so, my xls ebony double crown with exotic tip came in, and im not loving it. I cant get past the smell of the wood, it reminds me of the taste of a seed in a pipe back in my combustion days. I love the OG glass, I love the TI tip, but the wood body and spinning mouthpiece are just not for me unfortunately 8(. I may be parting this one out if I cant figure a way to get rid of the smell
I just thought of an idea- activated charcoal! Get the powder and literally dunk the wood in it, filling it inside and out. Leave for a while. I bet you good money that will at least fade the odor.

Surprised to hear that. I just got a b/w ebony OmniVap + matching DynaStash a couple of weeks ago and haven't noticed any overpowering wood smell. Granted, I like wood but honestly, after two weeks of daily sessions, if there's any smell at all it's a vague weedy smell.

:rofl::rofl:

@Jah1975, do you know if that's the wood's scent (who's gonna make the wordplay? :haw:) or the butter's scent that you are able to smell?

Can I make a joke about heating the metal and not the wood, or is it too soon? :lmao:

One of my burl bodies has a strong butter smell, wich has disappeared after a few days. Other ones don't have any smell coming from it.
On another end some wood have a strong smell, I have a Thuya box who's can stink an entire room. What a wonderful scent!

But all in all if you have a persistent problem, get in touch with Matt or George @VapCap.
There is no way to be unhappy :science:

It's a slight smell, but distinctly reminds me of the smell of a burning seed. I'm sensitive to smells, so it might not even bother anyone else. It's a beautiful piece and I would love to use it rather than the OG or my Air, I'll have to try the burts wax and the charcoal thing out. If not, I'll trade it out and buy a Ti glassy. I'm pretty convinced the problem is with my stupid nose and not the cap

Most or all of my observations have been mentioned here at one time or another or perhaps even many times.

Anyway, IMO here are 7 top tips for Vapcap success and a content and delightful life ...

Tip #1 - Respect the click.

BOTH WAYS. The cap really does know what it's doing. Sure, you can heat it past the click a second or so, but I have found that stopping at the click gets me three good hits per session with no worry over possible combustion. Leave that for later when you are more experienced.

The first cycle is a flavour hit and the next two are pure vapour. I am a microdoser and I only use a tiny amount of herb per bowl. I get three cycles per load and then bliss. Some may prefer to slightly overheat the first round for full vapour on hit one, but that will get you very dark ABV while I myself prefer more of a toast colour.

The cooling click is even more important because if you don't wait for it before reheating, you will combust. It's guaranteed, write it down, take it to the bank, count on it. It's easy to get lost; heat the cap, toke away, gaze with loving admiration at your Woody's yet undiscovered beauty and then, without thinking, you put the torch to it again. NO...STOP, don't do that. Wait for that cooling click. For me, this was the toughest part of the learning curve - learning to wait for the cooling click. Now, it's just habit. This alone should give you an indication of how incredibly easy it is to operate. I've never combusted, but I have come close a once or twice. Each time was without question, user malfunction.

When done correctly, the herb always comes out an even toasty brown. Perfection. Yes, you guessed it, it's true. The cap it IS magic.

Tip #2 - Choose your fire.

The flame or heat source that you choose DOES effect your outcome. A four jet torch brings immediate, or in just a few seconds, perfect vaping temps. Dial down the fire and you add more seconds getting to the click. With a quad, triple or double jet, the time to temp is very short. A candle may take up to 20 seconds but it is heating that oven nice and slow. Easy does it..Yum...

A single flame with its pinpoint precision is more challenging to a new Vapcapper than multiple flames which cover a greater general area of the cap. A quad will quickly bring you to the click without overheating. Stick to multiple flames if you are a novice.

Tip #3 - Find your sweet spot.

Where you apply heat to your cap makes all the difference. Heat low on the cap and your bowl temps are higher than heating the tip of the cap. This adjustment fine tunes the temperature of your bowl and it contents. Infinite variability is possible through your heat source by how/where on the cap you apply it. Experiment to find your sweet spot.

I begin by heating the lower half of the cap, near the digger putter. This creates an initial burst of heat. The second cycle has the heat concentrated in the middle section of the cap and the final cycle is heated near the top. This gives me toasty coloured ABV every time.

Practice often to find your sweet spot.

Tip #4 - Attract a magnet (or Dynastash/ER).

When I ordered my Dynastash and DynastashER, I really sort of expected them to be novelty items. Boy! Was I wrong. These tiny stashes are sooo cool and better yet, super convenient. They tuck away your vapcap and store your herb. They are small, dugout sized, fit easily in your palm and your pocket, are super attractive and just sooo handy. The ER has the added benefit of an extra silicone stash. It's meant for concentrate but I have been stuffing flower in it or you could use it for your ABV. Again, super handy. I haven't even mentioned the main attraction, the magnet. It keeps your cap stuck close by so it won't roll away. And it looks great doing it. It holds the cap for you when you're filling the bowl. Place your vapcap on it after a toke and it will cool the cap to the cooling click sooner. The Dynastash/ER just ties the room together so to speak and I don't feel like I have a bunch of random separate pieces cluttering the place up. Also, you can stash your stash by using the magnet to hold it to any ferris metal such as a table leg or your fridge. I hide a stash with its Vapcap on the back of a cast iron lantern that sits on my porch.

Tip #5 - Bigger is not better.

The bowl size is perfect; Small but not too small. Perfect and adjustable. I like to take a tiny nug and pop it in the bowl. No need to grind your herb or fiddle or fuss around when emptying the bowl.

The Vapcap taught me to microdose. You will save money on your herb. It will surprise you with its efficiency. Try gaping smaller and smaller amounts and you will find that less actually delivers the same effect.

Tip #6 - Lose the Loose Particulates.

I was so thrilled when I found the Vapcap and the surprisingly smooth vapor It delivers. But, I still experienced lung irritation from the tiny bits of plant material that would get past the screen and into the condenser. Some would stick to the inside of the condenser but some would make it into my lungs. A short bit of degummed hemp fiber can be fashioned into a flat disk shaped filter and sandwiched between two screens. This stops all particulate bits from making its way to your lungs. It creates an even smoother pontificating vapor and as a special bonus, it keeps your condenser unbelievably clean for a very very long time.

Tip #7 - Read the Thread

If you are ever depressed or disappointed by some act from a fellow human being, read the Dynavap thread. Not only will you learn about the Vapcap and its rapid evolution from a tiny efficient vape to the stunningly beautiful and masterfully engineered device and collectors item it is today, but you will appreciate the good will that shines through in the stories told here. It's not just that Sativa that's uplifting, the Vapcap has a positive vibe all its own.
I just saw this Squiby and want to express a few thoughts. First, I still have you to thank for rescuing me for that gang of hoodlums... err, I mean, alerting me to the vapcaps when I was almost set to go lotus.
With my new found admiration for the Omnivap, and my new induction heater on the way, I am so glad I made this choice.

I wonder how it must feel for you now that all of your contributions and your passion have paid off, with best of referances and resources. You can almost take a back seat role with a real sense of satisfaction I imagine.

Finally, when I got my Omni out last week to play with, I didnt bother with the quad torch. It is too aggravating for my hands, instead I used the single jet I got from dealextreme, originally recommended by @OF. I didnt want to stress my wrists. I tried at first, angling the single jet diagnally up the cap, hitting it around the middle.

But then I just aimed it pretty much dead center and straight, no angle. I kept it in the middle, just outside the blue flame. It worked perfectly. 3 heat cycles, no uneven charring, very smooth vapor, pleasant taste and full extraction in 3 cycles.

I make things from wood
Accessory Maker
Some woods can be very pungent and full of aromatic compounds. Cocobolo, Walnut, Ebony, Red Cedar, Yellow Cedar, etc can smell quite strong. The smell will fade over time and the wood will darken as the compounds oxidize but it will never go away completely. It's the same deal as Cinnamon, you're not going to be able to get the smell out of it.

The only thing that I question is the use of unground nugs. It leaves something to be desired ime. I also find it easier to use the VC to scoop ground herb out of a container as opposed to having to break off a nug.

Yesterday I tried something new - I used a fine grind topped with a bunch of kief. Filled it to the brim of my chamber which I have set to the smallest size, and fired it up - holy shit. We're talking thick white cotton clouds on the 2nd-3rd cycles, ultra potent vapor that caught me off guard making me cough because I had my finger on the milk-it button for too long. Nowhere near combustion, yet vapor so thick and satisfying that someone would think you're smoking. We need to declare the Vapcap the 8th wonder of the world.

I also always use ground material. I prefer a fine grind actually for instant thick vapor, but my herb is quite leafy and not very dusty.
I do pack a full bowl however. @Squiby uses micro loads. It is probably a diff thing to use a small unground bud, with plenty of air around it, vs a full pack of nug chunks, where the outside is toasted amd the middle not so.

