Good morning. Still working on funding my switches, but on the way. Someone jumped on the Blend sale with coupon code: BLENDIN (10%). The Racing Stripe design is a winner!

If anyone is interested in the pre-assembly Uniques that are posted on the website with reference numbers and prices, you can send payment via paypal. Prices are posted, add $10 shipping / $25 mouthpiece (optional) / $20 (2) batteries (optional). Please reference the unit #. If you don't have my PayPal email, you can PM me. I can also send you an invoice. These Uniques are 8A deals.

I'm working on 8A + 3 switch repairs. Believe it or not, I still have a few coming in from previous batches that did not feature the current switch. If I could swing it, I'd buy 500 of these awesome switches. The switch issues represented the single biggest problem, as well as waste of time and money that I've had to deal with so far. I think 90 percent of repairs were the switch. I had one wood body split (flaw in the wood), and maybe one short in an early unit, but that's about it. You can understand my obsession with stocking lots of switches.

So today's main job is assembly of as many units as I can. Going to have to build a few coils to get 8A finalized, and my current goal is to get to the post office next week. This includes all repairs / replacements as well. Anything that sells outside of the posted, pre-assembled Uniques will be placed in batch 8B.

I really don't want the world to see the Uniq photo gallery with sale prices. The prices in the store are the *public* price, but for members here on FC, I've started a members only section on the website that includes the Uniq Gallery. For right now that just includes the page with the gallery (a link from the Uniq page). There is also a PayPal link on the page where you can select how much to pay based on options (mouthpiece, batteries, shipping). The catch is you'll have to be granted access via your email address, which you need to give me in advance. Also the paypal link will say donate (after the initial click). That's the only way to allow it to be variable. PM me your email and I will sign you up. I can send you a pay link, or you can pay online.

Six hours is a long time at Vapwood...

I managed to add about 100 emails to the Members Only Uniq Page on the website. You have to click through the email you should be getting. If you don't get an email, but would like access to the Members Only Page, just send me your email via PM and I'll add you. Pretty much anyone who's made a purchase through the site should already be included. Right now the Member's Only Page has the Uniq Gallery, which is a great way for me to post current deals. I've got a bunch of Blends on sale, as well as a Beaded Unit, and a couple of Classics, all slashed. These units are not fully assembled, and once they are, they will be moved to the store and sold at their list prices.

Let me see if I can accurately describe today's work. I had to take Reddy to the vet this morning for a check up. He is slowly but surely improving. :rockon:Anyway, lost half a day, so I decided to just assemble a few units. First unit was my PH / Walnut Classic for a good customer. I'm giving everything a really good look over and I see a chip in the corner of the switch box, where it attaches to the main body. It is small, but I cannot let this unit out of my shop like this. I have to stop everything, and build a walnut switch box (none on hand). It took at least an hour to build 3 switch boxes, another half hour to pare it up to the unit, and finish it once again. The unit is built, but instead of 45 minutes, it took almost 2 and a half hours - but it's perfect. If my only goal was a quick buck, I could've salvaged the switch box, but there is a new standard, the bar has been raised. Now I'll have a few customers a bit more impatient, but one customer really freakin' happy.

I've used up all my coils. I have 3 in my coil draw (yes, I have a coil draw), but I don't love them. They must be a little older, because they are wound clockwise. I'm sure they're not more than a month old, but I'm still not using them. I need about another 5 or 6 coils to get batch 8A out. I'll do a mini coil forming, at about 10, and complete batch 8.

I'm happy to say, the new process and work sequence made adding a new switch box a pretty straight forward process. Luckily, I had the stock thicknessed beforehand (half the battle). Drilling the hole for the switch at the very end is a nice touch, but the belt sander truly makes in feel like one piece of wood, especially with the finer grit paper. I've gotten the hang of the table/guide for the belt as well as the disc. This truly is 21st century sanding. My hands no longer ache from hand sanding, which is now a quick process. Mortising out the inside for the switch is also getting routine.

All in all, as we approach our 11 month of Lil' Bud, things are really coming together. As of right now, 4 different varieties of Lil' Bud are available for sale or pre-sale, the Classic, Blend, Unique, and Elite. Yes, I've gotten a lot faster, but much of that speed is being used up by the extra processes necessary to put together an LB 2.2.

Good call on checking for edits :) I really like the uniq photo gallery FC member ideal. More than likely with already having a lil bud and the elite on order. Another lil bud would only be bought if something really caught my eye. Definitely be checking out these offerings thanks for the email Mike.

Has there been any follow up to using a larger battery in the elites? How about a blended elite?

