The HI

I was put on the list in June 2012, just got word that my HI is complete. I just need to decide which roasting tube to get. Any recommendations? I currently have a solo with eds wood stem. I'll be using the HI with a 14mm bubbler. So it's between the "u tube" and the 14mm full GoG tube, $10 vs $30. There's just so many options, ss, glass, silicone, and wood bowls.

I was thinking about getting the GoG 14mm and a turbo tube. Or could I do the u tube and add a glass stem for non-water use? The silicone seems nice as it allows you to roll the bowl contents with your fingers to mix and grind.

First of all - congrats on your Hi.

If you've got a 14 mm I would definitely recommend the 14 mm SS Roasting tube. It fits perfectly in a 14 mm female and it is one of my favorites. The U-Tube should be a given, you HAVE to buy it. I fucking love mine, I mean not in a weird way but I love it!'

I'm confused, how do these SS roasting tubes work? There seems to be a slide in and slide over version. I assume the slide in version would be better as herb wouldn't get pushed out as easily when loading (like how the solo stems fit). How do you go about changing screens? Do they unscrew or do you just pop into a grove cut out inside?

This is my first log vape, I've heard you can tweak the screen distance to prevent combustion, how would you go about doing that?

Been getting HI all day today! Also been brainstorming on a battery pack for this thing so it can be somewhat portable. I just love how light weight and small the body is, fits so well with my travel pieces. I can only imagine how streamline the newer ones are, they look tiny!!! Still rockin' the SS tip 18mm Wong as my favorite stem.

Those are just beautiful sundrk!

And in answer to your earlier question about Alan's roasting tubes; they come in all types. Some fit inside the heat port and others fit outside. And screens are easily changed out. On some of the tubes you just push them out and in others, the tip of the tube unscrews and you can remove it then.

As far as adjusting the screen's distance from the heat, that isn't something you can really do in most of Alan's tubes. However, by using the right technique, you can toast the herb much like you do a marshmallow.

I would suggest you start looking at the vids on this thread and check out the different tubes used in them. You'll gain a lot from them. Also, Alan will usually steer you in the right direction; whether you know it or not, lol.

That is so badass! So we can actually purchase a wood blank and have it shipped to Alan to make our HI/tubes?

What's the minimum blank dimensions needed?

Would something like 10 inches long be enough to make 2 vapes or 1 and a couple matching roasting tubes?

I've never been so excited about a vape in my life. These things are works of art!

My blank was 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 5 3/4", i found it sold as a "game call blank". That was enough wood to make 1 HI and 1 bottom cap.

Damn check out this piece of wood right here! would make such a nice HI! That's the same guy I got my wood from, he's based out of Hawaii, not sure if that's where the wood is harvested. Pretty cool that the HI wood came from an island lol.

That guy has some of the most beautiful burls I have ever seen. His stuff is the shit! Have been buying wood from this guy for years. The Amboyna pictured above in the HI is not native to Hawaii, it comes from south east Asia. Danny from Islewoods is a big importer of exotic woods. You cant go wrong with any of his stuff. Oh your gonna pay for his stuff though.

Alan you have done another great job! That HI above is some of the best I have seen yet. Keep it up!

Amboyna Burl is such a beautiful wood. I'm loving my AB HiSaber. Sundrk, you're gonna love yours. When you try your Hi for the first time, make sure you are in fully reclined mode in your reclining chair so you have something to catch you when you fall...

I wonder if it is possible to buy only a turned Heat Island log without the heating core? The Purple Days charring is getting to be a little bit too noticeable and I'd like to transplant it's core into another body to tide me over until I get my HI.

I imagine even the Purple Days core could benefit from the concepts of the Heat Island technology - with the core being surrounded by a blanket of air instead of transferring heat directly to the wood. Of course at that point it wouldn't be a Purple Days anymore - it would be a Purple Island!
