Why is that? You just much prefer the Solo over the Hopper?

No, I think it's dead. Note he said "(until I get a replacement)", to me that says he has a dud and is promised a replacement for it? In a way this is very bad news. GH is set up to be a high volume, low profit (per unit) deal. This can be the kiss of death if you have too many warranty returns. When the margins are so small, the cost of providing a 'free' replacement (including shipping) can wipe out the profit from a pile of good units. I know of places that went broke when their warranty obligations got to a modest level (10% in one case). The company still had all their other costs to cover (labor, facilities, taxes, inventory, etc). Massive layoffs (not an option here) saved the day, but it took us a while to get the burden back down to 5%. You have to produce a LOT of 'better than 5%' units to offset the 'worse than 10% units' produced before. This is why you should do Beta testing and Pilot Runs......unless you know better?

Good luck to them, we need more options in the market, but IMO it's too bad they didn't get an experienced Manufacturing Engineer on board early. Unfortunately, this is an all too common experience, although some/many recover and eventually flourish. Hopefully GH will be in that group, but for now we have proven performers ready off the shelf to ease the wait/anxiety.

Mine works 10% of the time, and those times when it does work, it has a bad taste. So, I've stopped using it. However, the first few times I used it — when it worked and had no bad taste — were amazing. It's a great device when it works.

EDIT: If you want more info on my Hopper woes, check 174-178 of The GH thread.

@ataxian have you used both the PV & EF WT GonG's?

I have the EF and wondered what the difference might be and if there is much of one generally when it comes to a WT GonG for the Solo?
I need to buy more GonG's!
My SOLO I use a dry stem. I have every kind however I use the PHVES the most!
Keep in mind I have a OLD SOLO!

I will order some GonG's from PLANET VAPE!

Just had a SOLO stem of STRAWBERRY COUGH and a STARBUCK'S coffee.

Let me say, "WOW"!

@hashtag4682 This is wierd? I had a PHVES with a chillum tip on level 4 of a new strain I'm trying!

This strain is called :"strawberry cough"!

CANNABIS is the "HOLY GRAIL"!

The SOLO is a very nice device to test various strains of the "HOLY GRAIL"!

I noticed I have yet to post in the Solo thread despite lurking here for years. Figured I would add to the overall goodwill here by adding my own Solo story.

I got my Solo on Black Friday back in 2012 and the unit is still going strong. Had to replace the battery after about a year of daily use but that was pretty easy and cheap. About a year ago I "upgraded" to a Crafty. I love it but it's like an Italian sports car; amazing performance but terrible fuel/battery efficiency and it has to go into the shop on a regular basis if you actually use it.

My Crafty died again at the end of the summer and I was too busy to get it in the mail for a few months and went back to using the Solo as a daily driver. In that time I came to love the little guy again, especially through water. I love the Crafty now that it's back but I'm finding I'm still going back to my Solo more often than I expected. It's so damn reliable, the battery lasts forever, and it uses less bud than the Crafty.

The Solo is like a Japanese sedan, affordable, practical, easy to maintain and can last forever. Despite the Crafty producing better vapor I can't understand why so many vape sites rank it as the top portable to buy. A Ferrari is clearly a better car than a Honda but no car website would recommend one as the best car to buy as the downsides outweigh the benefits for pretty much everyone. I have pushed many friends to the Solo rather than the Crafty and all have been happy. Plus I don't have to deal with "hey that vape you told me to buy died after 3 months" complaints.

The Solo is a rock. When my battery dies again I'll get a PA and use it as a desktop with water while the Crafty (and soon Zion) take on portable duties. Figure it will last about as long as a Honda if the battery isn't being used.

Great post, completely agree, other than the Crafty producing "better vapor". As the owner of both, that is definitely not my experience, and pretty subjective. Maybe try a newer model Solo (you too @ataxian) because the improvement in airflow was a complete game changer for my personally, as a pretty much exclusive gong water tool Solo user.

Crafty and Mighty produce more vapor than the air and solo. They are free flowing when it comes to pulling in air and they have a more powerful heater. That's not to say i don't love my air and solo but when it comes to vapor production the crafty and mighty trump them. I use both everyday and when i really want to get smashed i will grab my mighty , if its a nice relaxing session i go for my air and i have tried the newer models .

Probably because the Crafty and Mighty can fit WAY more than the Solo (or Air). More vapour? Not in my experience....check out my video in this very thread with .05g and .1g....toss that in your Crafty and then come back and tell me it pulls more vapour :brow: I'd say pretty impressive for something that is more efficient and costs a fraction with a long term record of durability.

