To me I would never have gone on a vape search without good herb to put in it, it would have been a waste; To me good herb is tantamount to vaping, two pieces of the same puzzle that everyone hopefully should be able to put together.
Great post, and this part exactly reflects my feelings too. i think if you have great home grown and you don't vape, you are doing yourself a disservice and you disrespect the bud.

I figured I would ditto Hennessy's comments on a different but related topic I made in a separate thread about buying a Volcano (which I did and I know Hennessy is against). The "mercedes benz" of vapes, together w/my wooden "moped" or scooter. Maybe hummer and hybrid or e-mini? Okay, the V and LB analogy breaks when comparing to cars, but you get the picture, I use both for different purposes - I think a few others here own both too.

I wanted to report back on this buddy pairing. I kept an 1/8 of processed abv from the LB. As I have used the Volcano a bunch of times as they are so prevalent in LA, I have only used the post LB abv since getting the V.

Wow. The V is known to chew through meds but the LB processed abv gives 3 bags. I'm still on that first post-LB 1/8. More good vapes that go great together...

blasphemy! :o

I fucking hate volcanoes, I'll make that clear here and now to anyone who doesn't already know that about me. Stickman/LB all the way! I have no desire to inhale stale vapor from a bag.

we can still be friends though, :p

I'd like to try that stickman, it's the Verdamper vaporizer, right?

I'm curious as to why you hate Volcanoes, but that is another thread, I spose.

The point I was making was about what I was doing w/post LB abv. (i.e. how it relates to this thread).

Thanks so much for your very very helpful post kingcrimson.
My II doesn't always fire-up within a couple of clicks anymore and a wanted a backup for the day I can't get it started. The way the LB delivers the meds, the II might become the backup.
I've got my eye on the La Crosse BC-9009 chager that's on sale at Ambient Weather for $38.95 with 4 AAA batteries included. Can't say my bud looks as good as yours does. Nice trichs!

Hi Kingcrimson,

Wow! Awesome post! :o
Thank you!

Any chance I could get your permission send it to our webmaster to add it to our testimonials section? Especially since it is a direct and informed comparison to the Iolite? We get questions about that from time to time.

kc, what's your technique for hitting the LB next to someone without them knowing? I haven't yet landed on a technique that brings me back to the box. My best vapor experiences with the box are still confined to me sitting on my bed with the tube attached and giving it a lot of attention. I own three different portable models and have used two others and typically find that each portable has its own strengths and weaknesses that either make it right or wrong for each individual person and/or situation. A lot of you guys have found using the box to be much more universal than I have, and I would like to be where you guys are with it.

For instance, here's a quick rundown of a few portables:
VG - cheap and always delivers the thickest hits, but flame in the wind can be a problem.
VM3 - expensive, not very effective, but the only one with digital temp control if you want to vape at really high temps.
PhytoLyte - Gets almost too hot to use, but is the only one I know of that you can vape liquids with.
II - Easy to use, great for outdoor walks or when you want to sit and hit a little vape for 20 minutes, but can be too loud at times.
LB - Fast, small, silent and not much visible vapor...all things that can make this the most stealth vape ever if hitting it without tubing.

I think you guys would probably put a lot more pros with the box. What techniques are you guys using and how much use did it take to get it down?

I've only had my LB for a couple days and only used it a few times but I can say that I get more satisfying hits than I do with the VG. Everyone talking about how the LB doesn't give you visible vapor when you hit it but I have to disagree from my experiences so far. I can get about 3 or 4 nice sized hits from one trench. Granted the last hits (especially if I try and milk it) taste popcorny. Combine the ease of use, the fast heat up time, the stealthiness, and the fact that you can use it no matter how windy it is outside have definitely made this vape my goto travel vape.

I've only had limited experience with it so far but this is what I've noticed when comparing to my VG. I love both vapes but LB will be my travel vape for a while.

Tried all the various models of the V in amsterdam when I was there, and quickly wrote it off as one of those vapes that doesn't work for me. Add the bag models and I just hate the idea/methodology of hitting a bag. Personal preference really, but I don't think I get too toasted from V's. Its like 'Purps' or 'Kush', or a "jarome Baker" bong, or even roor. Its just a name imo a marketing ploy, and that doesnt justify the expense.

Anytime my friend. I was just so blown away by the box I want others to be able to experience great vaping on the fly and on the cheap. And as for my bud... good I'm glad yours doesn't look like that ;)- I hope to be a grower/breeder someday, even if only as a hobby, so hopefully that means I'm doing my thing right. :D

Of course you may! I'm honored. You can use my review from a page or two back too if you like as well, or my pics, or my vids. Anything I can do to help.

