Next we set out to do another two max temp burn-offs using the WPA. Right from the start there was "a chemical" taste/smell. After the second burn-off the taste/smell was still just as strong so we set the WPA aside until we can cure the WPA. We put the original mouthpiece back on and did another set of max temp mouth pumps as a back-check and the WPA smell/taste was faintly there and looks to have transferred. By the end of the burn-off the smell/taste was gone again. Anyone else run into this with the WPA and if/so what did you do fix it? Is it the silicone?

Which WPA? There is a silicone sleeve adapter but the way you describe it I think you're talking about the glass adapter. Regardless, I just checked both of mine and got no silicone smell or taste, but maybe you are more sensitive than me.

On a different nore, Xmax recently asked me to try their new dosing capsules:

20220505-v3procapsules-001.png

They are:

● 304 Food Grade stainless steel
● Dimensions: 10.7mm*10.8mm
● Capsule capacity: 0.1-0.15g
I don't use dosing capsules and don't have a requirement for them, but I can see the attraction for some. There's been discussion here about using screens to minimize or prevent any material from dropping through onto the heater. These would certainly help with that.

Of course they are also convenient if you want to pack along a couple of quick-change loads when you're out and about. I did my best to shake loose the caps and couldn't dislodge them, although I haven't yet carried one around in my pocket. I expect they will pass that test.

When I first inserted one I had a little trouble removing it from the V3 Pro, but after the first use it dumped out easily. It could have been that individual capsule. My problem with them is probably obvious: they rob heat and so I had to increase my temperatures. That's not a huge deal unless you really need max temp all the time. I didn't notice much change in draw resistance but I didn't actually test for that. They do make cleaning much simpler, although I wasn't having issues with that.

I'm talking about the WPA with the glass not the one that's made of silicone. It looks like both the glass WPA and regular mouthpiece both have some silicone internally around the screen. Not sure why the regular mouthpiece had no smell/taste while the glass WPA did since they look the same in terms what was used as a gasket around the screen.

I believe you may be correct that we are more sensitive to these types of smells. I've had a vape and an air fryer that my wife and I couldn't use because of the same smell that others could smell but didn't feel was enough to ruin the utilization.

Before putting the glass WPA though the burn-offs there was nothing to smell. Doing a max temp burn-off with constant mouth pumping brought out the smell/taste and once it appeared it remained even without the heat.

Got the V3 Pro late yesterday. I'll put together a full review once we work through the usual new vape steps. In the meantime....

We're currently working through the burn-offs. Max temp, 6 minute timer and constant mouth-pumping. Can definitely get the vape and the standard mouthpiece hot this way but not so hot that its unusable which is impressive considering how I deliberately set out to heat stress it. There was, as others have mentioned, the usual new electronics smell that was very minor to start off with and after 2 max temp burn-offs was no longer noticeable.

Next we set out to do another two max temp burn-offs using the WPA. Right from the start there was "a chemical" taste/smell. After the second burn-off the taste/smell was still just as strong so we set the WPA aside until we can cure the WPA. I'll hold off using flower until I can cure the WPA because I don't want to mask the issue.

I disassemble the mouthpieces, to soak and rinse the silicone a bit, along with the other parts (except for the plastic shell of the regular mouthpiece) silicone can be tricky.

By the way, are you saying you do burn offs, with the mouthpiece attached, and literally inhaling all the burn off?? That sounds so bizarre to me, I always run a burn off without the lid on, so it can air out, as I smell to gauge its neutralization over time (back to back full length sessions at max temp)

Yes-We do burn-offs with the mouthpieces attached BUT we don't inhale to the lungs. We do a constant "Mouth-pumping" so we can taste the goodness.

EDIT: What did you soak them in? I have used a sequence of ISO soak, water rinse, dishwashing soap/water, water rinse, milk soak and a final water rinse in a worst case. The V3 doesn't feel like "a worst case" though.

