Pokey Sticks

Hi- first post. In my opinion regarding whip based vaporizers, the poke stick is key to maximizing your material and getting good delivery. About a week ago a vendor who I have been in email communication with suggested that I use a toothpick or a bamboo skewer rather than a metal stick, to absolutely prevent the glass from breaking. I didn't think that was possible, from my experience the only thing you could do is puncture the screen at worst, but anyway, I used a toothpick to poke and stir between hits and found the experience inefficient. Then I switched back to my metal stick and got three extra solid hits before dumping the spent vaporizables. The sharp metal stick is MUCh better than a toothpick.

So my question is this - if you want to buy a good pokey stick, aside from ordering a replacement from a vendor or head shop, if you walk into a hardware store what exactly would you ask for?

Thanks....

Can you post a pic ?

I've haunted hardware stores since I was a kid.
You're right it's probably an 'off the shelf item". Or there is something better, maybe ?

Haven't had any problems using these with a glass wand. Much better than toothpicks or anything else I've tried. Haven't tried a glass one like the Extreme comes with though.

Maybe some stainless shish kabob skewers if you could just buy one, I think there are some drink stirring tools that would work, too. Hardware store should have something, I mean basically it's just a thin stainless rod with a sharpened end.

If you want to just order online, 7th floor has the glass bead ones for $2.99.

LOL I think those extra puff just come from the fact that with metal stirring to you broke your herb and with the toothpick you just move it .....?! there is no other reason , I'm sure that a toothpick can made the exact same thing ....anyway !LOL i make my own glass stirring tool and it work :)

Yeah I don't know about extra hits, I just find that stainless picks work better at jostling the herb around, little bits tend to stick to wooden toothpicks. The extra length helps as well.

Edit: a pic since I had the camera out.

The ones on the right have some sort of oxidation on them, I guess from the flame used to melt the bead on. On the left after I used some metal polish. Can't complain though since they were free.

When I stir the bowl on the Extreme, I just stir it after the first bag. After the second and third bags I stir it and crush it against the inside of the bowl, this making finer herb to vape. This technique works best for me when tyring to get more vapor out of later hits. This is the same thing Clear_Dome was talking about above.

I broke my glass wand, it rolled off the bed when I got up (forgot it was right next to my thigh.)

actually as of late i've been spending more time with the purple days than my equally beloved ssv and there's no need for pokey sticks. my only issue with the pd is that once you get a bit ripped you keep missing the heating element when i try and insert it. the only poking i'm doing is jabbing the tube around the circumference, missing the center, especially in low light. actually the issue is ME, not the unit. just not that into turning on the light.

Me too. It depends on my mood and supply. Bottom line-I gotta have both. I do poke a PD bowl occasionally with my SSV pick, when it's really fine stuff and packed, but a sewing needle would be a better tool for this bowl. ;)

I think those are going to be too short. I recently went on a hunt for pokey stick replacements. I went to a couple hardware stores and a craft store. the closest thing I found was some knitting needles. They aren't as thin as I would like but the length is good. I couldn't find any needles that were longer than 2 or 3 inches.

thanks - this would work and probably very well. a stretched out paper clip does the job when there's nothing else.
i find the bamboo skewer sticks not quite as good as the metal. the sticks from 7th Floor are great but with shipping not so cheap after all.
there's a smoke shop on Continental, a few blocks from me - I'll check it out.....

Seriously...I cant get by without mine. I got the wooden pipe looking one and its great!!!! Freeman Dyson was asking me about them & I convinced him to get the "Pipe Tool - 3 in 1 Czech Tool (3 pack)" for $5 & another $5 for shipping. He has one & gave one to his dad...they both use em and have a "house spare" just floating around. The pokers are plenty long for getting down inside the bowl & wand if need be. The flat/scooper side is GREAT for giving your herbs an even turn, just stick it in and give it a spin...boom,herbs flipped & turned, nice and ready for more vapez. The tamper speaks for itself...the weight of the P/T is perfect for vape "packing",just load the bowl & let the tamper end drop down with its own weight to pack. You'll get nice, dense hits that last.

The 7th Flr pick is garbage....Its just a really long & thin fabric needle with a glass bulb dropped on the end. Worst part is,my bulb doesnt even fit in my wand so my poker is friggin useless....pipetool 4tmfw!!!!

Paper Clip- Yes it'll work just fine, but cmon dude....we smoke the best, out of the best....WTF you doing with a paperclip for a stir tool?! :p

Bamboo Sticks - Meh...they work, but again. Its only a temporary thing. Id go spend the $5-15 on a decent-to-really nice pipe tool and be happy I got a nice new pce thats gonna get plenty of use.

funny you mention this because at the same moment i was looking at
http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-3-Thre...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0ef7a512
and ordered one based on your recommendation.

speaking of the best out of the best - first i would say that our appliances are the best and our material is very good but california probably has consistently better material as well as florida - that said, i got something last night called "pink champagne" just for a change of pace from the sour diesel and it's interesting: - research tells me that it's a sativa dominant hybrid. i like its effect; up and cerebral.
