While cleaning the Pax everyday or everyweek might keep it smelling clean, it will only prevent your mouthpiece "sticking" if the little ring on your mouthpiece gets resin-y.

I have figured out the catch and release mechanism of the Pax! If you study the profile of the mouthpiece stem you can figure it out too, it starts in the fully open position:
Uc86D.jpg

Next, we close it and the ring slides up:
GWjSU.jpg

That space is the wiggle room you feel when it's closed, when you push it down you hear a click:
w8rDV.jpg

And this is the part where your ring needs to slide (if it sticks it goes back to pic #2):
DwNLi.jpg

The hook pulls the ring down, glides over the crack, and stops at the fully open notch:
Uc86D.jpg

So basically, if that ring moves freely your Pax should always click up. That area doesn't get resin-y at all, and I run my Pax all day long, and don't clean it. I'm really stumped at how you guys are gumming that area up... unless maybe there is a crack between the metal and the plastic on some and it seeps down?
Hmmm... :ninja:

Awesome pictures. I was kinda trying to describe it earlier but pictures are worth a thousand words.

It makes a tight seal when I blow into or suck out of my mouth piece when I block the hole on the other side so I don't think that's it. I could see that ring area collecting dirty iso if your sloppy when you cleaning or using too much iso because of the tight gap and such. Once that iso evaporates, it could leave resin behind causing the sticking, perhaps. I haven't used the wipes they gave me, but rather using iso from a bottle and perhaps using it too generously.

Funny story... The temp change button got stuck so they had to use it on medium.. Believe me I know the power of the high setting
My temp button got a bit stiff the other day too. I just used a little knife and stuck into the sides of the button to wiggle it around a bit. Worked like a charm!

my arizer tool does not fit in my oven either.. anyone looking for a good packing tool, I found this nifty bent piece of metal selling as a "vape tool" http://vapetool.com also on amazon well anyway fits the oven well, my pax, the dual sided container someone recommend on the thermovape forum, herb on one side, a small brush from that crap atmos raw kit, packing tool on the other fits so well in my sunglasses case, perfect out and about combo.
Feel bad about the recommend guys. As soon as I have my Pax back I'm shooting a pic to show the killer fit, just so you know I've not gone nuts.

I have one of these gizmos in the car to charge laptop or whatever so I assume it would work with the Pax too:

http://www.amazon.com/DBTech-Portab...345991129&sr=8-11&keywords=car+power+inverter

Also tried charging with charger on top as suggested in this thread to avoid resin dripping to mouthpiece. Works swimmingly :D Great tip!!

Hurricane en route... 2 Pax's charged and ready to go. Still thankful for my LB's and ton of charged battys in case of prolonged power outage though.

Hey all!
First time poster here, but I've been following on and off for a while on the forums. I'm really interested in the Pax here, but I've got a few questions before I go and drop $250 on it. If anyone could answer these and/or let me know where in the forums they have already been answered, it would be greatly appreciated:

1) What is the average battery life like? (ie how many bowls per charge?)
2) How easy/ difficult is the cleaning process and how often will it need to be cleaned? (I am a "resinphobic" so I try my best to keep all my pieces looking brand new)
3) Does it ever become to hot to hold in the hands when using?

Thanks!

1. Depends on length of session but figure on roughly 8-10
2. Pretty simple. You sound like a good Pax candidate if you like to keep your shit clean!
3. Warm yes. Hot no.

I've been reading about an hour or so of use time per charge, the website says 2, so I guess if you keep in on low, and turn it off after a couple of pulls, you might be able to stretch your battery life, and I also wonder if they calculated the 2 hours based on using tobacco instead of herb. I don't use tobacco so I have no point of reference as to how long it takes to fully vaporize it. Even a hour of use time is good compared to most other portables that I have tried. I don't have one in my hands, just going by what I have been reading on the forum, and from the video reviews. Lots of good ones on youtube by Slightly Medicated, you should give those a watch...

Here is a question, is there a specific kind of pipe cleaner I should get to maintenance the PAX, and is there any way to reclaim with this unit? I am not too bent on reclaiming, but any time I can, I like to save that sweet honey.

I use soft cleaners like the ones that come with the cleaning kit, http://www.amazon.com/Bundles-Zen-P...8&qid=1346018302&sr=8-3&keywords=pipe+cleaner there are also same brand that have hard bristles, I use those sometimes too. I don't know about reclaiming, I guess you could dab the pipecleaner in iso?

so do you clean these with dry pipe cleaners, maybe while it's still warm? I would think the residue would be sticky if you let it cool and not want to wipe away easily.

l have cleaned cool and warm after a session, wet with iso pipe cleaner on one and, the other end dries. It's a pretty slippery ss air path, pipe cleaners get it shiny.

ok, so it should be safe to lightly wet the pipe cleaner with Iso and run that through, assuming care is taken not to over saturate it? Follow with a dry pipe cleaner maybe?

 I am so happy I found the blue one for sale on the Ploom site, I would prefer the purple, but not if I have to wait 2 weeks for it. I was thinking I was stuck waiting for the Sept 10 release to be able to get one at all. Very excited about this one, it just seems to fit most of my expectation/requirements from a portable, after trying so many others, from what I could see in the video reviews. Thanks Slightly Medicated, for putting out so many good vids of it!!

