Vapman

I may have gone astray with the MEK but it's smell seemed to dissipate fast and worked well for what I used it for. Next time I'll definitely use acetone. Good to know most everyone likes wood better, I might have to grab one! Also, on the oil beading/burnoff, I experienced this before I ever put anything on it (assuming the linseed oil) it kind of bubbled and came out, but the walnut oil doesn't seem to behave in the same way? I haven't had the burn off since. Maybe because the amount of oil coming out of a walnut is so minuscule that it doesn't matter? Maybe @vapman can give us some insight on the oil thing, because I've seen some Vapmans that are so dark they look like they were treated with stain. I still want to try concentrates in my Vapman but they taste so delicious in my Aromed!

My basic has become my concentrate vapman. Wax makes a pretty big mess I'm finding(it's all new to me).
I'm finding using just tiny bits of wax nowhere near a grain of rice helps keep things a little neater.

@Mr Mellish I don't know if i would try to clean the oil off or out from under the mica, instead I would just vape a few bowls worth of bud and let it vape off on its own.
My basic pearwood top now looks like i've been using it for years now also after only a few days with wax.

I can't get decent enough pressed hash or quantities of kief but seems the concentrate sieves were designed more for them then full-melt wax/hash so what i'm doing is a few sessions of wax then removing the sieves and doing a bowl or two of herb, seems to take those two bowls of herb to vape up the oils built up on the bowl and middle section.

With the use of wax/oil the Vapman does go from very low maintenance to daily cleaning if your even slightly OCD. Just something to keep in mind ... but it sure isn't stopping or even slowing me down from Having fun and staying medicated with my first little stash of good concentrates

I am thinking most people are over filling their Vapman with resin concentrates. I have put, weed, keif, and sappy golden reclaim through the concentrate screen and have not had a bad mess. With the sappy reclaim I just put several pin head size dabs on the screen and vaped them. When I opened my Vapman the bowl has never been very dirty but the screen had some residue like the concentrate just melted into the screen and vaped away. I think that if you are putting more concentrate in than the screen can adsorb it will drip into the bowl and make a mess. :2c:
Just a DAB will do you!!!

I still just prefer the black plastic mouthpiece myself, I had bought both a plum and ebony and have given both away already.
:peace:
I have an ebony stem and white and black POM plastic ones as well.

I prefer the plastic ones. The Black one better because it matches my charred Vapman better, I think. Also my white one got kinda yellow with time.

I feel that the plastic stem feels better than the wood and it's also much easier to clean.

After about three or four sessions, I put a small piece of tissue paper inside the hole and push it through with a bamboo skewer. You can see the paper come out all nasty, but if you do it a second time with a new piece, it comes out clean.

This way, I only need to dip it in acetone only once in a blue moon.

I can see why others like the wood better though. Pros and cons and personal preference...

@steama, I can see you really don't like any oil at all. The stuff gives you the heevy-jeevies?

I just want to clear up that with the butchers block wax, this almost never happens, and when it did, it was like one tiny drop or two and only on the first session.

To me, linseed oil is more "chemically" than a food grade oil or wax. I'd rather vape this by mistake than linseed oil.

But I'm not here to convince anyonw of anything, nor to say that "my way is the only/correct way" - I just want to share with others who may like it.

Like the wood vs plastic stems, it's all personal preference and we're lucky we have the choice.

Peace brother Steama. I value your input enormously

Ah okay...i think we may need @vapman to chime in and give some detailed info on doing concentrates.

You are right @hoyo77, I think it is time that I chime in on that topic. First I like to clarify that any oil dripping or coming out of the middle section is not the linseed oil we are using here at our workshop. The linseed oil we use dries out completely and never ever gets liquid again. On the middle section we apply only one sparingly coating and the linseed oil we use is free of toxic solvents. It is all natural, has orange oil and other natural substances mixed in and there are no toxic fumes. We never use ventilation or cloves when we do the oiling and we are using this oil for the past 15 years without any issues.
Any oils or liquids dripping out of the middle section are liquid resins from the herbs or concentrates being vaporized. The wood soakes up the resins and releases them when saturated. These oils can drip down into the heating chamber where they get recycled and vaporized again. So far so good. Now, if one wants to get rid of these oils soaked up by the wood, the middle section can be submerged into acetone which will solve the resins and eventually wash them out by rinsing the middle section several times. For those who don`t want to deal with acetone, I recommend to have a cotton swab ready during the session for soaking up the oils coming out when they are hot and liquid. For those who don`t care about oil dripping out of the middle section I can reassure that nothing bad will happen, your vapman will last as long as any other.:)
Now finally coming to the concentrates: To avoid a mess when using concentrates, it is important to apply concentrates sparingly and vaporizing them thoroughly before refilling, especially the ones turning into liquid oils when heated up. Wax for instance turns into liquid oil instantly when heated up and when taking off the middle section it seems that it is all gone. This is misleading, the oils actually are distributing themselves all over the screen and can hardly be seen. At this point it is important to keep on vaporizing until the unvisible oils are gone. VERY IMPORTANT: Always rub off the filter after using and when it is still warm, this avoids the filter from sticking on to the bowl when the oils turn hard again. This applies for concentrates and herbs! In case your middle section got stuck on the bowl, don`t apply any force when trying to open, just heat the bowl instead and the residues will become soft again and your vapman can be opened effortlessly. The filter should be clean and shiny at all times!;)

