I remember seeing it as well. Honestly though what gives whether or not it's convection or conduction as long as it's not combustion. The vape has already proved its outstanding performance, I'm losing sleep thinking about this damn thing....
For me there's a big difference between convection and conduction. IMO, conduction vapes tend to be smelly herb hogs. The Pax, for instance, uses conduction. While it does a good job, it's smelly and consumes herb like there's no tomorrow. The two major reasons I switched to vaping were health and cutting down consumption. I found the Pax made my lungs feel great, but my wallet? Not so much.

So which portables aren't smelly? You either enclose the bowl, as with pocket portables, or you have a bowl that can reek during use, like the Magic Flight, which can also smell when cold if it needs cleaning. You can cut down on a certain amount of odor by keeping the vape clean, but no matter what model you use, you have vapor smell.

The Pax, for instance, uses conduction.
The Pax is not strictly conduction. Any vape with an enclosed bowl has some conduction going on.

hmmmm:\... I see how the smell could be an issue, but you would still be consuming the same amount of herb regardless how fast it turns into vapor. I'm a newb to vaporizing, and I've never used a portable vaporizer, but I would assume your body would still absorb the same amount of THC, CBD, CBN, and CBC. Actually if I'm not mistaken certain cannabinoids vape at higher temps, which would mean you would be receiving a heavier high. I suggest you measure out the amount of herbs you smoke and see if there is a major difference in your high compared to how many hits you take depending on how fast your herbs are vaping.

Regardless DV already mentioned the Ascent is mostly convection.

Since I'm new to vaporizing, I like the fact it seems the Ascent is capable of producing heavy vapor clouds because I am a fan of smoke (looking forward to changing that). I can't even imagine my wallet hurting in the least bit because I'm used to consuming my bud the most costly way that exists, smoking out of blunt wraps...

The discussion was about convection vs conduction, not portable vs desktop. IMO, conduction vapes tend to be smellier than convection. I don't remember saying that the Pax was "strictly conduction." I believe I said that it "uses conduction." Still, I don't think there's any doubt that the Pax is PRIMARILY a conduction vape. Please don't put words in my mouth. Thanks!

ok im loveing every thing i see about this vape exept one key point, and that is max temp! i have been led to understand CBD has a higher boiling point than thc, ie around 420F, so theres a reason right there to have it go to 430F!!!! if i cant have my CBD, im not buying it end of. so have i been told wrong and CBD will vape just fine at the temps this thing will reach or is it back to the endless search for the perfect portable vape?

I also believe in basing conclusions on measurable facts, however in the case of the Pax the conclusion that it uses more herb than other vapes was arrived at by consensus. Enough people have used it and made the observation to make it a valid conclusion (IMO).

Also one of the reasons people believe that conduction vapes use more herb is based on the continual heating. You would not "still be consuming the same amount of herb" if the load is being heated and the vapor is escaping into the atmosphere when you are not drawing. That is the logic behind the conclusion. Of course this does not apply to all conduction vapes. For example the MFLB is considered to use conduction almost exclusively, but is also known to be very efficient as far as herb usage is concerned.

So it's not just the use of conduction, it is how the vape uses conduction that makes a difference in its efficiency. I think the concern with the Ascent is based on the assumption that it heats the load to the desired temp and keeps heating it until the session is complete. Compare that to the MFLB, which heats the load only when the user activates the battery, and allows the load to cool between draws.

It has a boiling point of 160-180 C/ 320-356 F, so you would be fine except for the fact...
That it is illegal sir! :lmao:Only if you live in Canada though, I think it's a schedule 2 drug there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is still unscheduled in the US.

Also remember what you don't vape you can always make edibles with. Although I don't understand why you would want CBDs from a portable vaporizer, don't they slow you down or is that the CBNs? Anyway, best to keep the energy up when your on the go, save them for later when it's night time.

In the United States Cannabis is a schedule 1 drug just like heroin.

As to CBD, many medical users like CBD due to the fact it helps with pain and inflammation regardless if it makes Them tired or not.

The following was posted up at GC from a claimed DaVinci rep:

"We anticipate the product will be available no later than May 1 through retail locations.....

Does this mean that the March launch date has been pushed back a few notches?

Don't want to get too far off topic, but cannabis/marijuana/hemp is a schedule 1 drug in the U.S., but the individual cannabinoids are not necessarily in the same schedule. THC in the form of Marinol is in schedule III, and I don't believe that CBD is scheduled at all (wait for Sativex...).

Also I've read that CBD itself has no psychoactive effect whatsoever (although it has been attributed with many medicinal properties). It may be CBD's effect (agonist, antagonist?) on THC and the other psychoactive cannabinoids that lead us to believe that it makes one sleepy, or "couch locked". Taken along with THC it might mitigate the psychoactive effects of cannabis, taken before THC it might enhance the psychoactive effects of cannabis. So much still unknown thanks to NIDA...

As far as the Ascent is concerned, I don't think any company would introduce a vaporizer in today's market that does not reach sufficient temps to vaporize all the beneficial compounds in cannabis.

Thank you fogbank, practically took the words out of my mouth. I wasn't talking about cannabis itself, that sir is definitely illegal!

IMO that means the manufacturer will have it exclusively first and then the retail locations later. That's what I would do if it were my baby. :)

Does anyone know if theyre releasing the carbon fiber one? If so is it gunna cost extra? Im big into cars so a carbon fiber vape would be a dream come true. As it is the ascent itself is a dream cone true!

The crosshatched Black is their "carbon fiber" version I believe, as the filename of the photo on their website is as follows: angled_carbon2__21249.1362101321.1280.1280.png

Not me....I fantasize about the ascent vaporizer, and btw, my wife is hot too!. the Ascent is sooo sexy...I like her curves and her hot digital display, I can't wait to swing that herb door open and fill her box. and after looking at Lee's design in the Ascent contest thread, i can visualize just how my water tool would fit perfectly on top of her. OHH, Ascent you sexy beast!!!!

Regarding the release date, due to some last minute changes and adjustments (nothing major we're waiting on some materials to come in) the release date has been pushed back a little. I anticipate 2 weeks, 3 at the very very most. March 31 was my...if everything goes absolutely perfect date, hence I wouldn't give a hard sale date, nor offer a pre-sale. I just know better, and I'm sure you guys do too.

Sorry if you guys see my over zealous rep in any other forums- most accurate info will always be here :)

Unfortunately, this is the only forum that I have time to personally manage, so hopefully you feel just a little special.
