Yes.
The element not touching the glass is less important that you are thinking....
is the element BRIGHT orange?
You should see dark ABV
Do you want to skype with your unit plugged in so I can see?

Let me know my web cam is kinda crappy but we can take it to PMs for some Skype. I took a handful of pics without the heater cover and of the heater cover itself and of my ABV from my pax and SSV in different bags.

I get great pulls no doubt but at max power with a slow pull I didn't expect golden brown.

Thanks.

About 2 O'clock no heater cover:

ABV:

Top ABV is from Pax
Mid is max power slow pull heater cover all the way down.
Bottom is about 2-3 on the dial.

look at heater cover carefully. see that there are no cracks, and that the air hole at the "throat" of the HC is no larger than a pea.
The element looks OK
I will look for you tomorrow (Monday) to have a chat
I find the easiest way to deal with ABV oil is to just dab it.....
I like to put my ABV oil in an ecig... right down in the atomizer, on the element
I also put some in a cotton ball and vape it in the SSV wand

Is it a better idea to vape it or throw it on top of a bowl/pipe and torch it?
IMO, vaping is always better than combustion, so I'd say figuring a way to vape it is the way to go.
Also, how is the SSV's oil diffuser glass top used for concentrates? I've never understood how that would work.
The glass top isn't for concentrates.
It's for essential oils to fragrance your room. Kinda like one of those simple candle oil burners, but the SSV is the candle.
Dabbing is kind of still a foreign thing to me unfortunately.
It was to me at first, but it's not that hard once you've got all the necessary equipment in front of you.
There is a new heater cover design that allows you to dab with the SSV, I've read good things about it.
If you plan on making ABV oil again, perhaps that's something you could look into?
EDIT: Got a dab on the tip of my SSV pokey and dipped it in fresh ground herb, like you said.
Thank you so much for that tip, it worked perfectly. I was able to put a dab on a fresh bowl without much mess at all.
I'm a lot happier about my oil now than I was 20 minutes ago. haha thanks!
Glad it helped :)
You can also try the cotton ball method Vito mentioned.
I've never tried it, but I've read it works well.

I Vapes Hard
Hey FC,

So i was in 7th floor recently and saw a few new items im not sure if you guys discussed. They got a oil rig setup for the ssv, its a custom oil dome that replaces the heater cover and a ti nail that sits directly on the heating element. Has a different wand with a bubble to collect reclaim. Seems pretty sweet.

Also they got a new portable, the Vip by SSV. I tried browsing the portable vape section and didnt find it, searching failed cause "vip by ssv" is too short so im not sure if it has its own thread or has been discussed before. Looks pretty nice but i have yet to give it the ultimate test, a smoke session.

Just wanted to drop some info. Hope some of you have tried one of these and can give your review!

The oil rig setup has been discussed within this thread, the DBV thread and the rig has its own thread within the Vapor Related Equipment section.
Within the Thread Candidates sub-section there is the VIP from SSV thread.

Well, I may have spoken a bit soon about my AVB hash.

I can't... Um.. I can't figure out how to vape it. When I throw it on top of a bowl (in the form of dabs dipped in fresh bud for easier handling, as suggested to me here) it just kind of gets gooey but as far as I know I'm not really getting much vapor off of them, if any at all. The only thing it did was get black liquid all over the inside of my wand which then hardened.

Try using a small piece of cotton in your wand, load a chunk of hash and work your way up the dial don't be surprised if your above your normal maximum setting.

Thank you, I'll give it a go maybe tomorrow.

I am in serious need of a tolerance break soon. It's taking more and more bud to get me where I want to be. I've been toking daily now (with weird random breaks every now and then, but never for more than a week) for a while and now it takes about 3 ish bowls to myself for me to feel nice and toasty, not even really stoned.

The biggest problem is that I don't really have a good reason to take a break other than to lower my tolerance. My SSV and tube are sitting there next to my computer at all times. When I've finished doing everything I need to do for the day, I usually get straight to vaping. It's not so much of a 'problem' it's just that it's kind of habitual now. So, I told myself this morning that I'd take a break soon, and decided today would probably be the best day to start. However, come the end of the day when I'm all nice and relaxed otherwise, I just can't help but feel like some vapor in my lungs would make things even better.

Any way to clean the ceramic heater?

My buddy blew into it anddd now its a little dirty.

I've personally found that a lot of the dirt on that just tends to burn off over time and fall to the bottom of internal part of the heater cover, but if that isn't doing it, turn off/unplug your SSV and wait until it is cooled down. Then blow on it. Most of the cleaning I've had to do on the actual SSV unit itself has been done by just closing my eyes and blowing into it. As silly as it seems it has worked for me. :)

If all else fails, get something like a tissue lightly moist and then just wipe it off. The heating element is not nearly as sensitive or fragile as most people think it is.

TBH a decent tube hooked up to your SSV might be a more fun/different purchase than an LSV.

Some people will disagree with me but I personally think the SSV, DBV and LSV are essentially the same vape.

When the LSV came out, I wanted one but couldn't bring myself to buy one because I had the SSV. I waffled on that purchase for almost 2 years. I finally ordered one in August of last year and it's replaced the SSV as my daily driver. Ultimately, it came down to I used my SSV through a bong and I wanted to get rid of the tubing. And part of me just wanted to get something new and it was either the LSV or a Solo.

My SSV has come back out of retirement though because of the oil rig. I love it and there was no hesitation on this purchase. It's a torchless nail for $60. I've seen multiple people ask if this is like a torch and nail. Yes and no. The SSV is variable heat and at max setting, it will be pretty damn hot -- I have no idea if it's as hot as a torched nail but it will for damn sure melt your oil. I found that I prefer to dial mine back to 1-2oclock. I drop my dab and put on the glass hat. I let my globe get milky before I take a big ole lung buster. After I start inhaling, I lift the hat as a make shift carb and it helps cool down the hit. As a matter of fact, the SSV is back to being my daily driver, mostly because I took my stash and made some iso and I haven't re-upped yet. The biggest problem for me with the oil rig is I've never owned an oil rig and I overmedicated a bit when I first started experimenting with it.

I greened out the first night I had my SSV. I had been using my bong to combust daily for months and was fairly confident that my tolerance was high enough that the SSV wouldn't get me TOO fried.

Nope. lol.

I ate like an entire cherry pie and then passed out in my underwear. Good times.

'oil rigs' and pretty much everything associated with dabbing is new to me. I am just now starting to learn the differences between all the different kinds of concentrates.

Should I only get the SSV oil rig if I use a lot of concentrates or..?

Can I use it for pretty much any kind of concentrate, like hash?

my dab kit was shipped today, and ive got a buttload of oil ready to go, I can not wait.

Ive also been just dripping dabs onto a loaded bowl in the ssv, it melts into the herb almost immediately after hitting and makes for a nice strong sesh.

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
I use a Patron Tequila bottle, a 375ml will hold 3 oz grinded abv, probably double that almost when a coffee grinder is used. So I only need 2 or 3 of these small sized and I'm golden...

ps The gg ssv wand fits perfect in the top makes a perfect duff jar for free if your a Patron fan!

Would any of you recommend the standard wand/heater cover over the SGG setup?

I started (and am still using) the spherical ground glass setup and I really like it, but I've heard good things about the standard setup, some even saying it's better.

Thoughts?
