Here is a video I made to show how the VG Coil works so well with glass. The second hit sent me into a coughing fit, but I managed to his the stop button to spare everyone the sight.

i tried using the coil today with 14mm GonG (not a vertical load joint like yours) and it definitely wasn't very air tight.

not 100% air tight works fine with smoke but with vapor i find it makes the hits much too airy.

I could see any simple tubing could make an easy 100% seal (just using a super short amount of tubing)

i used my vg coil with my friends bong this weekend and it was awesome. It fits so nicely into a 14mm joint and I got way better clouds than i ever did without it :) but i cant be doing that every time i vape because i don't own any glass pieces so I still use it by itself.

Maybe this technique requires a vertical stem, then. Because I've used it this way even with a 14mm adapter in the bowl and it works fine. Maybe any angle makes the coil lean to one side of the stem causing airflow gaps? I don't know.

If you cover the intake hole of the coil while its in the joint, you can still breathe in a lot of air, even holding it down.
So maybe it works if you dont notice that but that just means you're having some fresh air mixed in.

That video definitely looked like a fat milk though.
I think i wasn't holding the flame quite as long as you did though, maybe it'll work better like that. I'll try tomorrow (friend's coil :p)

The Coil definitely is NOT airtight sitting in a bong/bubbler, but it hardly matters in my experience. The outside airflow has little to no effect on my hits as far as I can tell. It just fogs glass like nothing else... airtight or not.

Give it another go. Now I'm curious if it works with an angled stem or not.

I've used mine with a non vertical stem. Im not sure if it was airtight or not but it still worked well.

corndogg,
A simple rubber O-ring for a normal 9mm stem will stretch enough to make the SS coil airtight within a 14mm Gong female. Any headshop'll have them.

It does indeed work just fine without being completely airtight, but will of course work better if it is.

Is there anyone who uses the coil without water filtration lol?
:ninja:

And by this you mean.... LOL

By this I mean - Yessir. :D
Although I was touting how well this pipe works with a glass piece, I still use it quite frequently without it. (Especially for quick tokes when I dont have time to sit and bongit)

I would definitely be interested in a little rubber piece to make it more airtight (although its not necessarily needed) - I figure the little orange pieces on the Supreme might work rather well.

Great Scott!
Thanks AGBeer. I got scared that I ordered a piece that sucks without water filtration lol.

I have a angled stem bong so when it gets here I'll let you know.

Truth be told, I think my only complaint about this vape is the fact that it uses more than my MFLB.
So yeah, when Im trying to conserve - it sucks :D

I've noticed that with all lighter based vapes honestly. But then again they are harder hitters than the MFLB ever is (for me with 2700s)

After day 1 with the coil I am torn.

I get a MUCH better more even hit with a Bic lighter, but I can actually taste the butane especially when I exhale.

With the torch lighter it tastes better, but I feel like I'm getting a worse hit (besides the one accidental combustion lol)

I don't know how I feel about that situation because I don't want to be inhaling toxins, but I wanted a good hit.

darkrom,

OhTheAgony

here for the chicks
That's why I don't use regular flame lighters with my lighter based vapes Darkrom, I really loath the taste.
Perhaps you should experiment a little more with a longer draw & the torch further away from the vape?

I will definitely be experimenting with it but it was a HUGE difference with the regular lighter. If it didn't taste like poison I'd certainly prefer a standard bic :/

Agreed... The torch is a little different of a learning curve and it does take a little finesse' to get it down pat.

The thing I like about the torch over the bic is the shortened heat up time. I can tend to take smaller 'puffs/hits' (if you will)

Plus, your VG will thank you down the road. I need to get a picture of my buddies SS VG that he used exclusively with a Bic for some time. The stone is brownish/yellow (from all of the flint dust) and the inner coil is blackened from soot. Ive had my SS coil for the same amount of time and have used nothing but the torch. HUGE difference :)

AGBeer,

Great Scott!
Do you guys put the torch flame INTO the coil, or do you light it so they are perpendicular and suck the flame in?

I have no issues using a Bic, but getting these torch lighters seems like I am always underdoing or overdoing it quite a bit.

What I like to try to do is vape in an area that is out of direct light. If you light your torch and look at it closer, you will see that you have 2 'aurora' (for lack of a better term)

A dark(er) blue (more solid) inner aurora - This one is usually the center/shorter part of the flame. This normally comes from the end of the nozzle itself. Outside of that, is a little less visible aurora of the torch flame - this cat can extend up to a half an inch from the inner aurora. THIS is the part of the flame that I let enter the VG, hence why its important to vape in a 'lower light' situation. Letting that little aurora guy into or near the opening tends to make me combust almost every time.

This is a good starting point for gauging the distance, in conjunction with the heat in your mouth. When it comes to the torch - further is better you will be surprised. :)

Good luck - Hopefully you will get it soon!
:D

*Note* I do on occasion get the little extra toasty 'spot' on my herb, but this is a minor inconvenience and helps let me know that I need to start further away next time and come in closer if need be.

darkroom,

Cant you get the best of both worlds with a standard orange-flame piezo-electric lighter? no flint dust with a easy manageable flame

Since I got this vape I can't tell if it is a coincidence or not but I have nasty spots on the roof of my mouth similar to the kind you'd expect from eating food that is way too hot, but with a nasty butane taste. I am pretty heavily grossed out and discouraged by this. Since I have anxiety and I hate the taste and feeling of shortness of breath from huffing butane, I'm not sure this is a vape I should keep. It works really well as a portable though. I can't help wondering if the "different" feeling highs have anything to do with the taste of butane and shortness of breath :uhoh: I know I am rather picky and sensitive to this stuff, but it is real for sure and not a figment of my anxiety lol.

Hmmm darkrom, that isn't good news. I should be getting my coil in the post on Monday and had high hopes. What you've just posted sounds like excessive heat either coming from the metal or hot vapours scorching your mouth. Have you been hitting it through water or 'raw'?
