I'm down for the solvent-less extraction... though would this end up being something only big companies can afford to get into, or will this be for the DIY type people who are small timing it? even better, for both...

This is going to be released to the world for free as long as we are given credit for it some how some where.

Isn't keif and hash made with kief technically solventless extraction?

ditto! if you can figure that out i'll broadcast that shit everywhere!

Well we have figured it out. Thats the thing, we are just trying to make it easier.

And when we are done with all our vaporizer projects we are going to restart the lab and now work on equipment that can make it happen on lets say at someones small kitchen.

Well yes but they are not oils or waxes.

Understood. They won't work for us.

However, in response to JKA's point, I'm not sure..... I recall some talk about how this is a flaw in the law that's provided a 'loophole' for the Blue Meanies to rush through. These guys are typically water extracted, and water is 'the universal solvent'..... Yes, the law doesn't say it has to be a solvent for THC.....

As I understand it the whole area is very murky, a true swamp to be avoided. Right now, I think it's legitimate MM users that are keeping the wolf at bay here. They don't want someone's grandmother in a wheel chair on the evening news. Nor do we, even if for different reasons. Strange bedfellow indeed.

ok so i filled up my new 1.5 cartridge and it has a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy different taste than the 2.4 it came with. it gives me a headache, i can't explain what it tastes like...

on vaporpedia it says
If you draw on the cartridge while dry you wont get the most pleasent odor or taste. It taste somewhat like machine oil. Its likely manufacturing residue and the ni-chrome heater wire oxiding.

so i guess thats the taste im getting, but it won't go away! im currently just not even gonna use the cartridge i filled up because the taste..currently im pre-oxidizing the shit outta a fresh 1.5 i've done it about 7 times now (3 second hold 15-20 second cool off) and i can still smell it. =/

Yeah this is my next big interest. It's the last frontier on the health aspect. You can grow it 100% natural, extract it and vape. Clean pure and natural from start to end.. except that one part, and I'm already giving G credit for solving it! :)

What is a V2 cart vs the V1?

I like the Prometheus, can't wait to see the kitchen version! ;)

how about a filler cart? A big wide mouthed thing (maybe even one flat edge for those who scrape up goo) that you then hit the button on you Omi or Persei and it gently melts it down and gets it ready to pour into your preheated cartridge.. Which means you can build a cart preheat top too! :D

Heh heh heh!

Cheers!

Indy.

I wonder when the new carts are coming out. My carts leak and clog.

ok i just checke 20 cartridges have not seen any bad taste like the ones stated above. I just dont see it anymore.

Could it be phantom taste? because of the early complaints?

There are some very old carts out there man, tons of places bought up your first 2.4 and 1.5's by the bulk... I guess some of the early bad batches are still out there?

I recently bought two 2.4 carts from harborside oakland and they were the original unprinted ones

Yeah, but how did you calibrate him?

Kidding aside (for just a bit), this is a very subjective area. I assume you tried the batch you sent him for taste/smell before sending them? I doubt the PO opened the box..... Not to second guess Jared, of course, but to try to find a scale point here somewhere? Perhaps he could send you any of the smelly ones not full of contraband?

Also, I agree with a former poster. I've noticed a difference in taste with the higher power carts. In fact putting a single cart on a VV head is kind of interesting sometimes..... Could it just be an artifact of that? I'm stuck on the 2.4s being OK and these 1.5s being very bad......well I guess two different batches, which makes it even more puzzling.

for me the "bad taste" w/ those carts is easily chalked up to overheating. you do need to pre-oxidize a little, even w/ new ones and any remaining smell is just from that burning off. you'll be fine once you add the oil. imho
in my previous experience vaping oils (i won't go into which ones) you will get a horrible taste the closer to combustion you get (and this will combust, don't believe me? just put a little oil on a nail and hit it w/ a torch, see the flame? that is oil combustion) the more awful it will taste, as well as feel in the lungs. you always new when you had overheated your oil when it felt like someone was sitting on ur chest the next day. usually i find people hold the button way too long when hitting 1.5, especially if it is sap. a couple secs on and off usually does the trick. just my two cents

Once again, Bob, I'm with ya there. Cooking the stuff doesn't seem to do it any good taste wise. That should have no effect on this 'pre oxidizing' stuff, but we're dealing with taste here. Folks can vary a huge amount here, I'm sure you know a few folks that have no taste at all even???

I suspect the oil masks any residual taste for lots of us?

Too bad we don't have some 'standards' or even just knowns to fall back on. Look at the spread of experiences in the great cart test off? I think most agree it's better, but what exactly that means I'm not sure.

Let's hope this gets sorted out, most if not all the other taste issues were finally identified and dealt with. For now, I with you thinking the smart money should be on 'overcooked'....

I also think the bad taste is caused by overheating. I use 1.5 carts and in my opinion they are to easy to overheat and maybe they also combust if you hold the button more than 3s. And I suppose the bad taste remains in the cart if you overheat it to often...
In my case they also irritate to much my throat. (and I don't have this problem with other vapes)

well if we agree on this, do we also agree that if you overheat when filling, besides clogs and leaks, you are likely to have an immediate burnt taste as well? just as oil at the end of a cart tastes worse than oil at the beginning? i personally think they might have to make a 6 ohm cart for sap on the 7.4 hvd unit. i am ripping sap on two 5ohm (yay new double tip!) at 6v right now with a few secs on and off and getting the tastiest, fullest hits, i've ever gotten on the persei b4. the clouds could put down an elephant. nothing like this seen by any other machine!

I'd like to chime in and say that my best flavor experience has been with 2-5ohm carts @ 3.7v. Warm up take a bit, but seems worth it depending on how much time I got. I also believe the high power carts tread the line of combustion, I have always countered this with pulsating the button, like bob.
