Well got my second ascent from gotvape and dead on arrival, it will not charge.
I thought my luck changed but I guess bullshit follows me around, like this BS.
I have to send it back for a exchange.
I did notice the burl unit was built better better air path less leaks.
Either way its going back for a new one, just have to wait a few weeks for new stock.
Hopefully they'll work out the bugs.
Cause this I bugging me lol.
My other ascent (stealth) works great, so far.

Just a update y Burl Wood ascent just started charging it took about 45 minutes to cause the battery indicator light to turn on, so I'm charging it now.
I hope it works good.
It looks good, just a blemish on the LCD screen like my other one.
I can't wait to compare the 2 units. The burl wood again I think has bett seals and less air leakage.
Finicky thing I thought it was toast I even have a rma coming from gotvape, I might still use it depending on how the unit functions.
Ill charge it full then Ill take it through the paces of use and compare my 2 units.
Wish me luck

Cheers medical mark

And shepherds we shall be,for Accuracy & Discovery
I questioned the lack of clouds at mid vapor points (365 to 395) as well as questioned the size of the bowl, and how much bud needed to be put into that bowl to produce vapor.

Dreamerr actually said vapor at 360. I've gone lower than that.

The bowl is big, but what I had been doing was leaving previous ABV in there. (I tried cotton, but it dis-colored from the nug through the cotton airpath, which made me think -- appropriately or not -- that the cotton was grabbing stuff I might otherwise like. Haven't tried glass beads.) I'll stir it, pack it, then sprinkle a small amount/layer on the top, then pack again. I can get a good session off of that (according to one test: 3 tracks in a row off of Power, Corruption, and Lies) with good fresh flavor to start and plenty of visible vapor.

I find the stirring does bring a lot more out. Now... I'm tearing/cutting -- not grinding -- and I'm packing pretty hard (damn fucking hard), so either of those can be a factor. Also, I'm at lower temps than most. But I am extracting more than reason would allow for so little fresh flower on top, so stirring helps.

{EDIT: Fresh on top also ensures more convection with little to no conduction. So, that's a win!}

I know that some people love the size of the bowl. I have a few friends like that. :) But for the rest of us, whether it's cotton, @grokit 's pipestone, or ABV, (or whatever reducer DV is currently working on) there are ways to use a lot less in this device and still have great sessions.

Oh, and the flavor:

I would hope we all agree that medication is the primary goal. Where we differ, might be in the secondary characteristics. Stated before: I am not a cloud chaser. I can get medicated off of this device in the 325+ range with ZERO visible vapor (great for being in the middle of a restaurant as I have done a few times). Clouds are nice when they are there, but I just don't put importance to them if the medication is there. [Cloud flamewar in another thread, please.]

Flavor, however, is something that I've really been relishing. My prev vape was great on flavor. The Ascent is excellent. I am really enjoying the flavor. This is something that the Pax just can not provide. Dreamerr actually admitted flavor was better than her Solo. :) Sticks said it was almost as good as the vap2.0. Other owners of good units have cited the flavor in their posts in this thread.

I just can't believe how many subtleties I can coax out of the varieties (GDP, Romulan, OG, Cherry K, etc) I have been testing -- It harkens back to the days I was doing oenoology training.

If flavor is the "icing" on your vape cake, this portable does a fantastic job.

Hey Nigel,

I know that bowl is huge compared to other vapes for sure.
I've been using a mesch pad I cut to size to fit the bowl on the bottom and the top.
I place the first pad on the bottom and then pack the herb on top, packed nice and tight then I put the second mesch pad no the herb then close the chamber latch.
I use less and still get the tight pack and nice clouds.
My mesch pad on the bottom stays in place even after a session and tapping it out and removing the brick of herb that drops out nicely after it is spent.

Try it I got my mesch pad from the head shop, 2 pads for the valcano/plenty for $7.00 then cut the one to size,4 pieces from one pad.
Works nicely, I'm sure it would work better then cotton and it doesn't cau herb to stick to it either like cotton does.
I'm happy that my burl wood hit is now charging I throut it was DOA but it has risen from the dead and is charging like it should so im excited and happy disappointment was creeping up on me but has left the building.
Also the Burl lWood Ascent is built better then the Stealth, thicker, tighter seals, tighter air path, my wife said it looked longer and wider but its a illusion due to the burl wood finish.

I find the burl wood models buddy rim fits better on my mouth and when blowing through it, it hasa tighter and more sealed air path, my stealth when I blow throu the buddy rim I hear air leaking outleft side some where.
When blowing through the glass straw it the burl wood shows a nice tight air path but whe I do this with my ascent I can hear air coming out throught the rubber seal on top by the glass where you pull it out.
There are QC differences that I noticed but nothing major.

