Yeah, my mouth piece got stuck for a little bit yesterday after a cleaning. I started to panic and kept pushing it down like a mad man, getting nowhere. Somehow I got it up, probably from pushing down really slowly, and gave the outside of the tunnel, around the tube inside the pax a swab of iso and let it heat up for about a minute. It's been going fine since. I've noticed every time I take the mouth piece out, you can see some resin at the bottom of the tube. I just give it a wipe on a tissue before I put it back now to try to prevent it from getting gummed up and messy around the temp button too.

Yes, my mouthpiece has been acting slow lately. When it's warmed up during a session, it behaves fine. But when it's cold, the mouthpiece action is as if it's slowed by resin. I clean it often and this just started happening. Otherwise, I still love this effing thing. Very much. Muchly much.

I'll dab a bit of ISO around the steel tunnel vapor path thingy...

On the sticking mouthpiece issue... Do you think it's something that Ploom could fix just by sending out new mouthpieces or is it a bigger issue than that?

I think it's just some resin getting outside of the tunnel and into the clip/spring area. Moisten a pipe cleaner with iso and swab around the outside of the tunnel worked for me. Don't use too much iso though, just in case it gets on the temp button or something.

If it's resin I have a question, did the people with sticky mouthpieces ever hit the Pax closed on the cooldown? I think that might be possibility...

But I'm not so sure it is resin, that spring is pretty strong... and all I ever get is light yellow oily resin...

No, I haven't closed it while cool down.

It could be just as simple as what everyone is vaporizing at the moment. I know what I've got isn't the best and might have more resin. I'm pretty sure my material's plenty dry. I even occasionally hear some sizzling going on in the oven. I don't know about you guys, but the bottom of my oven and screen don't look the best, even after a good cleaning. Performance isn't impaired or anything, but definitely not as pretty as the rest of the pax. The pax has it's little quirks, but I WILL strangle a bitch if they try and take it from me!

My mouth piece was getting stuck after about a dozen oven loads with no cleaning. I soaked the mouthpiece in ISO and cleaned in and around the vapor path and problem solved.

So far I've used this thing for my portable needs (probably about 5-10 bowls a day in the Pax) for a week. And I gotta say ... my love for this thing only grows :). I've had none of the issues other people have had but I'm really obsessive about my cleaning and also after the first day or two settled on the fact that I just like to leave it on high and I start hitting it before it gets fully heated (30 sec after turning on) so the only time I ever remove the mouthpiece is when I'm about to stick it in some 99% ISO for a cleaning. I clean in and around the SS tube with a pipe cleaner wiped with ISO that was first applied to a paper towel (so as to ensure there's not too much) and clean the oven with a cue tip with ISO. (Soak the "screen" in ISO but it sure does stain that little screen :)).

No problems with it whatsoever. Works like a charm. Easy to keep clean between sessions as I just carry around a little MFLB brush (I ordered a bunch of those a while back as I like brushing out my Solo bowls after use too ... also brush out my Cloud elb's after use). I also find wiping out the oven and oven lid with a paper towel works wonders to keep it extra clean between sessions. I've cleaned it every 1-2 days of use. ... so probably on avg every 10 sessions or so.

We were hosting a party at my cottage on Sat night and I was almost done my chamber usually by the time anyone even noticed that I was medicating (smokers around the campfire, so it wasn't real obvious, but still). I just kept it pre-packed, and pulled it out of my pocket and started using it whenever I felt the need. Clicked it shut, dumped/brushed it out, and put it back in my dime bag after use. The convenience of this is outstanding. Being able to hold it in your pocket discretely between hits. No fuss/bother to take it out and start using. No fuss/bother to empty (relative to other vapes in my experience).

Again ... big time thumbs up for this device. It's what I've really been after in a portable ... discrete, relatively efficient, pleasant to use, easy to maintain, etc.

