Vapman

So you got a couple of them @Dr. G ? How much Vapmen will you have then ? This is getting really serious, but I think a few people here are well-stocked too.
I have 11 of them...I use one at a time! Two nights ago we had a Vapman party...all of my guests had their own Vapman...we gathered outside...it was just beautiful. We put candles everywhere...it was super ZEN...the best thing about Vapman is talking about it. It is such an interesting vape...my guests were very intrigued and just had a lovely time with it. The Vapman for me gives me the most Zen high and we tossed some Northern Lights and just looked at the stars...super nice.

It truly is one of my favorite vapes and yes, it is serious. My collection of Vapman will keep growing and I will always share my things with family and friends.
PS I also felt like a rock star because I knew everything about it...and showed everyone how to use it. It was so much fun.

A life with only one Vapman is possible, but pointless. :D

(Loosely based on Loriot, one of the greatest German comedians of the last century)

I agree, the Vapman is indeed the ideal vape for outdoor!
Even alone at the campfire it is conducive to meditation.

(My luck the lumberjacks have left branch cuttings that serve ideally as a small vape table)

I'm looking to hire someone from the states for a "small gig" - reassembling my 3 vapmans that have collapsed through perhaps misuse, a little ignorance, and lack of proactive tightening with the screwdriver.
I played around with the task a few times but felt that i could only make matters worse.

I had brought one to a a few shoe repair places near me but after smelling they were afraid to touch it, which surprised me.

One of these is the Italian applewood which i particularly miss.

So if anyone has experience and wants to take this on please let me know - every piece is within its egg.
I'll make sure everything's cleaned up for shipping.

Getting these fixed up is on my bucket list and something to look forward to.

Thanks - a lot!

Care to share any pics showing the nature of the "collapse"? I'm curious.

When i dig them out from my file cabinet I'll provide photos, in one case one copper tube is disconnected, which I find very difficult to reconnect, in another case - an early swiss model - one of the holes in the wood on top is slightly too large to screw and tighten. I don't recall the issue with the third one. Thank you.

Oh wow. You weren't kidding at all when you said collapsed.
Sounds like "destroyed" would be a more accurate term
I'd be interested to hear if it's fixable.

With the third one, I recall that I had used the concentrate adapter with resin and spaced out and forgot to open and remove the middle part, which basically glued the middle and bottom part together. I was gentle but to no avail, upon slow easy removal there was "collapse" of the bowl.

Broke mine the same way (swiss model). Too much concentrates, not enough cleaning. I saw that Vapman sells the bowl, just not sure if it will fit a swiss model (classic), and the level of difficulty to replace.

So I'm still getting to know my vapman, the flavour, in the beginning, was sublime but it appears to have dropped off a bit. I've tried iso soaked earbuds but would like to give it a more thorough cleaning. Do any instructions exist anywhere that explain full disassembly so that I can run the metallic parts through the ultrasonic cleaner?

i made a 15 second short of the *two* vapmans in need of bottom section reassembly.
I fiddled with the third unit and was able to fix it.
thank you.
I see you enjoyed your Vapman heavily...its nice to see. Good luck with the fixes. I am sure there is a solution for all of it. Take care...

Thank you man. I actually just vaped kief using the adapter and it’s so great to have one working unit. I think unless a person is attentive enough to remove the middle piece and adapter after a session, always, I think concentrates are more safely served with a perfectly acceptable 20 dollar ConNectar and vapman left for flower.

Hehe, sorry I was trying use the generic term for q-tips!
oooh! I always called them cotton swabs, but yeah. My bad. I wonder if that is a regional name. Earbuds to me are in-ear headphone. Although I should have been able to easily figure it out from context. Thanks!

Mind sharing how you fixed it?
This one was easy. I tightened the three bottom side screws that hold the copper tubes that keep the pan tight and intact. It’s a size “o” screwdriver but if you have a set of precision screwdrivers one will fit.

This is quite easy and has been discussed a few times in this forum but here is a quick reminder…
Only the middle piece and the mouthpiece needs a deep cleaning (they are the only pieces in the vapor path).

