@Chandler if you search in Vapor Related Equipment, there's threads on Jyzarz and other storage products. The humidor you linked looks very overpriced. You can get a Wikki Humidor for much cheaper. I store in small mason jars with a 62% Boveda.

Edit: For soon-to-be-vaped material, I keep in a grinder. My vapman really appreciates herb drier than 62%.

Hello! Long time lurker, have had the vapman for about half a year now. I love the thing, but im constantly sketched out by the mica. So much so, when i noticed one of the tubes partially blocked by the mica, I gently scraped off little flakes until the hole had a clearer opening. I've no doubt that scraping around the tube entrances only increases the chance of inhaling rouge particles, so I put it back together, closed the middle holes, and blew air as hard as i could through the bowl tubes, just to be sure. The vapman looks no different, but now I'm almost afraid to use it for fear that I fucked up. Any insight? U guys are a great community to have found. Thanks!

@vapbrannigan Mica has been used by mankind for many centuries, it is silicate, the most common mineral on our planet. Because its glittering effect, it was and still is used in make ups and decorations of all kinds. Because it is safe and absolutely non toxic, mica became a very popular heat insulator in all sorts devices (hair dryers, toasters...) By the way, glass is also made of silicate. You could eat and inhale mica, there is no danger, it is not micro dust reaching your lungs. Long story short, mica has been tested longer than any other materials used in vaporizers, same as copper (10'000 years!).

Thank you,

vapman:)

Hey, what the Man said!

Perhaps 'everyone's favorite silicate' would be beach sand? Or desert sand...... The stuff lasts a very long time precisely because it doesn't react with other stuff. Start with a mountain, grind it up, wash the daylights out of it, grind it some more and eventually everything but the silicates gets removed. It takes a very long time, of course, but that's basically what's left after you get the easy stuff out. Pretty darn inert by my standards.

In a fun aside, way back before glass (melted silicates, cast and cooled.....) thin sheets of mica were used for lantern windows (so your candle didn't blow out in the wind....). Not really all that clear. Things musta got brighter when them guys in Venice got going? You also find mica window in to fireboxes on boilers so you can see if the fire is working not.

Chemically Silicon is like Carbon, but more so? That is in a world with Silicon Dioxide and Carbon Dioxide you don't break down any of the SiO2 until you're absolutely out of CO2. Once in the molecule, the Silicon and Oxygen hang on like grim death itself. Way harder than mere Carbon.........

Neat material, largely replaced by easier to deal with alternatives. IMO part of the charm of the deceptively complex and well thought out little guy. It seems 'right' on the classic VM. Better even with the tiny screws.

Really appreciate the opportunity to chat with the man himself here :D
Without touching it anymore now, but having scraped a hair's width or so from the tube openeings and (hopefully) blowing what dust may have collected far far away, what are the chances air drawn into the device could pick up little bits that now may not be held in place over time? And if I did inhale a flake, anyone know how the body deals with getting it out? I'd think apoptosis, but it seems a flake would be too big for that.

Ok! My precious has arrived. It came a few days ago, basically took a week to reach me from Switzerland. I've wanted to talk about it but i didn't put it to use until yesterday.

Impressions: Ebony wood Vapman

My initial reaction, pulling her out its matching black egg? Beautiful. The increased weight is noticed immediately. The finish is so smooth, caressing the midsection feels like silk. In comparison to my walnut Vapman, its almost night and day. Although they're essentially the same, the heft and finish cause the Ebony to feel more premium.

In use:
First session with ebony i had the pleasure of sampling willy wonka. The taste was incredible. Tasted like apricots. First I've tried herbs with that unique flavour. Next was two different strains of Jack herer. Again, flavour outstanding. Buzz. joyful, uplifting. Possibly /probably because i understand how to use Vapman now, my experience was different from my first Vapman whereas i was using a triple flame torch trying to learn it. End result i had a strong 'woody' flavour initially. With ebony, the wood flavour if present, is more neutral. It could be bias because I'm pleased, but the herb flavours seemed even more pronounced with ebony. I really liked the ebony stem as well.

In the end: i enjoyed each session with my ebony vapman. I'm well pleased. I feel the ebony possibly absorbs more heat. Got a little warmer than my walnut wood/would, and it retains the heat longer. Draws were smooth and wonderful, the feel is pristine, the weight is nice. I'd love to make it my daily driver, but I'm afraid to damage it. The shiny gold finish of the bowl, its smoothness. I don't want to corrupt it without having another. I think these beauty's would be best served with a station.

My walnut is my friend, i won't neglect it. My grandmother always used to say 'new broom sweeps well, but old broom knows the corners. Don't exchange old friends for the new'! Eventually I'll understand the best way for me to add ebony into rotation.

Well worth it imo. I'm anxious to try yew, or ash tree to further compare vapmans.