Oh so I don't think a burn-off is effective if the mouthpiece is attached, I guess you are mouth pumping so that is getting the flow, but then you have to clean the mouthpiece afterwards? I also wouldn't want that taste in my mouth even without inhaling, personally!

Everything gets a "native" burn-off right out of the box with mouth pumping. The mouth pumping is constant. I want to experience it before cleaning it - I've found that cleaning things before use can "mask" an issue depending on the cleaning agent. Kind of why I don't use flower before verifying through burn-offs.

Yeah I do smell everything first, but I wouldn't want to use a mouthpiece out of the box, I don't know where it's been? Like that kind of stuff, I don't know I just don't trust the manufacturing processes to be clean for most items, it depends vape to vape, but yeah I can usually smell before it's even turned on, knowing that I don't want to load any herbs (correct those would mask smells and tastes, making it tough to tell when it is even neutralized) yet, or inhale or mouth pump from it (which I might not even know how to do properly lol) ...Anyway!

@Shit Snacks - now you got me thinking...(some might debate whether that's even possible but still)....

Since I didn't clean anything before the burn-offs could I be burning the smell/taste into the item and making it harder to remove?

I don't want to derail the thread though...I searched but didn't find a "How do you do your burn-off" thread.

Hahaha that sounds like your SO talking, I know you can think my dude! :ko:

I'm pretty sure I have seen a thread about burnoffs in Ask FC or something somewhere before, unfortunately it really can be different for every vape, but I treat these like I would session style conduction burnoffs... Yeah I like to do a little iso swab first, but it came up clean, but yes I think when you are running the burnoffs with brand new silicone in the mouthpiece attached, that could affect the overall flavors? That's probably part of why for me the mouthpiece is always a separate neutralization process...

These look a lot like the POTV One dosing capsules that I use in my V3Pro. I like the POTV One capsules because the fit perfectly in the oven, reduce the size of the load to a single-session amount (for me), don't affect vapor production too much, and keep everything cleaner. My ABV is definitely lighter than without the capsules, but I still get 1 big, 1 medium, and one small hit from a single capsule.

First I have to clarify I'm talking about the "Glass" WPA not the all silicone version.

I did a simple "deep clean" as described in the instruction manual followed by a soak in some hot soapy water and a final water rinse and dry. I only cleaned the glass WPA because burn-off/testing of the unit and regular mouthpiece went well. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the WPA came apart and how easy it went back together. A 6 minute max temp burn-off while constantly mouth pumping proved the smell/taste issue was gone.

Maiden voyage....Filled it with flower and used it without water for the first two hits and then used it inverted with a D020-D bubbler and a 14mm adapter. My wife said she is very happy with it. I am too.

I owned 2 Xmax V2 pros and one is still in working order.....it sure has come a long way.

I've been testing these as well and I agree with pretty much everything Pak said. I also have trouble getting the capsule out if the chamber is even a little bit dirty.

My main gripe is the delay in vapor production during a session. It takes me 5 hard pulls to get equivalent vapor that a capsule-less load puts out on my second pull. Even when bumping temps to compensate, the delay persists.

To be fair, my opinion may be due to the fact that I'm not a fan of capsules in general and that might be apparent by my lack of enthusiam for these capsules in particular. They simply rob too much heat from the herb to be practical IMHO. :2c:

Thinking about picking one up as well, it's just so cheap for what by all accounts should be a very capable performer. I'll mostly be using it for when I go walking the dog stuff like that. I read some comments about the bowl being hard to clean though?
Where did you read that? No, no the bowl isn't difficult to clean if, like others said, you empty it right after the session while still hot and a q-tip to remove the last bits. Maybe you confused with the vaporpath in the mouthpiece... not very difficult but I agree it's better to do it in a regular basis to avoid too much build-up reduces the airflow.

Wow, that's a lot of burn-offs! I would recommand to start with a whole cleaning of the bowl and vaporpath with q-tip and ISO, and with Q-Tip and distilled water and finally one burn-off, no need for more cause only the heating wires are heating up when the device is powered on unlike for a conduction designed vape where you have a whole ceramic/stainless steel bowl to heat-up. With the V3Pro the idea isn't to heat-up the bowl but the content of the bowl. Although I can understand everybodyelse sensitivity to be pretty different about smells/odors.