The mica should not be touched or cleaned at all, oils dripping on the mica is not a problem.
We actually apply our linseed oil on the edges of the mica layers, this seals the edges and prevents little pieces from coming off. The worst thing you can do to mica is to try cleaning it with water or some solvents, just leave it and it will be fine for ever!

@J-Kill9109: If there are still questions about the above mentioned topics I would be happy to answer.

Thank you,

vapman

They're great with normal hash. Absolutely love it.

Cleaning I just torch the screen while holding with pliers.

As for amounts I have no idea. It's def personal amounts, if I fill it it will get me baked. Very rarely find myself doing back to back sessions.

As for oils I've found once applied I torch lightly to allow the concentrates to absorb into the screen before I go for it. This helps with mess.

Best vaporiser ever.

@vapman how are the screens for use with traditional hash, on regards to ammounts and cleaning?

As @davesmith wrote in the post above, cleaning with a torch lighter is simple, quick and very efficient. The screen will get red hot and the residues incinerate completely. After that, there is nothing left than ash which can be brushed or blown off. Cleaning can also be done by placing the screen into a solvent like acetone or some kind of alcohol.
Regarding the amount of resin on the screen depends very much on the type of resin you are using. Resin which tends to melt and becomes liquid when heated should be applied much more sparingly than the drier and more powdery stuff of which you can easily cover the whole screen. The left overs of fully vaporized resins can be cleaned out with a brush, if the left overs are still sticky means that they are not thoroughly vaporized.

Thanks @vapman for the detailed information. This helps us a lot.

I'd like to clear up that when I talk about applying wax or oil to the Vapman, I'm talking about the Basic (that comes un-finished) - charred or not.

I don't think you will ever need to add anything to the Classic (Mica version), since the original linseed oil and buffing should last pretty much for ever.

@vapman should correct me if I'm wrong.

@vapman thanks for that, very good information....next question i have is this...i am new to using concentrates have always been a flower child. What would you suggest for heating times when using concentrates? It seems like because we are using a jet flame that the time could possibly stay the same or maybe a few seconds longer. But i am a noob at this.

Got my Vapman on Monday in the mail. I like it more every time I use it!:ko: Takes a little time with it to get the hang of it but it's getting better every session. I'm very impressed by how strong the effects are using such a small amount of material.:o The craftsmanship in even a basic model is excellent and I'm very fond of the ritual of just using it.

It's funny, the longer it's been since I started vaping, the more I'm getting away from the "high tech" type devices.

placed my order on the vapman, now the waiting begins. :) to those interested in the muscle powered vapman, verdampftnochmal apparently has some of them in stock. they go for 249 euros.

Hope you enjoy it when it arrives!

As for the friction vape, if I had the spare money I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Just for the fact that the Vapman really suits me and I'm sure the friction version would too I'm sure.

I've only tried out hash in mine. I've yet to have a go with wax or oil. I find it takes just that little bit longer to get the hash up to the right temperature initially. However, subsequent bursts on the torch seem to be pretty much comparable to when I'm vaping herbs, in terms of the time needed. I must admit though, I haven't actually timed either - that's just how it seems to me. I tend to use my Vapman without thinking about it tbh.

Damn! I didn't expect that price.. I would Love to have the friction powered one, but I'm afraid there's No way I could justify that price.. That's about how much I paid for my EVO.. It sucks to realize I likely won't ever be getting one of those :(.. I guess I'll start getting over it now

Man I love this Vapman thread. It is so great we get to banter back and forth and share ideas. It is one hell of a lot of fun where everyone's voice matters. If I were drunk I would be tellin' you guys and gals how much I love you.

LMAOF.....i must admit this is one of the better threads on this forum!!!

can you believe, it only had 15 pages by the end of 2013? :)
Compare that to how long the vapman has been around...basically unchanged except for the addition of the mica....i am probably speaking for myself but none the less..i consider myself a vapor enthusiast. I get VAS and in the past i have bought vapes when the wallet was right but since i have got the vapman i have started selling my other vapes. I only own 3 vapes and they are in my signature. I have gotten to a point i dont need bells and whistles in a vaporizer...keep it simple flame, breath, vapor...that is why my vapman is in heavy rotation and my hammer and log vape are close behind.
