The HI

Alan,
this is my first post here but have been following this thread for some time now. first i must say that your vaporizers are absolutely beautiful. the reason i am posting is to share an idea with you for a "dock" like apparatus for the HI. forgive me for the crude drawing i have posted but it illustrates my basic idea. the dock could be set up similar to the Toasty Top holder but with a bowl piece at the bottom that the HI fits upside down on top. there would be a hole in the side of the base for attaching a whip. this would give the option to turn the HI into a desk-style hands free vape. i don't even know if this idea would work but i figured that it was an idea worth sharing.

can i stick my male joint in there?
nice idea but why use a whip, when you can just do a direct draw with a turbo tube?

i guess it would just come down to personal preference. i personally prefer a whip style myself. and also the whip could help cool down the vapor before it is inhaled

thats what bongs are for, heheheh
but i still really like your idea, a really cool wooden base would be sick.

yea the picture doesn't really do my idea justice. in my head i picture it with a more ornate design but for the sake of showing my idea i just used a boring block for the base

Really like the idea but, not to burst the bubble Fore567, it feels like a bit of over-design. Just stick tubing on any stem and you'll have a whip anyway :2c:

Or, for that matter, just use a length of tubing with a screen inserted in one end (like the UD uses). You could add a glass mouthpiece if you don't want just the silicone. :2c:

valid points. my thought process was that by orienting the HI upside down on top of the bowl it would keep plant matter from falling into the heating element and would also make it easy to stir while also providing a "hands free" experience

Alan, i've been searching for a new vape that's easy to load, simple, and always on that i could use with my existing glass. I love the idea of the HI.

My first question is can the HI be turned upside down? I currently have a Soverignty inverted 4-arm bong that i'd like to use in conduction with the HI.

My second question is how long does the HI stay hot enough to vaporize AFTER unplugging it? The reason i ask is that my roommates don't enjoy the smell of herbs. I have to go outside to vape. I'd like to leave the HI always plugged in, heated up, and ready to load in my room. When i'm ready to vape, i'd like to unplug it, walk outside, smash it in the bong, and rip the bowl. My concern is that the HI may get too cool due to the bong's increased airflow (it rips!). Would these be possible considering the quick heat up of the HI? or would i need maybe a TT? Or would none of the log vapes be able to accomplish what i'm looking for?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Great! now to just figure out how long it stays warm for. :)

I assumed with the long time it takes for the "always on" log vapes to heat up, it may take an equally long time to cool down. Hoping I'm not incorrect!

yes the HI can be used upside down. that pretty much how i use my HI, either upside down or on its side. once unplugged you prolly get one good hit, i recommend getting a very very very very long extension cord or get new friends.

Log vapes cool down much quicker than heating up. I'm thinking you can probably get a couple hits off it after unplugging and going outside, but I would think that's about it. And you'd better not dally...

momofthegoons,
Either an extension cord, or figure out some way of minimizing the smell while still vaping inside. Maybe the old dryer sheet over a paper towel tube trick? I'm assuming you already vape, and know that vapor is generally far less smelly than smoke.

BTW, my HI continues to impress. The crack now completely splits one side of the unit, but it still functions just fine. Absolutely crazy how much vapor you get off of just a tiny draw with this monster.

Dryer sheets arent very effective, and not good to breathe in(i know you blow through it, but theres still chemical fragrance emanating from it). This thingy called a SmokeBuddy works very well and is almost an improved upon version of that old trick. Its got a large carbon filter inside, and even if you blew smoke through you can not see ANY smoke come out the otherside. Very cool. Def a great product to use if you worry about smell. And yes, vapor smells a LOT less then smoke does.

Ok let me take a stab at this. I dont believe any log vapes will stay warm enough to fully Roast a tube you might get 2-3 hits b4 the temp drops too low for any effect. And the HI using less inner heat sink area will probably cool down faster than the units with a higher massed heat exchanger.

But A benefit of the HI compared to other log vapes is the quick heatup time 5 min I believe. compared to 30-45 min

Now Whats with the roomies what are they smelling of the herbs? Smoked smell or Vaped Smell?

wooden mouthpiece mod

Had an idea if you prefer a glass bowl on youre wood mouthpiece but dont want to worry about breakages.pop 20mm silicone sleeve over the bowl lsimilar idea as the arizer eq tuffbowl.should stand up to a drop.might want to increase diameter of wood stem above the bowl area to cater for the extra 3mm diameter of the silicone sleeve..Just in keeping with the seamless look of the Hi.:p

Edit- Further research shows this doesn't work.

Great, thanks for the help everyone. Still interested in the HI. I think the quick heat up and always on is selling me!

I think the problem with unplugging before hitting is that when you hit it, you are basically pulling the heat out of the unit. if it's on this will immediatly be replenished, but if you have unplugged it you will quickly loose heat when hitting I think, it'll probably stay warm longer if you don't hit it(my guess)

but you could also get a battery pack that suplies the right voltage and amperage, such a battery pack won't last long but you could keep it plugged in inside, the attach the batterypack and go outside to vape, and the batterypack will only have to last you one session wich should go easily I think
