So I'm looking around for a torch lighter -- all mine have been collecting dust and are kaput -- what do people think of this one?

I've not used that specific one, but several that look pretty similar. Some were great at first, but none stood up to extended use. I'm sure it will work fine, but it would be smart to have a backup, so you don't have to resort to matches or something shitty when it fails. You might be able to save on shipping costs by ordering 2 now.

Acolyte of Zinglon asked about the ergonomics of the Blazer/Prince pencil torch. I don't see any advantage to torches with an angled head over the straight ones. Even for the VaporGenie where you're trying to point the flame down, you have your finger on the trigger, so you'll feel some heat, but I've never burned myself that way. For the Vapman, I try to hold it pretty upright and heat from underneath, so the straight pencil torch works great. Easy one-handed operation, slides nicely into the pocket, but it's not small.

I decided on the Blazer torch (it is of a very similiar design). I'll order it sometime this week most likely....

Just took it out on a test run in the cold. Works great! There is no way I could have started a joint or used the vaporgenie. Get the torch lighter and voila.... Vaped like 3 bowls out in the snow.

Would a heat gun, rather than a butane torch, work with the Vapman? Has anyone tried this?

I am interested in the Vapman, but just don't like the thought of having to use a butane torch. These heat guns are not of the quality I would want to inhale from, but they should do the same job as a torch with the Vapman (although heating will likely take longer). Obviously, one looses portability and stealth with a heat gun.

Anyone out there using a heat gun with the Vapman? Or can you try this?

The Vapman bowl is made out of copper, even though it's line with gold, I've heard that the gold coating will eventually flake off

If you own one you will understand that it s very well made and precise as a clockwatch. Think about making the same yourself ans you will understand how complexed it is. It is not perfect but the vapman is by far my best choice while on the go. I wish for my wallet that it was cheaper but I can t complain about the price, without criticising the VG, a vapman is a much more complex piece of work. I never asked why the bowl is coated in gold as copper is a better conductor for heat. I guess that it s to protect the copper bowl from oxidation.

nice video spiral. 2 questions if you dont mind. Do you know if there's a reason behind the initial pause between the first 2 torchings? As opposed to just heating it in one motion for a few seconds longer?
Second, do you find it necessary to use the funnel to load the bowl properly?

I don't know, you basically got to heat up the gold plated 'cup' and heat pin, and get some air flowing then it produces vapor. I'm just following the directions given from the company... 'heat, wait a bit, heat, wait a bit, etc.'

It also prevents burning the mouthpiece which I did after holding the torch on too long...

No, you don't need the funnel, but it makes it a helluva lot easier...

Alright I thought it was about time for me to chime in on the Vapman considering I was a frequent user (would still be using it right now if it wasn't stolen) for 3 monthes. Most of what I have to say as far as review goes has been already said such as pros/cons. Although people complain about the small bowl I would say this is somewhat of a plus because I can get 2-3 really good hits out of it with some tips that I have for people about using it. These hits are big and can get you pretty lifted for the small bowl that it is. Dry, ground bud is a big plus for sure. Also, with those air holes people have been wanting to cover up: toothpicks work wonders! Break off the tip of a toothpick and use the little wood end thats left at crack it off. If you did it right then you will most likely just have a nice piece of wood that doesn't even poke out on either side. Cover up two holes with the toothpicks and you can use the other one as a sort of carb. I was able to get some monster clouds with this baby. My only gripe/suggestion to people is to not use one of the regular lighter-sized torch lighters unless you're only going to pack a few bowls and then refill every time. This weekend I am ordering another Vapman for my friend and also am waiting for my PD that will arrive sometime next week (hopefully wed/thursday). I hope to provide a comparison of these two because seeing the efficiency of the PD, I think that these two are pretty close in that category. I will take some pictures of packing bowls of the vapman, putting the picks in, as well as anything else you guys request...
Also forgot to mention: Using this as a substitute bowl piece in a bong is very cool! However it won't work with any double-perc action or anything fancy, I tried one of those and it didn't work to well cuz I couldn't inhale fast enough. I've only had good times with a straight-shooter. I just mounted it on the down stem and it actually was a rather nice fit (don't ask for measurements please... it was a friends bong)