As for the battery cube, I love it to. It is 100% impossible for me to use 16 batteries in a day, so the cube is a perfect travel option for me. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get a jigsaw to cut a nice rectangular hole to slide my box into as well. Hit the first inch of the rectangle hole with a hole saw so you can get your fingers in and pinch out the box when its flush in there. Im so enamored with woodworking at the moment, unfinished wood gain just looks cool. The one pictured is actually #5 or 6 lol, took me a while to figure out how to space the holes without cracking others, and other things. When i get around to finishing this one or the next one with the box-hole I'm going to route the edges and really give it a nice style. Either way though, I'm no craftsman and would honestly prefer if you guys offered something alone these lines that I could buy knowing it was made well, lol. Pics of my further experimenting in the mill to come...

When hitting it in ultra stealth mode, I use the 'nub' mouthpeice so that the entire device fits in my palm. I hit at a speed just below what would cause the material to swirl in the chamber (just under too fast)k, which gives me a minimum for visible vapor.

The nub happens to be my preferred mouthpeice despite getting a little warm on occasion, and when not in stealth mode, I can get large cloudy hits from the LB, which is something I want. You just have to hit it in that fassion, which is a long slow sip, take a little bit of air every 5 seconds or so to allow the most efficient possible diffusion of vapor/oxygen in your lungs and to allow the screen to remain at max. temp.

All in all it took me the day I got my LB to figure it out, very short learning curve, people who I hand it to generally figure it out quickly too, with the exception of those smokers who would even have trouble finding the carb on a glass pipe. LB might not be for them, lol.

And as for the LB's weakness... its obviously a personal device. It can work in a group setting, but I prefer to give everyone their own trench and battery over passing the vape. I mean, its billed as a personal stealth portable, its no shocker that at home group use isn't exactly it's main strength. So I see it less as a weakness and more of a niche, but still I find your analysis to be right on, not all vapes are for all users for sure.

Yes! I love hitting it with my ac on full blast or outside in the wind and it doesnt matter a bit. If anything its more stealth because the little vapor that is produced and visible outside just gets blown away.

But yeah, as for this 'not much visible vapor' stuff, I specifically try to get vapor and do every hit, often clouds. Its only when Im trying to be discrete that Ill use a vaporless, or less vapor (to be more accurate) producing technique.
I also cough from the box, which again is something I personally enjoy. I've always held the belief that coughing gets you higher, and the coughs that the box rarely causes (only when I take the largest milkiest hits, probably just because its closest to combustion than the other styles of hitting it), are as different from combustion coughs as a vaping stone is different from a combustion stone, ie, their very shallow, short, and seldom more than a 'cough, cough' type of thing. Not ever have I been doubled over wheezing and gasping for air, but I certainly have my fair share of coughing fits, again, likely because I prefer it and specifically try to.

Last night I was on a trip to and from undisclosed locations, and as I happened to hit the box for my first time that leg of the trip, in the middle of repacking the trench after agitating it, a crusier that I now realized had been behind me for god knows how long, just walked on by me going at least 80. If I had been smoking with a flame, or perhaps even the bigger and more visible II, I surely would have caught his attention. Lucky, lucky me.

I have another idea as well, is anyone else bothered by the reflectivity of the plexi top? I feel like while using it in my car I get paranoid about shining a light into the wrong person or polices' eyes, attracting attention. Anyone think a matte plexi top over a glossy one would be better, or am I just partially insane?

thanks KC...how do you use the carb on the bottom of the unit? Do you cover it, leave it uncovered or pay it no attention? I was usually covering it until vapor built up in the box and then uncovering it to get a good hit.

I dont watch for vapor (though in the beggining when I liked using the nub and a 1ft clear whip I did), I don't bother with the 'carb', I don't even really see it ever, unless I hold it up to the light and look through the screen to see a small pinpoint of light, otherwsie I wouldn't even believe there was a carb, lol.

I sorta just feel the heat/vapor on my palate and base my hits off of that, in place of feeling like your getting a lung full of smoke, it merely just gets harder to inhale. When I can't inhale anymore, I've got a huge ammount of thc in my system. hold breifly, exhale, repeat. :D

Hi Kc,

Thank you -- I will insure that the post will be added to the website when it next gets updated.
Thanks also for the notes on how to use the Box with better stealth technique -- the clarity is great!

In thinking more about your battery holder, I am agreed that it would be a nice addition. There was a few posts awhile back about making a battery bandoleer which was also a fun idea. No promises as to when we would be able to have these items ready as new products but they are being considered as special fun items to add to the product line. It is especially exciting to see people doing so well with our little Box!

In regards to the cover, we had previously given serious consideration to making Boxes with a thin wooden cover as an alternative to glass and plexi. Wood of course would have no glare/reflectivity and would hide the loaded contents nicely. This is still an option although we have not yet started producing them -- nearly everyone tells us that they prefer to be able to see what is going on in the bowl.

Thanks again Kc for your thoughtful comments!

Hi StickStones,

Note: We have elected to discontinue putting the hole on the bottom on many of the more recent builds. Repeated in house testing seems to indicate that it makes very little difference in actual usage.