No they have more powerful heaters and are convection & conduction at the same time. A small amount can be put in them also by placing a screen or liquid pad over the material. Anyway im not going to argue this to the death man , they are both great vapes and i applaud you for mastering the solo and getting great results.

@Hashtag46&2 - just watched that, wow serious whitewall! I find (much like my old mighty) that a little bit of a heat presoak can make a huge difference in whitewalling, and is something I like to do most of the time. However, having little to no presoak is awesome too for more convective hits, and having the ability to remove the Solo from the herb makes this easy!

I recently started using domed screens in the Solo and I used butane torch to put a small taper at the bottom of the bowl of one of my Solo stems. One (or both) of these minor mods has dramatically increased airflow and does produce better vapor than a stock Solo, especially through water. I still maintain that the Crafty produces better vapor with the same amount of bud but it's certainly close now.

I accept your challenge @biohacker. After the family goes to bed tonight I'll use my 0.01g scale to load up 0.10g of Texada Timewarp in each vape and do a quick comparison. Maybe I'll even run the experiment twice, once dry and once with a small bubbler. For science!

I'll report back tonight assuming I'm able to type after 2 loads from each vape in a short period. Though not TOO short of a period as the Crafty needs to cool down between loads. Another win for the Solo which is ready for more when I've hit my ceiling with back to back bowls.

Meh, go for .05g! The Crafty needs to cool down between loads? Boooooooo!!! :ko:
I could buy any expensive vaporizer or more powerful!

The reason I prefer the SOLO is I find the flavor exceptable!
OK the medication is perfect for my needs.

Don't think any of us have the HOLY GRAIL!

CANNABIS is the true essence!

Use whatever vaporizer floats your boat!

The SOLO during the day is my driver.

What you prefer is your deal!

0.05 it is.

Crafty doesn't have to cool down but I'm certain that back to back bowls without a cool down makes it die a bit faster. Also have to let it cool before you charge it.

My solo on the other hand I plug in hot all the time. Sure it's not great for the battery but batteries are cheap and I have an older unit with true pass through so I'm not too concerned. AFAIK plugging it in hot is not going to make the heater fail faster like that other vape.

ok fuck it, @Sasquatch_Jr motivated me so here is 0.025g with about a minute presoak, on max temp. I honestly don't care about the comparisons with the Crafty because I had one and know what it's about.

This is all about the SOLO! Say hello to my little friend!!

:o

Holy VaporBongin Batman

Are you still exhaling??!!
G-Zussss.

For the world is hollow and I have touched the sky
Just vaped a frankenbowl of two different (unknown) strains mixed with a copious amount of kief. The Solo was cranked to 7 the whole time...

Holy endless vapor! :o (Bed time!)

On a different note, I can't wait to get my new D020-D tomorrow! It should be a good match for my Solo. :brow: (@biohacker, your awesome bubbler milk vids are definitely not helping with my impatience! ;))

Only problem is my new PVHEGonG won't be here for about a week... :bang:

...I can improvise...

Great to hear! I'm glad they are appreciated because I make them for you guys, and I was a bit let down in the Air thread when I posted like 3 Air milk vids and only received a couple of likes....much prefer the vibe of this thread, so this is where i'll continue hanging out!

I'm actually super stoked for you because the D020-D was the next glass on my GAS list! I didn't like the d020 because I thought it was just too small for my needs (occasional water in mouth, can wouldn't milk up) but it did mate with the Solo nicely for form factor. I'm thinking the -D will be perfect? I'm quite happy with my WP-010 now with the Solo (didn't like it with other vapes) and I think that may be just a bit bigger than the d020-D?

Did you get a regular gong as well from PV? Or just the PVHEgong? But i'm a complainer when it comes to "too much" airflow and diluted airy hits.

I'm sure most of you have seen me whore this gif around before. Level 7 with a minute heat soak +pv gong

7? - surely no-one uses setting 7 on a Solo, I find even 5 with the WT can leave rather dark looking ABV.

Isn't setting 7 where all the bad stuff is?

@biohacker what are you pre-soaking the herb in? Scanned the posts can't see the wood for the trees, if you've said!
I actually use solo at 7 dry, but only with my vortex stem. It is actually comfortable. I find a big difference in my mighty and solo, as both have their own place. Mighty has made me take quick sessions (with that 1 min timer and vapor leaking), but hits hard and now makes me choke. I never choke on solo even on max temp and can enjoy a nice session without worrying about vibration (I know I can reset the mighty with a click), but it's something psychological.
