I've been using a coffee grinder and I like the consistency of the grind, but A LOT of kief accumulates on the lid and the sides of the cup. I scrape it off and add the kief back to the grind but it's kind of a pita. It's pretty much impossible to reclaim all of the kief, especially the stuff that gets trapped in the little crevices. Another thing is that I need to grind a decent amount of herb in order to get a usable load. If I want to grind just a trench's worth, it's pretty pointless to use the coffee grinder.

This is exactly why I've never done it, and why I decided to try the finishing grinder.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on getting the finishing grinder; seems like a nifty little thing to have. That and I can't stand having an incomplete collection of LB accessories. :)

I've really grown to love my finishing grinder. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and this grinder is easier for me to use because of its unique design. :)

No, I've never wanted to use a coffee grinder because I feel like it's too harsh on my buds.

Now that's just plain silly. How do you know they don't (secretly) like it rough?

I grind by buds a gram or two at a time in a coffee blender and they reward me for the efforts. They seem very happy, and do their best to make me happy in return.

When it's nearly dry enough I put it up in one dram vials, each with .120 to .130 grams. My 'standard trench'. Using a small scoop and funnel with the 'tare' function on the scale doesn't take long at all really. Really handy when it comes times time to get on with business.....

The vials are basically the same size as the battery, I put two batteries and two vials in a four battery storage box......

I guess I'll never know now that I have the finishing grinder. :)

Don't be afraid of trying something new......

Maybe the bud is just too shy to ask for it?

Edit: As long as we're on the general subject of grinding, I bought one of these guys (at least I think it's the same...):

I'm not sure I'd recommend it for routine use, but it too is fun for a time to time thing. Does a good job on even very small amounts. OF

Hey OF,

Quick question for you if you don't mind but I'm looking at getting some of those 1 dram glass vials but specialtybottle will not ship to New Zealand so I've had a look around and come across this.

http://www.arthurholmes.co.nz/product_info.php?cPath=1177_1111&products_id=2500

I'm obviously looking at getting something as close to the size of a double AA battery so I can store it in the packs. Do you think this will be acceptable? and if not where can I get a glass vial that is the same size as an AA battery?

Thanks.

I do not think that will fit.
These Tubes are the closest to a battery size I have seen.. but you would have to FORCE the battery in and it would be hard to remove.
These Battery cases are dead cheap.... and come in two battery size and 4 battery size

Yes, that looks like the metric measurement version of the standard one dram vial, it should work fine. The only 'rub' is some are a little more narrow in the neck than others but that just means a bit more shaking to get the good out, no big deal.

Also find yourself a small plastic funnel that fits the neck and cut it off short. I had to file mine a little to get it to fit well, which turns out to be a plus in that it stays put well. I also use a small bamboo skewer to poke it down the funnel. Easy to do. I put the vial on the scale and 'tare it' to zero (shows only herb weight then). Take it off, add a scoop of ground herb through the funnel and poke it through and check the weight. It's easy to shake a tiny bit out or add a bit more to get it 'in range'.

No need to be that exacting of course, but I like knowing each vial has the 'right' load.

Good luck, enjoy.

Oh, Big Wise Guy, I agree. The idea is to put the ground herb in, not the battery. I use those very cases to hold two batteries and two one dram vials with loads in them (at least going out....).

I use mine from time to time. Only problem is the glass, blades and metal get coated in kief. I prefer keeping my trichomes. I find it does affect potency if you don't mix that kief back in.

edit: OF I like your stash technique. I think I'll do the same with the small battery case. Load a trench and battery in the LB, store a second of each in the case.

I gotcha now!
I get these from "Buyincoins" for 87¢ to 94¢ free shipping
Waterproof of course, and light eliminating.

Yup, got a couple of 'em myself (thanks to brother SC in fact), but mine are a bit too big to fit in a slot in a battery case so they get used elsewhere.

Impressive seals, probably solid to a reasonable depth in water? Just the ticket for scuba divers.....

Time for an inspirational testimonial.

Just got my launch box earlier this week as my first ever vaporizer. I was a daily smoker, so the benefit to my lungs has been immediately apparent. The amazing part is that after two days of vaping exclusively, I realized I was no longer getting the small migraines I used to get from smoking. I had always thought the headaches were just an unfortunate and unavoidable reaction that my body had to THC. Turns out, it was the combustion all along. Incredible.

A note of thanks to FC and everyone here for being a great resource while I was researching my first vape purchase. I could not be more satisfied.

Any thoughts on a good place to find a small scoop and funnel? I've looked around for something the right size but haven't had any success.

I've got a few very similar to those. I'd carry them on my keys if my keychain wasn't already so overloaded.

How many trenches does one of those hold? By the looks I think I could probably pack it down and fit two trenches in one container but what do you get? I just found them on that website and I think I'm gonna order 2. :D 4 packs and 4 batts sound awesome!

I have a very similar little vial that I have posted before. With my preferred (powdered) grinding consistency, I can easily fit 2 trenches up to the rails if not more. I actually haven't tried to see how much I can fill in it, reason being that I like leaving a bit of air space at the top so that it comes out easier. I know for sure that I can fit .9 in it, that was the last amount that I was able to weigh out. This is my consistency http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-magic-flight-box.750/page-703#post-261074

Howdy, welcome and congratulations in any old order you'd like.

