I guess I'd consider them more wet than damp?

Using the qtip holder w/distilled water reservoir, I submerge the Qtip for about 2 seconds. Enough to see an air bubble or two come off the tip.

Usually at the end of the night, I'll turn off the banger, take my ruby pearls out, and dump about 1 mL of distilled water into the banger.

It boils up pretty quickly, and I just mop up the last little bit with a dry Qtip.

I make sure my ruby pearls are out at that point, because I'm not sure they could withstand that temperature shock. Using quartz pearls, I wouldn't worry about it though.

Just my experience, I don't find that they do much. I think there is too much radiant heat in the bucket (compared to a sic halo). Dry isn't perfect, but I find it cleans up the oil enough for my taste. Regardless, cleanliness is simply a non-issue for me with a banger.

Yep no issues with dripping wet qtips here @JCat but I'm a torch quartz dabber so I expect far lower temps by the time I'm cleaning than a coil user.

Wet qtips will reveal a whole new level of grime that the dry qtips don't get. Happens every session, the wet qtip is about 1/3 as dirty as the dry swabs which I use before the wet swabs.

I don't consider myself a neat freak by any means but a kind FC member reminded me even a lil gunk on the nail will alter the flavor, IMO for the worse.

I get mine almost as dirty as yours below the coil. My walls where the coils are get brown and I get a black ring around the bottom in the corner. The only part I can mange to keep clean is the actual dab surface on the bottom. The pearls turn brown right away too, no idea how to keep those clean. I q-tip after every dab and use a wet one at the end, but I ended up buying a second banger to use while I soak the other one. For soaking I had to switch to simple green instead of iso too, even in an ultra sonic cleaner iso just wasn't working as well as I'm used to. Even with simple green I usually have some marks on the walls and black spots in the corners left. Scrubbing it with baking soda helps a little, but I can never get it all off. Haven't tried torching.

Well I’ve been trying the wet q-tip cleaning @ 460-470ish and it’s working well :)

I’ve got my script setup so when I’m done my dab the coil remains off for a few minutes which gives me an opportunity to clean while still hot but with the temp dropping ... if I finish cleaning early I just hit the button to cancel the script and it resets to my start temp. (480-490)

For the pearls dumping them into 99% ISO while hot (460) gets them like new clean every time.

Okay so my 25 mm banger and 25 mm coil landed and Shane took care of me. Terp pearls, a clip kit, candy, and a gorgeous glass pen dabber. A+ service. When I went to test everything out, I think I messed up bad. I didnt take the coil off the banger before it cooled too much after turning the controller off. The bottom opaque part cracked right off. :doh:

Edit: I’m guessing this is a no no, when should I take the coil off the banger?

2nd edit: he’s sending out a replacement now :love:

I don't mess with it until after the coil and banger are both pretty much room temp. I broke way too many bangers last year around this time... now, I just use the clips and am pretty wary about any movements of the banger (besides rotation in the neck joint) and haven't broken anything in many months.

luck? possibly but not likely? I have a small rig and it's tipped over some times, due to the weight of the coil before, but no issues somehow.

hopefully grabbing an axial soon! my enail use is low lately, i wish i could set my HN a few degrees lower (lollll), but don't really wanna buy more gear atm

Finally decided to upgrade from the Sai. Here’s the maiden voyage of the new setup with 25mm opaque, axial coils and an auber controller.

First test was at 525 from some recently pressed rosin. Strain is Bear Dance. Definitely got a blast of slightly lemony menthol coming through on the flavor. It was tasty, but I’m going to go a bit lower on the temp next round.

I don’t have anything to add about my experience with @710Coils that hasn’t been said a hundred times already. Super friendly, helpful and super quick communication and order processing. All good!

Could possibly just have been a poorly QC/fused banger? I didn't think what he did should have caused that break/separation. All he did was turn his controller off and thinks that the banger contracting broke it?

Were these 710Coils bangers? Someone mentioned this in the last page and I asked the same question, as I feel it's pretty important.

Also as an aside, i'm just curious - but are there any 710Coils banger fans out there exclusively using inserts with theirs? I'm really starting to prefer the opaque insert in my 30mm banger over straight up!

That was my thought as well, maybe just luck of the draw. I've used 3 different DHGate bangers with my 30mm axial and haven't had any of them break... all have been left in the coil after a session. They do tighten a bit, but not to the point I'd be concerned about breakage.

edit: have not used any 710Coils bangers, though, so can't comment on that.

Sorry, it was a comment on the topic of devitrification of quartz. There was told about the temps CLEAN quartz can stand w/o devitrification. I only meant just fingerprints and its waxes/fats are contaminants - besides the residues inside the banger of course - that could decrease the limit of temperature for devitrification, anyway, it's inside or outside the banger. The only open question is to which temperature these contaminants decrease the point of devitrification. Hope you are understanding now what I've meant?

Perhaps you don't need another banger, could be just some inserts do the job if you swap them when needed.

Wow!!!! You guys have been busy discussing Qtip etiquette.

Here is a good rule of thumb. Rosin is always going to be messier than THCA and shatter. So you will need to Qtip more often and as soon as you are done with your dab. The longer it sits. the harder it will be to remove.
If you are doing higher temp dabs the above will also apply as you are trying to Qtip up what you can before it flashes to the banger. Once its stuck, you will need to soak or heat clean.

I have also found the dirty end of the Qtip will sometimes break up hard spots when cleaning up. So I always try to scrub a little with it to break up those tougher spots

The clear bangers clean up easier for Rosin and so some prefer them for this reason alone.

I also agree that if you are good with the funcion you would not need to worry about the looks =)

The ring will sometimes cause a decrease in quality of flavor. But is only really noticeable after cleaning and doing the first dab on the clean banger

Gotta say that Shane has just impressed me over and over this year with his acts of kindness for others. Over and over, when there’s absolutely no benefit for himself. I sure do hope that Father Christmas really takes good care of one of our favourite boys this year!

Moving home the week before Christmas is brutal! But starting the new year in a new home is sweet.
BTW Shane: when you say you’re officially moved into your new place, do you mean that everything is exactly where your lovely wife wants it? Or just that the boxes and furniture have been transported? :lol:

You are not the first person to ask ... I can build you an adapter for the cost of parts, shipping, & $20 ... but that makes for an expensive adapter! (you are the 2nd to ask about the mininail ... I would of course need to get definitive specs on the pin configuration, but it could be done)

@JCat did you ever find out if there was a parameter/setting for 150w coil for the Omron?

And has anyone else out there used both the slit and non-slit inserts, and do you prefer one over the other?

Glad you posted that, didn't think about it. I checked the mininail website, and they say the controller, i belive they are specifying just the controller, runs on 89 watts of power. I checked on their coils and it just says the volts, nothing about the acutal wats of the heater coil.

Much appreciated. I think the cost wouldn't bother me, but like biohacker mentioned, I didn't consider whether the watts of the coil would be the same or an issue. Any other thoughts?


The mininail has worked well for me since i've had it, about 6 months. I've seen others that look nice, and have more features, just don't think i woudl use the additional features. I prolly should have spent some more time researching but was just excited to buy an enail since i wasn't happy with the other options i had for concentrate use. The mininail has been great, but hindsight i would prefer one that can use some other coils to.
