I get the HG2 Batteries from http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-LG-Brown-HG2-18650F-HIGH-DRAIN-3000mAh-20A-Rechargeable-Battery-18650/391755879043?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
The price is listed as $21..... but there is an option to make an offer.
I offered $16 twice and the offer was accepted both times.

I have read too many posts where people mention counterfeit batteries being sold by and to the general public. I have seen specific warnings that advise against buying batteries from EBay or even Amazon.

I have had GREAT service from imrbatteries.com and others have mentioned it as well.

For the same price or even $1 more per battery I personally would buy from imrbatteries.com.

Hey guys,

So what is the consensus as of today about this vape?
Those of you who have it do you recommend it despite the issues with the top cap?
It seems that the second version of the top cat still give some issues to some?

Are you able to use tiny amounts in the bowl for microdosing effectively? I hear this is a convection vape like the crafty correct?

THanks

Hi everyone thanks for the battery info I ended getting two Samsung 25R battery's and a charger the vape should arrive tomorrow looking forward to trying it out. From what I have read vapequest2017 this vape performs very well compared to the crafty but features a removable battery which is what made me order one as in my experience with portable vapes it's the battery that usually goes first and can be expensive to have replaced by the manufacturer but I suppose we will have to wait and see how reliable it is compared to the crafty.I also think it's a mostly convection vape.

I just received my Alternate yesterday via dhgate heaven_gifts. Ordered on 2017-06-01, it was mailed on 2017-06-10 and received in EU 18 days later. It came with the V2 topcap.
I had to air out the base unit a long time (a batteries worth at least) before the plastic taste was down to a level where it didn't cause a headache.
At first I heated a bunch of empty bowls with the device resting on top of a cup, with a fan blowing on the device. But after a while, I decided just to blow into the device for a good 10 minutes while constantly re-heating the bowl. The blowing method seemed to get the plastic taste out fairly quickly!

They should make the whole device from the topcap plastic, as it doesn't seem to have the smell and it feels more dense & robust anyways. The base unit feels quite Meh, but reasonably impact resistant, due to the springiness of the plastic.

With a fully charged Sanyo NCR18650GA, this thing heats from 30->185 C in 1m20s. While the heating element is hot, the coil resistance goes from 0.51 to more like 0.65ohm, supposedly making the current draw only 5ish amps. I'm Very happy with my battery choice :)

I don't like the look of the positive battery terminal: (sadly, it's very hard to get a good picture of it..):
2XieUae.jpg

It's only making contact with the battery terminal from a very small area. I suspect the positive battery button-terminal is horizontally spring loaded which skews the contact angle like that. My other vape has a vertically spring loaded battery button and it gets perfect contact.

Ugh, tbh, I'd like to see 5, 10 sec and 30 sec timers.... The vapor that comes out of this device is Really potent and 60 seconds of it can often be too much :p
And tbh, it feels kinda wasteful, every time having to heat up such a big thermal mass for a couple of hits.. but that is the price you pay for convection and flavor!

By the way, why is the display so flickery? If you wave the device in the air and keep your eyes on the display, it creates a trippy POV effect. I find it disorienting :D

PS. Even at Buzzer level 1, I found 3 sets of beeps to be excessive when people are sleeping in the next room... The red/green light is a bit too dim to get my attention, and they should be on both sides of the device!

so is this unit from dhgate a clone of the vivant or the vivant company in the USA is just buying these chinese already made units and just marketing them in the USA as if they created them?
I thought these didn't have a plastic smell.

Yes. It's a Chinese made vaporizer. I really think almost all plastic bodied vaporizers are except for a few. And even then I'd be skeptical of them not being somewhat made in China. Just my thoughts.

I agree and have no issues with made in china if it's well made.

My question was more geared to know whether this brand and vape was the creation of a Chinese manufacturer or Vivant is a USA company that created the product here in the US. Since I have seen this vape on alibaba as well with the branding and box just as they sell it form vivant's website, I was inclined to think that it was a chinese manufacuter's made vape with branding and all.

I'm not sure what that answer would be. I believe it's a US designed vaporizer. But I could be totally wrong.
I've seen it mentioned a few times about this being a convection style vaporizer, however I'm in the camp of this being a 100% conduction style vaporizer. As soon as I turn the heater on if you put your finger in the bowl as it heats it will burn you. I'm not sure how any convection heating could be taking place. Who knows I could be wrong. Although it seems almost all of the new designed vapes coming from China claim to be "true" convection vaporizers.

