I know! I was stunned too! I had made a money offer on top of my existing order to have it specifically and we discussed it a bit, but I told him in the interest of time (since he was really busy), I didn't mind taking a more ordinary one. He totally surprised me! :o

Goes to show it never hurts to ask about these things. Never know how it'll play out!

Mine doesn't have the fine detail work that that one has but is very nice to look at. I'll post some pictures tomorrow and I think you will agree.

This isn't my detailed review but in case you are wondering it performs beautifully. It hits like a regular whip vape i.e. buddha but is in the form factor of a log. The glass vapor tubes are really nice and a good size so that you can get several very good size hits from one load. For reference I suck down a PD stem in one toke.

I'll report further tomorrow. :)

all good in the hood.
so there is no website to order one of these. To those of you who have ordered, have you just emailed him directly. what about all the options? Do you pay through paypal? also, how do you discuss the options you want?

I shot him an email off of his account link here. We didn't really have any options to discuss, though I'm sure he might have more to say if you asked. I had only got the piece I have now because I later asked about it when I saw a photo he later posted. After I expressed interest in buying one blind, he sent me a Paypal invoice and then that was pretty much that. I think right now after he cleared out the last order he's probably going to push to get the website up, but I really can't speak for him there obviously.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

It depends on how you look at it I guess. I'm an athlete and have a bigger then normal lung capacity. I am appreciating that the OCD is able to fill them. :D

Hmmm... So I got mine but no instructions. I heated about 12-1 o'clock for about 1/2 hour and it wasn't hot enough to produce vapor. I turned up a bit further and waited awhile. I did get vapor then but also started smelling a 'campfire' smell...like wood burning. I ended up turning off and unplugging.

You guys that have gotten yours...about how far are you turning the dial to preheat?? Thanks in advance!

It looks really nice, the box looks nice too. I asked for mine to be left naked :brow:

Look forward to giving this a go again over the weekend.

Although you can certainly 'load light' and do this (with the right type of herb), if you think you can always cache a PD bowl in one hit, or even three, I can assure you that you're mistaken. In my ususal vaping spot I exhale into good lighting, and I've seen exhaled vapor many times when I otherwise would have sworn the bowl was shot.

I had instructions emailed to me, so I figure I might as well share them here so there's a record of them:

Old City Diffuser Manual said:
Vaporizer / Diffuser Operating Instructions & Tips

* The OCD vaporizer is fully adjustable, on the front of the unit is the adjuster or rheostat that controls the temperature of the unit as well as serving as an on/off function by turning it all the ways counter-clockwise until you hear and feel a slight click. The full range of the adjuster spans 320? on the dial.

* The OCD vaporizer will reach full heating range within 17-25 minutes depending on climate/ambient room temperatureyou can turn the vaporizer on full power at first to reach your required heat temperature more quickly. (For reference our vaporizer hits 392? in 22 minutes at an ambient temperature of 78? in high humidity that is with our dial set at the 5 oclock setting). If you leave your vaporizer on the fullest power, which would be all the way clockwise, you may exceed 400? which is a temperature that you may notice significant combustion/burning of any plant material. If this happens, take note of the position and dial it back a few degrees for further reference.

* Once the optimal temperature has been reached for your herbal blends, you can dial back the power a little; this may take one or two trials in order to achieve maximum efficiency of your blends but will result in the overall effectiveness of your blends to increase.

* If you find that your blends are becoming burnt, dial it down, and on the other hand if you think that you are not achieving the maximum from your herbs, simply dial it up a little. You will generally be able to see a change in color as well as an overall dryness in your herbs but will differ greatly from herb to herb.

* We do recommend that you use only dry herbal blends, if you feel as though you may have too much moisture, leave them out overnight or set them aside till that achieve a dryer state.

* Only turn the vaporizer on when in use. It is a device that creates heat.

* Each unit comes with your own custom vapor-tubes. To use the vapor tube, properly dry and grind your herbs (to ensure maximum efficiency and transfer) and use the vapor-tube to suck up the dry herbs like you would a straw. We do not recommend trying to forcibly pack herbs in the tube, it should be lightly packed, usually the vacuum created by your mouth while sucking the herbs in the end of the tube is enough to fully pack the entire vapor tube.

* Insert the vapor-tube into the hole in the OCD vaporizer that is about 4/5s of the way up the unit. It is not crucial to try to insert the tube all the way into the hole in the unit, as long as proficient seal has been made, that is all that is necessary. We recommend taking draws from the vapor-tube, which would be longer more consistent and stable in contrast to hitting it which would be a more powerful, short, and abrupt withdrawal from the unit. Long consistent draws allow air entering the top of the unit to absorb more heat from the (heating) element creating a more sustainable temperature when reaching your herbal blends at the beginning of your vapor-tube.