@mccringleberry, unground buds works surprisingly well!
The two first hits are way more flavorful, that's insane! On top of that, that's a totally different flavor than an grounded material. We understate how grinders can destroy terpens and trichomes.

All you need to achieve efficiency (versus grounded material) , is to crush the nug after two or three heat cycles, in order to extract the remaining goodies.

Try it, you may be surprised!

@Mr. Me2 thank you man!
Matt has done miracles to get me a two toned amboyna burl and a matching mouthpiece.
He's a true master.
And the beauty of this assembly is beyond all my expectations...

Although this body is gonna trigger @Vapor_Eyes 's pareidolia hard :freak:

Out of curiousity, wouldnt the carbon body be a better choice since you dont like the wood smell?

Good idea, then if you wanted it to smell more, you could dip it in a bag of activated wood!

Help a TBI, CPTSD brother out?

I'm about to bite the bullet and switch to a VapCap as my full time Vape. After looking at the web site and attempting to read all 496 pages of this thread I had a melt down and knew less than when I started.

Money is of only distant and theoretical interest to me on this. I would much rather pay more and get the absolute best for my use. So no solid gold VapCap. But otherwise? Yes.

  • As tough as possible
  • Cool rather than hot
  • Bubbler compatible
  • Extra $ for aesthetics
  • Non concentrate
If I should just get a kitted up Burl or custom Omni? Great! The Omni makes no mention of compatibility while the Uni mentions compatibility and the Nonovong says "now available for water pipes".

If you were starting from scratch (with my criteria) and $ really wasn't an object what would you get? If you had just saved his pet ferret from a rottweiler what would a grateful VapCap gift you with?

He has a XL and according to the website, the carbon body is not available for the XL. So that would be a no-go unless he gets a non XL uni or an Omnivap, or Dynavap has a stash of XL-size carbon bodies that aren't on the website.

It's here, I like it, it definitely works as advertised, getting pretty ripped passing through the short learning curve.:ko: Watching Youtube vids definitely helped get the basic technique down quick. So far only vapor, no burning, and its so tiny! I slid a pen grip up over the glass to protect it, and just melted a small air hole for the carb.

I did notice that the cap is a little loose, and wants to slip off easily, I am hoping that is just new vape behavior, not yet gummed up or broken in. It just wants to fall off while I'm hitting it. **edit** I fixed the loose cap by ever so gently pushing on the scoop a little to make it bend slightly in towards the glass, it now grips well and works great! Still slides off easily when I pop it on the magnet.

Ahh didnt know that carbon XLS doesnt exist.

Can someone explain to me how the carb technique works?

Like im looking to get the ti carbon and im not sure how carbs work in general.

Like when im inhaling, im supposed to repeatedly cover and uncover the carb?? If so, is there a rythmn i tap to or like an indicator as to when to cover/uncover?

Pining for the Mountains
I'm looking for a flame based vaporizer for back packing trips and just general backup for when batteries are out of juice. Would appreciate some direction and if the OmniVap might be for me.

Background and desires for my vape: I typically either use an EVO or Volcano when at home, and a Crafty/Mighty for herb on the go, and a W9 Hercules for oil on the go. Point being, I like hard hitting vapes that deliver a punch while retaining good flavor. I'm a daily user with a high tolerance, I don't typically just take a hit or two and am done.

At one point, I had a Lotus, but it just never fully delivered imo. Perhaps I never mastered the technique, but I never got those thick satisfying hits I can get with my Crafty/Mighty.

A couple questions I have about the OmniVap. Can anyone estimate how many bowls in the OV would equal a full bowl in a Crafty/Mighty?

After finishing a bowl in the OV, how long does it take to cool to handling temperature? ie how long would I have to wait til I could load another bowl?

Does the DynaStash work with the OV? I'm assuming so, but don't see the Omni listed specifically in the DynaStash info.

I've seen talk of engraved caps, are these purchased from a 3rd party, or could this be done when I order the Omni from DynaVap?

So bottom line from those that use the EVO, Crafty/Mighty, Herc, do you think I'll be satisfied with what the Omni produces? Efficiency isn't top priority for me, but is a nice bonus. Thick, satisfying hits is my top priority.

Thanks!

Edit: regarding cleaning, I notice on the site they don't recommend alcohol, why is that? What's the issue with it? I just don't see how hot water will get it fully clean when a deep clean is needed. Obviously I could be wrong since I don't have one, but I've always needed alcohol for any other MJ related device previous.
