Firewood Vaporizer

I just bought my FW3, after having an Arizer Air for almost a year.

Looking to buy a longer glass stem to fit my FW3, a battery pack that can fit 4x AA with a compatible plug, and a smell-proof hard case (or as close to it as can fit a FW3 snuggly).

Any suggestions? I'm still reading all the backlog, sorry if I am asking a common question.

4) Any cases you guys are using for this? I want to take it hiking/camping, but I fear the CA glue and tiny battery cover wood need some cushioning for this rough handling.
I got a Ryot Packratz (medium size) for mine. It's padded and can also carry a few small tools, extra capsules, some herb, etc... good for packing in a bag, but too large for a pocket, so I don't use it that often. A slim, pocketable smell-proof case would be nice to have!

@funkyjunky, do drip tips fit and seal directly in the mouthpiece, or do you have to add a silicone gasket or something?

I still have yet to buy a case (on the list though) but I did try my brother's 3ds XL hard case, and both the FW and the mouthpiece caddy fit with some extra room for herb/longer than standard mouthpieces. I didn't test this, but I don't think it was quite big enough for the charger to fit in, which I would have liked. I didn't test if it kept smell in long term, but I think it's probably fine. My FW3 smells but only just enough to notice (and not even totally like weed, more like some weed-reminiscent slightly tart woody smell), which is why I currently keep it in its ship box inside a drawstring bag.

I'm considering seeing if a standard 3ds case (as opposed to XL) will work, but one with the separated section for a few games so I can have a small amount of herb slightly separated. Heck, if it's one of those soft case ones with a little padding in, you could probably try cutting it open and adding some baggies of activated carbon yourself to see if that helps neutralize the smell. (if not, sorry, I've never been a big DIYer)

Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
I have eNano, UD, and VC in addition to the Walnut FW3 I received a couple of weeks ago. My questions to you all:
1) Do you all (Walnut peeps especially) taste a vinegary taste, or get a vinegary smell from the mouthpeice/logo area? 2 non users and 1 user I asked all said (before I suggested anything), it smells like Vinegar. I've been leaving the capsule out and airing this thing out for two weeks. Although the vinegar smell is a litte less, it still persists. I do wonder if the finish is really just beeswax and mineral oil, I'm not suggesting it's anything sinister, just my walnut handle knife(unfinished when bought) and walnut e nano (shellac) do not smell like this thing!
Hmm... I'm pretty sensitive when it comes to smells. It's all just wood for me. Only found the taste a little special in the beginning..
5) My glass/heating coil/battery charger (maybe everything except the wood) are off center. Anyone elses like this? My plug fits into the charger hole but barely, and my coil/glass set up is slightly off center. I don't worry too much about this as I figure it might help turbulence, just wondering how others were built.
Yep, my heating cylinder is off centered too... Slightly.

I am also very sensitive to taste, but no so much to smell unless it is an in my face type of smell. I have had two walnut models and never smelt anything but wood or beeswax (when applying or fresh applied). I only taste wood with my herbs, nothing else.

I believe my heating cylinder is slightly off-centered as well.

Small background: almost a year long log-vape user ( Underdog ) haven't combusted purposely in quite some time. Hem'd and haw'd for a while at the idea of battery pack for my Underdog and finally went with it, which makes it portable. Yet at the same time, it isn't as portable as my old Pax 1 was, where stealth was one of its main functions and you could literally walk around NYC city blocks at night inconspicuously. I originally got rid of the Pax because I finally had my own place where I could vape indoors and wanted something more efficient, yet as time goes I encounter many situations where I can't have my underdog out obviously and comfortably. For these reasons, I was in the market for a portable vape. I was very interested in the grasshopper, which had been talked up heavily on /r/vaporents for a while but really wasn't sold on its durability for some reason, and nothing else I knew of on the market really seemed like it could be efficient and portable. I kind of forgot about the portability factor for most of winter, as I was indoors and as spring rolled around I saw a video of someone hitting the firewood from a bong on /r/vaporents and saw the price and just had to try it. Looked super similar to the bong rips I get from my UD. I really love this firewood 3 and it meets all the criteria I look for in a vape. I think it can compete with desktops in some areas, especially flavor.

TLDR; Had this thing for about 2 and a half weeks. It really kicks ass.

That's so odd. Mine definiately came smelling of vinegar as confirmed by others. The smell has dissipated a lot, and was never covered up by UD Underbutter, or the little blob of beeswax/MO it came with.

The vinegar smell seems 95% gone , it never really affected vapor quality as far as I could tell, more of a smell than a taste. I did get my 510 silicone drip tip in... Love it. Going to get more drip tips. I finally had a FW session today that didn't tickle or mess with my throat, even though the extra length from the tip is under an inch, still a big help.

I can't recall mine ever smelling of vinegar, or anything except walnut wood.

I recall reading that some types of silicon give off a vinegar smell whilst curing, so perhaps some units come with newer silicone (as in more recently manufactured silicon ) so they are still giving off a smell.

I can say that what I was smelling most likely wasn't walnut. I have a walnut enano, and a bushlore knife with a walnut handle. both have a normal faint woody aroma.

theory: on the second use i believe, i was blowing back into the capsules to get the herbs off the top screen and closer to the heater. i was sogging them out slightly and not realizing it. i bumped the temp higher and higher, and may have gotten the silicone too hot without burning the herbs due to the introduced breath moisture. i didn't even really notice this smell until after that second (realllly harsh) session. i am pretty sure i could combust on 2, sure i could on 3 if i tried with most material now that i am not introducing any breath vapor. i was running at 4 and confused as to why it was so harsh at whispy until i figured out not to introduce breath moisture. maybe this overly hot temp made the silicone inside (is there any outside that metal ring that is outside the heater core?) give off some weird odors? it seems fine now!