Great news to hear you're off blazing and reaping the benefits of a more intelligent and safer (not to mention less wasteful) way of using your precious bud. In almost no time you'll notice your weed bill go down (or the strain quality you get go up.....or both). I'll pay for that little box in no time.

I happened to have the scoop I use before. It's labeled '1.6 cc'. As a guess if you rig a handle on one of the vial caps with a larger paper clip and some tape, two cap fulls will be about right? Or maybe tape a popsickle stick of bamboo skewer on for a handle? Real pros might use a little epoxy when nobody is looking. This is the funnel I use, I bought several, and like I said chopped one off short and filed it a bit to fit. The vial wedges on the stem and hangs on just fine, I've yet to have one fall off while messing with it:
http://www.tapplastics.com/product/...lass_tools_supplies/polypropylene_funnels/203

Those are tough poly funnels, BTW. The laugh off most chemicals, it's the same material acid and solvent dispenser bottles are made from.

While the vials I use will also easily hold more bud, I really like the idea of premeasured loads. Just take the cap off and shake the contents out. Sometimes it takes a tap or two to get it all if it 'bridges'. I carry the loaded box and charged battery in a small camera case with the four battery case (two more loads, two more batteries) in the bottom. 3 guaranteed trenches on demand, plenty for my needs for most things. This is the case:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HNF01O/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00

I really like this case, I use several to store vapes in (Iolite, Omicrons and carts, DV and so on). I even store cameras in a couple..... Tough, cheap, well padded, handy.

Giday mate and welcome to the forum, this place is a great wealth of knowledge. As for the scoop you speak of, I use a scoop I acquired from a single serve ice cream tub I bought. It's a little plastic scoop that comes with a European brand of Ice cream available here in Australia, not sure if you have the same brand available in the US but surely you must have something similar. The one I have has Movenpick written on it, must have been the brand of Ice cream. Anyway it works perfectly.

Wee, back in business!! Went to the collective earlier, got an extra gram free on top of the already 4 gram standard, got .62 of bubble hash as well! Finally something to give me the extra kick. I'll report back in a bit with how well the bubble hash worked out for me, it's really really dry, like brown sugar that got splashed with a bit of water and solidified :freak:

(anyone know where the "my stash" thread went? can't find it...)

The thread you two are looking for is here.

Now, let's get back to talking about the MFLB. ;)

I'm moving and I've been spending a lot of time going back and forth between houses and dealing with contractors lately. Not much time home with my desktop units. So my LB has had a lot of use lately. It's been fun reacquainting myself with it and it's been so handy since it's so stealthy. I can just duck into another room or around the corner of the yard and hit it real quick when I get a chance. I'm really digging it.

I like your approach. I've got a couple of those vials on the way, and I can definitely understand the allure of pre-measuring trenches.

When it comes to looking for simple supplies like this, I really can't wait for 3D printing technology to take off more. No reason I can't get a little scoop and funnel custom printed, am I right? I can dream...

Fun kinda stuff to think about for sure. And who's to say what life will be like in the near future. Consider the fools who suggested we'd have cordless phones, the internet and digital cameras not long after we got over that 'men in space' fantasy thing. Half the stuff Dick Tracy ever amazed us with is old hat, as is half the stuff in the real Batman's "Bat Utility Belt".

One of our 'running lunchtime discussions' is distributed manufacture of just such stuff. A neighborhood shop, like a dry cleaners say, or Kinkos that keeps the machine to not only produce funnels with your name on it, but reproduce the exact same part that TV might make on their similar machines using the same 'code'. Or a 'funny' car part. Or house keys. Like the traveling trucks that custom bend tailpipes for muffler shops rather than storing huge supplies in each shop, or the trailers that custom make rain gutters on site. Or one friends pet project from years back, a truck that makes Styrofoam ice boxes at each store. It seems the shipping and handling is the major cost, a pickup truck can carry the material for thousands of units......

Hey guys I'm really confused right now, my mflb would not stop vaporizing earlier today. I was using a fully charged powerex 2700 battery(This was either my first or second time using it since I got it. The batterys outside plastic wrapper has been removed, all the glue as well, and the little sticky circular cover on the top of the battery also was removed.) I hit the mflb once with no problems. Then I go to hit it again, a nice slow 10 second draw. I release pressure on the mflb and put it down. As I go to put it away I notice the chamber fogging up... I hit it real quick, take the battery out(thought maybe it was still applying pressure), but its hot and it keeps coming. i cant stop the vapor. I dump the weed out, and I proceed to tap the side of it(with the battery hole facing downwards). It eventually stopped after 5-10 seconds of removing the weed.
I'm super confused, has anyone ever had their mflb continue to vape even after removing the battery?

review on the finishing grinder.
It is a neat little thing... While it was 40 dollars it seemed to be very effective, deliver a good even consisten taste, and flipping the trench was easier.

I guess its worth it if you have the extra cash. I dont have regrets

This stuff is ground extremely fine and it is easy to use. no mess. I am not sure if it can be used as a primary grinder though, I am not sure about how much of a pain in the ass it would be. I will report back about that.

But it is definitley nice for putting it directly over the mflb
