@ OTA - Awesome dude, very happy to hear you're getting the full-on experience now. I think your plan of not leaving it on 13.8v 24/7 is a good idea as that is generating a massive amount of heat, using the 12v PS like a standby adapter is a great idea.

@ SpaceKracker - hey man sorry to hear you're not getting foggy like the UD is known for. Can you give us some more info on your situation: how long has it been plugged in, which PS are you using, what stems or water piece? Something must be amiss as the piece was kicking ass here and clouding up the place.

underdog,
I'm getting hits with both stems, they're just not that big. I've tried drawing really slow to increase heat and it works, kind of... I think I'm just frustrated that I can't jack the heat up and bring the herb right up to the edge of combustion and get a huge lung expanding white cloud. I know what lungs full of vapor feels like and when to stop drawing before combustion, and it's getting no where close. It gives nice little one hit like tokes, but I can't get it to really crank. It's been plugged in for a few hours now.

This is my first log vape and it just might not be right for me. I think I need something with adjustable heat. I like vaping around 375.

Do you have a different power supply you can try? Don't give up on the Pup yet dude, help me help you (what movie is that from lol?) and I'm almost sure we can get you dialed in where you want to be. Other than a couple weird European guys I've had very few people not be able to get the temp they want.. and those European guys are.. well.. like I said.. weird.(j/K weird Euro guys)

@spacecracker, do you live in europe? common problem it seems, personally I also like the low temp
OTA puts his UD under a pillow to get it hotter and now just receied a higher voltage adaptor as you can read above
so you could wait and see what OTA's tests result in, and get a higher voltage adaptor

djonkoman,
Nope, I'm in florida. I switched electrical outlets and it seemed to get about 15-20 degrees hotter. Must be the wiring in this old ass house. Threw some hash in there and it's really going good now.

I'll post some abv pics later on and see what yall think.

Awesome! Keep us posted.. it sounds like you're on the right track, the track to heavy fog.

underdog,
yeah, it's really heating up on the other outlet. It's on another breaker so maybe the load isn't as heavy on that one or something. Clouding up nicely!

keep at it spacekracker, my UDs are some of the heaviest hitting vapes i have used to date, yet still retain excellent efficiency. if i really try to get a big rip, i will experience lung busting dense hits that will get me to hack up a storm :p

Hey guys. How often do you guys clean your stems? Also what method do you use? After 3 days of use my glass stem is pretty yellow.

I was thinking about just filling the glass stem container/holder with 90% iso and soaking it along with the screen. Will that cause damage to the silicone?

Or do you guys let your stems go longer and just swap out screens?

Glad to hear you are getting it sorted out SpaceKracker. The UD is truly a hard hitter once you figure out proper technique.

from the UD site:

"Our stems are simple, easy to use and affordable. You can clean them in an alcohol wash or by running them through the dishwasher with your silverware."

I use an alcohol soak (overnight) for the glass and a brief alcohol wash for the silicone tip (10-15 minutes) and it works out pretty well. The glass comes clean and the silicone slightly improved.

I replace the silicone tip every other week or when it's grimy enough that it bugs me. As far as screens go I find that I don't have to replace them very often, usually a couple hot/dry hits once the herb is cashed and the screens blow/tap out pretty nice and clean. I replace the screen every few weeks or when I think about it but I don't think I really need to at all.

my standard silicone stems i will usually let go for weeks before cleaning/replacing them. after a couple months of heavy use, i will discard them for fresh ones. My dry glass stem doesnt get much use as i usually use a water pipe in conjunction with my UD, and i usually let those claim up a bunch before cleaning

Great Scott!
Either I'm not doing something right, or the ud doesn't get nearly hot enough to properly vape herb. My avb is dark green at best and still has a lot of vapor left in it. I can throw it in a vaproite at 320 degrees and roast it on down to coffee ground brown, almost black. The clouds aren't very thick either, like it cools down after you hit it for a few seconds. It hasn't made me cough once. I need to be able to get this thing a lot hotter or I may just order an ssv.

Where are you? US or somewhere else? You should first move the screen up in the stem so it is closer to the heater core. If you still can't get the temps you want I HIGHLY suggest the variable temp. It is incredible the range of temps I can get with this thing and a variable power supply.

Wow, thats generous of you Dave, thats great for the winner!