EDIT (wild, likely incorrect speculation!): maybe marc switched from CA glue to silicone adhesive? that does give off a vinegar smell sometimes when curing. idk. i just know i wasn't imagining/exaggerating it.

Someone had mentioned dropping a screen into the bottom of the heating chamber. I did it. I really like it.
I can still do it regularly with a capsule. But now I have an option to load it into the heating chamber without that tiny capsule and right up close and personal to the heater.

My buddy combusted a bowl after we took like 4 massive hits each, but I was able to keep it going really hot and loaded pretty full for a half hour of tokes. Then I just passed out. One bowl has not done that to me in a long time. lol

(is there any outside that metal ring that is outside the heater core?)

No silicon outside the heater
There's a bit at the bottom and some plumbers type tape also at the bottom but being before the heater should not get too hot.

If the whole unit heats up from heavy usage, maybe these could smell but never happened on mine (I have the heat bumped up 4 steps and generally use on the highest heat setting)

I posted photos of the heater on Page 85 if you want to see for yourself

I've looked around for information on the firewood 3.0 capsule diameter, but can't seem to find it anywhere.
My son does glass blowing and I'm pretty sure he will have some stock borosilicate tubing in the right diameter and wall thickness to make a capsule by just rounding over the end.

But what is the diameter of that capsule? Thanks.

I use a 14mm M2M adapter on my Firewood 3. Glass isn't always perfect right, so one side slides all the way down completely past the tapered joint and is loose fitting. I could pull a hit from it but it would be a little airy/wispy. The other side fits to the end of the tapered joint and is very snug in the Firewood and provides great hits. Better than using the capsule. I have a screen placed in the Firewood and I can load the stem or right into the Firewood. I prefer to load right into the device because with the stem I tend to have to use higher heat and end up with a darker extraction. Loading the stem also adds air restriction which is another reason I prefer to load the device instead.

I bet your son could hook you up with one of these. The best part is I can use this adapter on my glass at home as well!

Also, some people have asked about bags or carrying cases for the FW3. I use a LowePro camera case I bought from Walmart for about $15. It works great. I used to store the FW3 in it with the capsule caddy and 3 loaded capsules and an orange matches storage tube for material storage. Now that I don't use the capsules and I just received a VapCap I can store my FW3, orange material storage, VapCap, VapCap lighter, glass adapter/stem and a wooden poker(all I have left of my Peace Vaporizer). In the front pocket I can store some screens for in case instances. It's kinda perfect in size, it is padded and this is a big big plus.

Over the Winter I had two glass stems loaded into the caddy, the FW3 loaded with a capsule and I hit a huge snow drift on my board but I was balanced too far forward. I ended up landing on my head/neck/back all while the FW3 was in this bag within a backpack I was wearing. The zipper on the LowePro back actually indented the wood (you can see in the pics) on my Firewood but it still works great. No glass was broken or anything and it was a really bad fall. I had to check if my Go Pro was still on my helmet.

Here's the eye candy:

This end fits snug! I cannot push it in further without possibly damaging the device or the glass which is great cause I get a good seal this way.

This end fits too loose so I don't use it this way. Just showing how the glass joint is completely lost in the device.

Here's my next question. What do you guys prefer. The Grasshopper or The Firewood?

Can't wait to be able to answer that. The latest guess from GHL is this month. Of all my flower vapes, the Firewood has become my favorite. It's reliable, highly effective and gives very good taste. My throat is pretty wimpy but I haven't found a need to modify the FW3 in any way. I think I boosted it by 4.

The contenders (in order of preference):
- Vapman
- Crafty
- ESV
- Pax2
- MFLB

Thank you for your insight and experience. I just need to know because I might cancel my preorder for the Grasshopper.

Hello there!
I'm wondering if any of you know how often firewood gets restocked?
I had one in my cart but it got updated and sold out while ordering:(

He often stocks them in the mornings twice a week. Usually like Monday and thursday/friday mornings. They seem to sell out within 24 hours. If you check around noon every day of the week you should have no problem getting one this week. Then it usually ships within 3-4 days

WOOO! I sent my broken FW in for warranty repair and I think he replaced it completely. The heater is more than optimal without having to change the settings. The wood actually feels finished. The heater air flow is so much better than my other one. I can also feel a difference in the vibrator; it feels lighter and the buzzing is faster where my returned one gave a heavier slower buzz. I think I liked the slow heavy vibration better tho as it was easier to read.

I'm happy to have a FW3 back in my possession again.

Get this. As far as reliability goes, this one seems to be the better and for the price. It does exactly what I want it to. I think the bowl sizes are similar, which seems small, but is still more than someone like me needs.

You will have a week wait at the worse end of the time scale depending on when you order it. That is leagues better than the GH wait.

Just received my new microbubblers from Fasttech. Decided to go for the bulbier ones as they're able to hold more water. Haven't tried 'em out yet - but thought I'd share some pics :)
All in all about 8$ or something, shipping included.
Just attach it to the mp with some short piece of silicone tube and there you go. :)

Hope everyone is enjoying their woods :D
:peace:
