Longtime lurker with an OG, nonavong, XLS and several Ms; I have signed on to FC to comment on the QC issues others have reported and I have experienced with recent orders made PRIOR to 4/20. Fit and finish on every item before the roll out of the 18M was near perfection. The substandard parts seemed to be the freebies (Ti tips) included, the deeply discounted old stock(17M) with loose caps and the 18M bodies with the chipped ends. Most of the problems were tactile, easy to correct with a fine Arkansas stone and brought up to the high standard we have come to expect. I am sure that a large part of the DV magic is this figit factor of the precision finish. I would rather purchase a known 2nd than have something with QC issues tossed in or discounted when I order.

the free Ti tip I got with the M18 looks and performs exactly like my other Ti tips :)

Maybe my "strangest post" yet...

I use alcohol wipes to clean my VC: I cut a piece off with scissors, wrap the piece around a little SS (Stainless Steel to be clear...) tool and push it through the condenser tube and the tip. That makes the condenser and tip shiny and clean!

The previous days I noticed a nasty smell and taste after my weekly cleaning routine. I found out that tiny little pieces of the wipes got stuck inside the condenser and tip due to some sharp and rough finishing
Thanks to the rinsing it turned almost into a paper mache substance and it's terribly difficult to remove. I rinsed both the consenser and tip for a night in water, hoping that will do the trick to remove all of the remaining alcohol wipe particles.

Warning to my dynabrothers and sisters: watch out with alcohol wipes!

Maybe try dipping a q-tip in alcohol and pushing it through the tube. Its a pretty tight fit in my M so I think there is a good shot it will push the particles out.

I haven't heard much about the new tip. Has anyone used it enough to comment? Thinner fins and scalloped channels I would think they may perform a little differently. If anyone has noticed anything please share...

later: OK, so here's a fun question. Should thinner fins having less mass be less effective at pulling heat out of the tip, or would the greater voided space between the fins allow more airflow and then more cooling of the tip?

The fins dissipate the heat before it travels to the user end of the unit. More fins, more surface area more effect. With air cooled aircraft engines more/finer fins usually means more horsepower.

My tip can accommodate the following amount of flowers stored with a 62% rh bodeva pack. This is according to my scale so it could vary +- depending on other more accurate scales and the amount of moisture in your bud.

Screen in bottom groove - .07 grams

Screen in middle groove - .05 grams

Screen in top groove - .03 grams

Dear Squiby ,I did some measurements myself lately ,but the results I got are not in line with yours ...

I used different strain samples ( White Widow - Blue Dream - Moby Dick - White Russian ) ,
mid grinded,
all of them cured for more than 3 months
and stored in 1 liter air-tight mason jars , 2x Boveda 62 % 8 gr sachets per jar.

Also used two different -freshly calibrated - digital scales ,both with 0,001 gr resolution ( 1 mg ).

My results for a 5th gen. Titanium Tip :

Screen in bottom (max capacity ) groove : ~.15 grams ( ~150 mg )

Screen in middle ( mid capacity) groove : ~.1 grams ( ~100 mg )

Screen in top (min capacity) groove : ~.05 grams ( ~50 mg )

Cheers.

a question on the magic flight orbiter.
Can it fit a vong with a MP ?

It almost fits, you have to look very closely but the tip of the mouthpiece does hit the downstem. While it does work despite being shy of a perfect fit, you are better off using a drop down with a reclaimer that will work 100% with your vong body/mouthpiece and keeps your globe clean

I think if they had who ever is packing the orders pay a little more attention to the parts they would have less QC issues. Or perhaps they could have a few pickers and an inspector that checks the items on the order. Or the QC could come before that point when the batches of parts are made.

A quick check would have seen the rough surface on my LE Ti tip, the dirty coolant still inside, the burs in my Ti mouthpiece and the plier marks on that omni stem. It honestly feels like they’re rushing to get product out the door and QC is slipping.

This isn’t an isolated issue but rather a general trend at multiple points in their operation. Poor parts handling practices, lack of QC checks before shipment, dirty parts with machine residue, marred surfaces, burs left on parts, rough surface finish, sharp edges, poor internal communication, etc.

Quality and service was never an issue in the past but it has certainly changed over the course of the last few months.

Wow, lots of complaining after mine. Guess I was just first to get hit with it.

I'm sure DV will be here very soon to take care of all of you just like they did me.

They said they were very busy. And, they can't just hire people to stand around and look at the pieces before they ship. Employees cost money and to have one sitting around just looking and not working is history in this country. The first thing to die when greed takes over is QC. All the big corps cut out QC as American manufacturing was dying.

Why doesn't everyone just fix them yourselves. If I recall, that's what you suggested I do with the sub-standard product I received from them.

And........Be patient.

Where I worked at a triple ISO certified company and facility we had EVERYONE do QC from the ground up. While they might not have the funds to hire people they certainly can improve internal practices and mentality when working.

I don't get why you have to be so passive aggressive all the time? And no, despite what you think your cap is not sub-standard. The cap has always been and always will be a user adjusted fit since it changes with time.

There's a difference between adjustment issues and quality issues.

Hi everyone (again),

Today I've been given a huge, beautiful, crystal ice-bubbler... I'm amazed at the present, but the truth is that it comes with an 18mm hole, and I OFC need a hole that fits my 14mm Nonavong. I've been trying to find out where I can get one of such glass 18-to-14 mm adapters, but I just can't find any in the EU. Any help?

Than ya'll! :D

@Hackerman it would appear you've found something that gives you joy. Bashing DV. It would appear that some of it is deserved based on the current feedback we're seeing on these parts. However, your initial problem of a loose cap was entirely fixable with your own two hands. You chose not to do that and complain instead. That was your choice.

Personally I'm really pissed that no one reached out to you from DV. That sucks. Because I personally asked someone at DV to reach out to you. And they didn't. But it is not the norm. Not sure what's going on, but I'm not happy about it either.

All that said. Let's see how they respond. 4/20/18 could well be a bellwether for Dynavap. How they handle these issues, and how they handle their customers from this sale will go a long way towards establishing their brand as a nascent company. And I know George knows this.

Funny. Not sure quickly squeezing a cap can be considered the same as having to remove poor machining marks on a titanium surface.

It's nice that you've stuck around here, it seem's DV came through for you after your initial issues with them, and I hope the help members here offered you was helpful too.
Looking forward to less insults from your end:tup:

Heading to work again this morning with a capload of rosin in the crafty SS pad (I didn't have to cut mine down at all. I just used some standard pliers and crushed it down until it fit perfect in the "M" tip.) Now I just add some rosin to the tip and press it down on my silicon mat to push the rosin into the SS a bit, and I'm good to go. I am seriously loving this thing, my only complaint so far is the torch only has enough fuel for like 5-6 sessions. That IH though...dreamin still :luv:
