Sad, but true; an epic fail of my Zephyr Ion. Turned it on today and it put out "vapor" right away. I was surprised it was so fast but, stupid me just threw the bag on. So, it looked very dense and kinda yellow in the bag, then the base of the bag melted. I turned it off, unplugged it, and opened the lid to find my product burned and with a smell that reminded me of the combustion days. I turned it over to check the filter; it was clean, but there is something large loose inside. So I'm panicked and have e-mailed Bruce to save me.
Oh man, that is terrible news. I have not gotten your email, if you sent it to the admin email on the website it will take a minute to get to me. bruce@zephyrvaporizers.com is the fastest way to get results. NO need to panic, you will be taken care of asap and any ION with an issue gets replaced/repaired right away.
I will say that there were a few of the very early IONs that had a heat sync issue. THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED. The heat sync stops the ION from getting over-hot and also shuts it down if it does.
I would bet that if you tried to turn your unit on, it would not heat at all.
This is a built in safety feature, if the machine senses that it is too hot it will shut down the heating element. The ION heats quickly by first going over temp and then backing back down, with some of the early heat syncs the element would get past the point of combustion and then back down. If the air pump was turned on before the screen turned from red to green, the unit was likely over hot. As i have stated, we became aware of this and have fixed it on current and future models.
**Edit** That large loose thing inside is likely the airpump. It sits on rubber feet to dampen the noise when it is running. If you wiggle your ION you will feel it move around on the inside, this is normal.