Your most welcome jamband... I will be getting back in to the swing of things soon. I have been delaying making videos because I am working on a charity project for a local AIDS Care House. It has taken some of my energy away from my videos/blog. I am hoping to finish that up this coming week.

I am pretty sure you will like your unit. The blue is still ridiculously pretty. All the colors are so appealing.

Hello, I've been following this thread for a while and have been the owner of a Pax for about three weeks now.

I began my experience, like seemingly many here, with a few issues. With trial and effort most were resolved, and after contacting Ploom's customer support, two free mouthpieces were sent to me to replace a faulty mouthpiece, my final issue.

The new piece just arrived in the mail today, and after a thorough cleaning of the Pax, it is a pleasure to enjoy at its fullest.

It gets me exceptionally medicated, and it is incredibly portable and convenient. My friends friends that have tried it have loved it, and a few have already reported back to me that they tried, but it was sold out. I also just want to mention that the vapor clouds on the highest heat are formidable. I have an Arizer Q4 that I have been using for years, and have partaken in many smoking/vaping devices. I can't say I would choose to hit the Pax over a Volcano, or a 700$ bong, but the Pax is incredible for what is, and I believe with proper care, and such an excellent warranty, it will last for years of smoking.

Some final points;

The customer service was fantastic.

I prefer to tightly pack a full bowl - what I usually do is carry ground up herb in a square vial, and tap it into the chamber. I use my pinky to push it down, which fits perfectly. I see no tool as being necessary.

I do cough like mad with this. I cough like crazy with the Arizer as well. I don't know why, I almost exclusively vape, and yet it makes me cough so hard! Far more than when I smoke. I would love to hear some insight into this.

I have used this device about 5 times a day, and cleaning wise, every 3 days with iso and about 15 minutes cleaning time keeps things running well for me. I suppose this is a bit inconvenient, but it's not so bad, and at least right now it's sort of like taking care of something I'm proud of, like examining a dank nugget.

Usually, I start the device at high. I get thick, full hits, for quite a while with a fully packed bowl. I neither find the taste of the vapor offensive, nor pleasurable.

When I need to clear the chamber out, a simple tap suffices, and it is ready to start again.

My battery seems to accommodate six or seven sessions. These I have not timed, but they are with fully packed bowls exclusively. I would imagine the functional time to be around one hour, and the charging time the same.

The Pax is an incredible device that has my complete recommendation. I appreciate the posters on this forum and the knowledge contained here, many thanks.

my new cobalt Pax is supposed to be here wednesday.... very excited! once i get it i'm going to mod the battery in my current one, found some panasonic 3100mAh batteries with solder tabs already spot welded to the batteries, so it should be quite easy to solder it into the Pax :)

if all goes well i might consider buying one of the newer 3400mAh panasonic batteries, however i'm quite wary about soldering directly to a li-ion battery.

My button that changes the temperature is stuck. I think I messed it up with a pipe cleaner while attempting to clean out the main passage way.

I know others have had this issue but I do not know how to fix it. :/

whatever you do don't press it in too hard, seen someone on this forum who actually pushed it into the device. take a knife/razor and scrape around the button gently, also slowly try to press the button over and over, eventually it will come unstuck.

in the future try not to get any iso alcohol on the button, that's what seems to cause the sticking.

Great overview.
Again, using my pax for a few weeks and I absolutely love it. So glad I went with the Pax

I have a couple comments:

My friend got his Pax a week or so ago, well yesterday was the first we got together and decided to load each pax up with some different herb, and pass them back and forth. I noticed with his, it draws a lot easier than mine. (think like this: mine hits like a very tightly rolled blunt or very thick milkshake, his hits like a looser blunt or slurpie/slushy) tried his oven lid on my Pax and what do you know, mine hits easier. So maybe for some of us who said it was hard to draw on, the answer is a different oven lid? I could understand how fractions of a millimeter can make a difference. To explain more: visually there is no noticeable difference between the two doors, but mine 'seals' the oven a little tighter and his a little looser, allowing small amounts of air in where the door 'seals' off the oven.

So we came up with this, crack the oven door very slightly by rocking it to one side, this allows just a little bit more fresh air in for an easier hit and then close it back up. I'm talking 1mm or so, just so one side of the bottom is just slightly higher than the bottom of the pax, like this.

762DD9FC-6845-4572-99BA-5ACE8751C11D-451-00000013DEB22837.jpg

That is how my friend's oven door makes the PAX feel like to me.

So I am going to contact Ploom and see if they will send me over a new lid, otherwise I'm going to buy one just to see of there is a difference.

But who's is correct...mine with the very restrictive draw or his with a more 'free flowing' hit? Dont get me wrong, mine is perfectly fine, I am not complaining at all, I get very medicated with this thing I just prefer the easier draw.

i have also noticed that if i tilt the oven lid slightly the draw is easier, and if i want a harder draw i would push the oven lid in as flat as possible
