I totally agree @steama either would look extremely beautiful - and very stealthy at night!

I have a blackwood stem from @Ed's TnT for a different vaporiser - it's exquisite and so smooth to the touch - I literally can't help stroking it ever time I use it! I'm already in awe of the craftsmanship and beauty of my Basic Vapman - I don't think I'd be able to put an Ebony or Blackwood Vapman down!! :D

@Seren Get me some dimensions or better yet someone send me a unit and I will give it a shot, surely I can do something with it. I know a guy has been wanting me to do something for it for a long time! Hell, I am up for a challenge any day!
@Ed's TnT magic flight box stem, if you make a custom stem for those..the vapman is a piece of cake...lots of folks use the magic flight box stem in their vapman. I am with @steama i would love a longer stem for my vapman.

Hahaha King of Scorch - I like that.

And yes. Thanks for keeping me straight. :)
Steama,

I did a bit of research on the alcohol vs acetone wood cleaning methods.

Turns out that alcohol will ruin any finish on any wood surface and there are many reports of people ruining tabletops and other furniture's finish.

Now... on un-finished wood, it will not harm wood at all and there are many recommendations to use alcohol to clean badly stained wooden flooring etc.

Reference:
http://marijuana.com/community/threads/soaking-a-wood-pipe-in-91-alcohol.224602/

So I tested on a coupke pieces of Un-finished balsa wood that I had laying around. I soaked one piece in acetone and one in alcohol and then set them to dry.

Aside from the acetone drying faster, I found no difference on the effect it had on the wood, which was none at all with either solvent. None of the pieces are stained or damaged in any way and none have any residual smell.

From now on, I will use Acetone instead of Alcohol because it dries faster, but I have the sneaky suspicion that acetone will potentially ruin the finish on any wood surface as well - I don't want to try that on any of the wife's furniture though.

I only own Basic/Pure Vapmans so I
Haven't had a problem with alcohol, but I'm curious:

Has anyone dipped their mouthpiece in acetone or alcohol?

Was it a Base Basic/Pure or Classic/Mica?

Did it do any harm?

I'm talking about the wooden middle part, not the plastic mouthpiece.

Peace. :peace:

However, upon further inspection, unlike watermarks which mainly damage just the surface finish of the furniture, rubbing alcohol will permeate into the wood and cause further damage. I don't believe acetone does this to the wood.

That's my understanding as well. If I was to hazard a guess I'd say it's that old 'oil and water' thing again. All alcohol has some water dissolved in it (for practical purposes), the grades we're using have quite a bit which gets carried along. One end of all alcohol molecules is 'water like' with the odd OH bit, this happens in the middle parts of some of the longer alcohol 'chains' but the 'water like' part sticks out none the less.. I suspect it's causing the grain to expand locally, but unlike 'wiskering' there's enough to cause grief?

Acetone, being more oil like, doesn't bring water to the party I think. Hard on you and your liver, but easy on the wood.

I don't think a quick ISO wipe on bare wood is a problem, but I'd avoid soaking or anything of that nature. And I'd stay away from finished wood surfaces.

As always, I think it's a good practice to pay heed to the maker's advice. A pint of Acetone should last you a very long time. It actually turns out to be very useful, as long as you give it due respect (and avoid vapors).

Works great!

Looks ugly though… :uhh:

My Lotus on the other hand looks brand new after more than a year. I decided to go with an Indica for the time instead of a Vapman and maybe when and if I eventually get one, with a little bit of extra care it wouldn't turn out like steama's, but i am surely a bit concerned with this pic…

Hey U,

I want to try this.

Can you post a pic of your screen both in the Bowl and by itself?

I was planning on ordering one from Vapman later on, but I was only thinking about oils and wax.

I hadn't thought about using it with her but after reading your post, it sounds like a great idea.

Thanks!

Sure ,sorry about the quality, end of the night rush job:)

Stainless screens if you have them, should work better, they don't flex as much as the brass type.

