connected the vapman to the orbiter using the glass joint from magic flight's first wpa - cloudy heaven :)

Magic Flight just started making the orbiter in walnut.Im hoping to order one to match my walnut collection which is growing inc. Vapman & daisy.

if you do want to order the orbiter, do it before the end of the year for lifetime warranty inc. glass I believe!
How that works with glass I have no idea.

May i say that the work on your box Mojo made my heart jump.awesome detail right there.

Vapman still in rotation. i took it to the pub on friday and stood openly in the smokers section puffing away on my vapman.a smoker standing next to me coughed and spluttered. "damn I need to buy myself one of those".if only he knew.:D

Walnut is the way:cool:,so exited to get my new walnut nano on a walnut orbiter.
BTW @Andreaerdna I wouldn't wait on an EU nano, The converter I'm using is so small and I'm wondering why I haven't been enjoying these flavour blast clouds sooner.....I sure hope @vapman makes those heating stands in different woods as well.

I'm going to send my all-charred (all black Vapman) to engrave as well. I think it'll also look cool because the un-charred wood will show inside the engraving.

We'll see.

I'm not so sure that's the case? Doesn't the laser burn (even more) to make the engraving? No 'raw' (not charred) wood showing, only charcoal? No contrast.

There would still be texture of course.

Another idea might be to fill the engraving? That is wipe some high temperature enamel into the engraving and then quickly wipe the exposed paint away leaving it only in the engraved grooves to dry......

I see your point OF.

I could fill it in with paint. I saw a YouTube video on how to do that with a laser engravwd wood plaque.

I'll see how it goes and report back here.

Have fun, but I'd give some thought to the paint. Latex and acrylics are out I think? OTOH 'Hot Rod' paints (like you'd use on car engines) should be OK. The normal 'go to' BBQ paint is obviously not going to work.

I've filled regular engraving before, it's pretty easy. It's thick, you wipe on more than you need then carefully wipe the excess off leaving the paint only in the cut out areas. It didn't even have to be perfectly even.

Yes. It should be a simle wipe on - wipe off type of deal.

I'm going to test it on scrap wood first -- Carve some lines on a piece of wood by hand, embed the paint in the carved lines and then heat the wood to see if the paint can stand the heat without running, changing color, etc.

The heat may be the deal breaker here...

I hope I can make it work. We'll see.

Away with the fairies
:)......... The eggs are a trip to marvel at, that's for sure @axakal

I just love the whole egg concept ....... the Vapman is like a Kinder Surprise for adults (only much better!)

I actually have an extra egg to keep my VM spares, screens and screwdriver in - it's just perfect for the job.

I have a weird feeling that it's an FC member(different name). I might be wrong.
yeah i have that same feeling...so i am going to pull the trigger on the screens and lighter.
Those who have seen my posts about charring etc can easily put two and two together.

I love the Vapman and I love to tinker, so I came up with the charring idea and just recently, with Laser Engraving. I had my new one (which I charred two-tone) laser engraved and I will be sending my all-charred black one after X-Mas to see how that one turns out... I REALLY LIKE the Laser Engraving! :D

My idea was to order a few Vapmans to char and put them on eBay to see if they sold (if people liked them). While I was at it I ordered some screens and lighters because I know that shipping charges form Switzerland makes ordering them from the US prohibiting. -- I never promoted it here so as to not cause trouble in the Forum.

If you follow my posts, you will see that I had tried several vapes in the past and ended up falling in love with the Vapman -- same as everyone else in this forum. I've been talking about this little vape to all my friends, (and to everyone that will listen, haha).

I just like to tinker and thought I could get some nice charred Vapmans out there (shipping them from within the US), and maybe earn some gas money in the process... I haven't sold one yet :(

I never intended to use the forum to promote it, but I also wanted to set my intentions straight here.

I guess I can't hide that I am a Vapman Fanboy, but I really like this little vape! It's the only vape I've owned that at session's end, I just sit there, hold it in my fingertips and admire it for a while.