Pax has a 10 year warranty on these as well, so I'm assuming any issues they are having they are going to either fix or they're "somewhat" isolated ... the issues people are having are after all covered issues so it's a pain ... but I guess that's the cost of being an early adopter. I'm not getting rid of my Solo as I figure a backup portable is a definite requirement (If I had to send it in for service, I can't very well be without my portable for 1-2 weeks living in the middle of nowhere like I do!)

Edit: Oh yeah ... just as a side note ... they don't seem (from prior posts) that hard to open up either so "self mainenance/repair" might be an option to solve many of these issues (if you're mouthpiece gets really stuck could you not take it apart to "unstick" it? Would Ploom maybe walk someone through this repair so as to avoid costs and avoid the customer being without their device?) ... just some thoughts. I don't know if one could solve the button issue by taking it apart ... that might end up requiring a different material that's more ISO resistant to be used for the button as ISO has to get pretty close to that button in order to clean/maintain the vapor path.

It should NOT be this difficult to find good photos of the cobalt pax that accurately show its color.
-_- I emailed ploom about this, and their color inconsistencies in their ads.

I can't believe how difficult this is to find on the internet..........

x_x is there no one who could photo their cobalt pax here?
Hey, been lurking since June when I read SliM's preview and pre-ordered my Cobalt Pax :)

Arrived last week, loving it. My friend has a Volcano and turned me onto vaping, but the Pax is my first vape. Price and portability make it a much better option for me.

Anyways, here's a crappy iPhone pic next to your standard brown Bic lighter. Not very high quality, but should give you an idea about what it looks like in "real-life". I am very happy with everything, including the color. In the light it looks very blue, under darker circumstances it looks a little more purple. Hope this helps.

Hey all, glad to see that most fellow fc'ers are getting proper performance out of the Pax. I have a huge
bug up my bum since there has been no response to my dead unit from Ploom. I expect this lack of
communication from the Atmos and Stealth people, but not Ploom. I have sent 3 messages, and even
taken into consideration that my concerns were voiced over a weekend. So, its not the weekend now, and
I am out $250 with no one to cry to but you all. Dammit!!! I loved the performance on the 2 sessions I got
out of the Pax. I have tried shaking it, cursing it, turning it on the side on the charger. Shit and shove me
in it, what a big pain in the ass!!!!! Wake the fuck up, Ploom. Right now Ploom can suck a giant monkey
wang for not dropping everything and making me happy!!!!FUCK!My glaucoma is flaring like a pack of hemroids.....fuck the spelling!!!!

I love the cobalt blue, it looks so cool JUST FUCKING SITTING THERE!!!!ARGGHHHHH

mephisto,
Do people favorably compare the PAx to the ThermoVape?

I love my TV Dart, but when it comes to vaping flower I prefer the Pax over the T1.

Capacity: I can pack 0.4g in the oven of the Pax, but only 0.06g-0.09g in the T1.

Battery Life: I get around 20 hits per session with the Pax and go through prolly 5 sessions before I recharge it. That comes out to around 100 hits per charge. I don't think I've even pushed the battery to the limit and I don't elevate to red to finish off the bowl, so you can get even more hits depending on your technique. This type of battery life/bowl capacity makes it pretty easy to use in a group session. However, with the T1 I usually need to change the batts after 2 bowls, 3-4 hits per bowl.

Learning Curve: According to the TV team, the T1 should provide about 10 good hits before the batteries need to be changed. This means that I might need to improve my technique with the T1 to really maximize the return, but this brings me to my next point- the difference in the learning curve. Although some people have had problems using the Pax due to incorrect technique, I still think that it's easier to learn how to properly use the Pax than the T1.

Device Temperature: Both units can get really hot, but the Pax doesn't get uncomfortably hot until maybe midway through my second session (if I'm doing a back-to-back). Even then, I can still comfortably hold the Pax by the mouthpiece end. The T1 body gets pretty hot after the first hit. By the third hit I need to put it down because it's so hot. Then it takes maybe 4-5 minutes for it to cool down to the point that I can hold it again and take the next hit.