Also use a heavier gauge pipe screen which will allow better airflow through your herb.

you ll know..the heavier ones are a little harder to dome.

I try and keep the screen just of the bottom of the crucible but nothing really is set in stone.

just play.

:)

OK, I agree that Acetone is the better choice for soaking and cleaning your Vapman. I would still use caution on any finished surface when using both Acetone and Alcohol though.

OF's remarks on water content make sense. The 70% and 90% on the alcohol means alcohol to water content (90% alcohol to 10% water, so water could stay in the wood and cause some grief.

Now, that's a pretty beat up - I mean, we'll used Vapman, Steama!

Mine has been heavily used for at least a year now and still looks almost new. I've combusted a few times which left a few black dots in the Bowl.

This pic is a bit blurry, but you can see its still in great shape. I really like the charred Basic/Pure version because I feel I can clean it better than a Mica. I can sand the inside wood around the Bowl every few months.

9teely.jpg

Also, I always wipe the bowl with some tissue and wipe it with Alcohol every now and then - you can also use Acetone ;)

I also sand the metal filter with 1000 grit wet sand paper and it ends up like new. I can't get the stains out any other way.

I can post more and better pics tonight.

I'd love to see more bowl pics.

Peace.

Why the concern...to me it looks like it has been used heavily and got some residue from his meds. A good cleaning and i get it will be good as new.

I'm not sure I can recommend that. For sure it's not "like new", it used to be Gold plated. Not very much of course, and very thin and soft but it was the reason the original finish doesn't tarnish. Once you polish the Gold away, you're condemned to continuously polishing the Copper Oxide off (or living with it). Like a new penny, it's sure to go darker (only faster).

Your call, of course, but I think folks should consider that thin Gold coat before they take abrasives to it.

And for sure folks should be very careful of the crimps on the 3 tubes.

I think you mis-understood me.

I didn't sand the Golden bowl at all.

I sanded the metal filter at the base of the mouthpiece and the inside of the wooden ring around the gold bowl.

In the future, I may sand the inside of the Bowl if it gets too cruddy. But it still looks good enough.

I asked René/The Vapman and he said his bowl has a layer of carbon that he leaves in place and it works fine. He said you could scrape it off and that loosing the gold plating doesn't affect anything at all.

This is what makes me think I'll sand it a bit in the future when it gets ugly. For aesthetics, not for functionality.

Screw acetone or iso for cleaning your pan. Make it easy on youself and use a non-polar solvent such as naptha to clean your aperati with. I awoke to the stench of a pipe being boiled in water (hot polar solution) that my house-ape son and his idiot friends were trying to clean. Polar solvents such as alcohol (iso, ethyl, etc.) are only slighty better at cleaning than water.

Well the craziest thing happened to me today. I received a small box totally unexpected and Inside was two Vapman basic's. It looks like they accidentally sent my same order twice but only billed me once. When I called the poor customer service girl sounded a little surprised and embarrassed.

^ nice pic!

which vape do u like better? vapman or lotus?
no comparison of the 2 in my opinion...they have their on niche...i have a lotus and as @steama said to me a long time ago before i got mine...i can milk the lotus....that is probably the biggest difference in the two...if you are a cloud chaser go for the lotus you milk that thang like no other, if you are into a ritualistic type of vape that gets you very medicated on small amounts then you cannot go wrong with the vapman. I like them both, i have them both. They both have different purposes. The lotus comes out when i have people over cause it is crowd friendly...the vapman is just me on the back deck watching and listening to the sounds of nature. Hope that helps.

That comparison is really helpful to me.

I had a hard time choosing between the Lotus and the Vapman.

I went with the Vapman and never looked back, but this tells me that the Vapman is the better choice for me.

I always thought that the ritual of the Vapman is better for me than the Lotus, but to be fair, I haven't tried the Lotus yet.

Well...all i can say is this...when my vapman came, the lotus went on the shelf...i bring it out when i have friends over. The vapman is what i call a personal vape...i do not share it much.