Thank you for sharing about our dosing caps, I'm not a fan of dosing caps myself but I adopted them when I'm out of the home, in term of convenience that's definitively the best!
About size, we designed this capsules to avoid an issue related to dosing caps, if not wide enough it may happen some hot air bypass the load going beween the bowl's wall and the dosing caps wall. please, clean your bowl as well as possible before to use the dosing caps to avoid they stuck in the bowl.

These look a lot like the POTV One dosing capsules that I use in my V3Pro. I agree they look pretty similar but they aren't exactly the same, top lid is different and, the most important, they are wider than the ones you are speaking about, this is means less (no?) air bypass the load going through the bowl's wall and the cap's wall. So you can expect to get a darker abv out of our dosing caps!

Aah that's good to know! I'm so glad you are finally happy with your V3Pro, it's very different than its big brother the V2Pro, the V2Pro is probably the older portable battery powered vaporizer still manufactured (and with pretty good sales rate too!) and one I continue to enjoy, especially since I made a custom wood mp in order to reduce its size.
I've been testing these as well and I agree with pretty much everything Pak said. I also have trouble getting the capsule out if the chamber is even a little bit dirty.

About the caps remove I replied to Pak about why we made it to fit so tight, keep your bowl pretty clean before to insert the caps.

About the vapor production, yes you need to let the device/heater to heat soak a little after it reached the selected T° take looong puffs in order to heat soak the load and capsule, as well to load a little only helps to fasten the vapor production... using that technic I can get hits which are approximatively 80% of the size of the ones I have without, so yes there is a little loss in cloudage but a a few more hits to take.... and a huge convenience gain when vaping outdoors.

PLEASE, BEFORE TO USE THE DOSING CAPS TRY TO CLEAN YOUR BOWL AS WELL AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID DOSING CAPS TO BE STUCK IN THE BOWL, WHEN IT'S CLEAN THE DOSING CAP SLIDE OUT OF THE BOWL BY ITSELF!

I have not enjoyed caps either (apart from the Evo basket mod for the old CF/x) but I am enjoying the capsules in the V3 Pro, especially during a 2nd heat cycle (I find I am starting lower in the temps and enjoying an extended sesh early in the day) as a bit of conduction seems to creep in and help with extraction with less lung work. I like how it changes the vape signature a bit as I am a one-strain consumer variety helps.
They are also a perfect fit on the end of my hip flask funnel for filling and I like having them set up ready for a movie...quick hot swaps at higher temps as stated for another slightly different experience.

I have not had any trouble with the caps sticking in my brand new unit. I then realised there was a bit of build up on the inside top of the ovens on my older units that caused some sticking until I iso q-tipped the build-up off the warm oven walls...now all are slippery again.

One downside I've run into with the glass WPA .... when using it inverted with my D020-D there is that point in each draw where we clear the bubbler by lifting the V3 Pro up and off for second. The magnets in the glass WPA are strong but not strong enough to hold tight when/if the glass WPA sticks to the bubbler momentarily ...... The glass WPA mouthpiece comes off and remains stuck to the bubbler and the herb spills out.

A mouthpiece or stem getting stuck to a bubbler isn't uncommon and is something that some of my other vapes do .... its easily fixed by simply keeping a finger on the mouthpiece/stem when lifting/clearing the bubbler.

The same problem happened to the Tera so they made an interference fit WPA that ended up cracking a heap of ovens...I think the best thing to fix the problem and is just great for all bong vapers is a cloud buddy or kleisen adapter,

I love how efficient and tasty this device is for sessions. Been using it a lot in the house, it's just so easy to grab. The experience reminds of when I first tried the liquid nicotine vaping style, effortless and imo sort of a natural level of draw resistance. I enjoy the hits a lot. Now taste wise its strongpoint is that during the session it never gets this stale devoid-of-freshness taste many other vaporizers tend to give. Also nice that even with heavy use the buildup in the mouthpiece doesn't really start to negatively affect taste yet.