Heres how im going to do this. Today is March 10th. Im going to run this contest for two weeks. This puts the final date to enter as March 24th. That will give the winner almost a full month to order their unit and hopefully get it before 420!

To enter...

1. you must plan to buy a unit. I dont want this discount to go unused. Dave was kind enough to run the contest in the fall to prospective buyers. I got busy with school and life and was unable to use the code. The goal is to get a sale for Dave.

2. Post your answer in this thread. One entry per person.

3. The closest guess to the correct answer will get the code!

This is one of those auto counting change jars that they sell all over the place. I have a collection of change in this one below. How much do you think is in it in american dollars? Good luck to everyone! Thanks!

without the UD attached I get a handsome 14,2V from this notebook adapter. Oh, and I don't think it's a switching one, it can't be much over 250 gram and it is smaller then it looked like in the add
Welcome to the world of high voltage vaping

From the sounds of things you have a switching supply. I've never seen a notebook adapter that isn't. When you can measure the voltage under load you should find that it is close to 13.8V, which is around half a volt lower than its unloaded voltage. The difference would be several volts if it were a transformer type supply. Switching supplies are smaller and lighter than a transformer supply. Both my transformers weigh about half a kg. My switching supplies are around 150g.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I had a lot of fun playing with the little two faced bullet tonight. I'm still experimenting with the screen placement a bit and I think I need to up my draw speed as well. It really blazes through bowls quickly now, but on the other hand I get medicated super fast as well. Going at 13,8V for 8 hours now and everything seems to be ok. It's a bit hot on the outside, but mostly just on the darker lines if you check out the picture (click 'favs' in my sign to see what I mean) & less extreme then when I was stuffing it. A variable PSU probably would have been better though, it is a bit on the hot side even for me. But that wouldn't be very portable. Perhaps I can build in a little variable resistor (I think you guys call them rheostat over there) in my laptop PSU sometime.

It's nice to be able to admire my UD in between sessions as well for a change btw, before it was always stuffed underneath something as soon as I got home until I went to bed

nice news OTA
I revaped some of my ABV in my VG today and can still get some nice clouyds(and a nice high) out of it.
wich is a nice combo, in the UD I get a superior amazing taste-experiece and a very good high from very little, and I can vape the ABV in my VG when I want a quick toke or higher temp, or I could save it for at the bar

but maybe I'll get a highervoltage adaptor too, I'll still begin with my present adaptor since the taste is just so good this way and I like the lowtemp too(when I tried the pilowmethod the taste was less amazing), but would be nice to get some of those famous clouds too

I did the same with my Vapocane before Djonko, it worked well at home but I wanted to bring the UD with me on trips or over to friends houses as well so this is quite an improvement. I can pack a lot lighter now all of a sudden, especially icw the small hammer bubbler that now replaces the Ehle on the go. Now I just have to figure out a way to get the UD up to temp on my bike-battery and I'm done :)

I agree with you on the better taste at lower temps, a lot of subtleties are ost if you blaze through a bowl on high temps. I think I'm gonna use a second bowl with the screen further from the heater core for the first two or three hits of every bowl.

Yeah, my non-switching PSU for the car inverter is around half a kilo too, this is definitely lighter. I don't really care as long as it works though

Yeah, it wasn't really noticeable on the old version, but the white squares seem to motivate more people to personalize things up a bit, haha. I like this side-effect myself, makes it a bit easier to recognize people, as long as they don't change it to often anyways..

Hi folks. Finally wanted to introduce myself. Been a lurker on FC for a couple of years now. Been a user of just a couple of vapes found through this site (first an MFLB about 2 years ago, followed by a PD not long after that). Very soon to be an owner of a UD after lengthy email discussions with underdog the past several weeks. :) Following these latest threads finally motivated me to register here to say hello, share some experiences, ask some questions.

Weird how I feel like I sort of know some of you already...

Interesting development here.

Got two of the new-style glass stems, and much to my surprise, one (but not both) makes a perfect 100% airtight seal with my 14mm downstem.

I guess the second stem doesn't have a perfectly rounded mouthpiece, but the one that does work, i barely have to put any pressure against the downstem, and if I plug the end of the glass stem with my finger, I cant inhale even a teeny bit of air.

Moisturized all-glass vapor pathway, Now my UD really feels like a Cloud :D