I'm late on here, been reading alot over the last week here. Registered to make this my first post. Bought a Iolite after reading about it here. I have had a Vapman for about the last 18 months. It takes a few days of playing with it to figure it out. You absolutely do "not" need to block any holes when vaping, whether from the venturies or the air holes in the vaping stem as I read above. You need a "good" torch lighter with a nice pencil flame. The bowl can hold up to 1/10th of a gram. (I weighed it out) I can get very nicely medicated from a single bowl without scorching. In fact, I can get two people singing with one bowl in this thing. With my Blazer torch lighter, it gets up to temp with 2 bursts of approx. 4 seconds each from the torch. I can vape that little bowl for an easy 15 to 20 really nice hits. It's very important when re-heating for additional vapes to then give it only a second or two burst from the jet lighter. (really depends on the size of your jet flame) This will get it nicely up to temp without overheating. Most people apply too much heat. I've read the posts above where someone says the gold plating comes off the bowl, this only happens when it is overheated by quite a substantial amount. (it takes 1100 deg. F to do this. *Much* higher than it needs to be heated. (approx 350 to 375 degrees) I think most people get a little stoned and over anxious at first and tend to overheat. The gold loss doesn't make it any less effective though. I measured the bowl temps with a thermocouple and a infra-red heat gun to arrive at this technique. Never taking the bowl to over 375 degrees F. Same as I vape with my HerbalAire and now the Iolite. My gold plating still looks like the day I purchased it. I think this thing is TOTALLY worth the $125 that it can actually be purchased for. I would pay twice that. I really like the Iolite, but if I had to choose one vaporizer, it would be the Vapman. It is more efficient for personal use. 1/10th of a gram can lift you up where you belong. You can take one hit or many hits on one bowl and slip it back into its case and right back into the pocket. (it is tiny) The Iolite seems to work best with a very fine grind and a full bowl in my opinion, which is about 1/2 gram. That is FIVE bowls in the Vapman. Let's put that in perspective - I see that guys with the Purple Days use even less than 1/10th of a gram, they use 1/4 of a 10th of a gram and get 2 to 4 nice hits. (I have a PD on order - few days ago, thanks to the very favorable comments here - can't wait ) Now that Iolite is sending me a couple of the new metal stemmed mouthpieces to replace my melted ones, I like using that when I know that I will be blasting with my wife and can leisurely spend the 15 minutes to fully vape that 1/2 gram. I really like it as well as it has its uses in different situations. My wife likes the Iolite because it gives really smooth vapor that doesn't make her cough and she likes that it is stealthy because no one knows what it is. I can easily vape with the Vapman almost anywhere. It can be concealed in the cup of your hand when you take a hit. It's also ridiculous for anyone to say anything about inhaling butane with the Vapman. You heat it with a torch lighter and "then" hit it. No sucking in butane as with a Vapor Genie. The Vapman stands alone in my opinion for stealth, efficiency, design and it just works. The only complaint that I could make is that when you take your time and do many vapes over a short time period, it does get a little warm, but that is not really a complaint as it still is holdable. I just want to encourage anyone sitting on the fence on the Vapman, to get one and learn to use it as I state above and you will be very happy with it. I think it is the Purple Days portable equivalent as far as design, finish and efficiency. I see that it has a higher user satisfaction level than the Iolite on Vaporstore's website, which I think is well deserved. (Vapman 9.3 to Iolite's 8.8 with almost as many reviews) Yes, I am a fanboy of the Vapman.

Jonah, good writeup but i STRONGLY DISAGREE with your no hole blocking method... the clouds you get out of this thing are flawless with those holes gone... look other places you're alone on your statement... and for a simple bottle bong setup you get higher than anything else...

It's not necessary when done the way I say. I've done it with the holes blocked as well. The "open" holes in the mouthpiece help to cool the vapor down before it enters your lungs as well as making the vapor "draw" easier. It's not mentioned in the instructions for these reasons. Works quite well without blocking. A very well designed unit. Feel free to use it as you like though.

OK, I must take back what I said over a year ago in this thread. I recently purchased the Vapman, and have to say it works great once you get the technique. This little guy can product some big tasty satisfying hits. It's great for outdoor events! Just make sure: Don't over-fill the bowl, and using dry herb is a essential.

Do you guys heat the apex of the pan with the tip of outter (light blue) flame or inner (dark blue) flame? And do you guys think it's okay to take a few hits and put it back into the 'egg'? I always feel that I'm wasting the rest of the bowl if I do that because the bowl is still hot for awhile.

Yes, you can put it back in the egg case right away after using it. I do it all the time. I've had a few hits and sometimes come back to the same bowl days later and hit it more. It's amazing how many hits you can get off one bowl - an easy dozen if you heat it just enough to vaporize each time. I heat witht the outer tip of the flame. Play with it though, you must master it Grasshopper.

And half spent bowls are still good your air intake is what mostly does the cooking of the herbs...

I was looking for a portable Vape...did not want to suck butane (myth or not) after seeing Vapman's Videos, "Hold the Wapor in your Lungs..." and after scouring FC and this thread I pulled the trigger last week.

Been using Vapman, mostly with my Illadelph (perfect fit) for about three days now...the learning curve is more about getting consistent results with the lighter than with the vapman itself.

At first I did close two of the mouthpiece holes, but after a few uses I found that unnecessary.

A tiny pinch gives me three nice thick rips...then I save the AVB until enough accumulates to use it in my Volcano for a nice cloudy balloon (a re-grind by hand on the way into filling chamber, the Vapman filling-funnel works on that too).

The efficiency is also great...my consumption went from a quarter/wk to a half/wk when I got the volcano, looks like I will be back down to about a quarter of medicine a week now.

I love this and I love that the only mechanical device you have to rely on is your lighter (easy to keep a spare)...Iolite looks awesome, but I need atleast 1 completely reliable piece, especially for a portable.

I put the vapman in my book bag today, and when I got home and look in the bag, I saw the case accidentally opened; and this is not the first time this happens!! luckily there were no sign of damage... I found a flat candy tin that fits the vapman base/mouthpiece apart perfectly. this allows extra protection against damage, but then I wouldn't be able to save hits for later this way.
