I've started using a different technique with my volcano and thought I would share. Take about .2 grams and evenly cover the bottom of the easy bowl. Then take the liquid pad and push it down into the bowl making a herb sandwich. Turn the volcano to maximum heat and let er rip. You get one really thick juicy bag. I use large turkey bags so for me this is a pretty big bag of thick noxious vapor. The herb will be totally spent but it's a pretty satisfying way to get rid of .2 grams. :)

I was thinking about this after seeing it done with the PLENTY and you did it. What I think is happening is the liquid pad is forcing air out of the chamber and by doing this is is lowering the air pressure inside and the hot air staying in contact with the herb more which means you need a lower temperature to achieve the same effect you would have with just filling the chamber normally. This is what makes the vapexhale get good clouds at low temperatures with the ez load bowl. I think going to 420f is good enough when using the pad like this as going higher will degrade more of the substances and give more of a stone than a high and leave less active substances.

I have a friend of a friend selling a Volcano base unit (no parts) but it's the analog model which means the thermostat can easily be damaged by being dropped or pressure put against the control knob. I once dropped the Volcano I used to have and it got the temperature way out of whack, even on max powder it didn't get hot enough to vape. Luckily I was able to take it apart and bend the thermostat parts back into a usable range, the temps didn't match their original dial positions but at least it fixed it.

In order to know if the thermostat is ok on this one I want to buy, would anyone with a Volcano in good condition, never dropped, hit or put pressure against the knob, tell me exactly how long it takes to preheat to level 5 on the dial (pointing straight up) from a cold start (after being off for a few hours).

I'll compare that to the time it takes on this unit and it'll let me know if the thermostat is in good shape.

Thanks

I don't have one, that's why I'm asking for a test by this method, it's still more than accurate enough to tell me if it's within 25 degrees or so, even if it's off by 25 degrees, it's still useable, I don't need it to be exactly right, it's no big deal if I need to put it at 4 instead of 5 to get the result I want.

Would you be able to time it for me as I described above?

By the way, since I don't have the parts to begin with I wouldn't be able to test it the way you did even if I had a thermistor or whatever it's called.

Thanks

That just happened...
I would tell you how hot the air blows out at 5. But I will time it just for you. :)

Thanks a lot for that, since I don't have a thermometer like you do I think this is the most accurate way that I can tell if it's grossly out of range or not.

Thanks

Standing stone faced like a statue.
I have used the volcano a lot and I would recommend it if you can afford it, However I could not afford 600 dollars and I went for the arizer extreme q which has all the same options + a little more(only downside is you cant put as much in the bowl) and cost half the price of the volcano.

I do not prefer the Volcano as my daily driver, but I finally have found a great place for it in my life.
I do like it when a few people are standing around.. if I need to speak with one privately, I can hand a bag to the other visitors, and have them step to another area with a bag to fill a moment of private time.
It does not medicate me in a couple of hits as do my hard hitters, but is nice for a casual session.
A couple of bags will get me where I need to be.
I have the Solid Vave Kit as well, but I am liking "Easy Valve"

I sure do have easy valve (solid valve too... but unused!)
Looks like you had lots of fun making that one!!

That wasn't a video I did. I was looking around youtube, found it and thought I would pass it along to you since you love vapes and different techniques.

Hello,
I bought the volcano 4 years, I presented myself quickly in the minivap thread.

I use short balloons, (42cm)

What kind of temperature are you using to vaporize ?
I do two passes with my stuff : The first one at TH6. The second at TH7

I find myself sometimes a little bit too stoned ;)
I'm gonna try lower settings since i read "Vaporizing Effects by Temperature"

The thing I love with high temp is the thick vapor, here is a old video I made long time ago

hi ca5h,

i use bigger balloons most of the time.

I usually vape at 185°. With some weed i need to start out lower like 170° and then go up to 185° from the second balloon on. I usually do like 5 balloons at least. Sometimes i pump up the temp to 200-210° usually when i like to watch a movie and dont have to do something ...
Sometimes when in need i pump up the temp all the way to 230° before going to bed. I usually use my AVB for this. For this method i use alot more than usually. Normaly for myself alone i cover the ground of the solid valve bowl (about 0.2g), but when i use this method i load much more. Its AVB and i usually have alot. I use the stuff i vaped with 230° in a seperate jar because its then no longer good for anything vapor related.

Getting thick vapor is also greatly depends on the amount of weed. If you pack 0.5g in there you will have dense vapor at 185° already.

I would recommend sticking to this temp most of the time because of the effects, if you go higher you will get a couch lock ...

@vitolo: since you have both the easy and the solid valve what made you choose the easy over the solid valve?