Cleaning: I give the edge to the T1 in this category. I don't have to clean my T1 that often, and when I do it's pretty simple (brush abv dust from the bowl, maybe a quick swab with a q-tip and iso). Cleaning the Pax isn't difficult, just a little more involved. It has to be done more often if you want optimal performance/flavor.

Design: This is a push, imo. I like the look of both devices. The Pax has a minimalist and modern design while the T1 has more of a tough and aggressive feel. My friends have referred to the T1 as "gangsta" (black sleeve, of course).

Stealth: I think the Pax is stealthier because it's hard to determine its function from its form. People will most likely mistake it for a phone, mp3 player, or even some sort of battery. If people caught a glimpse of my T1, they could mistake it for a light saber and start asking questions. [Cue Obi-Wan waving hand: "You don't want to ask me about this cool vaporizer."]

Cost: Both devices are on the high end in regards to price, but the Pax costs 25% more than the T1 (and this month you can get 25% off of the T1 with TV's summer promotion code).

Summary: If I'm going to vape flower on the go, then I grab my Pax. If I want to vape concentrates, I grab my tv dart on either the t1 power handle or the ultralite (depending on my stealth needs).

I currently don't have my Pax because I'm waiting for a replacement (temp button sticking issue others have mentioned) so I've been forced to use the T1 as a back-up, which is making me really miss my Pax... :(

This is an opinion, not fact. You should state it as such. I realize that some people (SliM for example) find the MFLB does not do the job for them but to say outright that the MFLB cannot touch the Pax even with a PA is strictly your opinion, and one that leads me to believe you just never learned how to use your LB.

I think everything everyone says that has to deal with opinion, is clearly already an opinion. No need to state the obvious. And anyone who takes someones views as fact, well... they'll learn.

I clearly felt there was a need to state what you feel is obvious and I still do. Please read to the end of the thread before responding.

??? Replaceable batts in the Pax?

Only for the foolishly experienced...

Kind of. It voids the warranty I believe.

Oh and then some... I keep looking at it half-expecting it to flash red and then start beeping faster and faster... Ploom can do that by remote :ninja:
Honestly though, it was tricky, and a tight fit. But my battery life was poor compared to someone else's, I had no choice.

May i ask why you feel there is a need to state something that doesn't need to be stated at all because it's not needed as taught in english classes?

damienm love the smiley, I copied it lol.

Joe omg you just can't stop. That is awesome what you did with the batteries but the post yesterday said you need to dead them and charge them to train them. I suppose the mod in you just didn't want to try that.

I know dub all you modders Knights of FC. I would list my favorite people that make me smile but didn't want to leave anyone out. How does it feel to have Knighthood?

Joe-K-A, how can we ignorant learn more about your adventure into the innards of the Pax??? So you felt your battery power could be better and you plunged. So cool. So cool.

Any pics or details? Difference in battery power rating?

Thanks!

damn joe, i really want to see how this battery swap works out, cause if it drastically improves the battery life i might (MIGHT) give it a try.

When you replaced the battery, is it obvious that you opened it up, like will ploom know that you opened and swapped batteries?

The battery I posted is very cutting edge: 3400mah vs the stock 2600mah. I'm hoping for more than 100 minutes of runtime...

But the battery is spot welded to the wires and notice they run under the green pcb, which you have to be very careful moving because it's connected by ribbon cables to the heater on the left and the charger contacts on the right.

Honestly, not something I'd recommend, not good for stress levels

A many thanks murph17! :D Beautiful! This is exactly what I was looking for. Your photo has helped me a lot! Thanks so much!

Ploom also emailed me back today with some photos. A guy a ploom took some quick photos of the cobalt pax with his iphone. I'll post them here so everyone can enjoy :D

Joe-K-A, did you cut the wires, then replace with heat shrink? How'd you make the connection to the new battery? So cool!

VapeNazi, you have been running this for a while? Must be quite a ways back in this thread? Thanks for being the first!