I used mainly dry in 4x6min sessions:
  1. 150 Celsius
  2. 170
  3. 190
  4. 210
Last one sometimes a bit shorter. 7-8 smooth and easy inhalations of ~25 sec. per temp step (except the final). I fill the bowl real easy by resting my herb ripper mini on the rim and scooping weed out with the mp tool in my other hand. I fill the chamber to the brim and I pack it medium tight. AVB pretty even dark brown.

I never tried the previous versions but it would've been interesting to have followed its iterations and I for sure will watch what's coming from this company and especially a v4 pro. It seems like v3 pro really breaks a pricing floor for the experience it delivers, especially considering the discounts available. I know I've been recommending it like crazy lol. Nice to see the company's involvement with the community also, even crowdsourcing user feedback.

Despite the naming, this is the first version of this product, the name just reflects their previous popular product v2pro (the original xmax v1 and v2 were improved based upon FC member feedback) which is just session conduction ceramic tube oven, it is quite frankly imo, really nothing like the v3pro

Another water piece that is proving to be pretty phenomenal with the xmax v3pro, although the glass is pretty thin so I think its a bit overpriced ($50 on eBay and $60 from Hemper, but wholesale for more like $20 each if buying 10) though it is hard to find a piece with this form factor and I wanted to try a little milk ball orb... This one has five hole shower head perc beneath the sea turtle and can hold a decent amount of water or work fine with very little...

day one mods:

no noticeable negative impact on the already somewhat restricted airflow.
fine mesh should keep things cleaner.

purple 3d flow stem fits great in the WPA "silicone" part (is that really silicone? kinda smells like not ...)
love the purple looks but the slightly different shade on the battery cover triggers my OCD big time.

now onward to more testing :)) wish me luck, seems this thing requires powerful suck :))

edit: these fit (mp off), not great not terrible. i'd love to see official silicone caps or sleeve for carry.

Just bought one from vapefully in europe for 73 euros (they have it in discount for now).

Also bought the glass mouthpiece and a spare 18650 2200mah battery from them, hopefully the battery is ok for this one (the site says that it is ok for xmax 2 or storm but those batteries are universal so...)

Unfortunately after my a break from combustion a couple of years ago i just returned to combustion because vaporizers can't really simulate the ritual of a joint but now we have these on demand devices that kinda fill the role, i had an og grasshopper but vapor was harsh, the device was hot af and the battery life was abysmal, the only plus point was the form factor and absurd fast heating.

If i can get behind what the xmax 3 has to offer, my next purchase is probably gonna be a tinymight and maybe an anvil because i like super strong hitter. (I have a titanium wood dynavap but it doesn't hit super hard and i don't like that weak bit of wood flavour that sometimes i taste, the omni is another option i have)

My question is, how much does the herb cook while in on demand mode when you stop inhaling? They say it is pure convection but we all knnow that if the ss bowl retain some hottness your herb still cooks a bit even if the cooling is fast.

I switched again to vaporization because illegal weed here where i live is super duper pricey so i needed something to cut my consume, it's gonna be hard to return to only use vaporizer with zero combustion, hopefully the xmax 3 is as good as many people say.

Sorry for the unwanted train of thougth, i just re-subscribed (i was wolf46 with the vapor pokemon avatar but i forgot my password lol) and i really don't have anyone close to me to talk about vaporizer so i always talk a lot when i have someone listening :D

P.s. sorry for my english, it's not my native language, so happy to be back here guys.

Not much if at all if you release the button just before you finish your inhale.
Thanks Les, but how is that possible? Doesn't the ss oven retain some heat from the hot air passing throught?!

I mean i'm very happy if true since this is always my main doubt with on demand vapes but it's just surprising that a relatively cheap device achieved this result.