Also, René is an awesome guy and I wish he sells millions of these. I think everyone should own one. haha. Kinda like a programmer friend of mine who says SQL is the best thing in the world, that everyone should know SQL Syntax and they should teach it since kindergarten. Crazy, I know! But that;'s not the same and I digress...

So what I'm trying to say here is that my intentions were to help guys that want to order screens and lighters without having to deal with the shipping and customs from the other side of the pond, and what prompted me to do it was my custom charring and the Laser Engraving that I had done on mine, which I thought others may like too since I had charred a couple for friends of mine who told me they wouldn't dare try it themselves.

My intentions were to help out, and I hope no one takes it the wrong way.

Thanks,

Mojo

I love the charring style ! Really one of the deal breaker picture for me was the wpa and charred Vapman on glassware !
If it could be possible to get it in EU I might be interested. On ebay I see only screens and lighter.
Otherwise, I could try to do my own charring :p. Priceless !
@M0J0 Basically you hold the lighter to a certain distance till you see the char occurring and move on to the next area ?
I'm wondering about doing it to the inside only.

Vapman will be for me in 2015 ! I have to admit I still wonder about the taste/conduction side of Vapman. But with the reports I read, I'm pretty confident it's one if it's kind on this area, so I'll experiment ! Anyway, I see it will be perfect for my lovely resins !

Can't you order from Vapman.com in the EU?

A full (all around) char is much easier than the two-tone. And yes, I have to move the torch around. Don't let it actually burn the wood till it lights on fire. It's like painting with an airbrush (or a tiny can of spray paint).

I highly recommend that you test the charring technique on scrap wood before you torch your precious Vapman.

I go over it more heavily on the inside and go lighter on the outside of the body. On the inside I layer it several times, instead of doing one heavy char "coat." On the outside and the middle part of the mouthpiece, I like to do it to the point where it darkens but you can still see the grain of wood underneath.

The two-toned char is a pain in the butt, actually. I use masks so I can char only the parts I want. If I were to mess it up, it would continue to do a full char (all-black)... I think it really takes way longer than it's worth, but the end result is pretty nice.

I also char the base of the wooden mouthpiece. I remove the Stainless Steel filter and char the bottom and inside the hole a bit. I do this because it protects the middle portion from blackening on the outside around the base, when it chars with normal use. I've used my new two-tone Vapman for a while now and it has gotten no visible blackening at the base of the mouthpiece. -- The charring protects it...

Oh, and sand it before and after you char with fine sand paper (600 to 1000 grit). Then wipe it clean and use your favorite oil or wax to buff it. It'll end up with a nice matte finish, and you won't need to oil again for months or a year.

I like Organic Jojoba Oil because it's fully edible and supposedly it doesn't go rancid. Professional wood workers recommend it either combined with beeswax or by itself. Note: Do NOT oil the inside of the body nor the inside of the mouthpiece. If you do, it'll smoke a lot each time you use it far longer than it needs to.

Like I've mentioned before, it may "sweat" a little bit the first time or two you heat it, but you just wipe it off with your finger. Also, it will smoke a bit the first few times, but that's just the nature of the Basic. The wood will smoke a bit the first few times you use it, but it's not a big deal. After a few uses, it will never smoke again and the charring will get "cured" or "seasoned" and stay looking the same from there on out. When it does smoke, I just blow away the smoke before I inhale -- You've seen the pics of my black all-charred Vapman. It looks like new after over a year of use.

After it's all cured, sometimes you'll still see a whiff of smoke -- like incense -- that actually comes from inside the bowl. This is normal and others have commented on this. Stop torching as soon as you see this so you don't combust.

With a bit of patience, anyone can do a full char as long as you're comfortable taking it apart and putting it all back together, but not everyone is comfortable doing this. The Two-toned is quite a bit harder to pull off and it's not for the faint-hearted. Although, if you mess up, you just continue charring the rest...

Sorry for the long post. I hope this helps.