Anyways I don't normally use the lil bud when home. I decided thou needed to dance the combustion line today. I need some heavy duty pain relief so decided go the manual route and lil bud would be the ticket.

Getting better control of the lil bud so can get up into the 446 degree range I use when the pains bad. When I first got my lil bud I commented how hot it ran. it's a good thing, since you can always feather button to lower heat. But if device doesn't get hot enough to get me to these higher temperatures then it's limited in it's usefulness for me.

Don't know if just getting broke in? Or if batteries just lossing some power? I notice it's more difficult to combust now. Still gets to the high temperatures just not as quickly or overshooting it now. When I first got my lil bud with brand new batteries really had be careful I didn't combust. Now finding it harder to do. 99% sure it's just the battery there be no other reason I could think of. Figured I would ask just to be 100% sure.
Does the heater possible mellow or run cooler over time or with heavy use?

First I'll say, sounds like the switch. Maybe your timing is just better, weed drier, or whatever is going on, but that's if it's an older switch (either one or two), I always think switch. I've lost track, but what unit do you have?

Weak batteries are another option, but I think I can combust if I try to, I know I can get damn close, even on a weak battery (3.7). The hemp fiber lets me hit higher temps, closer to combustion, and I still don't combust. With a normal session, I try to bring the bowl through the lower temps for as long as I can. I think that's just more of a taste thing.

Yes, be aware that with my big mouth and the six hour limit, I tend update my posts. I usually make note that it's been edited, but not always. I also hit the post reply button, and then immediately realize I forgot something.

I agree by not really buying something until it catches the eye, hence the members only page where I can shamelessly parade all sorts of stuff around, usually discounted, and just to members only.

Mine was recent batch 7b think its one of the newer switch. But not the newest new switch. If it continues or get worse will let you know. Still works great so see no reason for replacing switch at this point.

Just was something I noticed so figured I would ask.

Good Saturday Morning!

Sitting here, sipping on my LB Blend, with the my battery gauge back plate, trying to decide if I want to mount the volt meter bottom to top, or top to bottom. I admit, keeping track of battery life is kinda cool. I've got a few of these on order, working on making it really comfy to leave in place while in use.

My new Blend DD is so super smooth. This is truly the most even heat LB that I've used as my DD to date. I am really looking forward to the Elite, but the new manual configuration is off the chart control wise. I attribute it to a few factors working synergistically.
  • Increase in soldier used in forming the coil
  • Tightly wrapped ss foil lined coil compartment
  • Turbo vent holes
  • New switch
I also realize that basically nobody has an LB 2.2. The next few batches that ship, I predict, will be received quite well, but not only for the performance improvements, but the aesthetics. Classic, Blend, Uniq, and soon to be Elite, have jumped up quite a few notches in a single batch. This has been a culmination of tool refinement over the last few batches. Shit is dialed in.

The evolution of this process, and LB, has been quite dramatic. LB was a little rough around the edges to start, but now the diamond in the rough is shining through. Damn do I love hitting this little guy.
EDIT: gauge removed, regular back plate installed, feels so tiny, after a session with gauge attached.

I brought both my med pen and LB. For what it is, the cartridge pen isn't bad, virtually invisible, odorless, and tasteless. I really don't feel like I'm vaping, but the effect is definitely there. It's a 20T to 1C mixture, so pretty up. But as soon as I got my hands on LB, the pen was relieved of duty. Also not cheap at $95 a cartridge. LB with dry flower is far more economical.

From what I can tell I am not the norm with this, but those pens and the cartridges do nothing for me. I can suck down hit after hit and just feel the slightest change while whenever I am hitting dry herb, regardless of what I am hitting it through, I can feel the affects right away. And since those cartridges are very pricey, I gave up using them entirely.

but I'm officially removing all pressure from myself as far as deadlines. I know my work ethic is over the top, and that is all I can do, my best. If that's not good enough for everyone, you going to have to find somebody to build your vapes...

@Bravesst , I can only speak for myself, obviously, but you shouldn't feel ANY pressure at ANY time regarding building wooden vapes. I mean, yes, you have accepted people's money and with that assumes some level of responsibility but I can't tell you how bad I felt that you were stressing out about getting people's vapes out for shipping while Reddy was suffering and you and your wife were going through real life stress.

I was one of those waiting for my quilted maple to be sent out during this time period and I suppose if you have nothing else to vape with, that could be an issue, but I would make the assumption that most of us have many different devices to vape with and that the LB is just another addition to the collection.

You have been very forthcoming as far as keeping us all up to date regarding the build process and giving us estimates as to when batches will be completed. But any business venture is going to have issues, whether its some bad switches or customers with high expectations.