Just to throw a few thoughts in the air about the Beloved Volcano, which has done me wonders over the years - allowing my lungs to fully heal back to there original state ( quicker than if i hadn't vaped high grade meds throughout the period of my pneumothorax/collapsed lung back in 2010 ?? )

It allowed me to follow the transition from smoker to pure vaporist.. No turning back when one sees the light in high grade well built vapes.. Every hit is like a fresh first hit on a pipe but without the added burnt ash/butane pipe taste. Hold it in to required level relating to supplies or intentions of getting higher...

One thing that it has given me, is tendencies to be perfectionist with all the material been in the bowl and not around the rim of the chamber where it gets blown into the bag - to later be inhaled directly into the lungs ( owch ) keeping gauze's clean around the edges is advisable too.

I was thinking of getting some sort of silk screen or similar to put in the mouthpiece to stop foreign particles ( not dishing out loads on a medi valve ) if anyone could elaborate on the mesh size or similar contraptions/ideas on this filtering that would be very helpful ??

Water filtration will be my future goals when i can afford a nice piece from US :)

I prefer tjhe easy valve because it is just that.. easy!
It is light weight, and I prefer the actual chamber
The easy valve chamber is slightly wider and has a slightly wider vape platform (screen)
I can twist and change the easy valve with one hand as well!

I often water-filter the volcano bag. I simply hold it to the bong i dont have an adapter.
What i noticed is that there are never any particles in the water after i used it.
I guess there is no need to filter what is comming out of the bag. I asume that the particles stick to the wall of the balloon before they can get out. If you are worried i think water filtration is best.
My heahshop of choice here has bong adapters for the easy valve system. You can directly attach the balloon to the bong. There is nothing like this for the solid valve as far as i know.

Fair enough vitolo - although i do love been able to repair bags on the cheap. I would defo say that particles make there way into your mouth/lungs as have had unpleasant experiences with it quite a few times in my past 2-3 years of using it daily. Water filtration it is then, just need to find a nice small piece with a 8mm bowl ( should fit standard valve ) keeping it clean, just for vaping ( maybe a t nail or similiar upgrade eventually )

I have friends that go through bags faster than I do... but they do not vape as often.
I fill that easy valve bag a dozen times a day, and am on the same bag for over a month.. and it is showing no signs of wear whatsoever.

Hi Chant21, I wonder if it's the standard valve that's letting herb through. I only have the EZ valve so I can't do a comparison but I don't get and material in my bags and none shows up when I use my bubbler. The water is clear...

I went with the EZ after reading and finding that the wider diameter helps with the even "toasting" of my herb.....and the top screen may be helping to keep things clean. Also, it's just easier ..... and you can reuse the plastic holders and add new bags. They also mate up with a bubbler as you can get a glass Gong adapter that only works with the EZ bags....

And I am "shocked" by your inappropriate avatar! If you could only remove those two ugly white spots it might be acceptable

Not sure about the comparisons side by side but maybe the Ez valve design works more efficiently with keeping small particles at bay, i don't find the bigger bowl as conservative though and am quite happy with my standard valve ( love the hands on option always) - can clean some very nice golden oil of the mouthpiece metal cone bit attached to the bag too :)
Am thinking of getting some sort of 100 micron material to attach to the mouthpiece :)

Thermovape is my new toy coming soon tho.. cant wait

just out of interest is the top black bit that holds the chamber on the unit- unscrew for anyone else? mine did it the first time since i got it 2 years ago i just screwed it back in tight and hoped it wouldn't come loose again.

I have a classic volcano ( model with air filter ) i also noticed that the white ring that you can see housed just below this the mesh by the black ring i was just talking about : Has a weird warped raised bit i can just make out if i shine a torch there - i didn't notice this before - but then i wasn't really looking, does anyone else s have this ( just hoping its not a health hazard - and wud rather not risk sending it to get fixed from here in the UK to Germany ( might be ok - anyone else had to do this ? )

Hi

I have a volcano classic and love it.... easy to use (even when you're completely f-d), stupidly easy to clean (drop part in alcohol and shake).

The first time I used it I had to get around my apartment on hands and knees because I could hardly stand.

The only down side for me is that when you want a hit NOW it feels like it's taking years to warm up :) when in reality its a few mins.

As an aside I got the classic as it has a simple temperature control (in terms of components) so in theory there is less to go wrong with it.

Don Vitolo Volcanoleone nice vid

My Volcano digit just came last friday and I was wondering if coughing a lot is normal, I have it set at 375 usually but ive tried 365-385 and they all seem to make me cough the same. I'm thinking that its just a vapor thing and not really a temperature problem at this point but was looking for some confirmation.

I got my medical card in february and had been smoking most of the time but would only cough on really large hits, with the volcano I seem to cough even with small hits.