Anyway I used my stealth all day yesterday and then decided to use my pinnacle nd compare, to be honest my throat got irritated compar to the Ascent and the taste wasn't as good compared to the ascent also the bowl lasted half as long.

Just some thoughts guys, cheers medical mark

I don't have one of course, so it's only a guess, but the top looks pretty heavy. Is it flat enough on the bottom so you can open it up and hang it over the edge of the table? That is put the top of the lower section level with and against the top at the edge and let the body keep it upright while you gently dropped the goods in?

Great review, BTW, so surprise there of course/

OF

No the unit doesn't stand open or closed and it is heavy and awkward.

To update, but nigel already said this as it is his unit, I had no detectable smell or odors but I am not opposed to inhaling crap lol. I did look for mystery vape after a few bowls and of course got the stream but it was resin for sure...so no mystery vape on his unit and no foul odors.

Edit for LW....it doesn't matter, at least in my testing, how much herb you put in cause you will get the exact same medication so more is not advised in my testing.

It stands alone closed, just don't blow on it or even think about turning your back on it for just a second if you have a small ht on it with a shortened straight adapter.

The ascent is hot to the touch and not soothing to me at all. It is an improvement over the original because it gets hot at the bottom section that opens which is not my natural place to hold it. It does take a while to cool off IMO.

It is holdable but not at 430. I just don't like it and as you said it is not for this vape the place that is the natural place you hold it anyhow. Again it does take some time to cool off as well. That may matter to some and not to others.

The white is just the background. No issues with restriction.
Judging by the apparent closeness of the white background just under the bowl to the left, it's too damn close to the heat, never mind the lack of restriction. JMO, of course.

So it doesn't stand alone ,
It's just balanced for a moment .

I think ALL portables are meant to be held ,
but easy loading/usage and cleaning/maintenance can be big factors for choosing a vape . jmo

I don't mind DIY mods to help improve the performance of a vape .
But I don't agree with DIY mods , just to get the vape to perform properly .

The 1st version Ascent did not live up to the ' hype ' !
Plus , I can't get pass the ' All Glass Vapor Path ' sales pitch .

Just posted this in the nonsense one but it deserves being mentioned here as well. If you ordered from GV, when it come in DO NOT USE IT if you want a refund. They told me to do the burn off and use it and see. When I called back they said I couldn't return it anymore because I used it. they refused a refund initially and finally they made an exception after I told them they took my money gave me a dangerous unit and have no idea when I will get a new one. I also told them there are members on here who they have done that for as well. They finally agreed after I dropped health violation and unsafe product, ect.

The IBM Selectric had multiple typefaces fonts!

I remember typing when the keys used to stick because I'd hit two keys at once. Then that ball came about, and I was like......WTF? Look at that fucking ball !!!!!!

Oops..............back to the Ascent..............sorry. :uhoh:

Cheers to davinci for trying their best to keep this as painless as possible for those of us that bought direct and are not satisfied for various reasons. I understand that some retailers are inconsistent with their return policies, but hopefully they will start following the example of the manufacturer. They must be under a lot of stress as a company, as there is significant risk when launching a new flagship product and this launch could hardly have had any more problems. But I emailed my RMA request last night and had a reply by midday today with simple non-restrictive return instructions so as I said cheers for that.

I posted this in the nonsense thread originally, but it's not nonsense so I moved it here.

carriage return line feed

I can't believe I actually knew that.

We actually used ibm selectrics for typesetting in hs graphic arts.
If you're a programmer you should know this, as <CR> and <LF> are both characters in the ASCII character set ... and most DOS text files have a CRLF at the end of each line whereas Unix ones have just a LF. (CR = ASCII code 10 decimal or A0 hexadecimal and LF = ASCII code 13 or A3)

Edit: I'm old enough that I took typing in high-school on a typewriter, but the year after I took typing the typewriter's were all junked and typing began being taught on PC's. (maybe that's why I slam so hard on my keys :))

They are pretty much washing their hands of this. They said hold on to the unit until DV says send it to them and then DV will send me a new one. I said I wanted a refund and fought Until they agreed. Now I get to pay to ship it back (BS) and wait for them to issue a refund.

I learned 2 important things though. I will not deal with GotVape.com anymore due to poor customer service and lousy return policy's with defective merchandise.

And I will never be the first to buy a new on the market vape ever again. Only after reviews and solid proof of performance and quality.

That sucks, I've had really positive interactions with GV. I'm not returning my unit for a refund though, after speaking to DV yesterday. They are going to ship out a new charger, and I will get my unit replaced when they start shipping units again. DV told me to use it in the meantime. I'm a Vapnoob so this is my first modern vape, and so far this thing is doing its job very well. I just used a small load and the glass jar and it worked like a champ. Load was small enough to still allow the bowl to swing closed with the jar in place.