@vapman thank you very much. peripherals added to the package were much appreciated. Having conducted business with you was a pleasure. You definitely provide the ultimate in customer care/satisfaction

Gratitude

so it seems the heat up times differ between the plant used. For cannabis, what do you guys find is the best technique? I'm still struggling to get it evenly cooked without going into combustion mode a bit

I honestly have no "technique" I usually just torch it a bit in spurts and then check the mouthpiece to see if there is any vapor build up looking into the chamber.

First I'd be sure it was well cured (dry) going in. Try making it even dryer. Grind some (medium/fine) and then putting it in a warm place for a while. You want to try very dry (evaporating off a bunch of water, which has to happen before vapor, confuses stuff and takes heat and time best spent making vapor). Fill it snug, this is a conduction vape, conduction means direct contact is doing the work.

You have to store heat in the copper for the hit, so you need to meter heat going in. Keep the flame on the torch constant (I use the mouth of the VM as a gauge, the flame is as long as the opening is wide). I give it a 'five count' (probably about 4 seconds) of heat then try a hit. Then another 5 count if necessary to get vapor, even a third if needed. Once vapor starts you need only top up the heat, for me a 'three count' does the job if I don't wait too long.

It's a rhythm/timing deal once you get it loaded. Sneak up on it with more heat for longer times until you get there, then back off a bit for the reheat. There are some good YouTube videos around, perhaps watching a couple of them? There's even a fun one with a Swiss fellow in the backyard.......

You can use the magic eraser cleaning pads, f.i. from Mr.Clean. But also others similar products helps to keep the pan shiny and golden. I guess, every third or fourth pan I give a quick clean. Furthermore to use only a toothpick prevents the pan from being scratched.

I agree! The first draws, when the VM is already 'cold', give me the sensation that the vape is cooler than with other VMs. But after a pan, the VM needs a cooling time.
The weight gives devinitively a even higher feeling of quality, if at all it is possible with a VM.

With ebony, the wood flavour if present, is more neutral.
Yes, once again I agree.

:tup:thanks, i Was trying to clean my ebony this afternoon, it had dark residue stuck to the pan. Used a qtip to try n scrape it off. Ended up using my fingernail. Toothpick sounds like the best solution.

Need to get some of these. After using the cleaning pads do you wipe out the pan so as not to vape any of those chemicals?
Yes, once again I agree.
Glad to be of like mind with a true VM connoisseur

Hey. Just noticed my FC status jumped from 'new member', to 'well known member'!

Yes, I do, but there really are chemicals in the classical sense. The material is hardened glue foam (Melamine), and works very much like fine sandpaper or steel wool would. No real chemical/solvent action going on, it's mechanical. I wouldn't want to eat it or try vaping it so I wipe the debris away with a damp swab:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine_foam

BTW you can buy the generic version MUCH cheaper, like:
https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Cleaning-Eraser-Sponge-Melamine/dp/B01M0HQLHE

You might try them, you'll be amazed with what they can do to that nasty hard water film in the shower.....

Oh, my, that's a big old goof......... I only left out one tiny word, two little letters, but it changes things 180 degrees. That should have read ".....but there really are NO chemicals in the classical sense". Big difference. No chemical reactions going on, just materials behaving chemically inert.

The glue is very hard but he walls very thin and brittle (notice how light it is dry?). The foam 'breaks down' to conform with the surface then scrapes stuff off at the microscopic level. No solvents, not even any soaps or detergents.

I'm sorry for the confusion (if any), but like so much in life by the time I realized I'd screwed up it was too late to correct.

Good weekend to all.

Does anyone else enjoy taking whiffs through the nose in the process of warming up their Vapman?

I find that if I heat my Vapman just barely below the proper "operating temp" for a puff, I can just bring the mouthpiece near (not into) my nose and with the side holes obstructed, I can sample some very pleasant and flavorful lungfuls of herbal fragrance before proceeding to a higher temperature. For novice Vapman users like myself who often overshoot that "sweet spot", this seems like a very reliable way of experiencing those tasty first few hits.

I find its best to let the heat dissapate a bit between heating bursts. Try the 5 sec bursts or whateve your preference but leave longer gaps .. this will let the heat dissapate more and hopefully cook more evenly .. alternatively your lighter could be too big of a flame?

Theres some good videos of i believe @WakeAndVape using the vm

Time not only flies when you're having fun, it can also pass very quickly when you are aiming for a goal within a schedule. This is happening to me with the station, the year is slowly but surely heading towards the end and the station is still not out yet. This wasn't my plan but life is getting in my way daily.;)

Anyway, I'm late but still on track, the station will come before the end of the year, here are some teasers for the ones waiting for it. Thank you for the patience!

Hey @Gourmet, you like vaping many different herbs, have you heard anything about Bay Leaves?

This guy says they are psychoactive... doesn't sound true to me. I'm sure I would have seen something from Terence McKenna about this before...