* Do note: these are just our preferences, if you feel as though you have found your harmony between your herbal blends and the vaporizer, go with it. I personally like to mix up the blends with my herbal pick in between draws, allowing the maximum heat transfer to all of the particles in the blend to take place, while this might be overkill for somewe do advocate efficiency in proactive ideas to conserve herbal blends.

* Always turn off the vaporizer when not in use

* Old City Diffusers vaporizer package comes with a handmade box to store your vaporizer in or for transport, but never attempt to put a unit that is still hot into the box.

@Lo: Wish I could give you more insight here, I've not had *any* chance to play with my new toy yet which is a total bummer for now. I'm sure elmomuzz's review will be rather comprehensive and offer some PROTIPs, I'm looking forward to reading it myself.

Like I said in my previous post, I'm pretty much a newbie with regards to vapor, but I'll add in my 2 cents concerning the OCD. Take it for what its worth. I've been able to play with it for a day or so.

When I put my OCD at the 5 o'clock setting as was suggested, I got a little bit of vapor and a real nasty taste. (I probably was combusting, but since the vapes I have tried have never reached combustion, I am not 100% sure.) There was blackened and still green ABV after I emptied the tube. (And the tube still tastes nasty....if anyone has suggestions for getting this nasty taste out of the tube, I'd be appreciative. I will probably soak in ISO, but I'm not sure about removing the o-ring.) In that session, I tried other settings, but I continued using the nasty tube, so everything still tasted like ass.

When I finally realized my problem (in the next session), I got another tube and put it on a better setting--just shy of 3 o'clock on the dial. It's coming out a nice brown. I still need to experiment more to get it all dialed in. But the hits are pretty phenomenal. and the taste, especially on the first hit, is real nice. Fortunately, even when doing it wrong, I still have gotten medicated.

I have ordered the Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009MDBU/ref=oss_product so that once I find the perfect setting for different meds and different affects, I will be able to return to the exact setting.

Feel free to ask me any questions or request that I do something specific to put the OCD through its paces.
:peace:

Cheers,
Tom

The dial needs to turn pretty far before it starts making heat. It maxes out at 18 watts. Im gettng nice brown ABV at 14 watts. The kill a watt is pretty handy for vaporizer use.

Getting my camera out now for picture time. :)

A few teaser shots of my ocd. As others have noted the top gets fairly warm so you want to hold it by the bottom which stays cool.

Oh wow!! I LOVE the wooden knob!! Love it! I have a black plastic knob on mine.

I'm going to plug mine in now and give it another spin. Here's hoping I'm not burning wood lol.

So inquiring minds want to know. How does it compare to your Pandora?

lwien,

The biggest difference is it draws easier and the stem holds several times that of a PD so you can get a bigger hit. You have to stir it with a poker to evenly brown the herb where with my Pandora I take one hit and blow it clean.

When running the ocd gets much hotter on the outside then the PD but I don't think it's a problem.

146 degrees fahrenheit on the outside of the unit seems a bit much. I would wonder about cracking and long-term durability.

I thought that the ceramic insulator is supposed to keep the heat on the inside rather than radiating too much to the outside.

Also, elmomuzz, you can empty a PD stem in one hit? Wow. Dat's some impressive lungs you got there.

I would love to take it apart and see the heat exchanger but so far I've been a good boy. :/

I'm not sure mine whether mine is working properly or not. I have to crank almost all the way (5-6o'clock far as knob goes) to get any vapor at all. I let it heat quite over 30 minutes at 3o'clock position and no vapor at all. Cranked up near full, 5-6o'clock and then I get very wispy vapor and herb has barely changed color. It is heating though, feels warm on top half. Last time I tried it I smelled a burning wood smell. I didn't leave up at near full power as long tonight as I worry I'm burning/charring the wood inside but if that was the case...wouldn't I have vapor if not smoke. No vapor at all in the 12-3 o'clock range.

I'm having a streak of bad luck this week so I'm wondering if it's me or the OCD lol.

I have PD, Pandora, MZ, SSV, IO, LB...not like I don't know how to work a vape ;) but this one is stumping me a bit.

Turn it all the way up. Wait 30 mins and try again.

Mine also smells like heated wood when on. It doesn't get hot enough to char the wood as far as I can tell. I've left mine on on full power for several hours as a test. I will keep torture testing mine as a service to Wes and the community.
