave much more of a negative impression, eh? At least that's the way I read it.

It was kinda like........."Yeah, it's ok..............I guess."

OTOH, big kudos to PAX for having an active rep here. Good show.....

Hey all,

I wanted to share what @scott_dunlap posted on Reddit about shipping emails:

Here's the scoop - we basically overloaded the system that sends the tracking information emails. Devices have shipped today, but some of you may not get the email with the tracking info until tomorrow.

I could go on about third party vendors who said x, IT systems that worked on Monday, blah, blah, blah. WTF. If it makes you feel any better, everyone here at PAX Labs is seriously losing their shit right now. Not what we wanted our customers to have on the big day.

No orders lost - we can see them going out, trucks leaving all day long. My apologies for the hassle, but they are coming.

Can confirm that we're losing our shit. You guys have always been, and will continue to be, priority numero uno. Keep asking questions and I'll updated as details become available.

No worries on my end, mate. I appreciate your concern but really only hope the best for you and your folks. I got your back and I know others here do, too.

Cheers and congrats on your launch!

Same here! Pax labs produces the Pax 2 so wouldn't it make sense that they would get it to us the fastest. How did Vapeworld get them sooner?