When it comes to expectations from one craftsman building things in his personal woodshop, I think people need to calm down a bit. There are plenty of websites and manufactures that have an amazing amount of vapes available to order right now and its always good to have some choices as to what to vape with.

Since trying the LB, its been my main go to device, especially for the ease of use and how quickly I can grab it, and be getting vapor almost instantaneously. While no one likes waiting for anything, imagine ordering a different device, firing it up, and having it pour out toxic gaseous fumes that have you afraid to use it. That can't and won't ever happen with the LB, one of the reasons its so awesome.....

This might be the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Lil' Bud or Reddy (original Lil' Bud). Thank you, sincerely.
:love::love::love:
You are gonna love your new unit. I am very excited to get all my current builds out there. With the recent changes, the future is looking bright. I am hopeful that new reviews (and lack of repairs) will tell all. My advice would be to jump in now, as you will be getting a highly tweaked out Classic (Blend or Unique). The Elite will also strive to reach this level of excellence.

Nice to read @RushVaporTrails, you weren't always so patient and happy in a few emails you sent me, , happy you now feel this way about LB my friend! It sure is Awesome.

Well, don't forget I was dealing with some frustrations with a very hot button so that was most of it. And I suppose there is some sense of frustration when you get a new device and you want to play with it but are having some kind of issues, but, Mike has been great with keeping up with customer service and knowing the guy behind the curtain is always a good thing, lol.

Well, I am glad I was able to express myself in a way that was appreciated, but just so everyone knows, I call it like I see it and when are you really able to email or message a manufacturer of anything and get this kind of positive response and customization. Try calling the Ferrari factory in Maranello and see if they can swap out that interior material on a moments notice (I wish).

And to be fair and balanced, (did i really just utter that phrase?) I have yet to express any opinions on these pages about the LB Elite. I won't be negative because I don't have anything to be negative about, but at this point, I actually don't really get it.

My main draw of the LB classic, was the one button, a battery and a loaded stem gets you there. Nothing else to fuss with and no electronic screen with modes, temperatures and the rest.

Based on the excitement I have read about the Elite, I guess I am probably in the minority, but again, I am not criticizing the Elite, just saying I don't understand it, which makes sense since I have never owned a mod or those 510 things, see I don't even know what they are.

I love the fact that the LB classic doesn't have electronics on board. Besides the awesome results and the whole wood concept, it might be the best part of the LB.

When the Elite is released I am sure I will be reading all about it on these pages and what it can do and how it compares to the LB Classic and maybe I will catch on with others anticipation and excitement. But for now just call me an LB Classic kind of guy. Hope this means I am not considered old at this point, shying away from electronics, yeah, its making me feel old.

I felt exactly the same.

Felt for @Bravesst during Reddy's health issues. Reminded me of my family hound. She went through a fair bit towards the latter part of her life and I miss her dearly.

I have other vapes and look forward to receiving a Lil Bud Elite but I'm in no rush. It's something to look forward to and I get a great deal of joy following @Bravesst posts and build process.

I can't believe how lucky we are as a community to have these amazing artisans around and willing to work with us. @Bravesst, @Dan Morrison, @phattpiggie, @Ed's TnT, @Winegums and of course @Alan. That isn't even a complete list! Actually come to think of it VAS is all of your fault! Damn you guys :p

For me the Elite is compelling for the following reasons:
  • Battery - it's really easy to accidentally drain the batteries too far in unregulated vapes which can shorten their lifespan. I've seen members of this thread comment on having accidentally dropped the battery voltage to 2.7v. This won't happen under the watchful circuitry of the DNA chip.
  • Battery meter - I know recently @Bravesst has found better meters which can be installed perminently but previously that wasn't the case.
  • Built in charging - more convenient unless you are a heavy user requiring battery swapping.
  • Set and forget temp control - I should be able to hand a regulated vape to a total newb and they should still get a good hit.
    • When I'm tired and not paying attention the TC should stop me from accidentally combusting.
Just my :2c:, regardless of if you go Classic or Elite I think the Lil Bud is a fantastic vape.

@RushVaporTrails yeah man , Mike's customer service is outstanding! I'm glad you stuck with the LB crew , indeed with excitement build up and switch crapping out , I understand it can be a downer . You did stay collected and gave Mike the chance to make up for it , which I knew (was quite sure anyways) that he would . that's what makes you cool , RushTrail, and deserving of the special mention in my latest vid ! Lol

Great all around post @GreenHopper , we are spoiled to have vape building wizards indeed ! yeah , I miss my lil pooch dearly too, I share your feelings, thank you for sharing about her .