1. Take the bottom piece (ring), middle piece and mouthpiece apart.
2. Unscrew the 2 screws that holds the screen (filter) on the middle piece. A magnet can be useful to keep the screws safe.
3. Soak the wood piece in pure acetone in the smallest jar possible (to use the less acetone possible). Soak for 1 h, gently shake the jar from time to time. The acetone will color. (If your mouthpiece is wood, put it in acetone too.)
4. Soak the steel parts (filter + heat protection ring if your Vapman is from 2014 or more recent) and the POM (or Ti or SS) mouthpiece in ISO.
5. Let the wood dry and oil the middle piece (coconut virgin oil, boiled linseed oil, beeswax…)
6. Rinse the steel and POM/Ti/SS pieces through hot water (not the wood !)
7. Put everything back together.

If you feel the need to clean the bowl, keep reading.

The bowl is the same for both Swiss and Italian, Classic and Basic (Pure) models. The three tiny tubes that holds the conical bowl are stamped in place manually, using a custom tool. It is like a hollow rivet assembly but at a jewelry scale, with really tight tolerances. You can see how it is made on this video from 2:05 to 2:20.

I think that you and @jeffp have this issue : the tubes have set apart from the bowl. Unless you can have the exact same custom tool you won't be able to stamp back the tubes properly. Moreover copper is a soft metal and when the tubes have been set apart form the bowl, the indentation where it connects to the bowl and the holes in the bowl may have been deformed. I doubt they can be put back together as easily as brand new parts.

You have the possibility to change the whole assembly bowl + tubes.
If you have an Italian Pure Vapman it is easy : the hole in the ring is wide enough to let the bowl pass through. Just unscrew the 3 screws that hold the tubes, place the new assembly and screw back.
If you have an Italian Classic Vapman, there is one more step : you have to get the mica off before. It's easy since it is only held by a few screws.

The Mica is bent in shape on a custom tool so try to keep it in shape when you set it apart from the ring.

Unfortunately, both of you have Swiss Vapmen. And I think you too @Cheebsy.
As you can see in the video, on the Swiss Classic version, the tubes are stamped on the bowl in situ (inside the ring) :
1. Loosely screw the tubes in place
2. Adjust the bowl on the tubes
3. Tighten the screws
4. Stamp the tubes ends on the bowl

I believe that they are assembled this way because the hole in the Swiss Vapemen is not wide enough to let the bowl pass through.
I don't have a Swiss Basic so maybe someone who already have took apart one can tell if the ring hole allows the bowl to pass through. @Gourmet maybe ?

I only have Classic Vapemen and on the Swiss version, the mica shield is held by the tubes screws and forced into a groove after shaping (video from 0:35 to 0:45). The vapman is buffed, oiled and polished with the mica in place. This is why on the Swiss Classic the mica appear to be "glued" to the wood at its edges. (Linseed oil harden the mica edges.) I wouldn't risk removing the mica on these ones. Therefore the bowl cannot be set apart from the ring. You can't soak it in anything because the mica will peel. With a lot of precautions you can try to plug the ends of the tubes with toothpicks and pour a few drops of iso inside the bowl until it is fully filled and wait a night or so… And then remove the iso carefully with cotton and then rinse without allowing any liquid to touch the mica.

Edit : I am sorry for the book I just wrote but I am really admirative of the craftsmanship involved in the making of the Vapman and I tend to be a bit extendible when talking about it…

Maybe the simplest way is to ask @vapman what do they think about it…

Thanks for the very useful info and it makes perfect sense. In my case it’s one tube that’s out but it’s soft and easily deformed as you say.

Soak a cotton ball and leave it set there for a while?

Awesome book, btw!

Thanks for this highly educational post. I learned 2 things.....
1. Better contact M&D and let the pros fix it.
2. I "NEED" to buy an Italian Pure, in case something like this happens again.
I wish all my teachers was this cool. 😎

@vapman Hey Michael and David,

I followed the link in my email to check out the new set of custom vapmans. Unfortunately, I didn't see any of your beautiful work, and ended up leaving the site without making another purchase, because the pop ups on the website are simply out of control.

Please consider simplifying your site to get rid of all the unnecessary analytics and pop ups. They are ruining the experience and interfering with shopping, and detracting from your beautiful work. I very much doubt that your sales are benefiting in any way from those features.

Thanks for considering.

I think the "20% off - join our mailing list" overlay is the worst offender. It can't be dismissed until a set timeout. And behind that are two more overlay elements, another email list prompt and a chat help prompt.
