I get why they should be returned but a refund? Why not fixing them and sending them back? I would rather keep it until it breaks…

The problem is if it "breaks" there is the potential for a fire or personal injury. I'd love to keep mine as well but it seems like a huge liability for the company.
@vapman Is there any possibility that we can keep them and fix them with replacement parts if the problem is found to be something that is easily serviceable? Or as others have said, can we send them in to be fixed and get them back? Wouldn't that also save you money since you can't sell these units as "new" anymore? I'd rather ask and receive a "no" than never ask at all...

The thought of launching a few VX110's on single trailers, by hand, in the sand and into the surf makes my back hurt... no wonder you keep the Vapman on call. One seaters and stand ups are hard enough to launch from a beach cart into the surf, although the waves do look a little more tame (and clear) in your picture than what I'm used to.

I would keep a close eye on the station after knowing what happened to others but I would still keep it…
About the VX's, yeah man, they are so heavy indeed and the sand so soft but we are two and we put them in the sea in the morning by putting wooden "runners" under the wheels or just by making a kind of runway on the sand with our feet… Not that hard it turns out. When we close we pull them out with a car and it's even easier. Oh and we don't put them in when it's more than 5,5 beaufort!

I've just become a Vapman user (Vapmanite, Vapmanian, Vapmaniac ?). I think I'm detecting the scent of mica when using. I'm familiar with the smell from working with circuits holding mica capacitors. Being a novice, am I applying the flame too close to the mica, or applying too much heat ? Or is this normal with a new unit?
@subway13029 in bummed to hear about your meltdown, and an email from @vapman saysvwe are going to have to return all of them to him until he can figure out a fix for this.
While this is a big disappointment for all of us, I'm confident that this is only a bump in the road, and that we will be vaping at our stations again soon.

This sounds exactly like what happened when the solid state relay inside of my PID controlled e-nail failed, instead of controlling the current properly it was drawing whatever the wall outlet was outputting causing the heating element to overheat and glow bright red. Although I believe this unit has a dc adapter with a limited output so not sure how much my anecdote applies to this situation.

Damn! I just got used to the station too! (Also realized that sandwiching concentrates between the concentrate screens is nowhere near as tasty as putting the bubble straight in the gold plated bowl which is great!). Still, huge respect to @vapman for taking a safety first approach to this matter! This is the kind of person I like to do business with!
Now I gotta find a magic eraser somewhere, that bowl of has a bit of oil gunked on it lol (Don't worry guys, I haven't scraped the bowl to clean ever and will never thanks to what I've learned here long before I even received my vapman!).
I just did my first torch bowl with bubble after realizing it is better in the gold bowl and this is perfect, quicker to load (straight into bowl with funnel like flowers) and quick to heat, with less chance of accidental combustion.
As someone who has used enails for a long time, this is the nail for non full-melt hashes as far as I am concerned! The simplest way to do hash so far
I really hope @vapman has the greatest of success working on the Vapman Stations because I will buy a new improved one without question! With the station and loading the hash right into the gold bowl, I find that heat 3 is perfect to hit the bubble at and super tasty! I think when a new station comes out, we will have the ultimate hash solution.
My D-nails have less of a monopoly on my lungs now!

Well I won't be getting rid of my VM after hearing this unfortunate news. I did purchase it w/ the intent for the VS1. At first I wasn't too excited about flowers but loved the concentrates, I'd like to tell all you fine folks. I tried to walk b4 I crawled apparently. I grind everytime I vape (well 95%) sometimes I stick a full nug in a log gong. I just bought a new dual flame lighter for use with my HS glass and tried unground hand shredded herbs with my new Vertigo dual torch and wowza, I'm speechless! This is what I was missing, I'm floored too b/c I didn't expect that one bit, same herbs as before just not finely ground and a dual torch is my money combo with the VM from now on!

The Vapman will NOT be intimidated. Bring it and let the Vapman wing it! I'm a huge fan of the W9 Herc but the Vapman can do amazing shit with the wax I have very limited access to. We're talking a relaxed and full night's sleep. The Herc does a nice job but the Vapman kicks it up a notch.