Ok , so , maybe I vape too much ?? Special mention next vid will go to the person who can make sense of or finish my thought in this video below ! :freak: Warning : Cloud Show!! Foggy !

Either you were going to say:
  • A) "I pushed the button before I..."... started drawing and nearly combusted.
Or
  • B) "I pushed the button[, ] before I..."...knew it I had erased the whole Internet.
Or
  • C) "I pushed the button before I..."... could strap myself in, it's gonna be a crazy ride, Wooooohaaaaaarrrrr

You are eagerly awaiting the Elite, and I understand that and it is fine. I am sure you will enjoy it for years to come.

Just don't try to explain a $100 increase in expense and the chance of electronics failure to make the life of a $6-7 dollar battery last longer.

I find the last point much more compelling and the only reason I could see myself buying an Elite.

To me, even though I prefer regulated devices, in general, the biggest draw of Lil Bud (besides the EXCELLENT craftsmanship) is the simplicity. And I mean that in a good way, the lack of glass, adhesives, and electronics are all pluses for me.

While I am sure Mike does not advise it, I would be pretty surprised if a LB that fell into water could not have the battery removed, be covered in a big bowl of Rice and work in a few hours.

Fair enough bud I can't argue with your point there.

I guess I'm more interested in protecting the battery so I don't have to worry about repeatedly charging an overly discharged battery because I didn't realise I was over discharging it in the first place.

It's more just a peace of mind kinda thing. I like the battery protection the DNA chip offers.

Also I don't want to have to remove the battery each time it needs charging. The chip offers charging via USB port.

I want a plug and play device that doesn't require any more than the minimal amount of thought or effort to maintain and use.

I have no need for water protection and I'm not worried about the chip failing, it may happen but it's not like the DNA chips have a high failure rate.

It's worth stating that in my case I have a Nomad on the way so I have that unregulated spot in my collection covered. I wanted a DNA based vape to sit at the other end of the spectrum, for me that's the Lil Bud Elite.

Some very interesting points being made about Classic vs Elite. Those of you who prefer the utter simplicity, reliability (now that the switch issue is solved), power, and taste of LB, are in no way drawn to an Elite, unless performance was better - more powerful, efficiency, taste and control. But what if the recent improvements in the LB 2.2 have bumped up all of those things in the Classic? Might make the decision even harder, or easier, if you're leaning towards the traditional.

I'm lucky, I get to try both for myself, before anyone else. Will the Elite beat the Classic right out of the gate? Probably not. It's hard to predict how performance will be, but I'd have to say the biggest benefit over the Classic is control, with the goal of getting as close to combustion as you want to get, and never combusting.

As far as keeping an eye on the battery is concerned, I just got another half dozen volt meters to turn into back plate gauges. I think the next prototype will really blend into the unit. It'll add about 5/16th in depth (vs half inch on the Elite). Once I get the edging right, and magnets installed, it should be a truly viable way to stay on top of battery life. It also achieves the goal of not adding any electronics to LB itself. I have to say that I'm using this gauge all the time. Looks cool, feels cool, works well - and it will get much better after a couple more builds.

I love my Classic self regulated LB, but especially since the performance has gone through the roof. I don't think I've ever seen this level of extraction and simultaneous smoothness from any other device I've ever used. In fact I know I haven't. That's a tall order for the much anticipated LB Elite.

My Cherry LB is becoming my go-to vape for taste, extraction, performance, and feel. And it is simple and easy to use. The power of the coil with the upgraded switch, and the redesigned switch box make it so efficient.

I totally understand why some people are going to want the Elite, and why some people will want the Classic. It's not a right or a wrong choice. It's about wants and individual preferences. And some folks are going to want both. I'm not sure whether I'll want both yet, or not. I LOVE my LB Classic.

I enjoy my lone regulated device a couple of times a week. But for me, the truth is the LB is the easier and faster way to vape my flower.

Pop in a fresh batt, load a stem, and in under a minute I can have three really wonderful draws and be right where I want to be. There's ONE button.

Hell, my Solo OG wouldn't be up to temp in a minute, and since I use my vapcaps with water 99.9% of the time it would take me twice as long to get set up for one heating cycle let alone get three in a minute.

My LB is the leader of a simple yet sophisticated pack of vaporizers.

  • Sorry about the sideways pic. Im fine but there is a lot of flooding (note left of photo) and destruction. We have power and are safe. We seem to be in the eye at the moment. Some more nasty shit to come. This morning was scariest as it approached and the wind hit us directly. Seems to have shifted and now we are more sheltered. My Chihuahua was getting pretty nervous. Lil Bud has been awesome as per normal. Thanks for well wishes guys.
