How bad does it smell when packed full and vaping? About how much of a buffer zone will I need between me and others to remain stealth, about 10 feet or so?
I am interested in this too :)

It depends on what you want. If you want something stealthy, something you could hide in plain view and wouldn't draw a second glance, onyx for sure. If you want some cool looking, but might be too cool looking and might draw some unwanted attention or questions, go with the cobalt.

I have an onyx one and it gets lost just sitting on my coffee table, sitting beside my cell phone and remotes etc. I admit, the cobalt is beautiful but if it was sitting in the exact same spot on my table, it would stand out like a sore thumb. It'd be something you want to pick up and look at. Plus, the early availability of the onyx pax didn't help convince me to get the cobalt one either.
Thanks for this input "Dammit" :) For the factor of stealth as you described, I'll definitely be going for the Onyx! Thanks for helping me arrive at this decision!

The Pax does smell a bit when warmed up, so I'm thinking 10 ft may not be enough depending on surrounding conditions.

I agree. I've experience all-of-the-above "problems" with my pax as well, but all were solved by either trial and error, a good cleaning, or just resolved itself. This thing has it's "charms" if you will, but I love it nonetheless. I haven't regretted buying this thing one single second since I've owned it, and I'm a cheap sonofabitch that's currently "under employed" :smug:
that's what i'm saying, honestly call me crazy but i'm pretty sure i'm going to buy another one and mod the first one i bought :D i love the device so much i don't want to mod it with the risk that i won't have another one handy to calm me down if i fuck up the first one somehow, which i highly doubt is going to happen anyway, however i want to have one with the warranty :)

I am a happy owner of an Onyx Pax, but unhappy because I can't use it, my living conditions are not ideal for using it, currently living with my girls mom and she has no Idea I smoke, Damn, it just sits in the box fully charged and I look at her every day hoping I can enjoy it, Used it once and found out that while heating it smells enough for someone to notice, not only that the smell stays after the oven is emptied, I had to clean it on the first use and throw it back in the box so as to not cause suspicion, man it sucks, so I just take a peek at her every day...yes her and she has a name...Black Beauty...:\

I have some Sour D, don't know if you ever had it but it has an odor that can travel 3 houses down if I open the bag out the window, seriously, had a bud in a friends apartment back in NYC and his whole apartment reeked, smells worse when lit, if I had some mids then maybe I would try, but all I get is grade A...oh and the other bag I have is tangerine:worms: ...I won't even go there.

Okay, I'm pretty much sure I solved the case of the sticking mouth pieces. If your mouth piece is sticking, give your pax a LIGHT shake. Do you hear a little rattle? If not, it means that that little ring on your mouth piece that is supposed to be free floating is all gummed up and that's why it's not releasing. Keep pressing on your mouth piece ridiculously slow until it pops up, and then clean or mouth piece really well, soaking it in iso is easiest. I guess previously when cleaning it, I might dab a bit on iso on the ring and that would work for a bit, but unless you clean all that iso off, it'll probably just evaporate without taking away the gunk. I noticed the ring moving really slow but smoothly, like the mouth piece when it's acting up. Now it's as good as new!

I'm starting to think that it has nothing to do with the spring anymore, but all about that free floating part of the mouth piece. If you pull your mouth piece out and look at it, I'm thinking the two notches is where the metal clip catches the mouth piece and turns it on and off. In order for it to function properly, that free floating piece has to be able to move easily and when it's gummed up, it won't open easily. I also think that is why pressing on the mouth piece ridiculously slow to open it works better than pressing it really fast. Your giving the ring a chance to move when it's all gummed that way.

So that little rattle your pax makes when you shake it means it's clean. If you have to shake your pax hard to hear a rattle, soak your mouth piece in some iso and you're golden!

Edit: I wouldn't want to put anything in my pax that could give off toxic fumes. Besides, it could wipe your warranty good bye if you use anything besides soap and water, and iso in your pax.

My pax arrived this week - I turned it on once when I first unpacked it, then pushed the mouthpiece back in, and it got stuck and wouldn't open again. I could hear the little rattle described above, and tried pressing on it super slowly a million times, but still couldn't ever get the mouthpiece to pop out again. Never even got to try it out! Waiting on the replacement from Ploom and hoping for better luck.

Wow I'm sorry to hear about that DweezilWad (also, it that name a ref to Dweezil Zappa?)

I hope Ploom takes care of you... I'm sure they will and all; but wow, that sucks. I don't think I would have been able to deal with that in a calm and rational manner, not even getting to try it...

make sure you're pushing down on the side the mouthpiece enters the device on, the motion seems much smoother when you open it this way.

on another note, just pulled the trigger on my second pax. got a cobalt one on the way :D

....I did, as I stated in earlier posts on this thread...and my experience mirror's dammit's....it took care of itself....sometimes after inhaling the mouthpiece gets studk and won't stay down....if I leave it for just a few seconds untouched....it ALWAYS corrects itself...

turk,

Combustion free since '09
So far I've only had the mouthpiece seem sticky once and it was fine after a cleaning. My temp button that was stuck also fixed itself. I'm damn pleased with this and how nicely Ploom was about sending me a prepaid label to return when I thought I had to send it in. So pleased.... I ordered a 2nd one lolol and my husband just put the box on my desk :D Oh happy day!

The sticking is from the almost air tight fitting of the mouthpiece onto the air-path, that gets gummed up from the build-up on the inside of the mouthpiece. The ring is out of the air-path and shouldn't be getting gummed up.

Has anyone tried a bowl of 100% hash yet? I'm expecting big things...
:spliff:

Enough battery swaps and battery-powered chargers, today I'm going back to pictures!

OicIE.jpg

mmm hash plant hash
cZLGo.jpg

ELaWY.jpg

a full bowl
LpXmF.jpg

Turned out to be very sticky, taste was typical hash taste (pretty earthy)
sWkrH.jpg

It was oily but dumped easily enough
ATfWH.jpg

8TIXq.jpg

It didn't crumble like I thought it would, so it probably has lots of thc still in there
7B2MT.jpg

Reloaded for round 2!
bb2Jy.jpg

Didn't dump out so easily this time
lbqqH.jpg

JXoKX.jpg

The plate got a bit dirty but not too bad for how resiny it was!
LTWgG.jpg

But instead of cleaning the Pax (because I rarely do) let's try a herbal remedy
ExAa9.jpg

This should get the hash taste out nicely
DKMOY.jpg

Zoom In, this is a nice one!
4tyDH.jpg

Taste was almost as good as flower! much better than the hash
fAOf6.jpg

Abv is milk chocolate, ignore the hair, that came after I dumped the bowl lol
t1KEg.jpg

And still the Pax can be cleaned with a paperclip/toothpick/etc.

Let's see a convection vape do that