I think that same sort of thing probably happened, although there is no solid state relay being DC. The same thing can happen, current flow when not demanded if the pass element (most likely a Field Effect Transistor) fails. Sound engineering should prevent that aside from component failure.
I think it's at least as likely the processor got 'hung up' and simply left it on (never shut it off again). In such cases the heater is still under control (by Ohm's Law) but the total power delivered will be too great, heat will rise.
Consider your oven, it goes to what 500F? And holds temperature by duty cycle (turns on and off as needed). If you wind it up to full blast ("broil" where it never shuts down) it gets a little hotter, but it sure doesn't go to 3 times the normal temperature (needed in the HS to melt the Aluminum), that would be like 1500F in the oven?
While VM no doubt used a 'fat' heater to get rapid times (also keeping the mass to be heated low for the same reason) I'm surprised to find it can run away that far.
All that said, this is not IMO a fatal deal. The idea works, and works well. There's a few issues (like the profile of the cup piece, (minor) and the thermal run away,(major) to be resolved but they are IMO pretty much normal for the process. You make and test prototypes and hope to find all the issues. Then run a pilot run (usually) and get some serious testing going hoping to find the 'hidden' problems. It's a trade off, you want lots of testing but not too much exposure to downside problems (like this one).
And of course this is all done against the backdrop of the conundrum "when is the last problem fixed?".
This can be fixed, probably pretty easily. Perhaps a software change or a minor tweak. If not another approach to monitoring/controlling the heat will carry the day. Adding a so called 'thermal fuse' could guarantee safe shutdown in the event of run away (like is done in hand hair dryers as protection for similar run aways or when you mindlessly set it on a towel and walk away (well maybe not you, but someone will eventually). The idea works, there's a host of ways to implement it. I'm confident a good one will be exploited eventually.
The bad part is now we go back into waiting mode. More over, we know how sweet it will be when complete.....which won't make the waiting any easier?

I understand a lot of people r tired of crowd funded projects, but maybe for the vs2 it would be a good idea to help raise funds and get the problem resolved. I would love to have a vs but just didnt have the extra doe at the time. If there was a kickstarter or indigogo up for a few months im sure i would find the money haha.

I got my email with the final instructions to return..it's a very very sad day..I love my other vapes but I really love my vapman and this hs was so damn smooth..vapman assured me that I wouldn't get the boot and that it was just an issue and needed to be returned and fixed..

Thank you for the warm welcome! My vapman arrived yesterday, and after a moment of "holy crap, so tiny!" (which I didn't expect, since I had seen so many pictures), taking some measurements so I could calculate future container needs, and gathering up supplies, we gave it a try.
We like it! Got the hang of it pretty quick, and have been able to get the relief benefits without any sort of fuzzy headedness or high (which is the goal). My partner has already decided that he'd like one of his own, so another vapman will join the ranks when the budget allows. The design, construction, and experience are all what I hoped it'd be, so I'm very excited to continue getting to know my vapman.
A scale and a hard-sided case arrive tomorrow. The case will hold lighter, vapman, an abv container, and containers for ground flower to take with me. Hope to be able to measure out consistent amounts and then get the heating and such consistent for the results I want/need. We had an idea for carrying "single serve" containers of various strains, I'll report more if it works.
Eventually hoping to get a heating station, I have confidence in René's ability to get it sorted out.

I'll post some pictures after it arrives and I know I measured everything correctly! I don't want to link to something that doesn't actually fit. It'll arrive tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. I'm also picking up a small pill holder for abv (I have one, but it's juuuuuust too tall).
In the meantime, a cheap option would be a matchbox. It's a generous fit, but plenty of space if you had a larger lighter, a cloth/alcohol swabs/similar, or for a variety of herb storage options.

I just remembered that René told me a while back that we actually already have a box - the vapman lighter box!
You can fit the lighter, vapman (with the detached mouthpiece) and have some space to spare. It's not waterproof, but it works.
They are also working on a Tin box with the foam cutouts inside and I told him that I'd like one version for the vapman only and another one for vapman + lighter,but I like the tin box idea.
What do you all think?

I'm laying in bed dreaming about sneaking off and firing up the forbidden station, but have put together a substitute bedside vaping system using a small bubbler and an E-Nano. But it still requires using two hands to manipulate at least three objects while sitting up. If I had more GonG's it would help, but I don't like glass by the bed for safety.
The station so perfectly met my medical needs, that I'm struggling to figure out how to live without it now. For me, it truly is that good: way beyond just another really neat way to vaporize cannabis. Of course, I have lots of ways to do this and am lucky to have other great devices, but the station felt like it was made with just my needs in mind.
The Vapman Station v1.1 cannot come soon enough.