I've officially read this entire thread. stopped around page 30 when i realized all the caps kept melting but recently have caughten up in the past week. I finally decided to pull the trigger. Too good of a price and even with the 2nd version of the top cap cracking there is always the crafty CU modificiation which seems pretty dope! Hoping this will take the spot for all my portability needs. Just got it today so we'll see how it goes!

Cheers everyone.

Hi, I can clear this up.
Vivant is a USA based company. The designers/engineers are in California. Nice guys too.
The vape itself is manufactured in China.
The units on DHGate are legit units, made on the same assembly line, same parts, same workers - but DHGate is not an authorized USA retailer, so technically units purchased there are without warranty. (Unless this has changed and I didn't see)

After much internal debate I just ordered an Alternate + CCU. I really really want another Crafty but after 2 warranty returns in less than 5 months of owning one I think this is the best alternative. Having the swappable battery in a Crafty-like vape is going to be sweet.

Just in case anyone is looking for a deal without waiting for shipping from China there's a couple guys on eBay selling them for $75 shipped. Not sure if they come with updated mouthpiece or not but since v2 is still cracking apparently I guess who cares? All together with the Alternate, Crafty cooling unit, and 1 LG HG2 battery just to have an extra, it was $100 and change.

Can anyone compare the flavor between the Crafty and Alternate while the Alternate is using a Crafty cooling unit?

BTW thanks @dtaxx for the mod.

IIRC at some point Vivant changed the 90 day warranty to 1 year (I think) for FC members who buy legit (non-ebay or Dhgate etc)?

Volute of Vapor
Like a lot this vape, vapor is very potent and it vapes very well loose pack, tight pack, micro dose and hasch alone. Need more testing with the oil pad cause first try was disappointing but not made under very good conditions...

Did you pre heat the empty bowl before to insert the pad (that's what I done)?

I got mine with the Crafty mp and the 2nd edition mp but I'm feeling the Vivant mp seems a lot better quality than the Crafty one... so I used it exclusively and still not notice any sort of deterioration.

What about cleaning... I read it's better to dilute the iso to not affect plastic parts... actually I try to whip the sticking parts with coton while still hot... it helps but parts are still slightly sticky... any tips?

Hello @HD Springer,

I'd like to assure you that the Vivant Alternate is primarily a convection vaporizer. The reason it can take a little longer to heat up and uses more battery than conduction vaporizers, is that it needs to heat up the entire spiral-shaped heating chamber in order to ensure that the correct temperature gets transferred to the air being drawn into the unit and through the product.

I say the Alternate is "primarily" convection only because some of that energy from the heating chamber is passed along to the bowl just because that's what heat does, so there's inherently a little bit of conduction heating as well. The engineers told me it'd be counterproductive to implement a design just to keep the bowl cool, since there'd be an overall loss of energy and therefore a shorter battery life.

As far as the other concerns that have been brought up, @ohmygodimsohigh did a very good job at summarizing the situation for me. Thank you!

Thank you all, and have a great weekend, everyone! :)

Hi everyone just an update on my new alternate that arrived yesterday I have been really enjoying the performance of the vape and I think the stealth factor is really underrated as not only is the unit very small it also barely emits any smell at all(coming from a pax 1 and 2 they have anyone within 50 foot sniffing the air thinking who's on the weed). Sadly how ever after 10 sessions on 370f and removing the mouthpiece until the oven had cooled my V2 mouthpiece has developed 5 cracks around the usual places I don't think there erecting performance yet and luckily I was given a spare mouthpiece . I have also noticed two hairline cracks on the steel band inside the oven walls . Although I knew the mouthpiece was a problem before i bought the vape I was thinking it was more to do with long extended sessions at high temps looks like that's not the case hopefully the V3 mouthpiece sorts it once and for all and we don't have a pinnacle pro like problem were they slowly melted to death no matter how much care they were given. PS I do really love this vape so much so that I may sell my pax 2 and buy another alternate for a back up. Stoned rant over thanks for reading.

Can you microdose with this vape? I mean to add very little, like a pinch, so you can get just enough vapor to get you going without a high?

With the discount for the 4th of july this is super tempting.

Hi everyone can someone give me some advice about battery capacity I have seen a few 18650 battery's with 6000mah 3.7v and 20amp drainage compared to the 2500mah Samsung's and 3000mah LG battery's do you folks think these higher capacity battery's would be safe in the alternate assuming the are genuine I think I would get nine to ten sessions on one of these 6000mah battery