I can't speak to whether you're insane or not :p but I like the clearness of the plexi top. Even though I can't see in the trough while the Box is in use (I draw from the Boxes hole directly), I do like to be able to see the load when I'm shaking/stirring. You might consider "sanding" the top of the plexi with some fine emery paper (or sandpaper if you don't have emery paper). That should frost the top and kill any reflections. You can't go back though; once you've frosted the plexi it's almost impossible to buff it back out. You might try 3M frosted Scotch Tape (I think they call it Magic Tape). It will cut all the glare and is easily removable if you so desire. I don't know if the plexi top gets warm enough in use to turn the tapes glue into sticky mush though...

I just ordered another three Boxes from MF today. My prototype is beat to hell from the time I tried to reshape the negative terminal wire, so I want a production version for myself, and two of my closest friends are going to be very happy next week, when I show up bearing gifts!

Haywood

ps I really love my Volcano, mostly because I'm one of those people who prefers vaping from a bag. The Volcano is priced at least twice what it should be though, and I don't consider it a good value. One could buy eight Boxes for the cost of one Volcano!

yeah I do like the clearness, and I'll likely sand it, or tape. Two great ideas thanks. it definately doesnt get hot at all up there so tape would be an easy option, but to avoid any possability of leftover residue i think sanding is my likely choice. I still have the top from my defective LB, so in the event I dislike the sanded top I'll just switch back to glossy.

you are quite a generous person. I've had many a friend ask me how much where I got it etc. but I don't know if any will venture to or even remember the site after the session. If i could I'd take the same route as you and bless others with such a gift. good on ya.

and, cost effectiveness is a huge part of it, if you want forced air just get an 80 dollar heat gun from HD and wrap a bag around the end of a bong as you hit the bowl with the gun. Lol, but its not easy digital and one size fits all kind of thing so, volcano has its place for certain people I suppose. I still think MF should do a home model, and hope they forgive me for beating the subject to death... its like a klondike bar commercial lol, 'what would you do' with the jingle and all haha, to see the different experiments carried out in the MF labs. all the different odd mad scientist looking things I imagine, weather its such a spectacle or not It interests me greatly. What wouldn't I do to chug or even just glimpse a desktop MF device, hmmm.

Not sure how you could remove the plexi cover and put another back on. The way my prototype is constructed would require serious bending of the silver metal wire that holds the cover on. I seem to break stuff whenever I try to modify my Box, so I've stopped :brow:. I guess you could try removing the plexi from the defective LB and see if it can be done without breaking anything.

Personally, I would try the frosted tape first. If the glue on the tape becomes a mess, a little iso will remove it.

hey im fairly new to vaporizing and smoking all togeher, but i know i like being high :ko: . most recently i've inhaled smoke through pipes and blunts and realize that the smoke makes me sick(sore throat, runny nose, etc.) after my high is down. i was wondering if this would be a good start tool for me?

kc and haywood...how do you pack the trench in terms of how full, how packed, and how fine a grind? I typically have a more fine grind lightly laid in the trench at about half full. I'm guessing you do it differently with better results.

That's a good question. I don't think this is the easiest vaporizer to use, but it certainly is cost effective and works well everywhere. A great thing about this type of unit is that once you've got it mastered, you really do understand vaporization and all the variables that go into it.

I use the same grind and dryness as I do for the PD. Finely ground and chopped up with some scissors. I pack about half to 3/4 full. Mostly because it's hard for me to justify packing it full when I could probably pack 5+ bowls for my PD and get the same results or better. Either way though I get big cloudy hits.

I use an aluminum grinder, the same one that I use for my Volcano and when I want to (gasp!) roll a joint. It's the kind with really sharp "teeth", not the kind with round posts. It makes for a very finely and evenly ground load. I don't pack the load, I just dump it into the Box and tamp it lightly into the trough with my pinky. I usually fill the trough about 3/4 full, but I don't take much care with the amount; sometimes the trough is only half full, sometimes it winds up completely full. (Just the trough, not the whole chamber).

Hey everyone whats up i just got a quick question. Does the MAJIC FLIGHT BOX WORK BETTER THAN THE VAPIR OXYGEN WHICH I ALREADY OWN, BY THE WAY IT SUCK BAD..... I tried the vaporgenie it was way better. I want a travel size and i cant decide between the mfb or vg...its tough...

I do not own a Vapir Oxygen although I do own the Vapir One 5.0. I also own both the LB and the VG. I could never get a decent hit out of the VG without getting major lighter taste. My vote would be for the LB. As long as you have a charged battery it will deliver a slow, even vape every time. No need to worry about fooling around with a lighter. The other nice thing about the LB is you don't have to worry about plastic in your vapor path which is the same for the VG but not the Vapir so either way you go there will be a step up for you. It's really a matter of having to fool with a lighter to try and get a good hit or just popping in a charged battery and letting it do what it does, IMO.

First negative reaction probably. I really don't like this product. It was my first time vaporizing and I bought this. It's probably just me but it takes so long to get high. I'm probably going to be selling it and just get a Silver Surfer. Friend has one and I like it alot. Anyone want to trade? :)
