getting The Cloud gave me a good reason to register, because my unit arrived!

Down to business.

My first impression upon getting the box was whoever is doing the packaging needs a papercraft award. The Cloud arrived double boxed with bubble wrap between each layer, and finally when you get inside the second box each item is then individually wrapped in its own protective layer before more bubblewrap goes in. This isn't getting damaged in transit.

Unboxed, a few photos:

Performance:
I had an opportunity to use The Cloud while it was still being developed so this isn't my first time experiencing, but it doesn't stop being amazing. You get nothing but pure flavor using the smallest amount of herb imaginable. I own an Herbalaire and a VaporGene, and I've used a Volcano and an iolite and The Cloud stands above them all. You get nothing but the flavor and having the herbs sit outside of the heating chamber means that quality stands out from start to finish.

During development I was able to experience a few versions of the unit as it marched towards this final state and I have to say that every last minor problem I ever mentioned is gone, and its the little things. On a beta unit the screws that went in the side would be searing hot when used, in the final product they are barely warm against the body. The unit comes to temperature a bit slower now because it doesn't overshoot but rather approaches final temp slowly and you can tell by listening to the clicking slow down.

Its also the only Vape I've ever encountered that can maintain temperature throughout a pull. You can listen to the heater react when you begin to draw air through it and the heating rate is rapid enough that each pull is consistent. Pull it harder and it reacts faster, no more trying to take the worlds longest breath to get the hottest temperature.

A critique or two:

The Hydratube is one of those awesome problems in life. It is sized perfectly for the job but being just a tube it has no way to stand upright on its own and be stable. My solution ended up being the beer mug you see in the picture but I'm sure this isn't the first thing I'm going to use to try to solve this problem.

Resting it on The Cloud itself isn't recommended, the entire assembled contraption stable but I don't trust gravity not to be cruel.

Second Problem: Transport. I have no idea how I'm going to take it somewhere safely. I almost wish it was made of thicker glass so it would be a bit more resilient but then the weight would make logical break point the glass tube at the top of The Cloud. At the end of the day the hydratube is cheaper than The Cloud itself when you consider possible failure modes to design towards. The box the unit comes in will serve for a while as a case, but I'm thinking a briefcase with foam cutouts. Because briefcases are cool.

The Cloud was worth the wait.

@Qaph

nice review!
if you want to take it somewhere i would suggest doing something similar to iamkrazy and get a camera case with pickable foam so you can custom fit it into the foam so it won't move AT ALL.

i plan on getting one to hold my HTs once i start to accumulate a few of them :)

So ideally, what do you suspect is the wait time on clouds for those who only just recently pre-ordered? Looks like an amazing machine and wish I could grab one right now!

For those of you looking for a cheap solution to hold your vertigo ht, just take a toliet paper roll and put it right in the center. I always put mine on a carpeted floor so that if it was to get knocked over it shouldn't get damaged.

Without speaking for SM and the VXC crew, they will be exactly like mine i believe. I just have the first. Pictures don't do this justice, it just feels nice. It seems to be the sturdiest standing up of any of the HT's, which i would have never guessed before i held it.

I love inlines. I curious though - with that narrower loop-around section (from the bottom to the inline), does that add drag?

Wow! This is all very exciting!

The inline is a great design IMO.

I think that an extremely-functional design that is mostly overlooked is a diffuser that fills an outside chamber and diffuses through holes or slits inward (instead of diffusing out of the slits or holes like current designs do).

IIRC this is how the peyote pilliar bubbler works.

This could be done simply with a sturdy bulb with slits or holes on the side, or this could get crazy with reverse domes/trees/waffles/matrix's/inlines/etc.

I like many of the recent posts, but am rarely logged in when reading. :)

Toke it easy, all.

Does anyone else watch this thread nearly religiously, in hopes there's an update... Any update, or any new posts at all, simply because they are that excited and anxious to get their own cloud? Or is that just me?

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
I keep popping in to see vid reviews, and the hopeful one day announcement "we are now mainstream & ordering is open for immediate delivery" :D Well, one can dream, right ?

Great review. It's cool that you got to experience the beta and the final product - the evolution of the vxc,if you will. I was really excited to read your review because you are the first person who could compare the vxc to the ha. As a bag blowing vape the heat retention is amazing.

"Its also the only Vape I've ever encountered that can maintain temperature throughout a pull."

I would love to see a video of u getting the heater to come on the ha while pulling through a tube. Im not sure it's possible unless your last name is Hoover!

As far as I can tell the only negative to the vxc is the heatup time - 5-10 min is way to long for some people. However, if you can leave it on for say 6-10 hours without issue then the startup time becomes irrelevant. Just got to be mindful of the shutoff timer I guess.

If VX continues to build on their successful recent 'soft release', I could see them having the budget to include all sorts of 'freedom' software (like the ability for the owner to overide the shut-off timer and change temperature ranges with a warning about liability, recommended temperature range/use, and installed software to track hours of use, temperatures used, abuse according to the manual/warranty violations, etc. A USB port for an external Cloudrive that greatly increases ones software-based Cloud personalization options could follow. :lmao:

The sky is the limit. And, when I look up at the sky today all I see is clouds. ;)

Guys, I know some will laugh, but, how is the taste compared to a Solo?

Not really laughable Solo provides great taste. Small glass tube, Solo has great taste. I think the vxc is a step above, and can be seen most easily with a dry HT. Something about the thickness and the low temp of the vxc. I have been using my Solo on settinf 2 for about the last 6 months. Great position, but the vxc seems to run cooler with thicker vapor at at the noon setting. Not exactly sure.

Consider that this vape has a heating element that has to heat up a large area of glass, in order to provide the performance that makes it worth the price, and that physics is a factor, rather than any design deficiencies or cost cutting. Models that heat up fast can't provide the kind of temp stability you get with the Cloud, because all they're doing is getting the element itself up to vaping temp. Asking for any vape to provide Cloud type performance with a fast heat up time is like asking for a car that can go from 0-60 in 4 seconds and still get 40 mpg. The limitations of current technology demand that the design goal has to go in one direction or the other.

This is a perfect example of one our aims on this forum- to make it clear that there is no best vaporizer. No single model, home or portable, can be the best in every respect. You have to decide what features are important to you and choose the vape that best meets what you want in a vape. If I want a quick hit I don't turn to the Cloud. I pick up a CRZ stem, load it, and I've got a hit in seconds. If I want to get good and high in a hurry, I turn on the Cloud and despite the wait time for heat up, I'm better off than by vaping multiple CRZ bowls.

I tried that did not work. tube doesn't fit inside tp roll. what brand did you use and does the tube fit all the way in or just partially( to gong joint). I will lay it on its side on a think wool sock tilted up at one end. until the cloud-station comes out. thanks mongorian (i think)

Well that sucks, I was hoping they would be shipping these out In masses by may. I guess the custom glass is not only expensive, but time consuming to manf as well as keeping up with quality control.

regarding the heat up time...I didn't use the beta cloud all the time until recently, and the heat up time was why. I've always got a log vape ready to go. But after deciding to make it my daily driver I can say the heat up time is a non-factor for me, and it used to be. After I plug in and turn on the Cloud I go to work preparing the ELB. I have never waited more than a minute or two after that for the Cloud to go green. All vapes perform better when warmed up a little bit, but the Cloud seems to be the best at actually working when it says it is ready. I don't think that anyone who gets a Cloud will be complaining about the warmup time.
