Volcano Hybrid

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I don't have privilege to create a new topic, but does anyone have any advice for a whip + WPA for a Volcano Digit? I see the Elev8r glass kit but it's quite expensive ($33 USD) postage to Australia. Any advice to DIY one or a cheaper option?
Any old food grade silicone tubing will do well for a new whip. The standard sizing for the Hybrid whip is 1/2"OD, 3/8"ID (or 12.7mm OD, 9.525mm ID metric).

No advice for a WPA, sorry!

How would I attach the tubing to the Volcano Digit bowl though?

You would either need to pick up the Elev8 glass adapter kit, or get creative with some stoner engineering.

I think the valves are similar enough between the Hybrid/Digit, you may be able to just grab one of these babies. Not 100% sure this would work and similarly overpriced, so buy at your own risk.

I suppose you could also try just slipping the tubing on to the easy valve as well... silicone is really heat tolerant. YMMV

Whips get dirty and stink, I don’t get why connecting whips to a digit since with forced air you also lose some vapor. If I needed more filtration I’d rather connect a full bag on top of a water piece with a female 18.8 opening, no adapter required with the easy valve.

I've "settled" on bag to bong instead of an Obsidian in my quest to hydrate the Hybrid vapor. I tried the whip with a WPA but as you say, whips get dirty and stink so I'll save that for when I want to only use the whip which is practically never. At the beginning of a bowl when I'm not going past 200C/392F the vapor isn't too bad but the later bags kill my throat.

Tried out a glycerin freezer coil yesterday!

A lot of people hate on these, but I thought the effect was quite nice. I ripped a bowl at 205C in like 10 minutes - the coil did great at keeping the vapor palatable. Pulled some huge clouds!

The best part of the Obsidian imo is that it greatly extends the life of a whip. If you hang dry it after each session and rinse with iso every once in a while they can last a year without getting gross, easy.

With the coil, even less water gets into the whip. I'll probably use this often for that benefit alone.

Happy 420 weekend y'all 😎

Quick question, I sometimes get an error when I run a workflow off the Storz app off my phone. In particular when I try Troy's one bag to rule them all, when it gets to the 399 temperature, it sometimes just cuts out at 399 and turns off. It happens maybe 25 percent of the time now. It's 100 percent not the auto shut off either, as it has happened after just having turned on the device. Thank you

If you're in warranty I'd get ahold of S&B and see what they say. If you can send them a video, or a link to a video that would be even better. You could try the app on another device as well to rule out your phone. Does it do it at the higher temp only? I've never heard of this before.

it literally only happens when I use the app, and in particular work flows. I might contact them but I'm not sure if the problem is big enough for me to go without the volcano for a few weeks lol!

Did you try a different device? Good to rule that out first but then I'd contact them and see what they say. Could be the start of something bigger? If you don't have another vape you could use this as an opportunity to get another lol. The VAS is always strong.

I came across a Reddit post (I don't have the link but I offer my thanks to the original poster) from a fellow 'Cano owner talking about how he rigged up some china glass to water filter the vapor between the device and bag. Basically a poor mans Obsidian. This piece is not a knockoff of the Obsidian/Magma and so it doesn't work quite as nicely as I presume those do but it was $35 (CAD) to my door so no complaints. I just needed an o-ring for the top of the housing chamber that seals against the glass; I am using one from my Maxx (iirc) which works, but the ID should be slightly larger as it pops off when I remove the glass. I also needed a 19mm female to 14mm male glass adapter to allow the bag to go on top and then the bag sits securely despite the lack of a "ridge" to latch onto.

I loaded up a full bowl for the first time last night, started at 170°C/338°F and over 4/5 bags gradually temp stepped up to the max temp. The vapor was noticeably smoother than going dry and this will be the only way I use my Hybrid going forward I enjoyed it so much! I still find the vapor a little harsher than my convection devices but this was just what I needed to really enjoy my Hybrid again. It's best for a group setting but having a full bowl is usually a sure fire sleeping pill. Here's the glass I bought. Don't forget the adapter.

