VAS: Vape Aquisition Syndrome The malady we love to hate

One of the rules I’ve tried to actualize over the years is that vaping should retain focus on harm reduction. For me that means an emphasis on smoothness.

Even with a powerful heavy hitter I don’t personally recommend or chase big fat lung busters anymore. I noticed years ago that hardcore vape enthusiasts often still carried a “smokers wheeze” and that’s something I think we really should try and distance ourselves from.

That’s one of the main reasons I created the 14MM Z8/ZX after 3.5 years of using my larger 18MM ball vape designs.

IMHO I find time and time again in my personal experiments that the number one irritant is simply using too much material.

Vaporizing with great herb and a great device is so efficient, it’s rather humorous how small of a bowl I truly need.
I feel like when we fill our upper lungs with vapour it is very irritating. I think all that coughing causes inflammation as well. I never cough when I vape, and therefore I never cough randomly through the day because of that.

So I'm in full agreement.

EDIT - I don't cough while vaping because I vape multiple small bowls in ZX and Tempest.

Meh, I’m old, almost retired, and only buy what I can afford, so I don’t see a problem with it, other than deciding what I want next. But also, it seem every vape I pick up introduces me to new thing. Like I thought I knew what a flavorful hit was, but this new Firewood has shown me flavors I never knew existed in pot. It also showed my the advantages on “On demand”. I never thought I would like that feature, but now I just wish it heated even faster. Every vape I own has either been an increase in performance (moving away from the DaVinci), or a strength in an area my others were week (the Lobo is so much easier to carry around, and will hurst so much less if it gets damaged than my Mighty+!). It is getting hard to decide what I want for next round.

If you don't have a wand/IH for the dyna I recommend highly for ease of use and economy, buy spare batteries and never have to fill an over priced crack torch again. 2 high end torches and a couple cans of premium gas is about the same price.

The irony of using AI to help lessen one's carbon footprint isn't lost on me, but it's provided a helpful perspective on this decision.

I recharge a set of batts every day, so the wand has paid for itself in saved gas, works in the wind, also quiet when my wife is alseep. Taking those carbon use averages down every day since the gasses already been spewed.

If I didn’t have a Wand or similar, I would have thrown the Dynavaps out by now. The torch gig is too much hassle for one or two good hits, not to mention the whole looking like a crack head thing. I would rather not attract attention when I hit the vape.

As a counterpoint, I will say I have used vapcaps for many years now, and still occasionally use them out and about with a torch. But if I am using a Tempest which requires more and longer heat, I much prefer using the Wand.

Agree. I love 'em. I torch them unless it's too windy; at home I'm probably 70/30 torch vs IH. I found the learning curve pretty easy and was using it competently the first day or two. The key is patience. Low and slow will deliver big hits at the clicks without fail, any tip, any cap.

I really enjoy reading all these glorious VAS statements. Unfortunately for me got laid off today before these holidays so its no new POTV Lobo for me under the Christmas tree. (truthfully a luxury item)

I finally got a proper torch though. It was actually one of those low flame dessert torches that my wife had but works well. (watches too many cooking shows on tv) I had previously purchased a cheap quartz nail & a lousy carb cap, but i did get it to work. I do want to find a good tutorial now on Dabbing on how to properly use this thing. What i think i need is a flat nail rather than the slightly tilted one i have. No upgrades on this for a while either.

I have been assembling a fake Terpcicle clone (FAKECICLE) but still need to fabricate some pieces & buy some tubing etc. I will report on these developments as i move past the Parts Acquisition milestone .

What i really want to is find a good halogen lamp at at Goodwill or the bulb & most importantly the ceramic bulb holder. I want to play with this setup. Last Christmas my son got me a really nice LED fixture and my desk halogen lamp got donated. In retrospect it would have been perfect as it had a nice long gooseneck. As you can see i am the consummate DIYer anyway.

I am stuck with my PAX Plus for daily flower consumption. I have improved my results markedly with a few key tweaks & strategies. Most of these are related to stuff i have read hear on Fuck Combustion. Here are a few:
  • Keep the pack very LOOSE and use the full size magnetic back to close
  • No matter what you do concentrates are messy & not worth the effort (i did buy a new Pivot so i guess there is that reason as well)
  • Keeping the battery charged to nearly full helps improve vapor production after the pack has been used for a while.
  • If i notice my hits have diminished a bit i will stop and examine my AVB. I find at this point the degree of finishing the AVB almost always mixed. I basically repack the PAX chamber with the last stuff i pulled out closest to the oven. This works quite well and i can get some really good hits almost immediately but i know its almost time to replace the flower. I have noticed the high is much better than when i was using the PAX before.
  • I also have adopted a technique where i let the device get ready, then WAIT like 20 sec take a nice deep sip. After that i wait the same 20 sec between hits. This really kills the battery, but i am mostly satisfied. The PAX battery is pretty strong but i try not to let the battery go completely dead before i recharge. (I still want a Lobo though)
  • I still love bringing my PAX w me when i go out for walks. it is very discreet

Bummer, man, best of luck in finding something new. And with your DIY endeavors, too!

I'm UK based but would love to send you a Terpcicle for free, gratis and for nothing (one careful owner). Happy to cover postage too. If you're interested, please DM. That said, I don't want to stop you from experimenting - it's a joyful way to learn more about our shared hobby. Anyway.

I feel you, man. One of my last regular gigs, a senior center that I've worked at part time as a 1099 worker for 22 years, just hired someone full time to maintain their own computers and replace the 1099 people who came in to help residents. I could've applied for that gig but I didn't because I am not looking for a full time job. Hopefully some of those residents will still call me 'cause they know me, but we'll see. I am also much closer to their age than the guy they hired.

Anyway, back on the subject, my VAS acquisitions have slowed down quite a bit, but they never end. There's always something new to spend money on. I imagine for example, if TinyMight were to make a significant improvement in their device, I would likely buy a new one and sell one of my OG 's. The TM2 and the PH aren't yet enough to drive that update.

The good news for my pocketbook, I guess, is that I am very happy with the 3 primary vapes I use today and something really incredible will have to come out to feel I really need to add to my collection. I am quite certain at some point that will happen.

That stinks! Sorry about your job, and I hope the next one is better.