We’ve got all your WPA needs taken care of! You can also connect the whip attachment to an older digit or classic with our bubblers. Cheers!

 Do you get any increased resistance from the coil? That's quite the set up you've got! We're jealous :)

None to speak of! It's a pretty cool setup *ba-dum tshhh*

Only downside is that water sometimes gets trapped in the joint, and can leak down onto the Volcano when pulling off the coil. Gotta get creative with a towel to keep her dry!

Yup, that's a great alternative to ours! We've actually tried those out ourselves, and found a few things that make it a bit less desirable than ours.

First, the tree perc conductance is not matched to the Volcano, and it restricts the air flow much more than it should. The Volcano fan is a tank and shouldn't have any problems with it, but I'm always wary about stressing out mechanical components like that.

Second, and most obvious, is the necessary 18-14mm adapter needed. This might actually be the worst part, as the China-made 18mm on top is not exactly up to US National Glass Standards, and has a tendency to mate poorly with the adapter. This poor mating in conjunction with the conductance issue above, and the internal chamber volume not properly matched for the bubbling action with air flow, can cause water to bubble over the top of the bubbler and into the joint connector, which can leak out and into your Volcano.

Lastly, it's poor quality glass (ours broke with a small tilt over, not even a fall), and I personally don't like waiting months for delivery (it took like 40 days or something crazy when I ordered). There's also no customer service if something goes wrong or you have questions (which, from personal experience in the last 5 years making these, there's always someone with some question that needs answering), and if you get a defect your SOL (whereas we just want to know what could have gone wrong in our production/QA that allowed your defect to exist so we can fix it, and then replace it for free ASAP).

If you're ok with those risks, have at it! In the meantime, we'll be here for your Official Volcano Bubbler needs/questions/comments/concerns :)

My hybrid use has changed over the last year. I used to primarily use the whip through a bubbler. I picked up a weedeater recently so I use that about 50%, and now I use the hybrid bags the other 50% approx.
I'm using the reducing chamber w/dosing caps and get 1 bag @ 200C and toss the AVB. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I would like to know the routine of other people. This gives me one good tasty bag and I get highly medicated. I'm happy with that for the 0.15g I use per bag.

I suggest you to get XL bags other than vape less than 0.15gr per bag.
.15g in a regular bag imho is overkill other than leaving lots of unvaped cannabinoids.
I can only speak for my Digit but my use is like this:
I use different amounts, from 0.020 to 0.10/12 per bag and use exclusively XL bags. Usually temp is 230C and sometimes it's 192C if I'm chasing for flavor.
If I microdose I fill the bag with a couple hits worth.
I feel like regular bags are underdimensioned, and most of all I think that heating the Volcano chamber more than once is a waste of cannabinoids, especially on the Hybrid which has more conduction. I prefer XL bags to squeeze out all the vapor at once, and don't mind for whispy bags.
I tried denser bags+water path as well, but then realized that way I only lose cannabinoids along the way in order to avoid coughing a lung, plus the extra work of cleaning and risk of glass breakage. Much prefer less dense bags with no need of glass.

I never thought about the larger bags, but that's a good idea. I find with the hybrid, it comes out a light brown using like I mentioned. Its definitely got a touch of life left, but a bigger bag will squeeze out more for sure.

To summarize everything that is known at the moment. Are plastic parts in Filling Chamber are fully safety? Have they been really updated after melting issues in 2019-2020? I am hypochondriac:) And theoretically, how can fumes from plastic parts get into the bag? It's just a housing around chamber, and the chamber itself sealed. Or no? Maybe there are some materials science specialists and engineers:)
And are any plasic parts in Classic?

anyone have good tips for getting good bags out of the reduction chamber? I get typically 1 bag, is that normal?
